Took advantage of the $99 special for Whole House Energy Audit, Infrared Scan, & Blower Door Test. Brandon did our inspection on 9/6/12. We have a 1 ½ story over a basement with single and double attached garages. A workroom is above the 2 car garage. A sunroom is off our family room and has a crawl space underneath. Brandon checked our home top to bottom and did the blower door test using some neat equipment. He identified a lot of small leaks which not only waste energy but made some of our areas uncomfortable. The attic was not getting proper circulation because the insulation wasn?t installed correctly. We delayed getting the work done due to some health issues. We hired Energy Savers to do all the work that was identified and they came on 10/30/12. The team of friendly and courteous young men worked very hard, communicated well, took no breaks nor lunch, protected our carpet with drop cloths, and vacuumed after the work was completed. They were eager to please and went out of their way to make sure we were pleased with all their work as they progressed. They stayed until the job was complete and we are very happy. Won?t know about actual energy savings for a while but can already tell the comfort level has improved. Second blower door test done on 11/13. The test showed our home is now tighter and is in the range we are supposed to be in. Brandon found a few minor things he would like to see better and is sending someone out first part of December to take care of them (at no further charge). Hoping for lower heating and air conditioning bills but am satisfied with the increased comfort level.
Description of Work: In the crawl space, they removed our thinner ground cover and installed a thicker one. They installed insulated board around the foundation walls sealing it in. Attic – Removed existing batt insulation that was preventing proper air circulation. Caulked and draft sealed attic floor, knee walls, and plates. Installed radiant barrier in knee walls. Cut, framed, installed, insulated and weather stripped access doors. Installed R-board and sealed between floor joists cavities. Blew insulation over existing batt at knee wall and overhead. Caulked & sealed using foam and installed R-13 unfaced insulation around basement perimeter. Foam sealed pipes, heating ducts, around basement windows, and anywhere there was hole or gap. Workroom over garage – added insulation under floor and behind knee wall and installed radiant barrier in knee wall.

He was very professional and was very knowledgeable on HVAC and Home insulation. He gave a full list of items that needed to be done and the prices. All prices seemed reasonable. Most of the time I am blown away by the first estimate by a contractor, but not this time. He has been very slow at giving me the numbers/results of the Blower Door Test. My friend used him and his services and He could not say enough about this company. But I am still waiting on the numbers for the blower door test. Otherwise very good.

I purchased the Angie's List 'Big Deal' for a home energy audit, infared scan and blower test. He performed the blower test but not the infared scan, explaining that the temperature difference between outside and inside wasn't enough to show any significant results. He was at my house for about an hour. At the end he said he would send me the results in about a day or two, which he did. What was in the report however was nothing more than a glorified estimate for their insulation services. He didn't go near as in depth with his findings as I believed he would.

Everything went perfectly. Brandon came to do the estimate; explained in detail what work I needed, and what I could forego. Explained the rebate programs available for energy saving installations. We scheduled the work; the guys showed up 2 minutes early; stayed WAY late to finish the work; were exceptionally detailed to make sure things were done right; and cleaned up perfectly well. Linda, the owner, showed up to monitor what had been done, and test the finished work. There was one small (tiny) thing she wasn't satisfied with; she worked with the guys to perfect it. Great job by one and all.
Description of Work: Surveyed the insulation work I might need; explained all details; did the "blower test" that measures current conditions; proposed what work they would do.

From start to finish, Energy Savers delivered on their promises. The initial call for an estimate was easy and the sales person showed up exactly when he said he would. After a few minutes in my attic, he got to work writing up the estimate. This is the only area where I wasn't completely satisfied. I gave them specific direction on what I wanted done to my house. He came back with an estimate for the work I requested and a ton of other work too. By comparison, the foam injection place I called came out and looked at exactly what I wanted them to look at and bid on exactly the work I wanted done. In the end, the injection foam option was too expensive and wasn't really worth it on our small ranch home. Energy savers pared the bid down to the work I wanted only and we scheduled the work to be done the next week. A crew came out on-time and went right to work. Everything was fine. The only thing I can say bad was that there were a few clumps of fuzz around the house.

