I have now learned that having a clogged main sewer line is a job that separates the "handyman" plumber from a real professional like Jim's. Owner, HP was lifesaver that I wish I had called first as he was the third plumber in two weeks. Jim's Inc., is who you want to call when you want your issue solved the first time and not suffer through repeated visits to solve the same problem without finding the root cause. In my case, HP didn't just snake the line and give me a bill but videoed the sewer line determined this was an issue that WSSC needed to be called in on (and gave me a DVD for insurance purposes).

Jim's Inc did fantastic job, beginning to end. From the estimate to the followup after the install. HP spent almost the entire day on the job, doing more than required to get things "right". Even things that were not his responsibility, he did it. And that was what we wanted. No shortcuts, no nonsense, just honest and fair pricing with a high quality result from a person who care's just a little bit more. The guy even played soccer with our dog outside for a few minutes. She loved it, and when he stopped by the following day to check in, she was happy to see him! We did get some lower estimates from some, but those plumbers did not even show up to see the space and what had to be done. Just a price over the phone. Jim's came on site to do a survey and walkthrough before pricing anything out. Told us what we did NOT need to do what what we did. Quote may have been slightly higher but I am pretty sure that the other folks pricing would have changed once they came on site. No surprises here, and some bonus work to boot. In short, nice people, seemed to care, friendly and above and beyond type of people that you want by your side when you need it most. I don't write reviews, and am surprised I am writing one about a water heater installation but seemed to be warranted... found them on Angie's list, they will be our Plumbing and HVAC team moving forward. Thank you!

Jim is just fabulous. They are excellent. He is honest, capable and a good person to work with.

This particular visit from Jim's was a semi-emergency call as we discovered a leaky pipe in the basement. It seems our home's previous owner had also known about this leak and had tried to repair it with something like that Mighty Putty product as seen on tv. Yikes - what a mess. Since we didn't know about the putty at first, Nana asked me to come down and he demonstrated to me how the putty would not be able to simply be removed for the easy patch we originally discussed. He asked my permission to cut out more of the pipe and to then patch that entire section. I was very pleased with his attention to detail and explaining everything to me as he went along. We have the service plan with Jim's and have always been very happy with the service. On our annual inspections, HP will often find a few things that need to be "tweaked" and he takes care of those for us as part of the original service plan cost (nothing additional). We have never had anything but great experience with the plumbers from Jim's Inc.

Recently have had bad experiences with plumbers, not so with Jim's. Harold, the plumber who did the work was outstanding. He called when he was on his way, very polite and courteous. He thourghly explained the work he would do and the price quote. He was very careful to keep work area neat and clean, with floor and shoe coverings. Would not hesitate to use again and no hesitation in recommending.

Outstanding. The plumber, HP, struck me as a real pro. He was on time, worked fast, and was courteous. Price was reasonable and included a discount for handling multiple jobs. Would ask for HP by name again. My only nitpick is that the voicemail for the Gaithersburg office didn't seem to work properly, but the office called me back immediately (less than 10 seconds later) when I failed to get through on the first try.

We signed up for their annual inspection plan and so far we have been happy with it, although we haven't had any recent plumbing issues.

The work was fine, and Nana was professional and courteous. The rationale for me giving the COMPANY lower than average marks is their pricing policies. I understand they should charge more for sinks containing chemical drain cleaner. the policy that they can't give you any sort of guess-timate over the phone, and I'm talking about a ballpark of a typical job plus or minus 100%. Yet Nana arrived with a bill filled out and ready without the tech speaking to me (I only spoke to the nice woman answering the phone - she denied she was a plumbing technician). NOTE: I also contacted Len the plumber, and they seem to have the same price policy, can't provide any ball park amount, but if they show up and give you an estimate without doing the work, it's a $50.00 charge, unless you agree to the price and then they'll credit it toward the service charge. They are nice, they are friendly, they clean up afterward, and professional, but an estimate is gonna cost $50.00 (or $49.95). Would I used Jim's Montgomery County's Favorite Plumber again? Maybe, if I couldn't get an estimate from anyone else first. at least I'll know the work is good, I just won't know if I was being a sucker and paid twice what i should / could have paid.

Great! Nana was our technician and he was on time, professional, and courteous.. I the son had a slight concern and I spoke to a very nice lady and she helped explain everything. Nana then called me back the same day and explained everything since only my mom was there during the visit. Although the price is slightly higher than what we expected, I am proud of Nana and team. Very skilled. Keep up the great customer service!

