I had an air conditioner not outputting air through the vents for which I found out on Friday around 2 pm and planned to have guests in at around 3-4 pm. I called two companies, the first could not come out that day. Dial one obliged and said they would come between 3 and 4. They indeed did come right after 3. I got a call from their tech after he looked very briefly at my furnace stating that my system was frozen and that no further analysis could be done. They wanted to turn off the AC and come back the next day for an analysis, which would require I take off work to meet them for that. It seemed that no real attempt at diagnosis was done due to the above forementioned ice. The technician started listing the costs to perform possible services that he thought may be required (after he was able to examine the next day) but overall it seemed he was recommending replacing my whole furnace system and all ducts at a cost of thousands. During this time my paid guests were fuming due to how hot the house was understandably. I called another AC person (licensed) that I found through the newspaper. He arrived within 10 minutes of the first technician leaving. By the time I got there 10 minutes later he had told me that the problem was due to being low on freon causing the freezing in the system and that this was a common problem. Take note nothing had changed in the intervening ten minutes. He also recommended a cleaning of my AC which he noted was optional. Since he was there I took him up on the offer and he performed all work within one hour. One hour later the air was cold as ever and my guests were very happy. He made a quick diagnosis, fixed the problem, and in doing so, got extra work in addition to the freon and thus made some extra money The next day I told Dial one that there was no need to send a technician as the AC was fixed the previous day by this other gentleman. I did not know what they would do with the "service call charge" since their technician did a cursory exam and fixed nothing and indeed I had to call another technician for satisfactory results. I told the person on the phone that I wanted to be fair and that if they felt they did their job, I would be willing to pay their service charge, since I was the one that called them out in the first place. After some deliberation, the person said he would charge me 69.99 instead of 89.99. Again, I don't think this is entirely unreasonable since someone did come out to my house hence the "service call". I found them to be punctual and friendly overall but I found the quality to be inferior to the other person I called and I honestly will not be calling Dial one again for my AC needs.

Our old system, also installed by this company, was beginning to draw too much current. Back when it was installed, we had talked about upgrading to a two zone system. Since then, we had added 1400 sq ft of inside space by opening into a spare room. Because I asked them to start in the middle of the week, the job lasted a day longer than in the proposal. When they finished, other than two new thermostats, new registers throughout the house and a new return grate in a ceiling, you'd never know they were here. When I asked for a bid, I was expecting to need two separate systems. Jon Marquez advised me not to go that route, but to install a split ductwork one AC/heater system... a 15k saving! The team came exactly when they said they would...well equipped and worked like demons. They had their own electrician to upgrade the panel as necessary. They worked cleanly and vanished at the end of the day leaving a few well covered holes here and there as signs they had come. Of course, while they were working, we had a record breaking heat spell. They rolled in two portable air conditioners... no extra charge... and handled the situation without missing a beat. As they wound down, their drywall repair team came in. They repaired not only the ceiling they opened, they repaired some cracks that had developed months before completely unrelated to the job... and left me the remaining custom matched paint they used. The system they installed is quiet and a dramatic improvement over what we had before. Although on paper, it's the same size as the one it replaced, we actually had to dial down the airflow to avoid that wind tunnel feeling! In other words, we have reserve capacity we didn't have before. It complies with all the fancy new environmental mandates. Jon left me a plan drawing for my records. He was obsessive about tweaking the system to our satisfaction. I have a hunch I could have gotten the job done cheaper. I know I couldn't get it done better!

Shawn the electrician was on time, assessed the placement of outside outlets carefully and professionally cut into the stucco to place recessed boxes. Did a professional job, no repairs of the stucco were needed.
Description of Work: Several outside electrical outlets with recess boxes with GFCI protected and bubble covers and inspected a switch.

This was not an easy job. Shawn found the easiest and best way to connect the water source that minimized cuts into my walls. They arrived on time, worked quickly and when he found a mere defect in the ice maker line, he offered to speak to the service man. he cleaned everything up at the end of the job and was very courteous and professional.

