Excessive humidity in a room often manifests through visible signs like condensation on windows or walls, a musty or damp odor lingering in the air, peeling wallpaper or paint, and the presence of mold or mildew. Experiencing discomfort due to a consistently clammy or sticky feeling can also indicate high humidity levels.

Although fiberglass dust is generally not considered toxic, inhaling excessive amounts of it can lead to health risks. It is important to note that, unlike asbestos, fiberglass is not associated with life-threatening illnesses.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay. 

While it isn’t as dangerous as black mold, pink mold in the shower or elsewhere still poses some health risks, particularly for people with compromised immune systems. Even if you’re in good health, pink mold could cause an infection if it gets into your eyes or penetrates your skin through an open wound.

Mold grows in areas with humidity levels above 60%, but ideal conditions for mold growth occur when humidity is between 70% and 90%, especially in poorly ventilated areas. To prevent mold growth, aim to maintain indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50% using dehumidifiers, proper ventilation, and temperature control. Regularly check your home's humidity with a hygrometer to help you monitor and avoid conditions conducive to mold.