Terrible. The plumber came in with an estimate already drawn up - before he even assessed our situation. He had a brought a $300 faucet without asking us any price range. His total bill was $750 to replace our faucet. Let me say that again - SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. He was and quot;kindand quot; enough to discount it to $675. He told my wife he made no money on the faucet - which was clearly a lie, as we found the exact model online for $215. He told her it would take him 45 minutes to repair. So, he was trying to charge us 450 dollars for 45 minutes of labor, or $600/hour. When my wife called I laughed out loud and told her to tell him to leave. I didn't want to pay the $49 service call, and he told her the office would call to discuss that the next day. Three days later, they never called. I feel bad for folks who have used this service and been duped. This service does do good work - or at least he did for us when I had no frame of reference for what I was paying. I did some research online, and the most this job should have costed, even in this pricey county, is $450 for a top of the line faucet. At the end of this all I found out the faucet actually had a minor link that i fixed in 10 minutes myself. And to think, I could have been $675 out of pocket. EDIT: I updated my professionalism grade from an F to a C, after my wife received her check back for the 49.00 for the visit (2 1/2 months later.)

Wonderful service. I called on a Tuesday and they came out on Wednesday to fix 3 problems. HP walked through and listened to my concerns and problems with the plumbing. He then sat down with me and went over pricing. I chose to do the 2 most immediate problems and wait for a bit on the third. He quickly solved the problems and reviewed how to correct them in the future. It was so easy that he didn't charge the original price. That allowed me to fix the third problem and it was all taken care of quickly and easily. HP, the plumber, checked in with me a few times just in case I had any other questions. I have tried other plumbers who did down and dirty jobs, but they were quality work and cheap materials. I will now only want to use Jim's Inc going forward.

We give our wholehearted endorsement to Jim's Inc., of Derwood, Md., which did the renovation work on two of our bathrooms. One of the jobs was a complete refurbish down to the studs and the other involved some structural improvements and new tile floors and vanity. For both jobs, Jim's crew was extremely professional, not only doing expert work on new plumbing, wall and floor tiling and new fixtures, but also in providing practical advice and guidance that saved us money and improved the final look of the projects. The crew tried to cause as little disruption as possible to the rest of the house, kept coming back to make sure all the final touches were completed properly and then brought in a cleanup team to bring the bathroom to shiny finish. Called Jims since they were in Angies List, was told they had to come out and look at job to estimate. Job was for a faucet replacement. Mike came out and looked at faucet I had purchased from Lowes and looked at price list (could of done this over phone instead of waste my time and money). Then tells me price of over $500 gasssp! it should take a plumber 1 to 1 1/2 hours to switch out old for newer faucet. absolutely ridiculous price. Needless to say I did not use the service and do not feel the $49 service called is justified. Additionally I notice the Angies List profile says free estimates.

They charged us a lot of money for doing something that didn't need to get done. After I called him about the problems, we negotiated for a 3 year warranty on everything and I asked that he send me a letter indicating that and to also include all parts AND labor, but when I got the warranty he only guaranteed his parts, not labor. I am not willing to say anything about whether or not I would recommend him until a few years from now to see if our warranty of part and labor holds up, which is what was agreed upon on the phone. The jury is still out.

I got his information out of an Angie's List magazine. He showed up on time. I thought he was overpriced for what he did, so I was not very happy with the services. I will probably never use him again.

They were very professional. They did good work. They gave me inspiring confidence and they did the work quietly and efficiently.

I found him on Angie's List. I was unimpressed. He was very overpriced. They came here for a simple thing, something simple, they were here just chatting with me for 2 and frac12; hours, and they didn't find the problem. I'm not happy about it. I took care of the problem myself. I don't' know if that was just my experience or if that's just the way they work. I called them because they were in your booklet, and I thought they were good, but I'm not impressed. They charged us quite a bit of money, but they didn't solve the problem although they were here twice. They were on time and very courteous. I also showed him a coupon I had for $20 off, but I didn't get the discount. I checked for the credit when I looked at my invoice.

Jim's service was impeccable. We have used them often over the last two years and is out only HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical company that we will use. They were on-time, wore booties when they walked in our house. They quoted the work before starting and showed us all the parts that were bad as well as explained why they needed to be replaced. They are amazing! We have and will recommend them to all of our friends and family members.

The Jim's Inc promise is that they would tell you the price up front and there would be no surprises - imagine my surprise when the $2500 price they quoted me actually came to over $5000. When they brought me the final bill, I was told they didn't realize they would have to replace the hose to the pump and other parts that were clearly part of the well pump assembly. I contacted the company to complain and was told that these things happen and the best they could do was not charge me for the $500 fix that didn't work. I received my credit card bill a month later and found that they had indeed charged me $1500 for the water heater, $500 for the repair that didn't fix anything and $5000 for the well pump (which according to other research should have been a $2000 job). I was eventually able to get them to refund $500, but that was it. I will never use this company again and recommend that you don't either.

