"On August 5, 2014, I posted a glowing review for Ben Hansen and Claymark Homes. I thought they had done a good job on our window project. In March this year I contracted them to repair damage done to the ceiling in my family room and to my half bath when I had the plumbing replaced in my house. The work was a disaster from the beginning. I removed everything from the room with the exception of an Oriental rug, a leather sofa and chair and a TV cabinet. I asked if those things needed to be removed and was assured they did not and that they would cover everything with plastic. I left the house to run an errand; and when I returned, I discovered wet plaster on my UNCOVERED furniture and rug and dust everywhere. While I knew there would be dust, they made no attempt to reduce the mess. Ben and his crew supervisor promised to be present for the project, but they were nowhere to be found for most of it. After the project was done, I began to see examples of shoddy workmanship. They chipped a corner off the crown molding, and there was a half-inch gap between the wall and the molding. They had HAMMERED the molding back up, denting it. Paint was slopped on the molding. They did not adequately sand the walls before repainting, and the surface was very noticeably uneven. After complaining, I was assured that it would all be taken care of. I was also told he wasn’t so sure that the damage to the molding wasn’t pre-existing (so I was basically accused of lying—I have photo evidence the damage was done by his crew). Ben came once to “fix” the crown molding (which was to slap on filler and stain) for the dents and to reposition the molding. Then I discovered there was a giant half-inch blob of filler at one end of the molding which looks awful (see attached). Ben was to come back to complete the work. Months later and more excuses than I can count, I gave up and did the work myself, knowing full well his work would not be satisfactory. He threatened to share my “comments” with his staff as if I care. I have never encountered such a home improvement disaster and highly suggest you find other options if you’re considering Claymark Homes for your project. This guy has a big chip on his shoulder and is his own worst enemy."

We examine your Insulation, air sealing, windows, doors, heating and air conditioning, duct sealing & lighting. We don't perform ANY work ourselves (one of very few companies who do that)...But we know who the best companies are for you to work with, so we're happy to give you recommendations and coordinate all of the work on your behalf, saving you time, money and effort! Star Energy provides Independent, third-party home energy assessments for consumers to save money and be more comfortable in their homes. We're the only company in the area that gives Angie's List members instant rebates for qualifying upgrades from utilities including MGE and KCPL for energy efficiency projects. That can save you hundreds of dollars in up front costs! We are Kansas City's largest energy audit company, completing more audits since 2010 in the State of Missouri and Kansas than any other company, earning us the EPA's century award the past 6 years.

"Ann and I recently had the pleasure of working with Ben Meyer from Star Energy Consultants, and we couldn't be happier with the service he provided. Ben conducted a comprehensive assessment of our home, covering everything from insulation, air sealing, attic, ceiling fan, windows, doors, heating and air conditioning, duct sealing, to our lighting. His attention to detail and thoroughness were truly impressive. Ben's knowledge and expertise in energy conservation and efficiency were immediately evident. After the assessment, he took the time to explain his findings and provided us with a range of practical recommendations on how to save energy and reduce our utility costs. What truly set Ben apart was his ability to connect us with skilled professionals who could carry out the necessary work. This made the entire process seamless and stress-free. Not only did Ben Meyer identify areas where we could improve our energy efficiency, but he also helped us find trusted contractors to carry out the recommended upgrades. As a result of his guidance, we've already noticed a reduction in our electric bill, and I believe we're well on our way to a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective home. Ben's professionalism, friendly demeanor, and dedication to his work made the experience enjoyable. He genuinely cares about his clients and their well-being. Thanks to his expertise and recommendations, we feel like we've saved a substantial amount of money, both in getting reliable contractors and with energy savings in the long run. I wholeheartedly recommend Ben Meyer and Star Energy Consultants to anyone looking to improve their home's energy efficiency. If you want to save money while making your home more environmentally friendly, Ben is the person to call. Thank you, Ben, for your outstanding service and for helping us make our home more energy-efficient and comfortable."

Storm Damage Specialists! We accept Cash, Check and all major Credit Cards, $50 Discount on First Repair Service of $150 or more. We include a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty on all our roof replacements.

