Mike showed up on time and proceeded to put on his booties to keep my floors and carpet clean. Within in five minutes, he showed me the defective part and where it was leaking and after the paperwork was completed, another five minutes and he was done.
Description of Work: The tank on my toilet wasn't holding water and would automatically refill when it reached a certain level. Although not a tremendous problem, it was annoying in the middle of the night to hear the automatic refill kick in.

They were very good. I was pleased with the work they did. The plumber that came knew what he was doing and was very good. He was dressed nicely and was well groomed. When I called, someone answered the phone right away which was nice. The guy came out the next day, and he actually arrived early and apologized for being early. I was very impressed.
Description of Work: They replaced my sump pump and repaired my outdoor faucet because it was always leaking.

Thorough work, but very expensive. Also, the company apparently had introduced a charge to service DC, which they said they waived for me.
Description of Work: Repair clogged toilet. 2 hours of work; supplies included some foam. Work performed by a nice subcontractor.

We were renting the house at the time (prior to buying) so I did not shop around and relied soley on Angie's list recommendation of this company. While they showed up on time and got the job done, I think they are way overpriced. They have a book with set prices for each job and I'm sorry but I don't know how you can justify $325 (after the coupon!) for 15 minutes of labor. He explained to me (politely) that Jim sets the price such that I pay the same if my job took 8 hours for a similar problem.... great so I paid for someone else's 8 hour job??? Lastly, they plumber did not clean up well such that I had to wipe sludge spray off the ceiling of the bathroom.
Description of Work: My bathroom sink would not drain. The plumber snaked the drain and tightened a few things and that was it-- 15 minutes tops. He was very curtious and answered my questions but I think their prices are inflated.

The young man was pleasant and very professional. He arrived on time and put on booties when he was in the house to keep the carpet clean. The company offered a 2 year warranty on the installation. Upon finishing the installation, he cleaned up and removed the trash. We felt the price was out of line with the work that was done but were pleased with the job.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet with a new faucet we had purchased. The garbage disposal did not have to be removed.

Great! Although it took us a couple of weeks to realize that the weird noises we were hearing were coming from the furnace, when we saw the iced over valve and shut of the desperately whining fan, we called Jim's Inc. at 11pm and talked to a live person who got us a technician to call back w/in 30 minutes to make sure we were safe - shut off motor to prevent electrical fire, etc. and listen to our story. He told us to call 1st thing in the am to make a same-day appt, which we did. The technician arrived right during the window he indicated, was very professional and asked to remove the motor to ensure the correct replacement. The next day, he returned when he said he would and replaced the motor and got everything working again. We were very happy with the service and the advice he gave us about filters.
Description of Work: Our furnace fan motor was dying and our AC was not working well...almost had an electrical fire! Jim's Inc. replaced the motor and cleaned and checked the entire furnace and AC systems. Explained to us about our filters causing more work for the fan to draw air and recommended a regular (instead of "allergenic") filter.

The very competent technician arrived, well-equipped and within the time frame specified. The quality of work, performed by Nana with efficiency and precision, was excellent. This is a complex task, because as we were subsequently informed, the kitchen drain pipes in the condo unit were occluded! A great job well done! A few weeks later Jim's successfully installed a water filter system for me.
Description of Work: Snake kitchen sink stoppage about 40 feet long.

They were horrendously expensive. I was very unhappy with the person assigned to me. They were very pleasant and the particular person assigned to me was very chatty. They did not charge by the hour, but by the job. My time was worth something too and he spent too much time. He was willing to do the job.

These people are not what I thought they were going to be. They were the first company I used based on an Angie's List recommendation and they ripped me off big time. They grossly overcharged me for a water heater and they installed it backward making it incredibly difficult to light it or adjust it. Their guy did not show up on time and, in fact, is a contractor, not a Jim's employee. On a subsequent visit another of their guys came to fix a slow leak. He actually did a good enough job but slammed the work of the first guy. These people are not what they are supposed to be. Besides the Angie's List recommendation, the reason I used them was that supposedly I need a licensed plumber to install a water heater and to have it inspected by the county. The county inspection, which Jim's was supposed to arrange, never took place. Basically, the lesson I learned from this is that you should take recommendations on Angie's List with a big grain of salt. One or two people might have had good experiences with these people and weighted the Angie's List report on the positive side but my experience with Jim's was lousy. Also, they convinced me to pay extra for a service contract in order to keep me on the hook as a Jim's customer. This is just a scam.

