Diaz Group LLC is a unique grounds management organization, striving to provide our customers the best, easiest, and simplest solutions for their needs. Our residential services include premium landscape and hardscape design, construction, and enhancement. Additional services are available for retail, commercial, and industrial properties. Our goal is to build long-lasting relationships based on trust and integrity with our customers, our employees, and the communities we serve. An employee-oriented company, we empower our employees to provide consistent, exceptional service. We believe in developing our employees to their full potential by providing the systems, tools, and guidance they need in order to become effective and successful. We also give back to the community by providing career opportunities and laying the groundwork for future entrepreneurs and business leaders. Our Family Diaz Group was founded in November 2006 by Ruben Diaz Sr, Rafael Diaz, and Ruben Diaz Jr with one goal in mind: to provide professional and exceptional services to all of our customers in Chicago and beyond. From the beginning, we have focused on projects requiring complex logistical planning, permit retrieval and detailed execution. To this day we remain committed to completing every project as specified, on time, and within budget.

"Short story: Foreman accused me of lying about something they broke and this project is still unfinished nearly five weeks after work begun. The project involved leveling the patio, which had sunk, and reconstructing a retaining wall, which had also settled. In order to fix the patio, Diaz had to move our hot tub. First, the retaining wall was not done correctly—their rebuild was shorter in height than the wall on the other side of the patio stairs. After this was pointed out to the foreman, they sent a crew over a few days later to even out the retaining wall, which looks good now. However, they still have not returned (four weeks later) to clean up the mortar and other stuff which is splattered all over the patio bricks. The other issue was that they damaged our hot tub when they moved it. When they came out to repair it at first, the foreman accused me of lying about the hot tub being broken. I told him that I did not appreciate being accused of dishonesty. They attempted a repair, which failed. They told me they needed to order a part. That apparently took 3 weeks. The part was installed and the repair failed. We then had another wait while they figured out that they needed to hire a professional to do the work. After a few more days, the hot tub was repaired and now works correctly. However, their contractor left trash all over the place. We are still waiting for the crew to return to finish cleanup, over five weeks after the job was begun. The only good thing has been the communication—their representative has consistently been responsive and apologetic for the issues, but this doesn't change the fact that the workmanship has been poor and the job has taken far too long to finish."

Appliances questions, answered by experts

Electric fireplaces give off more heat than you might think. Because they don’t lose heat through a ventilation system, which is required for wood-burning and gas fireplaces, they’re able to disperse more heat into the room. However, many electric fireplaces are limited to a max of 5,000 or 5,200 BTU heat output, and you can get more from traditional fireplaces.

Considering ovens can last 15 years (and sometimes more), it is likely a better idea to repair a 10-year-old oven, assuming the repair won’t cost more than 50% of the oven’s value. So, for instance, if your oven is worth $1,200 and the repair is only $400, it’s a better option to complete the repair.

Inverter generators are designed to turn on the engine when your appliances demand more energy. This is in contrast to running at full capacity as soon as they’re turned on, like a standard portable generator does. So long as the wattage rating is high enough, an inverter can power a refrigerator just as well as a traditional generator.

Appliances in your home that need dedicated circuits include:

  • Refrigerators and chest freezers

  • Electric ranges, microwaves, and toaster ovens

  • Dishwashers and garbage disposals

  • Washers and dryers

  • Heating and air conditioning units

  • Hot tubs, saunas, and water pumps

  • Sump pumps

  • Central vacuums

You should check and calibrate your oven every year. Older ovens tend to be less accurate as they take on more wear and tear. If you need to recalibrate your oven more frequently, then it’s time to call a repair technician.