"👎🏼took months to get the project (roof and siding) completed. There were no managers on site. They didn’t put Tyvek on and had to tear siding off of one side to re-do. The tarps they used were old and full of holes. They did not clean up debris, nails, screws, cigarette butts, razor blades. They charged us for items they did not do. When we complained to management they apologized and promised to be there the next day— and never would follow through. The sales rep changed the contract after we signed it. It took us, senior citizens, hours to clean up after them. We paid most of the money holding back some money to dispute the billing. And now we are getting threatened to put a lien on our property. I would not ever recommend this company to anyone. Zero stars. The Emerson project manager apologized saying this job did go bad and it usually didn’t go so bad. I’m disputing the bill, and they don’t care. I’m not paying for something they failed to do. Poor business 👎🏼"

The James Hardie expert in the KC metro area. My name is Ryan Hild and I am the Owner of KC Exterior Pros. I live in Leawood, KS with my wife, son and daughter. I have a bachelors degree in business from the University of Kansas and have a great background of experience and knowledge in the construction/building industry. Having worked directly for James Hardie Building Products, I have the knowledge and expertise to help you transform the exterior of your home using James Hardie fiber cement siding. With my experience and background working with building products, I can also meet your needs when it comes to window replacement and decks. I am licensed and insured as a residential contractor to work throughout the KC metro area. My first priority is to educate you on the James Hardie products and colors that are available to our market and help you design the look you want for the exterior of your home through complete in-home project consultations. We have a program that will allow us to take a picture of your home and design it by dropping in different styles, sizes and colors of James Hardie product to give you a picture of what your home can look like. My second priority is making certain that the products you choose for your home are handled and installed to meet the manufacturer’s requirements and conform to industry standards. Just meeting code is not good enough – we want everything to be perfect for you! Having been on many job sites to check/audit work while with James Hardie, I have seen the many common mistakes that are made when installing the product, which in turn causes the homeowner to lose the warranty they have paid for and expect to get from the manufacturer. I can assure my jobs will be done 100% to the James Hardie installation guidelines using the best labor crews available in the KC metro area. This gives you the peace of mind to know you will have the performance and durability a long with the manufacturer’s warranty that you deserve. Last and certainly not least, my priority is to make sure you as the homeowner have a good experience throughout the process. With daily visits to your home, I am in constant communication with my crews and you as the homeowner to ensure your 100% satisfaction. I know that our industry has a reputation for disorganization and unprofessionalism. My crews will stay on schedule, I show up on time for appointments, I return phone calls, I offer thorough proposals, we meticulously clean up jobsites, and we deliver world-class customer satisfaction guaranteed. Let me show you how we can begin to transform your home to give you the look and design you deserve for the exterior of your home with a free in home consultation.

"Our experience with Ryan and his crew on residing our home could not have been better. From the very first contact with Ryan to arrange an on-site meeting for him to develop an estimate, all the way through to the final "walk through" the day after completion of the project, the communication from Ryan was excellent. Every email/text I sent to Ryan was responded to usually within 30 minutes or less, and PROACTIVE communication from Ryan on project details was outstanding. So from a customer service standpoint, we couldn't have been more pleased. Then the work itself by his crew was also excellent. They actually started my project EARLIER then they thought they could get to it, and finished it in the three days that was estimated from the start. The work area was cleaned up each day and upon completion. And most importantly, the quality of the work and attention to detail was outstanding. Everything was done exactly as agreed, including all the caulking. Which is crucial to a quality siding job, but so easy to "accidentally" skip/forget. Absolutely A+ work and customer service from start to finish. I'd highly recommend Ryan and his team to anyone."

Window services FAQs

If you have a problem with your window, such as broken glass, minor leaks, or a problem with your window being stuck, repairing the broken part might be a cheaper option than replacing the entire window. However, if you have a deteriorating window frame or major leaks, buying a new window will be the better long-term solution.

Window replacement can become costly, especially if you’re replacing your whole home. There are a few steps you can take to help save money on the bottom cost while still giving your windows a facelift.

  • Replace multiple windows at once to bundle your purchase

  • Inquire about discounts, coupons, or special offers

  • Consider window repair as soon as you see damage to help prevent the need for replacement

  • Maintain your windows often by inspecting your windows for drafts, leaks, and cracks

There are certain window repairs that are cost-effective to DIY and relatively simple for homeowners to tackle themselves. Tasks like replacing a screen, replacing a lock, or sealing a window are typically under $30 and take minimal time to do yourself. However, if you need to replace your window or repair a broken double pane, it’s best to call in a professional window replacement installer to lend a hand. Replacing the majority or all of the windows in your home is a time consuming job and best left to a professional.

Window replacement costs between $180 and $410 per window, or an average of $280 per window. However, your specific replacement job could cost as little as $100 or as much as $750. Factors such as frame material, the number of windows you need, and the type of glass you order all impact the overall cost. For example, simple double-glazed windows will cost $3 to $6 per square foot, but the stronger tempered glass ranges from $12 to $14 per square foot.

The time it takes to replace a window is a total of four to 15 weeks. This time includes your initial consultation, appointments for measuring, as well as ordering and manufacturing your windows. For a smaller job, you can expect the total timeline to be on the shorter end, but for a whole house window replacement, it might take longer (or be split into multiple install appointments). Once your windows are created and ready to be installed, your window installer will take 30 to 60 minutes per window to install.
