They were very professional. They are the people I would call and recommend them. Daniel was a real pro, is reliable and if he even thought he would be running late he would call.

If I do decide to have anything done, just out of talking to him, I would have the confidence in his ability.

I had 4 potential contractors come to the house to view the job and provide a quote. Daniels bid fell in the middle price wise but he seemed knowledgeable and cared about the his work. Daniel's crew was hired to perform three tasks, repair parts of the floor, repair a step, and refinish the floors. All of which came out beautifully. I am still in awe of how a once hideous step is now one of my favorite features of the house. The only negative I can point out is that his crew did leave a bit of a mess. A garbage bag was left on the front porch, masks were left hanging invarious parts of the house, and the bathroom that they were using was not left in the greatest condition. I am still trying to get whatever it is they left in the sink out. Overall we are thrilled with the job they did, and would recommend them or consider them for other work in the future.

The pros: We received 4 estimates from contractors in Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn. A lot of them wanted to charge us the "Manhattan" price, which is inflated about 30%. Shalom was not the lowest estimate, but they had great reviews on Yelp and Angie's List. And they were willing to do the job immediately and in as short a time as possible. Also, our entire apartment was filled with furniture and clothing so Daniel's guys would have to move things back and forth to access the Daniel arrived on time for the estimate, evaluated the apartment floors, and gave us an estimate the same day. His communication was excellent and responsive and he responded to texts almost always immediately. So we arranged for the work to start 4 days after the estimate, gave half of the payment up front as deposit, and work commenced. Daniel's workers carefully taped up everything before sanding. Sanding causes an insane amount of sawdust so I was amazed how little sawdust there was after the job was done. The job took 12 working days. The workers carefully moved all our furniture around and did an amazing job. We got the look we wanted exactly. None of our furniture was damaged and all our valuables were intact. For final payment, I met Dan and his family near his home; he is a great guy and has a wonderful family. I am happy to have had the pleasure of working with someone with such high standards and integrity and competence. I've worked with 5 contractors in the past year (general contractor, electrician, plumber, 2 x HVAC technicians) and he and my plumber are tied for the best. The cons: If I had to complain about anything, Dan's guys didn't fully protect the white baseboard and got some black stain on them. Most of the areas affected had been fixed with mineral spirits but in the bedroom, it wasn't fixed. If I had to nitpick, this would be the only issue I would have with their work. I'll get some white paint to paint over it. Also, during the estimate, Dan missed out on seeing a floor repair spot. He asked for an additional $500 above the estimate but was kind enough to eat the cost if I would be upset about it. Seeing as how his guys were doing such a great job, we met halfway and I paid him an extra $250. Overall: I'd give Shalom a 96 out of 100 for their timeliness, cleanliness, and responsiveness. Highly highly recommended.

It went amazingly well. After we went through a nightmare kitchen renovation (a simple on - replace cabinets, sink, dishwasher) that took longer to do than build the Empire State Building - I'm not kidding - I looked it up. And a window replacement that was an nightmare (part of the ceiling fell in when they removed one window and they took no responsibility and as a result that window was not installed correctly) I was not looking forward to yet another project. We wanted to get our oak floors refinished and have boards replaced in some damaged areas.I had five estimates. One never gave us a quote or called us back; another said they couldn't do it unless they ripped the whole floor and no one would replace the boards, another quoted us an incredible price (I could have used it a down payment for another home.) And on. Daniel came in and life was good. He was respectful, personable, knowledgeable. Also, his adorable little son came to help with the estimate. He gave us a very fair quote (about what I expected to pay), replaced the baseboard (we supplied and painted it), agreed to do the work in two parts so we didn't have to empty the whole apartment (shifted everything to the bedrooms then to the living room); knitted the replacement boards perfectly so I couldn't tell where the large damaged areas had been (and the wood took the stain evenly); work completed on schedule; answered phone calls; respectful of neighbors, elevators, and building halls; cleaned up after work. Daniel cared for us like we were family. We trusted him and became quite fond of him. I am planning to replace the floors in my new apartment, and am so happy I have a fantastic person to do the job. Not only do I recommend Shalom without reservation, but I am going to use them again.

When asked to provide an estimate, arrived on time and gave excellent advice regarding type of finish to use and color. Bid was competitive. They arrived on time on both scheduled days. Clean up was excellent and the brothers were courteous and professional. We're very happy with the work.

Very knowledgeable and professional refinishing of pine floors on a historic home. On time professional service for a fair price. They repaired damaged flooring (replaced some) and refinished the floor to a degree beyond what I expected. There cleanup went beyond other companies that I used prior on other homes. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future for other projects.

