We are a family-owned and operated business, serving the New London, New Haven, Fairfield and Hartford Counties for 30 years. We have a broad experience in various fields such as hardwood floor installations, repairs, custom staining, sanding and refinishing. We are insured with workers compensation, and are licensed in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York. Our team has experience working with antique flooring, reclaimed wood, custom staining, chestnut and other uncommon woods. Our team understand that just like homes, no two floors are built identically. Our extensive experience in the industry allows us to focus on your individual needs in order to meet your expectations. We take in consideration the number of rooms, shapes of rooms, types of flooring used, and types of sub-flooring used to give you an honest and accurate estimate. The owner is on every job and employees are covered by workman's comp and we have liability insurance and an additional umbrella

"Mr. Robbins recently refinished our hardwood floors and windowsills, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. His attention to detail and craftsmanship are truly outstanding. He took the time to explain the process, addressed any concerns I had, and treated our home with the utmost respect. The floors now look absolutely stunning, with a rich finish that highlights the natural beauty of the wood. The windowsills are smooth, polished, and like new again. It’s clear he takes great pride in his work, and it shows in every detail. I highly recommend Mr. Robbins to anyone looking for quality refinishing services. His professionalism, expertise, and dedication to excellence are unmatched. Thank you for transforming our home!"

"He hired Tom Harrop to install kitchen cabinets and a heater under the kitchen sink, vinal flooring, plastering in a small area, add ceiling lighting and a shiplap ceiling. Once the work was done I asked Tom to do a walk through and he refused saying he stood behind his empoyees work. Here are the PROs and CONs. PROs: 1.) work was completed in a timely fashion 2) they did a beautiful job on the shiplap ceiling and lighting. CONs: 1) The brand new white cabinets had some nicks requiring paint touch up. 2) Terrible job on the floors! Uneven spots, lengths are uneven at the edges, gaps showing, no finish work. Terrible job!! 3) plastering looks like it wasn't even done! And there is some peeling of paint on the plaster job. Terrible job!!! 4) we were promised and paid for an under the kitchen sink heater which we never received. Called multiple times with no response. Lesson learned, will never use Tom Harrop again!!"

Flooring services FAQs

The cost of flooring installation is $3,000 for the average homeowner. This cost can range from $1,500 to $4,500, depending on the project size, flooring material, and any special features. For example, if stairs need new flooring, you can expect to pay about $11 to $160 per step. Additionally, hardwood flooring costs significantly more than linoleum, with hardwood ranging from $6 to $22 per square foot and linoleum costing $3 to $7 per square foot.

Believe it or not, adding new flooring—especially floors like hardwood, laminate, tile, or vinyl—can add significant value to your home. If you update your flooring close to when you sell your home, you can see up to a 70% ROI on your new floors. Adding new flooring to your home is one of the quickest ways to make the whole room look refreshed and new, which is a positive point for selling.

While you certainly can install new flooring yourself, it may not always be the best idea. Since the condition of the floors is a significant component of your property’s value, it’s important that your project looks professionally done. If not, you run the risk of needing to have them replaced again before selling your home. If you’re looking to save money on the cost of floor installation, consider removing the old flooring yourself to save on labor costs.

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

It takes about one to three days for a two-person crew to lay 800 to 1,000 square feet of flooring daily. Remember that removal of existing flooring and additional prep work is considered during this time, and it’s likely that you won’t be able to pass through the room easily. In addition, you can expect lots of hammering and other noise from power tools during installation, so it’s best to plan accordingly.