Their company had a modicum of professionalism and were good on timeliness. Two Mexican workers were EXCELLENT and very respectful of my home and worked VERY hard. Three college guys who did the crawlspace were worthless, sloppy and didn't perform work to specifications (eg. didn't calk properly and didn't seal furnace ducts). The work done by the Mexicans was very neat and orderly. HOWEVER, the results of 3000.00 in work had negligible results and improvement in my home comfort level and my heating bills, very unlike the stats that I was given by the Energy Audit done by Energy Savers. Again, Energy Savers said if I had this work done they would reduce my house air leakage from 3945 CFM50 to 908 CFM50. When the State of KY came out to do their Energy Audit after the work was done, the house air leakage only went down VERY LITTLE. As a matter of fact I don't think it went lower than around 3000 a far cry from the proposed 908!!!!. I don't have the exact numbers as I never got a printed report from the State of KY, but I'm sure those numbers are on record. Energy Savers came back and did some additional calking in the attic bedroom. I doubt that this had any great improvement. The State never came back and did another audit after that calking was done, but I would bet that if they came back today and did another audit there would be negligible improvement. Since then my energy bills show very little, if any improvement compared with their proposed savings - certainly in the heating end of things. For example, I just received my gas and electric bill. Last year the average gas ccf per day used was 4.2. This year is was 6.2 - it went up! Granted I raised my thermostat 5 degrees from where I had it last year - thinking I was going to save at least 30% on my heating bills (a conservative savings hope, given the proposed 50% savings in heating bills proposed) as the audit performed by Energy Savers said I would (and I understand this 50.21 % is an estimate, but it doesn't even come close!!). I would say that I am saving very little on my heating bills. Keep in mind the average temperature last year at this time was 31 degrees. This year it was much warmer at 39 degrees and still I used MORE gas this year than last year! With the proposed savings, even if I did turn my thermostat up 5 degrees from last year, one would think the end result would be a greater savings, especially given the average temperature this year. I am sad to say, as they were very friendly, that I believe I spent 3000.00 (around 2300.00 after refund from the State of KY) with results that did not come close to the savings they proposed and the great difference there would be in air leakage numbers. I never would have spent this money, but after seeing their great proposed savings of over 50% on my heating bills I went for it - only to be very disappointed in the end and feeling that it was basically a waste of money! UPDATE JULY 2012: Energy Savers did contact me regarding my disappointment and they did come to the house to perform another blow test and try to see what the problem was and why the CFMs were barely under 3000 (instead of the promised 908). My impression of the young guy running the test is that he did not quite know what he was doing. They did find an area where air was coming in that they could not get to that was causing CFMs to be so high. They simply said they could not get to it so they couldn't fix the problem. And so CFMs are still barely under 3000. They tried plugging holes here and there to litte avail. Also they screwed 9 screws through my wood paneling upstairs in an effort to shut an attic access door tightly. One would think that they would ask persmission before putting 9 screws through my wood paneling! My question is: Why did they not find the big area leaking air that they could not fix because it was inaccessible in the first place??? One would think that they would have discovered this on the first blow test - before talking me into $3000.00 worth of work which was not necessary and has made little difference in my heating and cooling bills! SO I STAND BY MY GRADE OF "F" FOR THIS COMPANY. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE SEEKING INSULATION WORK. The only consolation there would be for this poor experience and uneccesary work is a full refund of the money I spent for work which has made little to no difference!
Description of Work: Energy Savers came out to give me, initially a requested estimate on crawl space insulation, as my crawlspace had none. In the process I was told about a new program in KY called "KY Home Performance" where an energy audit is done, first by Energy Savers, then, after work is done, by the State of KY. Through this program I could also be re-imbursed a portion of the cost of the work. When Energy Savers did the Energy Audit on my home, they seemed to not know what they were doing. Granted I was one of their first homes they did this service on. When the final report was given they said if I had all the insulation in the attic, knee walls and crawlspace done I would save 50.21% on my heating bill and 4.08% on my cooling and they said this work would reduce house air leakage from 3945 CFM50 to 908 CFM50. Long story short: After the State of KY came in and did their energy audit after Energy Savers did the work, it showed very little improvement in house air leakage. I feel that the savings that was proposed to me by Energy Savers did not even come come close, especially on heating. When I reviewed the input of data from Energy Savers, I just noticed that they said I had NO insulation in my attic and knee walls, when I already had insulation in the attic and knee walls. I would think this would have tweaked the numbers unfairly. I purposely waited until now to write a review. I wanted to see the difference in cooling and heating bills. The results are disappointing and I wonder if I was talked into work that was not necessary.

Very well. Brandon, the salesman, is one of the most well-informed insulators we met (after getting bids from I don't know how many different companies). He truly knows his business and how to make homes MUCH more energy efficient. The installation team was quick, clean & professional, and the external audit (which also got us a substantial rebate!) showed evidence of a job well done.
Description of Work: Cadillac of all insulation jobs. We can now tell a MAJOR difference in our home's comfort and energy savings. Well worth every penny, and we're helping the environment, too.

Started project with an energy audit, performed all home insulation (this was older home with no insulation), also installed all new windows (that work was perform by another company). Worked with Brandon at Energy Savers, he was very professional and made many great suggestions to making this old home energy efficient. Also in the process of this project found out that the water heater was improperly vented and could lead to CO2 leakage in the basement. (corrective measures are being taken).

