"I purchased 14 windows from NEXT Door and Windows in October 2022, and they were installed on 6/30/23. Several problems make me want to never use this company again: 1. Two large windows (double hung) in my dining room were measured incorrectly (despite two separate measurements being performed), and these were not replaced on the original installation day. These needed to be re-ordered, and then a second installation date (9/2/23) was required 8 weeks later. 2. The bathroom window was supposed to be a new opaque window. The sales person mentioned that the new window would only allow a form to be seen, but that details would not be visible. However, after the bathroom window was installed, I noticed that details could be clearly seen from the outside. This window (now very transparent) makes the bathroom not usable unless I have the window covered completely. This was unacceptable for a new window that was supposed to provide privacy. The service team needed to return on 7/29/23 to perform work on this window to make it more opaque. 3. During the installation day, the installation team was asking me if I wanted the frames to be “picture frame” or if I wanted to keep the original style of the frame of the windows. In addition, the installation team wanted to know whether the outside color of the windows should be white or beige. This was concerning because I went over this in great detail with the sales team. This lack of communication worried me about the quality of the communication of NEXT’s teams. 4. Blinds were supposed to be re-installed after the windows were installed (according to my contract). However, there was a change in the dimensions of several windows: a picture window bookended by two double hung windows were changed to a picture window bookended by two casement windows. Since the dimensions of these windows have changed, I can no longer use the old blinds—I will need to order new blinds to fit these windows. This was not discussed during the sale of the windows. In addition, the old blinds were not installed. The sales manager mentioned that I was charged for this re-installation (since it was in my contract); however, no attempt was made to credit me after I brought this up several times. 5. On 7/1/23 the service manager came to inspect the problems with the windows, and he discovered that one double hung window that was installed was very difficult to open. This required a separate visit from the service team (7/29/23) to perform work on the window so that it could open smoothly. Despite these problems, it took multiple phone calls and sending pictures to the leadership of NEXT Door and Windows to convince them that there were problems. The transparent bathroom window concerns were initially dismissed since “everyone orders that window for the bathroom.” It took a photo before they agreed that there was a problem. Marvin windows are great; however, the hassle and frustrations of working with NEXT make me want to never use this company again. My window installation required 4 visits (6/30, 7/1, 7/29, and 9/2) to have windows installed that were working correctly. Despite this hassle, NEXT offered 2% discount on windows, and seemed to value their own profits over customer experience. I recommend going to [*** Link removed ***] and finding a local company with more skill in communication, installation, and professionalism. It would be worth this effort to avoid the hassle and frustration that come with an installation from NEXT."

"I'm a guy who does my research before making a decision on who to trust to do work for us. You're probably the same since you're reading this review. I can save you a lot of time by suggesting you go with Premier for your job. We had an insurance claim that was covering the replacement of our old aluminum siding. We were also in need of new windows. We decided we'd bite the bullet and have all the windows done, as well as the siding. This was going to be a big job and I wanted to find a single company who could do both of these projects in unison. After doing the research, on both products and companies I might want to do the install, we got a number of quotes. At the end of the day, Steve won us over. Premier had positive reviews, like everyone else we considered. However, at the end of the day, we really liked Steve's approach, knowledge, and customer service. In addition, he's one of the few companies who has an actual brick and mortar location where you can go in and look at products, and discuss your project. Steve took a lot of time with us and answered all the questions we had. He also made some suggestions that helped guide us in the decision making process of things like window type, exterior accessories, etc. Once we signed the contract, Steve gave us an estimated start time. He stayed in touch with us as products came in and also communicated progress of other jobs so we knew when to expect the official start date. His initial estimate was right on. Now, a company is only as good the crew who actually does the install. You can always be won over on the sales end, but it's the skill of the installers that really matter. Peter and Stanley were the gentlemen who Steve had work on our home and we had a very positive experience working with them. They worked with us to navigate some tricky workarounds with our large deck and screened in patio, along with other decisions that had to be made along the way. While they were proactive in asking how we wanted certain things to be done, they were also very patient and helpful when we had questions as the work progressed. Like any large scale project, there are going to be issues to work through. We had some rotten wood in places and also had a piece of Fypon accent that had a little damage when it arrived. I firmly believe that the sign of a great company is how they respond when something needs extra attention or when a customer has a concern. Steve went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied and found solutions for each issue we encountered along the way. Steve is a local small business owner who cares about his customers, is patient, and does great work at a fair price. The crew he assigned us, Peter and Stanley, were on time every day and did great work. What more could you ask for? We are so pleased and proud of our home after the work they did. In addition, we've had many compliments from neighbors, friends, and families. My wife and I, without hesitation, would recommend Steve for window, door, and/or siding project."

At Excel Windows, we take pride in the fact that we’ve supplied quality home improvement products with exceptional customer service throughout Chicago and the Chicagoland suburbs for the last 42 years. Offering the best in Chicago Replacement Windows, Doors, Siding, Acrylic & Cultured Stone Bath Remodel.

