MidAmerica Basement Systems is your premier locally owned and operated company that specializes in foundation repair, basement waterproofing, crawl space repair, concrete leveling, and radon mitigation.

"So disappointed with this company. I own a house for my daughter to live in while she is in college. The house is 5 hours from my residence. The house has been having water in the basement. I turned to Angi to get a reliable list of waterproofing companies. When MidAmerica Basement Systems called me to set up a time to give me a free quote, I was instructed I would need to be at the house. I let them know my situation of living 5 hours away and that my 21 year old daughter would be at the house and could FaceTime me during the appointment. This was not good enough as it is "company policy" to have the owner at the house. I spoke with the initial employee who wasn't willing or even tried to figure out a solution. Her solution was to send my call to the manager, who when answered acted like she had no idea why she was getting the call. I explained to her again that I lived 5 hours away and would not be able to be at the house, but we could use technology and I could FaceTime. This again was denied and a viable solution was not even talked about. Never did I feel they wanted my business or in any way were willing to work with me. I can't imagine I am the only one who does not live close and has had issues. It is 2021 and in the middle of a pandemic. Why FaceTime isn't an option is extremely frustrating and confusing. The customer service I received during this call by various levels of employees was also disheartening. I would never use them after this experience."

It's been 30 years since Rick and Anna Lee Woods founded Woods Basement Systems, and today the company is one of the largest foundation repair and waterproofing contractors in Missouri and Illinois, serving both residential and commercial clients. Working from a 16,000 square-foot office facility, a 30-acre property for our production teams, dozens of community and industry honors, and a growing team of dedicated professionals, Woods Basement Systems still maintains a focus on the most important aspect of our business...you. Having established a track record of quality customer service, Woods has received the Better Business Bureau's TORCH Award for Business Integrity four times. Woods also leads the industry in innovation and expertise, offering more than 24 uniquely patented products. No matter what your concern—for home or for business—Woods has the expertise to diagnose the problem and offer the best, most cost-effective solution.

"Do not use this company. First of all we had them look at our basement before we had it refinished to see if we needed a sump pump. They said that we wouldn't need one, so we refinished our basement. Then it flooded. So after we took up our less than 1 year old drywall and flooring, they came in and said "oh yeah, you need a sump pump." In June of 2024 they installed a sump pump. Then the basement flooded again, because the sump pump leaked. It took months, but finally they came back in November to "fix it". It still leaked. So they "fixed it in January of 2025" and guess what. It is still leaking. Every person that shows up is a different person and none of them have any clue what is going on. We get a different crew, different manager, different person to contact and none of them have any idea that this is the 3rd time they are fixing something. We have had our basement torn up for months now. It has been re done multiple times and each crew that redoes it has no idea what they are doing. I do not recommend this company at all. They have taken 10's of thousands of dollars from us, not to mention the 10's of thousands it will take to put the basement back together IF they ever get this fixed. At this point it would have been easier to clean up some water after a big rain every year than it would be to take care of what we have going on. Our basement is a mess, our house is a mess from jackhammering up our basement every 3 months, and we now have MORE water than when we started. And the best part is, no one has any idea how to fix it, and no one responds to us when we try to schedule anything. The customer service and lack of knowledge is absolutely astounding."

Radon detection and reduction services FAQs

You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.

Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.

If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.

Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.

In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
