Buck's Stove Palace is small business that has operating in Portland since 1974. The founder and owner Buck has decades of experience in both new and antique stoves.

"It went smoothly. They always kept in touch with email's & phone calls. They called 1/2 hour before scheduled time to say they were on their way. The laid down mats to protect my floors. The cleaned out the insert and vacuumed all around so not to spill any debris into the room. They were worth every penny. They said the stove was about 600 lbs. They carefully explained about the EPA needed proof that the stove was removed & destroyed which I had no idea it was needed."

Cascadia Plumbing is a local family owned and operated business. Rick Tarsia has been in the plumbing industry since 1997. As an experienced licensed journeyman plumber, he started his own company in 2007. We cover all aspects of plumbing both commercial and residential. We focus on each project; paying attention to detail; asking responsible questions and being proactive in each phase. We communicate effectively with contractors, fellow tradespersons, homeowners, and plumbing fixture suppliers and have established strong relationships with local inspectors. Cascadia always delivers a high standard of workmanship. Cascadia will work with contractors and homeowners to complete their design; however, we are willing to offer alternative solutions when required. It is our intention to always create a professional and personal experience, where each customer is satisfied. We are only interested in creating long term relationships, in the hope that customers can call a plumbing company based on a good previous experience. We would like to note that we started this company at the beginning of a downturn in the economy which has impacted everyone in different ways. This has allowed us to work with people–understanding their needs and affording the opportunity to show them who we are. We offer high quality work, excellent communication and competitive pricing.

"Rick and Don were amazing. they responded to calls quickly and were able to come out relatively soon. I had an issue with the water heater a few days after install and rick answered the call and gave me great information moving forward to fix the issue. When installing a gas line Don knew my wife and I were fairly desperate for it to be installed and was unstoppable in his efforts to achieve that goal for us. I've used cascadia plumbing 3 times in total now and would call them first, recommend them to family and friends, and trust their judgment. Amazing caring and genuine people to work with."

System Pavers is the nation’s leading outdoor remodeling company, thanks to award-winning customer service and more than 30 years of experience behind every install. With every project backed by industry-leading warranties, over 90,000 homeowners have trusted System Pavers to create beautiful, easy-to-maintain outdoor spaces where family and friends can connect for generations. System Pavers’ visionary designers and expert installation teams specialize in hardscapes, patios, driveways, turf, outdoor kitchens, BBQ islands, water features, fire features, decking, and more.

"INITIAL CONTACT The company was quick to respond to our inquiry and set up time for a consultation. What we thought was a consult to receive a bid became a high pressure sales pitch. And our down payment to secure the quote for the job was actually a binding contract for the FULL scope of the project with significant penalties for cancelling (read the contract fine print!). A cancellation window of three days to release liability for the FULL AMOUNT OF THE PROJECT was a big surprise as we read through all the paperwork the days following. We have learned a hard lesson not to sign anything after 9pm, we were both so tired and hungry at that late hour we did not thoroughly read through all the paperwork. Our mistake. We obviously ended up moving forward with the project and got more comfortable after reading through reviews of the quality of the work and the experience customers had once they got past the “sales” call. Most were very positive. We also found that no other company offered the length of warranty that System Pavers does and with the large and challenging area, sloped terrain with drainage challenges and more than 5K sq ft, we felt comfortable that this was the right company to do the work. CONCEPTUAL DESIGN AND RENDERING Overall, the software was helpful in deciding the layout and the borders of the pavers. But we still had a hard time selecting the type of stone with the generic 3D rendering. We had to trust our instincts with the pictures in the catalogues provided to decide what to order. Once we decided on the Mega Lafite and Mega Arbel stones from Belgard, Jeff worked very hard with the vendor to get the color we wanted (as the Victorian shade had been discontinued) at the price we needed to fit our budget. We certainly appreciated this extra effort with the vendor. QUALITY OF WORK We read many reviews relative to the installation and quality of work. There was one team, led by Moises Ponce, that had received nothing but positive reviews. We were grateful that Jeff and the management team at System Pavers reworked the summer schedule so that Moises and his crew were able to take on our project. His team did outstanding work, they were always professional, and cleaned up after themselves. The installation of the pavers and the edging was seamless and the final product has more than met our expectations, it is really beautiful. We get many compliments on our new driveway and front yard and know that we enhanced the value of our home substantially. The team had to address some drainage challenges in front of our house and shop and the choice of permeable pavers so far seems to be functioning well through the first set of rainfall and falling leaves. The only challenges we had with the installation process involved two areas. The first had to do with communication between the Designer, the Project Manager and the Installation crew doing the work. There were times they were not on the same page and luckily one of us was home when most of the work was completed and could monitor the install. The second had to do with the landscaping/grass once the stones were completed. We had to move a portion of our in-ground sprinkler system prior to the new sod being installed. The day the ground was prepped for the sod, several of the sprinkler heads were completely buried and one was even on its side, covered with mulch. Had we not been on site and pointed this out, there could have been significant rework to correct after the sod had been installed. OVERALL We are very satisfied with the work and the end result. The cost for the work may be more than the value added to our home but there were other factors/benefits we considered in the choice of stone we selected and the overall design that increased the price beyond our original budget. It has transformed our front entrance and our front yard into our own private retreat and we no longer have to deal with the dust tracked into our home from our previous gravel driveway."

