O'Neill Masonry & Keystone Chimney Restoration

Jim was very responsive and completed the job on time and at a very reasonable price

We hired Jim O'Neill and his team to repair some work previously and poorly executed by a contractor. Jim went on-site, assessed the situation, provided a quote, and performed the work soon after. It was clear that Jim and his team are professionals - the finished product was clean and well done, and obvious that time and care was taken to perform the work. The work involved removing unusable stone, replacing the lintel above a basement window, replacing and matching the stone with the wall, removing existing mortar, and re-pointing the entire wall. I'm absolutely 100% happy with the finished product. As for Jim, he was always responsive and available for any questions, sent photos as progress was made throughout the project (I'm remote), and was always a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended and I look forward to doing business with his company in the future.

I highly recommend Jimmy and his crew! They had the tough job of matching the new brick and mortar to the brick and mortar that was at the bottom half of the fireplace. To my pleasant surprise, they were able to match it perfectly! It looks exactly like we wanted it to look and we couldn't be happier. In addition, Jimmy and his guys were such a pleasure to work with! They were prompt, responsive, respectful of our space, and made sure to cover everything and keep it as clean as possible. Their price was also competitive with the other 4 bids I received. If you need masonry work, give them a call!!!

Overall, great. Jim is very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He came out soon after I called him for an estimate, and the work was completed in a very timely manner. The chimney was looking bad, but luckily did not need a complete tear-down/restoration. His crew did a fantastic job on the chimney. The front of the house did not clean up as much as I wanted, but there are some stains that have built up over 70 years. This is the only reason I gave a "B" for price - I had higher expectations for what the cleaning would do. However, from the start, Jim was very honest about the fact that it might not all clean up. Despite this, I was recently complimented on the brick work of my house, so it must look nice. I'm very pleased with the chimney work and would certainly hire them again.

Jim O'Neill came to our home on 9/6 assessed the damage and was supposed to email an estimate later that day. As of 9/11 we have not received the estimate and never heard from Jim again. Very poor treatment.

Amazing. We never expected the new patio to look even close to integrated with the old patio but the O'Neill team spent the time and put the attention to detail in to completely exceed our expectations. Aside from a flawless finished product, Jimmy and his team were beyond professional and courteous. Not a single piece of trash was ever seen in the yard and tools were cleaned up and organized every single day. They were friendly, personable, and clearly experts at what they do.

They did great in all areas. The front porch required much more work and was actually a safety hazard due to crumbling bricks. Jimmy O'Neal had the best ideas of the contractors we contacted about how to rebuild it. He uses all his own workers; they were punctual and did a beautiful job. There is an artistry to fine masonry work and they demonstrated it with rebuilding using brick to match our house and colored flag and Pennsylvania blue stone on the enlarged front porch landing. The back porch also looks lovely. We have contacted him again to do more work for us.

We contacted several contractors concerning the cracks in our chimney. The estimates we received varied greatly in both extent and nature of work as well as cost. Among these, O'Neill's suggested approach not only made the most sense but was the most reasonably priced. Jimmy O'Neill was unfailingly cordial and well informed throughout his dealings with us. He was prompt in returning our calls and punctual in arriving for appointments. Dan Brett's work crew arrived on the set date and completed the work in a day. The entire crew were polite in their personal manner and showed great diligence and skill in finishing the job. In all aspects -- courtesy, professionalism, clean-up, finished project -- we feel entirely satisfied with O'Neill Masonry. We could not recommend this company more highly.

When I called to schedule the appointment I received a call back from Jimmy in 0.5 hours. He was able to stop over later that day and I had a quote from him the next day. He answered all my questions and explained the process in detail. A crew of 3 arrived at the scheduled time and began erecting the scaffolding. They were friendly and courteous. They ground out all the mortar and started pointing the first day. They were finished the second day and everything was cleaned up. The chimney looks great. He changed the mortar color so it is a little darker and looks good with our house color. I highly recommend this company.

Work performed was of excellent quality. Jim and his staff were efficient, neat and the outcome is just - WOW! I would highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again.