He measured my heater and showed me how it was going off and on. He said that there was a problem with the burners. I asked if we could just replace them. He said they are not sold any more. I said of course they are and offered to show him on the web where he could get them. He then said there were other problems with the heater and we really needed to replace it. He went on to say that I should really replace my AC as well since they were doing the heater. I said there was nothing wrong with my AC but that didn't deter him. He gave me a full quote of roughly 15K for everything. I explained that I didn't have that kind of money and they said they could finance. He explained it was a great investment. I told him I was going to move. He said that it would go into the value of the house and people would pay more of the house with the top of the line AC system. I said I didn't think they would pay that much more but anyway I didn't plan on selling I am going to rent it out. He said it was still a great investment because it would be easier to rent with a good heating/AC system. Whatever I threw at the guy the solution was to buy their top of the line system. I should really do something for the "safety of my family". He said this several times. I paid the $77 dollars for service. I am still not sure what he did and ask him to leave. I had a friend come over and check my system. He helped me replace the heater for well under $1k. If you do decide to use these people please get a second quote.
Description of Work: I called them out for heater service. Not that I though anything was wrong but just to be safe, I have an old heater. They have a nice truck and the gentleman seemed very professional but that is where the fun stops.

There are some definite opportunities for coaching based on what you are saying here. I feel that there must have been a communication problem here, as you are saying my technician said there were no more parts for you unit. It is possible you can buy old parts for your heater however my technician was trying to tell you that replacing parts on a furnace from 1976 is not the best option for you and he may not of communicated that well to you. Your furnace is out of warranty and there is no telling what other problems can come up from band-aiding it. As it has been proven many times that a furnace of that age is dangerous and also can be prone to breaking down more often costing you lots of money to repair something that really needs to be replaced. He also recommended that the air conditioner be replaced at the same time as having all new componets is the right thing to do when replacing. Most people don't replace the engine in there old car when it breaks down they usually purchase a new car. However we do understand that some people may not want a new furnace of system and financially it may be out of there budget so I think where we went wrong her is my technician made you feel uncomfortable about making a decision which is not what we promote here. In fact we have zero tolerance for that type of behavior, and I have gone as far as to have an inhouse training dedicated to communication and not trying to make customers feel uncomfortable. I hope that your problem is fixed and I am very sorry again for your displeasure with our company. .Never let them do your furnace estimate. This furnace did not need to be replaced.
Description of Work: I set up Dial One Sonshine to go out to my 91 yr old fathers mobile home because his heater wasn't working. The service man Dustin arrived on time and inspected my Dads furnace. He told my father he needed a complete new furnace and Dustin called me to explain the cost. His best bid was $5,500 for a furnace on a mobile home. He told my Dad it was rusted, was old and that it was dangerous. I asked if there was any better price because my dad is on social security and is a veteran with little money and he said no. My husband happens to work for clients who own mobile home parks so he called a couple park owners and they gave us the name of their furnace installer for refurbishing mobile homes that need new systems. I went out to my Dad's today and met with Ken. He said the bid was a total rip off and the furnace in whole should cost no more than $2,800. The clincher is that we only needed a new fan that costs $800. So please do not trust this company. Anyone who would do this to a 91 yr old veteran should be shut down. Shame on them.