Mike installed a new water heater for us; he recognized that a related part needed to be updated to meet code, and spent quite a while on the installation (they work on flat fees, not by the hour). He informed us that the heater would need to be inspected by the water company; Jim's Inc should have sent us the inspection form immediately, but they didn't send it until I called and inquired a month later. The heater failed inspection, for a missing expansion tank which the inspector said the plumber should have known about. I called Jim's Inc back and expressed my dissatisfaction that it didn't pass inspection and that I had to have more work done, and requested compensation for it. The person on the phone was quite dismissive of the inspector's remark but was helpful in scheduling the extra work at a time convenient for me. Mike came back for the work, and explained that there had been a major update to the code for water heaters last summer and he just hadn't known about the update for expansion tanks when he installed ours. He installed the expansion tank with no problem and didn't charge us for the work, which I thought was entirely appropriate. We also asked for estimates and advice about a couple of other projects around the house. He provided some helpful advice about a water line for our refrigerator; he also provided some advice about the pop-up kit in my bathroom sink which we suspect was not good advice. The sink stopper no longer worked, and he said one part had disintegrated but the whole pop-up kit had to be replaced because you can't buy just the one part. He gave me an estimate of $320 for Jim's Inc to replace it. Turns out a pop-up kit is only about $20 and can be replaced by someone who's handy; it also turns out that you *can* buy just the one part that was gone. So overall, I thought the work was done well; the water heater did pass inspection the second time and I haven't had a problem with it. However, their prices are very high, and I suspect that sometimes they may recommend more work than is really necessary.

I was disappointed that they couldn't give any range of prices over the phone. I knew that my drain needed to be snaked with a K50 and was looking for some general sense of what that would likely cost. This happens every few years. I called on a Monday, they booked me for Wednesday morning. The dispatcher said that she was finding the right person for my job. On Tuesday they called back and said there was an error in the booking and asked me about other available times. I was rebooked for a Friday morning. The plumber called me a few minutes before he arrived. Very prompt. But turns out, no-one told him that it was a KITCHEN sink, he came with a tiny snake for a bathroom sink. His K-50 snake has been broken for the past 2 months. I was VERY disappointed that they sent someone to clean out a kitchen sink drain who didn't have the right equipment on his truck. I took time away from work to be at the appointment. The plumber was very nice, had booties on, tried calling someone else from their company to see if they could come over, apologized, no luck until the following Tuesday. When my wife got home, she was so frustrated, she called Roto Rooter who came out the next day to do the job. With all the glowing reports on Angie's list, I wanted to use Jim's, but I had already waited 5 days and my wife was out of patience. Make sure your dispatcher and your plumbers talk before going out to a job so you aren't wasting my or your plumber's time!

You can be very vulnerable when you are not familiar with that "type" of industry. It is so reassuring to know, that were you handled with "care".
Description of Work: My water heater was leaking small amounts of water. I was so worried that I might need to purchase a new water heater. HP (name of technician) came out within 2 hours of my phone call. I told HP, my worries, he was very sensitive to my "unexpected problem", he assured me that he would find the "lowest" possible solution and HE DID IT!!! He also, gave me some extra "tips" on being prepared of another "water" situation in the basement. I did all his recommendations. These were HELPFUL precautions that I would have NEVER known unless he took the time to "give that EXTRA CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I called Jim's on Friday, 01/02. We scheduled an electrician for Tuesday, 01/06, at 11 AM. Marcus showed up at 10:58. We explained the problem and he began following the down circuit and testing each point. The fault was in a broken plug box. He replaced the box and re-tested the circuit. All work was done and he had left before 12 noon. He was polite and courteous.
Description of Work: An electrical circuit quit working. The circuit was tested until the failing spot was located and fixed.

