Called in early AM we were told they may have someone between 2 and 4 PM. Got a call to confirm service around 10 AM and Tech. came in at about 10:30AM. Tech diagnosed the problem and completed the repair within 30 minutes. Tech was very cordial, professional and knowledgeable. Tech recommended adtl. services but there was no hard sales for unncessary items. I will definitely recommend them and will use them again from now on.

Their equipment, as well as their workers are clean and professional. They are very technically proficient and know what they are doing. They have stood by their warranties over the 8 years since I have had the system installed. Anytime I have had a problem they are Johnny on the spot getting out to check it out. If there is a part that is failing they stand behind you and go to the manufacturer to fight for you.
Description of Work: They installed a brand new heating and air system in my home. They replaced everything including the duct work. I also purchased the extra warranty package.

12/1/2007 - Our AC unit was dripping water and making an annoying noise. It was working properly, just the noise. Tiger Services came out and after performing $155 of repair work, said we needed a new A/C unit. We installed under their recommendation. The first night after spending over $4000 on a new unit, the water dripped as bad as before. We had them come out the next day and they drained the line (as they had said they had done before the recommendation for the new unit). No more water drip. We had the other unit that was under 4 years old replaced for no good reason. The salesman sold us 2 unit checkups and "threw in" a filter replacement that he said was normally $50 if we put up a sign in our yard for 3 weeks. I wanted to deface the sign, but left it in the yard the entire 3 weeks. They tried to charge me for the filter at the first check up until I dug up the paperwork showing the filter was supposed to be for no charge. We purchased the filter for the second check up for $22. EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER.

Our A/C stopped working last night. After an uncomfortable night s sleep I remembered seeing A/C ads in the August Angie's List news letter. I called the first company with an ad in the magazine 3 times, but they never called me back (ever). About 8:30am I called Tiger, Robert(?) was friendly, thorough, concerned and helpful. Tiger quickly responded. Juan, their service tech arrived on time and professionally analyzed the situation and promptly resolved our problem. I'm sitting here writing this report in the cool comfort of my home. We were so impressed with their service we decided to purchase a maintenance contract.

That said they wanted to charge me 1200$ total for the service. During the time he was looking for my motor I had called around to find a price for a blower motor for that unit. I found another company that was able to do it for 550$ total. So although they are nice and professional they are a bit expensive.
Description of Work: We recently had a blower motor burn out one evening leading to failure of my AC. I found Tiger on here and used them due to high marks for price. They came out promptly and worked very professionally. I appreciated all the work they did. The tech evaluated the issue and diagnosed it. He even found me a motor for 262$ that he was ready to put in.

Read about Tiger Services on Angie's List; contacted Dennis at Tiger Services on Tue AM, 24 Jun 08; he was able to send Craig over the next afternoon to assess our A/C situation (A/C compressor had gone out one week earlier w/temps in 100+ degree range); Craig showed up right on time, was very professional, inspected our entire cooling/heating system (both outside and in the attic), and made a recommendation for a replacement system (accept furnace which was less than a year old). We accepted and were fortunate to have the installation scheduled the following day. John and Juan showed up right on time at 8:30 am the next morning and began working first to remove the old coil in the attic and then the outside condenser unit. They were very professional, taking care not to damage our home nor make a mess. They put down drop cloths inside and thoroughly cleaned up everywhere they worked. They only took a short lunch break and completed the job as promised at approximately 5pm. The Tiger team was very efficient in removing the old equipment with one truck, and then having another truck show up shortly thereafter to deliver the new equipment for installation. First rate team in every respect...would definitely call on them again. Signed up for their annual scheduled maintenance program also. (Note: This evening (about 5 pm) I noticed some water dripping from the area of the overflow drain pipe at the roof; called Tiger and spoke to Dennis; he immediately sent Robert over to assess the situation; Robert quickly determined the problem (negative pressure in the A/C primary drain line in the attic) and fixed it at no cost.

