It was a pleasure to have Jeff work in our home. Very conscientious. I will definitely hire Spartan again.
Description of Work: Replaced all galvanized pipe in home. One competing bidder stated that some pipe could not be replaced without removing flooring in bathroom and extensive cutting into walls. Spartan replaced all pipe with minimal opening of walls.

Kandi, the cust svc rep, was very quick with phone & email replies, plus super informative. She arranged for the free onsite consult & the cost estimate PDF was emailed to me. Mark, the svc tech, was very punctual, courteous, efficient, & patient with questions. He provided excellent explanations, along with possible solutions & what they entailed. His work was completed in about 4 hours over 2 mornings: locating the outgoing pipe from the house, opening the hidden clean-out (which was a pain), jet clearing the pipe, & attempting to video inspect the pipe (which was too narrow in a place, so blocked the camera). His professional skill was able to get the sewer pipe open & running to the best of its condition/age. Original estimate was $1948 (w/tax), but the end cost was reduced since we did the digging work, the old, buried clean-out was found (so didn't need to install a new one), & the video inspection couldn't be completed due to narrowed pipe. It's such a relief to have all the plumbing normalized again. I would definitely recommend Spartan Services to family & friends!
Description of Work: Every single thing in my home involving drains to sewer (bathroom & kitchen sinks, shower/tub, toilets, washing machine) was having problems with being slow at best, & backing up at worst. Sometimes 2 things couldn't even be used in the same timeframe without a major bubbling or backup occurring. It got to be a nightmare, really quickly! I don't know anything about plumbing, & was full of anxiety in choosing a company to fix it. Spartan Services had terrific online reviews regarding staff, service, & pricing -- plus it's local to Tacoma -- so I called them.

Jeff was professional and friendly. They came out and quoted us and recommended a great concrete cutting company. They came out day after day with lots of advanced warning and text reminders. They worked around my crazy schedule and got the job done as fast as they possibly could. Jeff even picked up my shower that I had ordered from a local company at no cost. After about 2-3 weeks of random times of work they finished and I thought it would be much more than the quote of $1800 which I thought was already very fair...and to my surprise it came to $1750 after tax! Needless to say I will recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber for anything from small jobs to huge ones like ours!!

Fine. Spartan Services was not able to provide the particular water heater that I wanted. I purchased it separately. At my request, Spartan Services picked up the water heater and delivered it to my home. This saved me the hassle of finding a way to get the water heater to the house and saved on a potential delivery fee. Installation went smoothly. The plumber was professional and friendly.

Tony was the serviceman who came out to look at the problem. Our house is forty years old and the product used for the piping is out-of-date--not even used anymore. Tony was quick to analyze the problem and his expertise was obvious as he outlined our choices to us. We also greatly appreciated the fact that he did not try to sell us on the most expensive solution but outlined our options and left us to talk them over. He fixed the faucet in the kitchen sink and didn't even charge us. Not only will we use Spartan in the future for any plumbing problem we encounter or work we need done but we will specifically ask for Tony and recommend the company to others.

Excellent service, and Mark was top-notch. He used the camera to try to unclog the line, but there were too many roots. He took the time to explain all of my options, one of which would mean hiring a different contractor to lay a new line. I was impressed that he seemed to have my best interests in mind. I asked him to use the snake to unclog the line...it took a long time, but he didn't charge for after hours because he started the job during normal business hours. I am still considering whether to replace the line or jet the existing line to remove the roots. If I do opt to clear out the roots, I will definitely have Spartan do it. In fact, I'd really welcome having Mark come back...he's exceptionally personable, professional, and knowledgeable. Great job!

Todd came as scheduled to hook up our new kitchen faucet and sink drain. The sink was going to be tricky as it was now LOWER than before...and now lower than the actual drain. But having worked with Todd before, I was very comfortable with him and knew he had great expertise as a plumber (he did our house repipe last year.) As with anything in this house, there was an unexpected glitch: when Todd was prepping the new sink drain hookup, he found the wall piping to be badly corroded and soon to fail. We talked, he said he could fix it...and the house fought him all the way! Fortunately, Todd won and ultimately hooked everything up and we were good to go! IMPORTANT: Todd stayed late because of the unexpected rotten pipe. He was here until 7 pm...even after I said he could come back another day to finish...because that's the kind of guyTodd is: dedicated to his customer. I really felt bad that he stayed here so late, but we really appreciated it because if he hadn't, we would not have been able to use our new sink. GREAT JOB and many thanks!

