"They showed up on time, checked out my new sink, faucet set and drain for completeness and compatibility, then went to work removing the old hardware. The sink would not come loose from the countertop, because the installer used construction adhesive instead of caulking, but they guys figured out a way to make it happen without damaging my countertop. Neal noticed the lever control on my new faucet was installed backwards from the factory, and carefully disassembled it and made it right without leaving a single scratch or mark on my new faucet. After everything was installed, they went over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb to be sure everything worked as it should with no leaks, including letting the faucet heat up with hot water and chill down with cold water. They left my kitchen immaculately clean around the work area and carried away all the old parts. Those three guys worked 7.5 hours, not letting a couple of setbacks deter them, finding a way forward, and left me a very happy customer. They were punctual, cordial, polite, knowledgeable and professional. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat."

"I found lots of good reviews on this company and Ben Michaels answered when I called. I spoke with him on a Thursday afternoon and he said he could fit me in and come diagnose the issue on either Friday or Monday. I agreed and texted him my info. I also gave him the flexibility to come at whatever time was convenient for him. I'm usually around since I work from the house. Anyway, Monday came and went... I texted him on Tuesday and got no response. At this point I had pretty much given up, but decided to try calling one last time (on Wednesday afternoon) and got no answer (big surprise). It's now been over a week since I first spoke with him, and have received no communication whatsoever. I've scheduled another contractor to come out. I totally understand that contractors get tied up, schedules change, etc... These are normal things that happen in EVERY industry. Most people will understand if you have to cancel or reschedule. What I CAN'T understand is the chronic unresponsiveness among home improvement contractors, and their willingness to just leave people hanging indefinitely. The professional thing to do is respond with SOMETHING... Pretty much ANY polite response would be better than leaving prospective customers waiting (i.e. - in 100 degree heat without A/C). To any contractors who might be reading this. Seriously... Next time just copy and paste this reply: "Hi. Sorry, I overestimated when I'd be able to get there. Unfortunately some things changed and I'm now too busy to come this week. Wanted to let you know so you can make other arrangements if necessary. Apologies for the inconvenience." Sure, people will still be frustrated with this kind of response, but 99% of them are going to give you the benefit of the doubt — and they're probably not gonna go online and leave negative reviews like this one. The thing is, Michaels HVAC might do really great work — but there obviously isn't enough incentive in the marketplace to get them to be considerate to their customers. So, in my opinion, they don't deserve an "A" rating on Angie's List or any other website. The impact of online reviews might be minimal, but I feel like the only recourse I have in situations like this is to make sure the contractor's reputation takes a hit in some way."

Founded in 1969 by Dick & Nancy Krider, Howell’s Heating & Air's mission has always been simple– hire good people and perform good work and the business will come. Over 40 years and a generation later, Howell’s remains true to this original philosophy and attributes its success and reputation to their great owners, for their hard work every single day. Howell’s requires all technicians to be NATE-certified. In order to become certified, technicians must pass a nationally recognized test to demonstrate their knowledge of today’s increasingly sophisticated heating and cooling systems. This certification benefits local homeowners by giving them an independent standard by which to select a knowledgeable technician to work on their home comfort system. Technicians who are NATE-certified know that NATE stands for excellence and quality service. Besides being highly qualified experts, our technicians will treat your home like it's their own. Floors and other surfaces will be protected and left clean and free of debris after the work is complete. Our Uncompromising Guidelines Maintained since 1969 Never consider a job well done, until both you and your customer are completely satisfied. Use only quality materials, tools and workmanship. Shortcuts lead to shortcomings and trouble for everyone. Think Safety—for the benefit of you and those around you. Be as courteous and neat as possible. Take pride in workmanship and treat every home and business with regard for cleanliness and safety. Always perform a complete clean up after each job, leaving the site as it was found.
"Disreputable and will not stand behind their products or services. They said I needed new line sets. Did a hideous line set install and wasted a bunch of my time trying to get it right. Customer service was atrocious. They are unwilling to work to resolve their mistakes and make things right. Never use this company. Needless to say, I still need to find a company to fix Howells non-working trash job. Trash, Howells, trash."

The average cost to repair a fireplace is $575. You might pay anywhere from $95 to $2,500, depending on the severity of repairs and the type of fireplace. A typical repair of an igniter can range from $100 to $150. However, if you need to repair your mantel, expect the bill to be anywhere from $500 to $1,200. Wood fireplaces tend to cost more to repair due to specialized labor costs. Electric fireplaces tend to be the most cost-effective to repair, along with gas.
The cost to install a fireplace is $2,440 on average. This cost can range from $150 to $8,000 or more, depending on the type of fireplace, the materials used, and the size.
Electric fireplaces cost around $1,000 to install, and mostly only require wiring installation. Installing a wood fireplace from scratch could cost upwards of $10,000, depending on the foundation needed to support the weight of the fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces can cost between $2,500 and $10,000.
The cost to remodel your fireplace is $1,200 on average. This cost can range from $400 to $2,000, depending on the extent of work needed.
If you add a hearth to your fireplace, you can expect to pay between $3 and $200 per square foot. However, if you're refacing your fireplace, the price tag will depend on your chosen materials. If choosing tile, you can pay between $1 and $50 per square foot, depending on the design. Stone is a more expensive material, averaging between $60 and $70 per square foot.
Yes, it can be worth installing a gas fireplace, depending on your home heating needs. The cost to install a gas fireplace can be much lower than the cost to install a comparable wood-burning fireplace. The convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch and turning it off just as quickly makes a gas fireplace a big time saver over starting and maintaining a wood-fueled fire. A gas fireplace also does not require ash cleanup or frequent chimney cleaning to remove creosote and other buildup that can lead to chimney fires. Gas fireplaces burn and heat much more cleanly than wood fireplaces.
A gas fireplace insert costs about $3,600 to install, on average. The cost to install a gas log insert ranges from about $700 to $6,500, depending on the size, type of insert, how it works, and heating needs. Gas fireplaces need electrical and gas lines installed properly, so hiring a pro is recommended rather than trying to DIY installation.