This business was started in 1993 By Danny D Reude. At that time Dan had been in the heating trade for over 10 years. Today 23 years later, we are still going strong thanks to our customers.

"I called Dan's Top Notch when my furnace, which is located in the attic, started leaking water through the ceiling. Kyle showed up and after he looked at the system told me he wasn't certain what the issue was. He called someone and sent pictures of our furnace then told me there was nothing he could do. The system wasn't installed properly and needed to be replaced then charged us $102 for that advice. When I asked how much it would cost to fix it he wasn't able to quote me a price but told me someone else would come out to give us a quote for a new system....By the way that's $102 for the advice. This was a service call and even if the system should be replaced either fix the system or tell me you'll have to come back to finish the job with additional parts. There was no other option because he told me he couldn't do anything else. We started talking about payment and it became pretty obvious that it was going nowhere fast and Kyle was nothing but the unqualified guy in the field and arguing with him was pointless. The funny thing is I had Dan's Top Notch out the preceding 3 years in a row to conduct annual maintenance/service and cleaning of the system which according to them includes checking that the system is running at peak efficiency. Nobody ever mentioned the system was installed improperly and nobody ever told us the system needed to be replaced even though they were looking at the furnace which was what ultimately failed. I will never use Dans again and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST ANYONE EVER USING THEM!!! TERRIBLE SERVICE AND THEY HAVE ZERO INTEREST IN DOING RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS!!! BUYER BEWARE"

Fireplace services FAQs

The cost to convert a fireplace to gas is $3,000 on average. The typical cost range is $500 to $5,500, with cost factors like whether you need to install natural gas lines and the type of gas fireplace.

If you need to install a natural gas line, you’ll pay $200 to $1,000 on top of additional labor and material costs. Vented gas fireplaces are the most expensive type to install, averaging around $5,000. A more cost-effective option is a ventless gas fireplace, costing around $1,500 since they don’t vent to your home’s exterior.

The average cost to repair a fireplace is $575. You might pay anywhere from $95 to $2,500, depending on the severity of repairs and the type of fireplace. A typical repair of an igniter can range from $100 to $150. However, if you need to repair your mantel, expect the bill to be anywhere from $500 to $1,200. Wood fireplaces tend to cost more to repair due to specialized labor costs. Electric fireplaces tend to be the most cost-effective to repair, along with gas.

The cost to install a fireplace is $2,440 on average. This cost can range from $150 to $8,000 or more, depending on the type of fireplace, the materials used, and the size.

Electric fireplaces cost around $1,000 to install, and mostly only require wiring installation. Installing a wood fireplace from scratch could cost upwards of $10,000, depending on the foundation needed to support the weight of the fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces can cost between $2,500 and $10,000.

The cost to remodel your fireplace is $1,200 on average. This cost can range from $400 to $2,000, depending on the extent of work needed.

If you add a hearth to your fireplace, you can expect to pay between $3 and $200 per square foot. However, if you're refacing your fireplace, the price tag will depend on your chosen materials. If choosing tile, you can pay between $1 and $50 per square foot, depending on the design. Stone is a more expensive material, averaging between $60 and $70 per square foot.

The average cost to remove a fireplace is $7,000 but can range from $4,000 to $10,000. Labor costs account for the majority of this price, which can range between $500 and $2,000. In addition, permits to remove a fireplace are typically needed, and these can cost anywhere from $100 to $1,000, depending on your location and city requirements. If you’re removing your fireplace due to issues like asbestos or damage, you will likely need to pay to rectify these problems along with the fireplace removal cost.