I would first like to say that the initial call was made by Roger Meyer who we met with at the mobile home. He called stating that his furnace was on but not blowing hot air. Dustin the technician that came to the home has been working in the HVAC industry for over 7 years and has been professionally trained and certified to work on all makes and models to troubleshoot and diagnose heating and air conditioning systems. Upon his diagnosis he found some very hazardous items associated with the particular unit he was working on. The unit is an EVCON up flow gas furnace that was manufactured in 1992 based on the model and serial number, Dustin had documented everything from top to bottom while also taking many pictures of this unit. What we have found was that this unit is extremely dangerous to operate due to the condition it is in. Dustin explained this to the home owner and to his daughter over the phone that this unit is completely rusted out, dangerous, deteriorating and in his professional opinion needs to be replaced. Dustin also found the unit to be tripping off high limit & over firing which he by passed the high limit switch to find the furnace over heating blowing 230 degrees when the system is rated at a max of 180. I would like to first say this is an opportunity for us to coach our technicians because Dustin could have communicated to the customer that we could replace the fan however our company would not do such work based on the age, condition and safety of the home owner. Furthermore residential heaters are only built to last 15-20 years and in this case the customer’s furnace is 21 years old. The best and most safe option for this customer is to replace. Most heater's come with a 20 year warranty on a heat exchanger which if you don't know is the metal fire box inside the furnace that expands and contracts when heating, now over time because of the expanding and contracting it can create holes and leak carbon monoxide into your home. Many people every year die from this silent killer because of old gas appliances that are unsafe. My point being is that we could have replaced the fan for this unit and it would have worked however Dial One Sonshine takes safety very seriously and would never replace a part on a furnace in the condition that we found the customers furnace in. So to respond to the members comments "never let them do your furnace estimate this furnace did not need to be replaced" should know that Dial One Sonshine has been specializing in residential heating and air conditioning for 32 years and every one of our employees have extensive ongoing training to make sure we are doing the right thing for the customer in identifying what can be dangerous to a home owner that is not experienced in that field. Finally I do see how we made a couple mistakes here by not explaining to the customers daughter that changing the fan can be done however our company would not do it and second because the daughter is helping her father in this decision we should have met with her at the home as she did with the second company to really show and explain why we quoted to replace instead of repair. Dial One Sonshine is licensed, bonded and insured to ensure the home owner we are in good standing and doing the right thing. We are very sorry you were unhappy with the service that was provided to you and hopefully from our response it will help you understand the danger of your father’s furnace and you will possibly consider replacing it. Our heater wasn't working on Sunday after making a few calls I found the above co. They were able to fix the heater on a sunday and their price was very fair. We are glad they provide electrical and plumbing services as well because we know now who to call if there's a need for any of these issues. Thanks Angie's List for another great referral.

What a pleasure to have this company come out to the house for an air-conditioning problem. They came on time as promised, they performed the work efficiently and were courteous and extremely honest. After looking at the problem we were quoted a price and though it took a great deal longer than expected, he did not change the price on us. I would definitely call them again.

It went extremely well and I will definately use them in the future.
Description of Work: We are having construction done on the front deck of our house and the contractors workers hit the earthquake valve on our gas line and turned off all the gas to the house. In the morning the inside temperature in the house was in the 50's and the heater would not turn on. Thinking that the heater was not functioning we called out Dial One. They arrived told us what the problem was and didn't try and sell us a new heater. They inspected and turned on the gas on the valve and checked the furnaces and the water heater to make sure they all were functioning before they left. I asked them if they had an annual service contract to check all the Heaters and contracted with them for the next year.

I called this company based on good reviews on Angie's List, and certification by NATE and ACCA organizations. I wanted this certification to ensure the a/c was appropriately sized for our home, since we had a problem with this in the past. John McEwen came to our home and unfortunately made me more confused about a/c systems after his visit, and got me worried about things that turned out to be non-issues. He put down the work by the company that installed our heater. He said the air entry was in the wrong place, which would void our warranty ( I then confirmed with the manufacturer the work was done correctly). He made it seem complicated to add the circuit breaker in our electrical panel for the a/c, and described that it would be costly to install a high efficiency a/c system for us. His quote for a 15SEER system was over $12,000, which was twice as much as the other company we hired. The other company installed the a/c easily without any problems, and were straightforward to work with.

I received service the day after I called. They arrived at 2PM at the start of the three hour window set up for the service.
Description of Work: They replaced the old style circuit control board on central air heater that had stopped working. A new refro-fit board and wire harness were installed. No other problems were encountered. The house was up to temperature before five PM.

The freon was leaking and only lasted two weeks. He should have identified the problem while he was there. They were expensive and did not really fix the problem. We are now looking to replace our unit.

The person I spoke with was a service manager. He informed me that the service call charge would be $70. Reasonable. I asked how much the leak detection would be. He told me that he couldn't quote me that charge because he didn't know what it would involve. I said to give me a worse case scenario. He said that he still couldn't tell me. I said, "suppose it was a foundation leak. How much would it cost to find that kind of leak?" He said that the service guy would give me a quote once he was there. Sorry. Sonshine Plumbing fails on the simple test of giving me an idea of how much it costs. At least American Leak Detection told me that their price is $250 (after Angie's coupon). It might be high, but I want to know how much the cost is going in. I don't want to be blind-sided with a $400 "estimate" and have to pay $70 just to find out the guy is too high-priced.