"I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone looking for windows. I had the most frustrating and lengthy experience. I had a salesman out for a quote in April 2022. I was told windows would be ready for installation in August. I also specifically inquired if my current blinds would fit over the new windows and was told yes. August came and went with no communication. On September 19th I emailed the office expressing concern my windows would not be done before winter and was told they'd be ready in October. I had to constantly call and email to get any sort of appointment on the books. On October 20th, the installers came. I was told it would be a one day job, done around 4:30/5:00pm. Around 3:00pm, one of the installers told me that they ran into 2 issues. 1 glass pane was cracked, so he taped it with duct tape, and 1 sash arrived with the wrong lock. Around 6:30pm, I had to leave and was told that they would have to come back that weekend to finish the rest of the windows. They had to come on the 22nd which was a day we were hosting a huge party and this was a huge hassle. After they finished, I was having issues with the windows latching. The office also said the 1 replacement sash was ready to be installed. On November 4th, they sent Santiago out to the house who, upon inspection, told me that 6 additional sashes had to be replaced. The windows in the kitchen and the bathroom were not locked properly when they were installed which caused them to be very difficult to open and close because they didn't settle properly. The office also had not communicated to him that he should be replacing anything that day. Keep in mind, Excel still had the audacity to send me an invoice during this and I told them I absolutely would not be paying one cent until the job was completed. On December 1st, I had still not heard anything about the 6 replacement sashes. I emailed Leo in the office and expressed my immense frustration that we were in the middle of winter and my windows were still not done. In addition, I had my handyman out to put the window treatments back up and he informed me that they are not able to be secured in the manner they are supposed to be due to the size of the windows. The brackets and screws do not fit. I was going on almost 6 weeks without blinds and now apparently need to find ones that fit these new windows. I also saw reviews online stating other people ran into the same issue where they were not told or told last minute they had to remove and replace the window treatments themselves. He was able to make some adjustments to put them back up, but again, that's more money out of my pocket. On December 7th, Santiago and Dave came out to the house to finally replace the 6 sashes but also discovered 3 of the screens already had holes and needed to be replaced. I found Dave to be condescending during the visit and I asked for a manager to call me. Julie was very kind and apologetic, and she did send me an Amazon gift card for the complications, but it did nothing to ease my frustration. I insisted on an inspection at completion because I did not have confidence in Excel at this point. You could see some sort of felt coming out of the top of one of the replacement windows and the lock mechanism did not align where it should. It would not lock, which I was uncomfortable with from a safety standpoint. I saw from reviews other people ran into this issue as well. My handyman, someone I have known for years and deeply trust, expressed concerns this evening about the quality of the work. The last week of January 2023, I received a call my screens were finally in and to call for an appointment. I called the main contact but did not hear back. The next day, I received a call from the office saying they were trying to schedule an appointment with me; I mentioned I had emailed Leo with no response and was told Leo no longer worked there. Ok, but how was I supposed to know that? Santiago came to install the new screens on January 24th and before he left, asked if I wanted to make final payment. I said that I wanted a final invoice from the office first. 2 hours later, I got a call from the office for final payment again. The next day, another call. I could not BELIEVE their nerve to be in such a rush to receive their final payment when I had to wait 9 months for this whole debacle to end. I am dismayed at how terribly this whole installation has been handled. Based on recent reviews, I see that other people are having the same issues I was including limited support from the office and zero communication unless I reached out first. Even though I have tried my hardest to confirm and follow up, I somehow still end up being told the wrong information. For the thousands and thousands of dollars I spent for such a huge home improvement project, I really wish I would have gone with another company. The only bright points were the complete professionalism and kindness from Santiago and Julie."

"I had a full house window replacement and sliding door replacement. They were very straight forward about the whole process. The cost was great and the installers were prompt and did awesome work. We had a few rotted pieces of wood on the house and they replaced that right away. Awesome work and company."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with United Window for the installation of new siding and windows on my home, and I couldn't be more impressed with the entire process. From start to finish, their professionalism was evident, and they truly went above and beyond my expectations. The owner himself came out on day one to provide an estimate, and it was clear from the outset that this company takes pride in their work. Not only did he offer a thorough and fair estimate, but he was also hands-on throughout the entire process, ensuring everything was done to the highest standard. The team was punctual every day, showing up on time and completing the project within the established timeframe. I was especially impressed with the efficiency of their work—there were no delays, and they worked diligently to get everything done without cutting corners. The quality of the siding and window installations is top-notch, and I can already tell the difference it’s made in both the appearance and energy efficiency of my home. I highly recommend United Window to anyone in need of siding and window services. Their combination of professionalism, quality, and efficiency is unmatched, and I’m so glad I chose them for this renovation."

Glazing services FAQs

The cost to repair a window is $400 on average, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,500, depending on the window size, the broken part, and the window type. Broken glass and window frames are typically the most expensive window repairs, while minor fixes like repairing the track, seal, and sash are more affordable. Other cost factors include:

  • Number of panes

  • Window material

  • Accessibility

  • Labor costs

  • Emergency window repair

If you have a problem with your window, such as broken glass, minor leaks, or a problem with your window being stuck, repairing the broken part might be a cheaper option than replacing the entire window. However, if you have a deteriorating window frame or major leaks, buying a new window will be the better long-term solution.

Window replacement costs between $180 and $410 per window, or an average of $280 per window. However, your specific replacement job could cost as little as $100 or as much as $750. Factors such as frame material, the number of windows you need, and the type of glass you order all impact the overall cost. For example, simple double-glazed windows will cost $3 to $6 per square foot, but the stronger tempered glass ranges from $12 to $14 per square foot.

The type of window repairs required significantly impacts the project cost. It’s always best to hire a local window repair company for this kind of work. The most common window parts that need repair include:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Replace window screen: $140–$480

Stained glass window repairs cost about $300 on average. Typical prices range from $65 to $800, depending on the size, location, repairs needed, and whether you need to fully or partially replace the window. Full stained glass window replacements can cost $700 to $5,000 per panel. The repair type also impacts repair costs:

  • Crack: $100–$300

  • Faded glass: $100–$300

  • Regrouting: $200–$500

  • Cement replacement: $200–$500

  • New window frame: $200–$500

  • Cleaning: $300–$600

  • Resoldering joints: $500–$1,500

  • Replacing reinforcing bars: $700–$3,000