Tiger Services was the fourth company that we contacted for quotes after we joined Angie's List. The salesman, Craig was on time, knowledgeable and polite. He explained what was needed, how much it would cost and when they could install the system. Once the workmen arrived they were neat, efficient and went out of the way to explain what they were doing and answer any and all questions. They finished early and within the estimate. They then went through the entire operation of both the heater, air conditioner and thermostat and again made sure all questions were answered. They left the area that they were working in spotless looking like no one had done any work there at all. It was all in all a great job and I would not hesitate to call them again.

Downstairs AC went out Thursday morning. A technician was out there by the afternoon. He explained why we would be better off replacing both the indoor and outdoor units to improve energy efficiency. Later that night, a sales agent came by to discuss financing and help us select an appropriate system. At 9:15 am the next morning, two technicians arrived to install the system. They put down drop cloths, and set up a fan, and worked until 5:30 p.m., with one short break for lunch. They explained all the work down, instructed me how to maintain the system, and thoroughly cleaned up their work areas.
Description of Work: Replaced our indoor heat pump and outdoor compressor. Build a new concrete slab for the outdoor compressor. Added insulation to the closet holding the heat pump, significantly lowering the noise level. Created a new duct inside the closet, to better seal it and improve the efficiency of the heat pump.

Technician arrived quickly and was courteous, told us we should call our warranty A/C people as the unit was just over a year old and would probably still be covered. We did but could not immediately talk to anyone as it was the weekend and we had to leave a message for him to call back. In the meantime since the Tiger technician had come we decided to let him top up the unit as it seemed like the best option given the lateness of the day. The unit took 5 lb (almost half its capacity). Tiger charged us $148 for the first lb of freon and $100 EACH for the next 4. Total bill with service call charge was $621. We thought it was a lot but were thankful for the speedy service and the A/C cooling on such a hot day (we had been working in the yard all day). Later that evening I did some research on the price as we recently had an issue with our condo in Houston and had called Weeks Co. from the Houston chapter list and they charged us $25 per lb. for R22. I went on line and found Grainger.com selling 50 lb. tanks of R22 for $7/lb. and R410a for $22/lb. Ok, so now we are unhappy; from $22/lb. to $100 and over???? I emailed Dennis Mollgaard the co. owner, and explained what happened and the research I had done based on previous experience in Houston. I had also combed the 63 reports on Tiger company but could find no specific details on $ for freon, though no coolant referenced job was more that $300. At work the next day I received a call from Dennis saying that he was calling 5 companies to find out what they were charging per lb. I decided while waiting for his answer to conduct my own survey calls, so I went back to Angie's List and called the next 5 companies on the list. One could not answer, one told me the average ticket cost for coolant was $120, another told me the max for topping off a unit regardless of the amount was $120, and the last two told me $35 and $38.50/lb. So I was expecting Dennis to come back with similar numbers. When he called back in the pm he told me his 5 reports ran from $120/lb. to $30/lb. so he took an average price and came up with $70/lb. He said he would wait for our check to clear and then refund us a difference of $180 or so. I accepted this as I did not know how else to get him to price it at $40 or less which I believed to be the fair price and I was a work and unable to devote too much time to the phone conversation. I told him I was still not happy and he justified the extra cost because of the high co standards. I did not think to say it at the time but the co standards should be reflected in the service call $ not the product cost. My husband also called Dennis but got nowhere in reducing the price.
Description of Work: A/C was frozen on a Saturday late pm, technician diagnosed a leak and told us we could add freon to bring the unit back to cooling. He could not tell us how much freon the unit would take. He added in a total 5 lb of R410A freon.