However in our 32 years of business Dial One Sonshine does not quote pricing over the phone. We have found that phone quotes are rarely in the customers favor, as they do not accurately reflect what we may find when we diagnose a problem. The last thing we want to do is tell you a price (which we are unsure what it would be) only to find out it is going to be more money which would not look good or professional in our opinion. Much like a doctor our technicians are professionally trained and can diagnose any problem to give you a quote. As "simple" as that may seem we do not want to be the company that gives the wrong price over the phone then have to charge more money because we were wrong. They sent their top tech who checked our entire system. Although no leak was actually found, he identified a potential leak and a deteriorating but still operational system. He then sent another tech a few days later to perform a preventive modification at no cost.
Description of Work: These folks have been providing services to me for my home for more than ten years. We've found no reason to ever question their work or advice. On this occasion, we noted a potential leak in our HVAC system.

The lady that we spoke to said that they didn't clean ducts she said it was not good. She was very pleasant. You don't need it done and if you do it you might hurt something in the duct system. She told me how to do it myself. I was incredibly impressed. If we needed to have anything done we would call them again in the future.

They came to clean out my air ducts. I did notice at the time that the equipment they were using looked dirty and old, but didn't think anything of it. When they did the work, the dust was exhausted into my home (instead of out) and is on all of my belongings. Every time I dust, the dust returns within 30 minutes. There is dust buried into everything. It has caused me to become ill such as fungus in my throat and sores on skin and scalp. I have, and am still seeing several doctors for this condition. This entire experience has been unbelievably uncomfortable and irritating. I have been ill since this work was done. I had contacted the provider and explained the situation. Even though the gentleman who did the work were nice, they seemed not to care what I had to say on the phone. They told me they were not going to do anything about the issue and that I should have called sooner. The effect this has had on me does not happen immediately. There was no way of noticing this until some time after the work. After noticing that I was getting ill, I had seen several doctors who couldn't really diagnose the problem. It was then that I realized it was from all the dirt in my home. It took me some time to fully examine the problem and that was why I hadn't called them sooner.

To answer some items that you addressed I would like to say that the equipment we use is cleaned weekly by our shop staff. We use the top of line AirCare duct cleaning equipment that is approved by the national air duct cleaning association. Our process in cleaning will never exhaust any dust into your home what so ever. We hook our machine up to your coil and vacuum everything into a bag. After we are finished cleaning we sanitize your ducting system. When you called back we were very concerned about what was happening so we sent out our service manager to inspect the work we performed. Upon his investigation he could not find any thing wrong or out of the ordinary, he also removed your filter to check and see if there was any dirt or dust that you are taking about and it was 100% clean. Lastly since my company wants to help you we asked if you would like the phone number to an environmental company to perform an air quality test in your home and your response was no. I hope that your illness goes away and that you feel better thank you and take care.

The plumber from Dial One was very polite and professional. I appreciated the fact that the company is open for regular service on Sunday so I did not have to miss work. A minor leak was discovered under a bathroom sink, and I called for assistance around 2 PM on a Sunday afternoon. The operator told me they would call me back when they knew what time the plumber could be there, which they did. In the end, the plumber arrived at 6 PM, which I consider quite prompt considering the minor nature of the problem and the fact that it was a Sunday. The work was performed in a professional manner, and the leak is gone. The plumber also took some extra time to advise on a couple of slow drains. The entire service was performed for the flat diagnostic rate. An estimate was provided in the event that the problem reoccurred, which it hasn't. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Leak repair of angle stop under bathroom sink and advice on cleaning out slow drains.

Overall, everything turned out good. We decided not to go with any of their other services because of the cost.
Description of Work: They came with a camera to check out the lines from the house to the street. They figured that it was an issue with the city street trees and their roots.

They came out and did not clean my air ducts at all. I believe that their service was a complete hype. They gave me what I felt was a shotty reasoning for why they couldn't clean them. They wanted to re-do everything in my home. They were nice people but their objective was shameful.

They do a terrific job. They are prompt, clean and very thorough with what they do. They are expensive but you are paying for what you get, which is very good service.