Mark was again, our hero. Sewer backed up, sludge in basement. We asked for Mark by name after the first time - with our 20's home, sewer clogging was almost a yearly event. We're getting the sewer replaced this summer, because our sewer is a shared sewer and the neighbors and us can split part of the expense. But for an emergency sewage back up? Call Mark! I mean call Spartan, and then ask for Mark! For any plumbing needs, Spartan is a family owned business with long term employees, and communications are excellent. Highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Mark rescued us once again! Sewage was starting to back up into the basement, and our line was clogged - our ancient 20's era sewer clogged like clockwork every year - from roots and age. We'd call Spartan and ask for Mark. This time Mark gave us a discount for always asking for him, for multiple uses. It was only 250.00 this time!. *Normally, it's a 350.00 job, or 325.00 for Angie's members. Thanks, Mark!

Two weeks before the Thanksgiving holiday period our main water supply sprung a small but obvious leak under the slab of our family room (formerly the attached garage.) After verifying with TPU that it was on my end and after turning off the house shutoff, I knew that this was a repipe, not a repair. I obtained three bids on this job (a fourth was disqualified due to "cost/inflexibility".) I should also throw out that I am responsible for facilities maintenance for my company's location in Federal Way, so I have experience with how things should be done (no, not an expert, but familiar.) Jeff of Spartan Services came by for free, spent an hour with me, explained what he saw needed to be done, talked it over and listened to my questions. I came away feeling he had a complete understanding and would work with my work schedule, which was an issue. Even though Spartan was the highest quote received, I was left with a good feeling that this company would work with me and take the time to listen. All in all, it went well. Jeff and Todd came and worked three days cutting drywall, drilling holes, routing pex, and insulating. To minimize drywall cutting, we discussed routing some of the piping through the attic as well as under the house. While perhaps not a "standard job", Jeff and Todd listened to my concerns and provided alternatives that met the needs of me and my family. The house bibs (outside faucets) were more conveniently relocated and new "frost-proof" faucets installed. While the incoming supply was a challenge (it came up through the slab and into the family room, hidden by a trap door and directly adjacent to the garage building electrical power routing), Jeff creatively hooked up and installed the house shut-off valve in a way that I could have the handle exposed on the wall yet all else hidden. I was very pleased with this and it meant I wouldn't have to pull my sectional out to use the shutoff. The work in the attic went well also. I asked Jeff to install two cutoffs (hot/cold) in there (at my cost) so I could isolate one side of the house from another in case of a future replacement (like having a plumbing manifold.) He did so...looks good...and insulated it all. Now if something happens in the main bathroom or kitchen, I can still shut off water there but have the Mud Room toilet/sink/shower/laundry still available while work/remodeling is done in the kitchen. I also asked that the shower valve be replaced. My "guess" is it was at least a 1980s valve and wanted it upgraded so it would be trouble-free for the next 20 years. A Moen was installed by Todd and works very well...and is a lot nicer than the old one. The last day was certainly a long one for them. They had committed to finishing on the third day and stayed until 7 pm or so getting everything functional for us. Knowing how some things had changed unexpectedly through the job, I appreciated their extra efforts very much. I knew I'd made a good choice, regardless of cost. One aspect that was important to me was that they always took the time to answer my questions about pex, installation methods, reliability and ease of installation versus copper or PVC. I was especially intrigued by their specialized tools, perhaps pricey, but such that they made the job go much quicker. Always polite, they never spoke down to me and explained completely. I did prep the house before work started by laying down drop clothes and temporary adhesive-backed clear plastic carpet covering. This made things much easier for everyone to move around and to minimize clean-up and staining FOLLOW-UP: Just before Christmas as I was doing some personal work in the area of the bathroom shower faucet, I noted a "weep" from the cold side of the faucet. I called and Todd came out to evaluate and repair it. I knew it wasn't a cracked joint or I'd have a real mess on my hands (since it was always under pressure.). It was just a weep that I found when my hand brushed against the pipe. I did not consider it a workmanship issue and would never have been found normally...it was a drop about every 20 minutes. Todd decided to redo the connections in a manner that ensured freedom of movement due to pipe expansion. As we talked about it, he said he was surprised to see it and suspected that since it was cool in the house when they did the installation, that the joint coupling had not shrunk back to 100% of its normal size around the pex pipe. I asked if hitting it with a hair dryer might help and he agreed, but he also felt the best thing was to replace the coupling to be 100% certain of the fix. He quickly created a new connection and had me hooked up in an hour. Yes...all in all...Jeff and Todd did a great job and made it as enjoyable an experience as one could hope for.