Great. Dan was great to work with. Very punctual and cleaned up nicely. We has some stains that came out once they sanded down the floors and they repaired with excellent quality. Would definitely use again.

It's been close to a week, and he never responded. If he didn't want the work, at least he could have answered one way or another. Very unprofessional.

He said he would provide estimate in 1 week. Never heard from him. Guess he wasn't interested in job. Very unprofessional. One thing I never do is chase an estimate. He wasted our time.

I CALLED SHALOM FLOORING FOR A ESTIMATE.DANIEL KOUBEL WAS A TRUE GENTLEMAN & PROFESSIONAL. HE SAID THAT THEY WOULD SCRIBE THE FLOORING AROUND MY IRREGULAR STONE FIREPLACE AND PUT A 2 IN ONE VAPOR BARRIOR TO RAISE THE FLOOR TO MEET THE LEVEL OF THE NEXT ROOM. SOME OF THE OTHER COMPANIES TRIED TO TALK ME INTO PUTTING A FRAME AROUNG THE FIREPLACE,NOT ONLY THAT, THIER ESTIMATES WHERE MUCH HIGHER. I COULD'NT BELIEVE WHAT A PERFECT JOB.THEY SCRIBBED THE FLOOR BEYOND MY EXPECTIONS. THE WHOLE JOB WAS A WORK OF ART I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO EVERYONE. THANK YOU SHALOM FLOORING

Shalom flooring was extremely responsive. The company fixed the mistakes of others. The staff, in particular Victor, were extremely respectful, serious, and competent. I felt that I could trust them with my valuables. The end result was spectacular because there is attention to details.

Daniel was responsive and made himself available at our convenience to take measurements, discuss options and provide a professional estimate. Although their price was slightly lower than their competitors, we went with Shalom Flooring for two key reasons apart from price: (1) Daniel was able to book the job within the time frame we required; and (2) from our initial meeting it was very clear that he knew his craft. Daniel's men arrived promptly on the day work was scheduled to commence. They helped to move the largest pieces of furniture out of the rooms being renovated at no additional cost. They completed the job ahead of schedule and did excellent work. The inside of our home looks brand new and we are thrilled with the result. I would highly recommend Shalom flooring.

Daniel was wonderful. He returned my phone call for my estimate right away. He and his men were professional and courteous. We got estimates from several other professionals and his price was just right. We also had a tight timeline and he did whatever was necessary to get it done. I would only use and recommend Daniel again. The floors came out exactly what we wanted!

The job was done beautifully - we love the floor and have absolutely no issues whatsoever. I wouldn't hesitate to use Shalom Flooring again and would recommend them to anyone thinking of using.

Daniel is the nicest person on earth. I have never met a person so nice. I live in NY and I was cynical as why he was so nice, but apparently there are many nice people on earth. Daniel's crew sand and stained the 2nd floor of my house. He stained a few spots and let me choose a color while giving me a few suggestions. No dust anywhere in my house when everything was finished. He did a few coats of poly and it took like 2 or 3 days of work. Mostly to let the stain dry out before putting a few coats. I live in an older house with bad floors but now they look brand new. Its crazy. My first floor i installed new bellawood at lumber liquidators but it does not look as nice as the 90 year old wood that Daniel's team fixed. No cracks, bumps, better coloration. It looked like brand new. I wish I had him do my first floor and save money and not buy new floors.

The 3 carpenters were very professional in all respects. They were on time, curious, neet, and experts at their craft.

I called for an estimate, left a detailed message with my phone number and waited a week. They never called back so I am writing to tell you this.

The owner was very professional and polite. I was extremely pleased with the service and how well the job was and how particular and precise they were. They really did an outstanding job. I own 23 rental properties in South Jersey and I have a home in New York, and I do a lot of construction work myself. Most people I've trouble with. I was so pleased to have someone that I didn’t have any trouble with. I was so happy with the service; it was really enjoyable. One worker's name was Victor. Victor started the work and he was going to pull him off to do a different job. But I requested that the same individuals that started it complete the job, and he honored that request. I was very pleased with that. When doing hardwood floors, sometimes with weather and humidity; I wouldn’t be so much concerned about finishing the job on time because there are variables there that are not under his control. We had a lot of rain and humidity, and I was putting oil-based polyurethane which takes longer to dry. So it didn’t get completed on time, but it wasn’t an issue. I would rather that it take a little more time for a job done right because sometimes things come up. I am going to use them in the future. He is also going to do my living and dining room area after I complete the renovation.
