Everything went as well as it could have

I've been ordering my firewood from Bob and Eager Beaver since 2009. Best price on kiln dried wood out there and will deliver in 1/3 cord amounts. I received my most recent order on 10/16/2013 for 2/3 of a cord and the price was the same as last year. Every time I call or email Bob, he responds quickly and delivers when promised. If the weather impacts his delivery schedule, Bob will coordinate a new delivery time with ample notice. Great price, great customer service and great job as usual.

This is a wonderful service. They came, moved a little existing wood, swept the area out, and neatly stacked the new wood. The came when they said, were here for about 20 minutes. Absolutely turn key. Great fire burning wood.

Eager Beaver delivered to our home firewood. It is kiln dried and of high quality. Price was better than most other places. They stacked it very neatly where we asked them to put the wood and were courteous and punctual. We will definitely use them again.

Couldn't have been easier. Bob sad he'd be here at 3:00 and arrived at 2:57. He and his assistant worked quickly ad efficiently.

Not my usual supplier, but Bob had solid AL reviews so I thought I'd give him a try since I was running low on seasoned and kiln dried wood. Response to email inquiry was fast and delivery was made 2 days later at the time he said he would. Species of wood is fine and it's nice and clean. Lights up fairly easy. Nice and dry......on the outside. Low moisture content is critical for secondary combustion in a newer model stove and due to the interior moisture content being higher than the exposed face, it's near impossible to get the secondaries to kick off. Significantly lowers burn times because I have to keep the primary air open pretty high. Heat output is considerably lower as a result. I dislike giving a negative review, but kiln dried should leave no questions as to how it burns in a stove. Make no mistake, this stuff is far better than what 'seasoned' dealers are selling, but you can find better kiln dried in this area for comparable pricing.

I called Eager Beaver a few days before Christmas when I was running low on wood. They gave me a quote on the phone that included stacking the wood in my basement. We weren't able to be home for delivery and left the door unlocked. We came home to a beautifully stacked pile of wood. It burns great! We couldn't be happier with the product or service. Thank you!

I intended to write this review immediately after the delivery of the firewood since I was so pleased with the experience, but holidays (and life) interrupted even my best "intentions". But, since I rely heavily on Angie's List reviews, perhaps it's just as well that I waited so I can share the total of my experience with others. As I was bringing some logs in last night I couldn't help but notice that the 6' stack in the alcove outside my door was down to 3', more than I've ever used in a month's time with previously purchased seasoned firewood. Why? The kiln dried wood supplied by Bob is so far superior to any wood I've used in the past 23 years I've lived in my home that I find myself enjoying a beautiful and lasting fire in the fireplace nearly every night of the week! No sputtering, no smokey back-up, no opening windows on frigid nights to vent the smell and eye-watering smoke. Before ordering the kiln dried firewood from Eager Beaver I called a few Angie's List recommended companies closer to me in the Boston area. While they could guarantee quick delivery with no travel charges, their prices were too high for my wallet and one did not provide stacking at all. That's when I emailed Bob at Eager Beaver Firewood. He responded promptly to my email and I was both detailed and specific in terms of how and where (some in an alcove on my front porch, the rest in my basement). After a couple of back-and-forth emails he suggested we talk by phone, since I was unsure of the amount of wood to order and he wanted to give me the proper pricing for the wood, stacking and travel charges. We spoke within an hour of the email and Bob was extremely helpful in explaining the differences between the kiln dried he sells and the seasoned firewood I'd used in the past. Since I wanted to store some firewood in the basement I needed to buy a log holder. He suggested that the one I'd seen at Home Depot would not be sufficient to accommodate the remaining logs after the alcove was filled and educated me on the different sizes & types of firewood racks available with both practicality and budget in mind. Bob was so patient, pleasant and thorough when we spoke that I felt an immediate trust in dealing with him for my firewood purchase. I ended up ordering the kind of rack he suggested through Amazon at a good price and went with a 1/2 cord instead of 1/3 to help offset another travel charge this season. When narrowing down the delivery date, Bob suggested that he would "try" to get here on Friday, 12/14. He was "pretty sure" he could do it on that day. When I didn't hear back from him confirming the date and time I called the evening before to inquire about the status and left a message. He called first thing Friday morning to apologize for not calling me back, explaining that he'd made a big, same day delivery to a customer in New York and didn't arrive home until very late but was on target for delivery to me that morning. As it turned out, while I interpreted the delivery date as a "maybe", Bob had inked me in as a definite! He arrived when he said he would, stacked where I wanted it, and charged as agreed upon. As I was about to write the check he advised me that he had mis-calculated the time involved for stacking, thus under-charged me little just to let me know that the next delivery might cost me a few $ more. Since my husband & Bob worked together as a "two-man" team, I was taken a little by surprise but, nonetheless, insisted on paying what accurately reflected his time and efforts. He fought me tooth and nail, saying "No, no, no...Next time" but I won the "battle" and paid him the $20 more he earned for his time spent. I believe fair is fair and Bob is certainly fair with his customers. I would highly recommend Bob Mercer and Eager Beaver's kiln dried firewood to anyone within ear shot! Gotta go downstairs and start a fire now...