Response from Tiger Services Air Conditioning & Heating
Tiger Services arrived on time, on a weekend and with all the supplies needed to get the house cool and comfortable. By the time the technician had left the home, it was cooling enough for them to enjoy the weekend with their guests. The services call was run late on Saturday evening. Our technician strongly advised on not adding that large amount of refrigerant to the system. It was the new environmentally friendly refrigerant r-410a. They really needed the builder to address the leaking coil issue. We did not install their equipment. At Tiger Services we have a flat rate price book that includes everything - taxes, material and labor. That way - when we quote a repair, there are no surprise "add-ons" at the end. I believe the member is attempting to compare our "all-in-one" pricing to companies that charge for labor separately from material. Because of the great relationship that we have with many of Angie's List clients, we have already discounted our work 30%%. She is now requesting more. We stand behind our work and we will stand behind the already discounted price that has been offered to the member. We really enjoy working for the subscribers of Angie's List. If anyone has a question about pricing, we work late - just call us - we are there when you need us.

In addition to the service call fee, they wanted an additional $153 for a "leak check." They said this could take 15 minutes or it could take two hours. After 15 minutes, the technician told me he found a leak in the evaporator coil. I asked how he knew there was not another leak somewhere else in the system, and why he did not do a complete check if I was paying for it. He seemed unable to answer any of my questions, so he referred me to the owner. The owner stated that, if replacing the evaporator coil did not fix the problem, they would come back out and look for another leak. I expressed the opinion that this was ridiculous - if I am paying for a "leak check" then they should do the job right the first time. I did not have them replace the coil, but did have them recharge the unit. The technician had told me initially that it was about three pounds low, and he kept saying how expensive this particular coolant is. He charged me $100 a pound. I asked for the name of the coolant, and called Beyer Boys, who said their cost for this coolant is $56. After the technician left, the owner called and said the new evaporator coil would be $2600. Beyer Boys replaced it for $1300. In the end, the owner did not charge me for the service call (I had a coupon) or the leak check, but I paid twice what the coolant should have cost. When Beyer Boys came and replaced the coil, they told me the coolant was low, and it had been only two days. This is the worst company of any kind that I have ever had to deal with.
Description of Work: Performed a "leak check" and told me I needed a new evaporator coil. Then recharged the unit with 3.5 pounds of coolant. I did not have them replace the coil because their price was twice what Beyer Boys stated their charge would be.

Two AC units went out on a Friday at 4:30 P.M. Called Tiger Services and they redirected a service tech in the area to arrive before 5 P.M. The call center informed me that since the call came in before 5:00 p.m I would be able to use the Angie's List coupon for a free service call. The technician, Edgar Garcia, quickly identified a problem with the start up on one unit and recommended a hard start kit to assist this unit in reaching full function. The second unit was more problematic. Again, Mr. Garcia was able to locate the problem- a badly worn blower motor. He said Tiger Services would need to order either an OEM motor or if we were lucky they would have a general purpose motor in their service department. Either way he would have to return on Monday to complete the job. I suggest Tuesday as a better day. He called on Tuesday to confirm appointment and arrive early A.M. Edgar had contacted the manufacturer prior to his second visit to see which motor (the OEM or the general after market one) would be the better for this situation. He learned that the OEM motor was far superior in performance to the off-the-shelf motor. He spent a couple of hours removing the blower motor and cage. Turns out the cage had lost some of its vains which cause major damage to the motor and shaft. All would have to be replace. Mr. Garcia complete the job as described. Both units are now working normally and I have not only a cool house, but peace of mind.
Description of Work: Perform PM services on two AC units (cleaned condensers, cleared and disinfected drain lines, added Freon, checked amp draw, etc.) Installed starter kit one unit. Replaced blower motor and cage on larger unit.

Made an appointment and scheduled for the morning. Serviceman called 30 minutes in advance to advise that he was on his way. Showed up on time. Courteous and friendly. Determined that I needed a new thermostat. When initially investigating the problem, he came across a completely separate issue that showed that installation of vents was not done properly by builder - basically showed that air/heating was escaping and therefore I was losing a lot of air/heat. Suggested that I contact the builder and have them fix it. He mentioned the service plan but did not push it hard when he saw that I was not interested in such a plan. I appreciated that, since I don't like getting sold so hard on other products. I just want them to do the requested job and move on - which is what they did.
