"I will acknowledge that it was a bad year for storms and my repairs were not as significant as others but, once the contract was signed (July 27th) it felt like they had fallen off the edge of the earth. I hadn't heard from them for more than 6 wks for even an update as to when I might expect the work to get started. I was told that it was 'too hot' to do the roof and Sept would be a better time to do the job.Did they expect that I just fell off the turnip truck) I started calling as to when I could expect to have the job started/ Multiple VMs were left and went unanswered. Then in mid Oct. a trash bin showed up, shingles were delivered. The crew just showed up one day.. I could not converse with them as they didn't speak English. The clean up was poor at best. I had 2 tires with nails in them. When mowing the lawn. nails were being spit out. I had concerns about how the shingles were laying on the front roof and the damages to the gutters. In broken English I was told that the raised shingles were normal and over time they will lay flat. The gutters were repaired with a can of spray paint. Multiple VMs went unanswered. I started leaving voice messages to try and pin down a time frame as to when to expect the siding to be completed. Mid december, I spoke with the production lead, Eric. I expressed my frustration and anger at the lack of communication. Many 'I'm sorry and 'we're so busy' responses were given. Eric told me that I was on the schedule the 4th week in Jan. That week came and went. I started calling and leaving vms daily. The work crew showed up early Feb. It took them several days to complete siding on one wall. They didn't do clean up until they were done. I have a dog and 4 children that play in that area. As they were finishing, I noticed that the sample piece of siding that was removed in July had still not been replaced. Daily vms (total of 7) were left with no response.. I was finally able to get an office person to answer the phone on 2/12. I was told it was too cold to replace it until 2/14 when it gets warmer. Eric stated that he guarantees this. The day has come and gone and no phone call. (it is all of a 2 min job) My insurance company has asked me on 3 occasions to get the company to return their calls. Intelligent Design submitted their bills and used the wrong figures for the taxes. As far as I know, that call has not been returned to them."

I’m frankly at a loss how they have such glowing reviews given we experienced a lack of communication, improper initial installation that resulted in a lengthy delay of interconnection, multiple improper repairs of the initial installation failure, failure to provide our warranty documents, and just a complete lack of good faith effort to identify, correct, and prioritize their errors as they occurred. For brevity, I’m only going to describe a few of the larger issues, but I also have plenty of documentation from emails, phone records and voicemails, showing numerous smaller issues occurring throughout the entire process. 1. Our system was improperly installed and failed its interconnection test with Xcel. This caused a 3-week delay in activation. They said they fixed it that day but no one could tell me what they changed… 2. …So I had to repeatedly ask our project manager to send someone out to make sure it was fixed. They sent an electrician on the morning of our 2nd test. He spent 4 hours working on it. It passed but… 3. …1/2 of our panels were not working at, and after, the time of the interconnection test. I discovered this the next morning when we weren’t generating our expected power. 4. Upon notification of our system problem, our project manager said they’d send someone “in a few days” to look at it. Really? After multiple installation errors by All Energy Solar it still was not a priority to fix. I had to track down a manager in their service department who did prioritize checking it out. Turned out the last electrician left a fuse out of the non-functional string. I hope our interconnection pass was legitimate, but I really have no way of knowing. 5. Our closeout meeting was never scheduled. I had to call and email to get it scheduled. At our closeout meeting I was told our warranty documentation would be emailed shortly. It’s a month later, I’ve asked for it twice and it still hasn’t arrived. 6. We were billed for equipment that was not needed. To All Energy’s credit they did notify me of the error, but it 6 weeks and multiple phone calls to actually get the money returned. Twice we were told it was in the mail only to have it not arrive because it had not actually been sent yet. I’m leaving out other details on scheduling errors, general lack of communication on everything, and other more minor but still concerning events that occurred. I was left with the feeling that they do not pay any attention to details, do not have any desire to proactively fix their errors, I have no faith in the quality of the install, and in general they were extremely frustrating and disappointing to work with. Consider yourself warned. I wish we had been before signing a contract with them."

An energy audit costs about $420 on average, ranging from $100 to $2,250, depending on the size of your home, property, location, and the tests the auditor needs to perform. Keep in mind that the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act’s Energy Efficient Home Improvement credit covers up to $150 of home energy audit costs. Common energy audit tests include:
Blower door test: $350
Duct testing: $100
HERS test: $375
HERS certification: $200
Infrared imaging: $200
To find a reputable energy auditor, find a local company that offers energy audit services. Research the company’s reviews, methods, and certifications to find a reliable professional in your area. The most reputable energy audit companies are HEP-certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local energy auditor guidelines to ensure you’re hiring a certified professional.
The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency.
A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.
Typically, a local home energy auditor is responsible for performing energy audits. A home energy auditor will conduct one of three energy audits designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to determine the energy efficiency of your home. The auditor often provides analysis that can help guide changes and improvements to your home for better energy efficiency, giving recommendations as necessary.
The three levels of home energy audits include:
Level 1: Review of your energy bills and home for signs of energy inefficiency and areas for improvement. The average cost range is $0.08 to $0.12 per square foot.
Level 2: A level 2 ASHRAE energy audit costs $0.12 and $0.35 per square foot. In-depth analysis of your energy usage and provides a report of cost-saving changes.
Level 3: Comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations for ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A level 3 audit costs about $0.36 to $0.50 per square foot.