I contacted Jim's on Friday, 01/02, and scheduled a plumber for Tuesday 01/06 at 8 AM. Mike arrived at 07:56 AM. He examined the work to be done and quoted me an estimate. He bought the needed parts and finished the installation of the bathroom sink. It took him several hours, as he apparently ran into some unexpected snags. Nonetheless, the work was done quite well. Mike even explained to my 4 year old grandson, step-by-step, what he was doing. It was a superb job, Mike.
Description of Work: Jim's repaired the installation job that I had attempted on a bathroom sink.

I discovered water coming through the front hall closet ceiling, which is just under a bathroom. Naturally, this is just as we completed a significant renovation to our house, and so I was panicked that the new paint and floors would be affected. I called Jim's around noon, and Mimi (I found out her name later) was very nice but said that she had no one to send until the next day. Since the leaking was slow, I said OK, and mentioned the renovation (her phone empathy invites these stories I think!). She said, "Hold on..." and after a brief hold, she said she could get someone (HP) out at 3:00. At about 2:50, HP called me to say he would be about 5 minutes late and he hoped that this was OK. !! Who the heck calls to say they are 5 minutes late? No one even thinks of that as being late anymore, so I was very impressed with this. HP found the source of the leak, which had to do with old, disintegrating caulk in the bathroom, and said that I could fix it myself if I wanted to, it was easy. He then showed me how to do it, and even had me practice with some caulk before he left. He also provided his ideas with what I could do if I wanted to renovate the bathroom, to bring it into the 21st century (my words, not his!), but there was no pressure, and he gave me great information. I will definitely use them later, when we have the money to do the renovation! Oh - - as others have said on this site, HP was very clean, easy to talk to and easy to understand when he explained stuff, and put booties on his shoes so he did not track dirt into the house. Really nice touch!
Description of Work: A water leak source was found. The "fix" was simply taking off the old caulk in a bathroom tub, and reapplying new caulk. I was given the choice of having Jim's do it, or if I wanted to save money, to do it myself. There was no pressure either way (I chose to do it myself).

Our water heater went out late Friday and we didn't realize it, of course, until Saturday morning. I left 3 messages with 3 different companies. 2 called back within about 15 to 20 minutes. Jim's was first. The operator was wonderful and sympathetic and told me about the $200 emergency service fee (almost apologetically) and said I could speak with the plumber before making my decision. The plumber was very knowledgeable and nice as well and willing to come out within the hour. Jim's emergency fee was comparatively much more reasonable than the other company's fee. I had the plumber come out and he was very knowledgeable and willing to show me exactly what was wrong and fixed my water heater quickly. He even wore shoe covers to protect my floors! 2 days later my water heater started overflowing and I frantically called Jim's again. They responded quickly first by phone and then in person. In fact, the plumber (H.J.) who worked my water heater the first time took the call between other calls and came right out and replaced the pressure relief valve. I appreciated their service so much, I have them out today to perform a full inspection and replace my garbage disposal. Impressive customer service and work!
Description of Work: Water heater thermo copper wire replaced. Pressure Relief valve replaced. Full inspection of plumbing & replacement of the garbage disposal which has been going bad for some time now. They have a price list where they show you exactly what the cost will be.

It went really well. I was there while he worked, and it wasn't the easiest thing to do. It took a while to get the piece that had broken off out of the floor, but it went really smoothly. It was a very delicate job because he could have damaged the threading from the pipe, but it went really well.
Description of Work: There was a piece of pipe that had broken off from the hot water pipe in the floor of the bathroom. He was able to remove the broken piece of pipe out so I could fix the pipe.

I thought that the representative was very sensitive in keeping my house clean. Before entering my house, he placed disposable booties on his feet. You would have never known he did any work in my house, he was so clean. The job was very professional. Even the worker was extremely clean and courteous.

They had trouble scheduling - they changed the appointment 2 times and then he showed up unexpectedly. He stayed in the driveway for over an hour working up an estimate. That was very uncomfortable - another electrician came to give us an estimate while he was still parked in our driveway because he arrived unexpectedly and stayed so long. We got estimates from 3 other companies in the $200-$400 range. Theirs was $1050! When he gave me the estimate, he told me that there was a $49 charge for estimates! I told him that nobody had told me about that when I called and I wasn't going to pay it. He said OK.
Description of Work: Marcus came out to give us an estimate to repair/replace 6 exterior outlets, hang 2 exterior light fixtures and replace line to swimming pool equipment.