I got quotes from him and a couple people from Angies List. He gave me a really good price. The difference was his wood was kiln dried where they bake it. It was a much better quality product than I had gotten from the place the previous year. I think that even the quantity was more. It's hard to know if it's exactly the right amount or not, but when I stacked it in the thing that is suppose to hold that amount it was more. It was clean and I didn't have to worry about bugs. It was lighter to carry because most of the water was taken out of it when it was kiln dried.

Great service. Provided comprehensive explanation of the Kiln firewood process and how it differs from 'normal seasoned wood". Excellent wood - will order again.

I sent an email in late August to arrange for an October delivery. It seems early, but it allowed us to schedule our delivery at a time when it wasn't raining and also when we could reserve an on-street parking spot right outside our small yard for our Cambridge condo. Bob wrote back within a few hours and provided information about kiln-dried firewood, and an estimate for 1/2 cord, delivery and stacking. Since we ordered early I just asked him to let us know when another delivery was scheduled in our area. In the end, I'm not sure if there was another delivery in our area, but he delivered on the date we specified in mid-October, and arrived on time. The night before he was to deliver we realized our wood rack would only hold about 1/3 cord, so we emailed him about where to get some brackets and 2x4s. He informed us he would pick them up for us at the store, which he did, and only charged us for the cost. Here we are in mid-december. The logs are burning nicely. Also, a small detail I appreciate: They put the smaller kindling-type pieces in our 1/3 wood rack separate from the bigger logs. It is just a small but helpful arrangement to get our fires going. This is my first Angie's List review and I am glad to be writing it for a very positive experience.

This is some of the nicest firewood I have burned. The wood was very clean and uniform in size. They did a good job of stacking it and separated the smaller pieces into a cardboard box so I could use it as kindling. Bob was very responsive to e-mails and phone calls and very professional on the phone. My only issue is that it took over 3 weeks from the time I ordered until the time it was delivered. He ran into a number of problems that delayed the delivery on several different occasions. I would use Eager Beaver again in the future, I would just make sure I ordered it well in advance.

We needed a 1/2 cord of firewood to be delivered before the snow came. Checking Angie?s list I found Eager Beaver Firewood. Sending an e-mail requesting information, within minutes we received a response from Bob. He explained that we would be getting hard wood from NH and that it had to be kilned before it crossed state lines. The selling fact for us was that he not only delivered but for a minimum fee he would stack the wood. Being in our 70's that alone was a plus. Bob was on time with the delivery and he stacked the wood in record time, for us anyway. Suggesting that we put some wood in the enclosed back porch, this could not have been done with regular fire wood, being kiln we did not have to worry about insects in the wood. We received a free bundle of kindling wood and a fire starter product which was a prom for being Angies clients. That night my husband built a fire, we found that the kiln wood seem to produce a hotter fire. That may be our imagination but the living room did get warm, and the reason I say this is because our cat Tabitha came out of hiding and laid down in front of the fire to sleep. She was not a happy camper when it was time for the humans to go to bed, that meant that the fire was going out and the fireplace doors where to be closed.

Bob has great firewood, and at reasonable prices -- not to mention he's a nice guy. My only criticism was that it took a number of emails to coordinate the actual delivery, but the weather was partly to blame for that.

I sent an email through Angie's List requesting a quote for 1/2 cord of wood. The owner emailed me with a quote and we made arrangements to deliver it the next week. The day of the delivery, the owner called me in the morning to make sure we were still on and then called when he was about 10 minutes away. He got caught in a bit of traffic, but emailed me to let me know his revised arrival time. Once we met at the house, the owner and an employee delivered the wood, carried it through the house to the backyard and neatly stacked it. The total time required was about 30 minutes and the estimate was accurate. The wood is cut in reasonable size pieces, is kiln dried and burns clean. I will definitely use them again next year.

The product was good and the service was excellent. The owner was very responsive.