The work was done to unclog the sewer line, and the results were successful however the location was city of Puyallup and unbeknownst to us as new homeowners and Spartan Svcs the Puyallup city code designates that sewer problems within 15 feet of the road (up to the cleanout) are the responsibility of the city and not the homeowner. As new homeowners we would have appreciated that upon arriving at the location the Spartan representative would have informed us that we could have the option of immediate service, or paying a trip charge and calling the city of Puyallup to resolve the problems. (It turns out the city has response time of less than 24 hours). During the permitting process to repair the formerly clogged and damaged pipe it was discovered that it was the city's problem to resolve any issues with the sewer line where the clog was. When we informed Spartan about the code and asked if they would be willing to provide a partial refund (even for just the scope video), they first said that we were wrong about the city code. After checking with the city and finding out the facts they refused to provide any refund because the work had been done; tough luck for the new uninformed homeowner who should know better. We believe that Spartan Services should know what the local codes are in their "service area" to avoid the possible risk of violating code and be willing to inform their Customers.
Description of Work: Snaked and video scoped sewer pipe to unclog backed up sewer line in the front yard. Made a recommendation that the clogged section of sewer line was damaged and should be replaced or the problem would occur again.

We can understand your frustration with this situation being new to the area. Unfortunately, the cities usually inform the contractors of their sewer line policies and in this case the City of Puyallup has policies that differ from the other municipalities and Spartan was not informed. We thank you for bringing this to the attention of all the parties involved.

Fantastic. Another service had sent a camera down the sewer line and told me that they had a high estimate of $8000 to dig up and replace the entire line. I had company coming and initially gave the go ahead to have the work done. I immediately began to have second thoughts and I checked for another provider online with Angie's List. Spartan came up, had good reviews, and was in my area. I gave them a call. Within a short time I was speaking with the Spartan tech who seemed knowledgeable about the sewer lines in my area and told me how he would first go about checking the pipes. Over the next few hours I did more research, consulted neighbors and friends, and spoke once more to the Spartan tech who was always pleasant, professional, and patient with me. Long story much shorter I cancelled the work from the first service and hired Spartan. Their tech was onsite in a couple of hours. He performed the work in 50 minutes, educated me more about the line and the work, and charged me less than a tenth of the first company's high estimate. I am an extremely satisfied customer and will not hesitate to recommend Spartan or use them again.

I had an issue with my sewer backing up into my basement toilet & shower. I'd had this issue a few years ago & Spartan Services saved the day with quick service - snaked my drain from the house clean out and recommended that I monitor ongoing drainage as roots were visualized in the drain line. Fast forward several years and this issue happens again - I call Spartan since I had such a great experience in the past. Initially I had thought this may have been due to sewer pump issues so I had that assessed prior to confirming with Spartan that I needed a technician. Due to the sewer pump assessment I had not been able to use any water in my home - no toilets, no washing all the towels I used to clean up the sewer overflow several days prior, no showers......And thankfully Mark from Spartan arrives this afternoon. Unfortunately I had a doctor's appointment and could not be here when Mark arrived, but I left my dad in charge fully apprised of the situation and the area where the main drain exits the house with the clean out completely accessible. Mark felt that the exterior clean out must be accessed before he could do any work on the drain lines and HE LEFT. Without even opening the drain line previously accessed by his own company to use a camera & assess the line and snake the pipe. I called him frustrated (remember no showers or toilets for going on 3 days) and he was incredibly rude. Called me and said rudely "how can I help you". When I expressed my frustration that I had been without water for nearly 3 days and he had not even attempted to assess the issue using the indoor clean out his colleagues had previously used he was angry. He told me he was "unwilling" (a direct quote) to assess my drain issues using the perfectly accessible indoor drain as previously used. He did not want to spill fouled water on my carpet and did not feel he could use the camera due to "poopy" water. Not sure who has a clean out on carpet - if he'd bothered to check the clean out he would have seen that it was in an area with concrete & I had already cleaned the soiled water out of the area including the bathroom. I had a neighbor help me access the indoor clean out (no poopy water - no water at all came out when the clean out opened), locate the exterior clean out (buried by a previous homeowner's landscaping but very easily accessible just below the surface of the grass using the city map of my sewer system I had on hand for Spartan) and assess very quickly that there was a blockage in the drain line exterior to the house. In the same area Spartan so helpfully located an issue in years past. We were able to rent a snake from Home Depot and flush my toilets AND I was able to take a shower. I'm so disappointed in Spartan. I had come to rely on them as my sole plumbing company and always felt they had excellent customer service. I will not be calling Spartan again.
