Lonely Mountain Craftsmen, LLC (formerly Justis & Sons Construction) we are a second generation veteran owned and operated home improvement company specializing in finished carpentry for remodeling, repair, and new build. We have been proudly serving the folks of Northeast Tennessee for over twenty years, and our team of craftsmen have decades of experience in home improvement. If you are looking for top shelf quality work, at an affordable rate give us a call today (423-930-0548) and let us show you the craftsmen difference! .

"I hired them to build a custom swing for my daughter. This was the second time we had tried to get a swing built. The first person I hired did a horrible job (they were not related in anyway to Lonely Mountain Craftsmen). Dylan listened to what we were looking for and addressed concerns that came up with the other person. He was very thorough and built a swing that was up to standards needed for a public swing. He was very aware of what we had experienced before and did his best to alleviate our concerns. Our daughter loves her swing and we believe it will last a really long time. I would definitely recommend."

Since our owner, Randy Carroll, started Carroll Development, LLC, in 2006 we have been focused on taking care of our customers with whatever they need. We approach every project as if we were working on our own home, office, or facility. Call us today to see how we can help your house become your home.

"Randy Carroll and his great team remodeled two bathrooms, installed a new laundry room floor, tore down my existing screened-in porch, rebuilt an enlarged screened-in porch and added a deck. The jobs were completed in early May and I still walk into my bathrooms and onto my porch and smile!! They did an amazing job, listened to my many "wants", provided me with options to save money and always consulted/advised us on what was being done. Randy took the time on several occasions during the renovations to make sure we were happy with the progression and the work. I could not have been happier with Randy and his entire team. I felt like I was losing family members when the projects were done!! Would not hesitate to hire them for additional work. Already have some projects in mind."

Call for an appointment today, you'll be happy you found us.

"I would give a zero if possible. By using a funds collecting company [Buildertrend] much like a construction-oriented PayPal, Tricities Remodeling Co overcharged me for a service that they didn't even perform. A structural engineering company that did an inspection for us, charged $385 for their fee. However, Tricities Remodeling Co [located in Gray, Tn] chose to separately invoice, charge and collect $700, without my knowledge of the actual charge from the service provider. I only discovered the overcharge while trying to get Tricities Remodeling company to provide me with a statement of the findings [they still haven't] for any future references involving ins., etc. When I brought this to their attention, they ignored me Also, approximate times of completion were GROSSLY over estimated and their project proposal didn't include major items such as flooring, ceiling improvements, etc., & several other items discussed & wanting 5,000 for a free-standing coffee bar cabinet! BE WARNED"

Carpentry services FAQs

The average cost to hire a woodworker for a project in your home is around $65 per hour, but hourly rates can range from $35 to $250 or more, depending on the experience and skill of the woodworker. Your total woodworking project cost will depend on the complexity of the work, the type of wood, the number of projects, and any other materials your project requires. You could hire a professional woodworker to create everything from a custom cabinet to ornate, unique staircases.

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.

While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Every woodworker has different skills and experience, so we recommend asking the following questions when hiring a woodworker for your project:

  • How long have you been in the woodworking industry?

  • What experience do you have with my type of project?

  • Do you have customer references I can speak with?

  • How long do you expect my project to take?

  • What is my recourse if I have an issue with your work?

  • Do you charge hourly or per project?

  • Will you work on-site or in your own workshop?

  • Does your fee include the necessary post-job clean-up?

While they perform similar tasks, a carpenter is responsible for the woodworking that goes into construction—like framing, installing sheathing, and hanging kitchen cabinets—while a woodworker tackles more intricate and custom projects—like building custom furniture and installing wainscoting. Based on these definitions, most woodworkers can tackle the jobs of a carpenter, but you should always ask about your specific project when choosing a woodworker to ensure they have the necessary skills to tackle the job.