This is the second time I've used O'Neill Masonry to do work on my 90 year old home and I couldn't be happier! The crew did a beautiful job rebuilding and repointing my exterior stone staircase and redoing a random-pattern flagstone walkway which came out even better than I had hoped. As with any old stone house, the biggest challenge is to make the new stonework blend in with the old. What I appreciate about O'Neill Masonry is the real effort they put into making this happen and their craftsmanship. Jimmy is easy to work with, his crew was professional and responsive to my questions. They cleaned up the job site every day and got the job done in 5 days. It's a great feeling when a project goes smoothly and when you've found a provider who you can count on for your home improvement projects and who takes pride in their work. I will definitely continue to use O'Neill Masonry in the future and recommend them highly.

The price was a good deal. The regular price was kind of high, but that was good. Their responsiveness was good. I guess their regular prices seem high so maybe, they should help a person understand why their regular price is so high. The work was done quite well.

At first ok. Later on in the process, work was done poorly. Problems arose with the patio and O'Neil didn't want to be bothered fixing it. Finally he made a repair but did so begrudgingly.

Jimmy and his crew did a great job. From start to finish, they were really nice and professional. They followed my engineer's drawings to provide a new opening in our stone exterior, to prepare for a new window and they did it seamlessly. You can't tell where the old pointing meets the new. We have had a lot of work done on our 1930's fixed upper and we have learned the value in working with nice people. Jimmy is as nice as they come. We will be calling them again.

Jimmy O'Neill and his co-workers did a truly excellent job repairing and pointing our pool deck and front walk. They arrived every day at 7 a.m. and worked until late in the afternoon. The work created lots of dust but they used leaf blowers to clean our plantings. I couldn't have asked for a more capable and pleasant crew. Did great clean up job before leaving every day. I wish that all of the contractors we have hired over the years could have been this competent and agreeable.

Front entrance: stone cheek walls along concrete steps were repointed in raised ribbon to match existing . Damaged wall portion, stones were removed & reset, and a new concrete cap was formed and poured. - $2000 Back patio: irregular flagstone patio taken up, stone saved & reused, some new stone added; stone reset in random pattern in concrete sand & cement w/small ratio of 1/2 chip stone; joints repointed in brown concrete sand & cement; borders along side railings remained in place and were stabilized; railings were set in hydraulic cement to stabilize; area under porch remained as is; job site cleaned to original condition. - $5850 Foundation wall: stone foundation wall along side of house repointed. - $1450 Quality of work is outstanding. Front steps area went from looking like disaster to looking like brand new. Flagstone patio was literally falling apart - stones could be lifted by hand and weeds were growing between stones. (You can see this in the photo, also see that some stones had already come off around the edge of the patio.) Railing was wobbly. Railing now stable and the patio is just beautiful - we can finally use it again! O'Neill Masonry knows stone work. Foundation pointing impeccable. Jim is a total professional, extremely easy to get hold of, very very responsive, and a super nice guy. His crew is respectful and very hardworking - they show up early and work hard all day long. Once they start on your job, they don't stop till it is done. I have a lot of landscaping around my patio and front steps and the plants were minimally impacted by the work. The lawn near the patio did take a hit because a tarp had to be laid out as a work surface and the days were super hot but that was pretty much unavoidable. Every day at the end of the day the worksite was cleaned up neat as a pin. I would not hesitate to hire O'Neill Masonry again, and likely will in the future. O'Neill Masonry's bid for this work was in the mid-range of bids I received. One bid was nearly twice as much, another was about a thousand less but (a) was an individual, not a small business with a crew that must be paid and (b) I had trouble getting hold of them and they could not schedule the work until several months away, whereas O'Neill scheduled us within weeks. The patio and front step cheek wall work were the original bid, the foundation work was an add-on after work had begun. I don't know what other companies might have bid for the foundation work. I was just glad to have it done - it really needed done - by people I could see were doing good quality work, and get everything done all at once. In sum I am extremely happy with the work done and with my decision to hire O'Neill Masonry.

I was happy with Jimmy's initial visit for the estimate. He was friendly and took his time in going over what they would do and what the options were for a couple variables. His price seemed fair, as I know masonry is never cheap. He scheduled me within a few weeks. They mason who did the work was friendly and efficient. He got the job done in about 5 hours. He also patched some miscellaneous cracks and holes in the vicinity of the work as Jimmy had agreed to do.
