"I would highly recommend caution if you are thinking about hiring Drymaxx. We bought a new house and 4 nights later our basement flooded in a big storm. We were unable to find a local company as there was a huge number of people needing service. Drymaxx put together a team to come up from Ohio to Indiana and it seemed like such a blessing at the time. However, their work put us in a potentially terrible situation. Upon arrival the operations director put forth a plan to remove baseboards and drill holes in the drywall to ensure proper dry out. We had pulled up our carpet to collect the padding and Drymaxx did nothing to remediate it besides leaving it rolled up wet and putting a couple blowers on it. Unsurprisingly, it was still wet 4 days later and they told my wife to check with another company to see if it was salvageable. They also did not drill holes in the drywall per their plan. When my wife inquired about it specifically, they assured her it would dry out just fine. After they left my wife was able to find a local company with availability to come in a look at the carpet. They were shocked it was left like that and removed it as it was unsalvageable. They took moisture readings and found a 79% humidity reading in the main room and moisture in the drywall. They had to cut out at least a foot of drywall all around the basement. Once the drywall was off, my wife was able to see visibly wet framing in several areas. Upon contacting the operations director of Drymaxx and sending pictures, he simply expressed surprise the drywall was moist and offered no follow up whatsoever. Then we recieved a bill for $8000 with ridiculous pricing like $1000 for baseboard removal which was a one man job that might take 2-3 hrs at most. The company that cleaned up their mess did a similar amount of work and only charged $2000 for everything. Drymaxx wanted 4 times that even though they did a poor job that could have led to a serious mold problem. I contacted drymaxx several times to work out a solution but the most they would come down was to $5000. Still two and a half times what the other company charged to clean up terrible work. We are contesting the bill and would highly recommend not hiring drymaxx for your project."

"Greg the inspector came out, nice guy very knowledgeable, I spent 14800 in waterproofing and mold removal, new sump pump and a air purifier. Greg and I went over everything the crew was going to do. Well where the water issue I was most concerned about , they side step and only put the drain tile down the middle and not at both sides. Stay Dry ended up sending 1 person to put tile in on both sides and fixed that issue, now I am having water issue where I was not having issues before and come to find out where my water line comes in they just put gravel under and did not put the concrete back in that area. So now I have a new leak and I can't seem to get this company to come back out for a 3rd time to fix this issue. Also I have water coming up from the newly concrete floor, I was told that the concrete has to cure for awhile which I understand that, but I don't think it should be seeping up along the cracks where the new and old concrete meets. Waiting on this company to correct."

"He did a great job on replacing the walls, painting and installing the bathroom fan. Where I find fault is he also installed a brand new floor and the grout is chipping, cracking and coming up all over. We contacted him several times to get this repaired and he never came over to fix it. Now we can't afford to have the grout repaired and we are stuck with the floor like this."

Stay Dry Waterproofing, LLC specializes in Waterproofing Basements, foundation settlement repairs, and mold testing and removal. We use patented, safe and proven methods of repair.

"They are overpriced, did not take proper precautions to protect our carpet, promised us professional carpet cleaning, then sent out two of their guys with rags and a shop vac to “clean” the carpets. Then we were told it’s not policy to send out carpet cleaners, and that we’re on our own. We were promised 4 different things involving quality of the project, none were done. This place is a total scam, and has SERIOUS communication and misinformation issues internally. Would never use them again. All they did was open up walls, spray some stuff, made a mess, and left us to handle any problems stemming from their lack of attention to detail, and crappy policies."

Biohazard remediation services FAQs

There are several instances where household biohazard cleanup would be needed. All in all, anytime an event can potentially expose people to chemicals, pathogens, or viruses, a biohazard cleanup company must be called. These events can include:

  • Sewage backup

  • Unattended death or crime scene after death

  • Virus decontamination

  • Medical waste disposal

  • Animal waste disposal

  • Odor control

  • Hazardous chemical removal

The cost of biohazard cleanup averages between $3,000 and $5,000 for most homeowners. Some services, like sanitizing high-traffic areas or sanitizing surfaces from a virus, cost closer to $1,500. However, other circumstances, like the extensive cleanup after a major sewer backup, could cost as much as $25,000

While a biohazard cleanup sounds like a scary process, knowing what to expect can help ease your concerns and set you up for success. It’s good to note that more than one professional might be needed depending on your situation, but that will be determined during the assessment. What you can expect during a home biohazard cleanup is the following:

  • Assessment: The first step in this process is for a biohazard cleanup professional to assess the damage. They create a report that includes the biohazard safety level, the needed damage cleanup, and the time it should take to complete the project.

  • Setup: The cleanup professional prepares the site to prevent cross-contamination and reduce toxicity risk. This process can include tarping and creating decontamination zones.

  • Removal of surface contamination: Any contaminated materials are removed from the area, starting with large materials followed by small ones. The professional can assess any floor-related damage once everything is removed from the site.

  • Salvaging items: The biohazard cleanup professionals assess which items can be saved and which are contaminated beyond the point of saving. Those deemed unsafe will be disposed of immediately.

  • Waste disposal: The next step is carefully disposing of the hazardous waste. Your professional will place the contaminated items in specific containers to keep the contamination from spreading.

  • Disinfection: The house will be disinfected and odor-neutralized. Even more minor details, like light switches and bulbs, will be disinfected so that they do not recontaminate the area in the future.

  • Restoration: Once the decontamination is complete, the last step is to restore the home. This includes repairing the damage to flooring, walls, or even the home's foundation.

Most homeowner’s insurance policies can help cover the cost of biohazard cleanings for specific events. Biohazard events like unattended death, infectious disease, and medical emergency are generally covered, as are flooring and drywall repairs. It’s best to check with your insurance company to see what is specifically covered.

One of the best ways to prepare for a home biohazard cleanup is not to touch anything. Do not remove belongings, even if they are of value or importance, from the area as they are likely contaminated. It’s essential not to use any cleaning products of your own, as the cleaning company will be using chemicals that could interact with your products.

One thing you can do to prepare is take pictures of your space and belongings that need to be cleaned, especially if you plan on filing a claim with your insurance company. In addition, take time to make a list of items that are valuable, sentimental, or otherwise important. The cleanup company must evaluate these belongings to make sure they are safe.