Nana arrived before the scheduled start time and called to tell us he was on the way. I was in a state of shock to find that a water heater replacement would cost from $1300 to $2300 depending on the size of the tank I picked. I picked an 80 gal tank because the 10 year warranty on the 80 gal unit ended up costing about the same as a 10 year warrantied 66 gal unit. I expected to pay $700-$900. Nana's explanation was that the cost of copper is now very high. He said just 2 months ago I would have paid much less. This did not make me feel better. How much copper is in a water heater anyway??? Jim's does good work and are very professional but when Lowe's says a 80 gal hot water heater costs $795 ( I searched today) and the one I get from Jim's is $2223.00 this thing better be perfect. We did get alot of rusty water leakage on the carpet in the basement (indoor -outdoor carpet) so that carpet will have to be cleaned but there was no way this was not going to be a messy job. The old hot water heater was all rusted at the bottom and I was determined not to replace it before its time. I would have if I had known the cost was going to go up that much. This seemed very costly. I am sure I'll motivate myself to feel better about this later but $2223.00 for a water heater? The only reason I gave Jim's a B in overall rating was the cost and to be fair that is probably not Jim's fault (but right now I can't prove that to myself). ** REVISION** Months later - everything is fine. There were never any leaks. I do believe I got top quality work done but as far as the new water heater goes ...I'll have to revise again 10 years from now and if everything is still fine I'll feel like I got a bargain.

To install a toilet and three bathroom sink faucets that had already been purchased, he wanted to charge $1540. I went to Home Depot and they quoted me $504 to do the exact same work. He is way overpriced.

Had "Big Deal" from Angie's. Shoulda known not to go with a grade "B" contractor. Who the HECK gave them a POH nom?! Shame on Angie's for promoting this company. Don't tell them you have a coupon if you're calling them for appt. Be prepared for a knot in your stomach after they leave. Mimi phone recept. was friendly and up front about the $49 service fee, which is waived if Jim's does the work. Now I know why -- their prices are SO outrageous, they got tired of driving around collecting no cashola. Left msg., Mimi called back right away (score). Got an appointment next day - a REAL appointment at noon, not a 4 - 6 hour window (Score!). OK, so. I have a shower that's a single handle, installed within the last year. Got new water heater and installer turned down the temp to the "safe" temp which isn't hot enough. Asked Jim's to adjust to allow more hot water when it's turned to all hot. Regular story on toilet leak. Flapper, fill arm, whatever, it leaks. Please fix. H.P. arrived in an unmarked huge truck early! SCORE!! I also now know why the truck was unmarked based on another review -- they sub out labor. H.P. was very friendly, seemed professional, and showed me everything and why it wasn't working correctly. A little heavy on the drama, "Ohhhh, I don't even know what this brand is! I'll try to fix it for you, but I don't know ......... I might have to replace it. I see what I can do for you. Yeah, don't worry, I see ..." Then w/ the toilet, "Oh, I don't know if I have this part in the truck [are you kidding me? with that monstrosity you don't have the guts to the TOILET as a PLUMBER?]. Might have to replace whole thing, might have to just replace the arm ... I see what I can do for you." Well, yeah, that's why I called you. Estimate: "Value price" $286 for a "Minor Repair" in his handy-dandy binder book you see others refer to. Well, that's an $X savings over the next column "Regular price" -- "Regular price of whom?" H.P. doesn't know. OK, fine, I have $150 from Angie's. Shower repair just labor, probably. Go ahead. First, he spent an HOUR trying, unsuccessfully, to adjust the single handle shower to allow me to turn it further for more hot water. Finally he tells me it's not adjustable (you didn't know that before?). I find that hard to believe esp. considering installer had me go in and feel the water to see if it was hot enough (that was before new water heater). He also tells me it should be a Moen faucet. Whatever. He wants to check the HW heater - no thanks. "No charge ...." No thanks. He finally wrenches and rigs it so that it gets hotter, but it also turns nearly off when you get to the hottest setting. No worse than my rigging of taking out the inside part. Down to the toilet. That took only 20 minutes. Yay. Time for the bill. So, I get the $286 for "minor repair" and $105 labor for wasting my time not fixing the shower, but OH WAIT! Let me take $100 off for minor repair and $25 off the shower faucet labor. (Aren't you generous?) Why overcharge people then make it like you're the hero by cutting the price by a third? Total cost $271. Well, HERE's the kicker: I hand him Angie's coupon and ka-POW!!! "Well, I already gave you $125 off." "Well, that was nice of you, but your prices are outrageous, so the bait and switch worked in this case." Argument ensues; I find out he's paid on COMMISSION (oh, holy mother of God, no wonder!). He relents, takes off the $150, I end up paying $121, he repeatedly mutters, "I learned my lesson." To which I retort, "What, ask if they have a coupon first?" "I learned my lesson ........." Dear Chuck the Plumber, I'm sorry I cheated on you, won't happen again, even for an Angie's Deal. DON'T GO HERE and if you have a coupon, for God's sake, don't tell them up front.
