"We have a large center hall colonial with cedar shack shingles. They've been drying out for over 20 years in the hot sun. Joe came by to provide an estimate. We agreed on one oil base coat and two finish stain coats. The entire house was power washed before anything was applied. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work done. "Estimator quoted 2 days labor and $1700. They spent 3.5 hours altogether and did the worst painting job I've ever seen done by a professional painter. When I called the estimator to recalculate the bill they said NO. You wanted painting, you got painting. No sanding, no spackling, no nothing. If a dead cat had been laying on the floor they would have painted right over it. But it was painted. The recoat time for the paint they used was 4 hours, so they could not possibly have done the job correctly to start with. The estimate was based on labor time which was quoted at 2 days. They worked less than one quarter of that time. But still charged the entire amount. All in all, a crap job and an expensive lesson."