Brandon oversaw the project and gave the estimate. He was very professional and gave a thorough explanation of what was needed, how it would benefit us, and informed us of rebates that could be applied to the cost of the project. The workers were very courteous, professional, and neat. We could tell the difference right away with having new insulation in the summer -- our upstairs temperature was much better moderated! I am very glad that we had this work done. The 20% rebate from Kentucky Home Performance made it that much more palatable. Before we could get the rebate, the work had to be inspected and approved by a third party. This person informed Energy Savers of necessary modifications; Brandon returned to our home to complete them. This oversight gave me peace of mind, since we've been taken advantage of by other contractors in the past.

Chris and his team of installers we very respectful to me and my home. They did an excellent job and answered any questions I had. When they were finished they asked me to look at the attic and everything looked great. The job took about 8 hrs. and the crew never stopped. Very happy with Energy Savers process and work ethic. I cannot say enough good things about this company! I We have already recommended them to 4 friends who mentioned they were considering insulation installation. I'm sure our friends will be pleased with the quality and value they receive from this company. The sales person is helpful, not pushy, very polite, and extremely knowledgeable. He represent his company very well. The three-person crew who did the work for us were on time, hard-working, polite, and easy to have around. They cleaned up well after the very messy process of removing old and extremely dusty cellulose insulation that had been in the attic. And they are extremely honest. We had originally contracted to have fiberglass insulation blown into the exterior brick walls, but when the crew started that process, they discovered that the walls were already insulated with cellulose, done long before we owned this house. They stopped work on the outside and explained what they had found. They could have charged us for the exterior insulation, I suppose, since I wasn't supervising their work at that point, but they didn't. And there was no charge to us for the exploratory work on the exterior walls. We hit the record high temperatures the day after the insulation was installed and even with the crazy-hot temperatures outside we could tell a very significant difference in interior comfort. For the first time since we moved into our old St. Matthews' Cape Cod, there was not a discernable difference between the temperature in the closets and in the rooms upstairs. It's too soon to report on the energy cost difference, but I expect that it will be significant based on the improved comfort of our house.
Description of Work: We are very pleased with the work that Energy Savers did for us. The work began with an energy audit that was carefully and thoroughly done and identified problem areas to be addressed. Follow up to come will repeat that process and check for "quality assurance." The crew removed all the improperly installed insulation from the attic, including ancient cellulose insulation that had been blown in, and replaced it with new insulation, both bats and blown in fiberglass. They opened up access to the knee walls and slopes under the roof from two closets and installed fiberglass bats and blew in insulation; They caulked every conceivable crack in the attic and the knee spaces before the insulation was installed. They installed access doors in the closets and attic and weather-stripped and insulated them. They caulked around window frames in the interior of hte house (exterior storm windows were already adequately caulked.) They sealed all the mechanical penetrations around the band joist in the basement. (We already had insulation in that area, but hadn't sealed everything.)

The job was scheduled and the installers arrived as expected. Both men exceeded my expectations. They were courteous and certainly attention-to-detail oriented. After the work was completed they cleaned up and invited me to walk through in order to see what tasks were performed, and asked if I had any question. Overall, Brandon (the estimator) and Chris and Jr (the installers) went far above and beyond any expectation I had about having this type of work done in my home.
Description of Work: The estimator was very courteous, his professionalism and knowledge of air sealing, insulation, and ways to curtail energy consumption was very impressive. (I did research on my own as to what he stated as cause and suggested as solutions. His insight was exactly on point.) After comparing his estimate with two others, I noted that his was much more comprehensive; I felt that I understood exactly what tasks would be performed.

The estimator arrived promptly at 7:30 am to give a quote on adding insulation to the attic. An investigation of the attic revealed several gaps that needed to be sealed and that additional insulation was required. The estimator agreed to reduce the quote by 10% and the service was scheduled for approximately one week later. I specifically asked to be the first job of the day and the technicians were scheduled to arrive around 8:30 - 9:00am. No one arrived on the day of service so I called around 9:30 and was informed that the technicians must have gone to another work site first. I can understand the miscommunication between the technicians and the schedulers - it happens - but I think a courtesy phone call should have occurred instead of having to call to find out what happened. The service was rescheduled for two days later again at 8:30am. I confirmed the night before that someone would arrive at 8:30 the next morning. The technicians arrived but not until 9:00. Once they arrived they were very courteous and worked quickly. The entire job was completed in two hours to my satisfaction. From my experience: PROS: 1. Price - very competitive price that was lowered by request 2. Courteous - estimator and technicians were friendly 3. Workmanship - very pleased with the end result CONS: 1. Communication - not notified of change in schedule or delay in arriving 2. Punctuality - inconsistent with the stated arrival time Overall I was pleased with the service. Just a few mishaps regarding timing. I would recommend and would use again.

It was discussed that the crawlspace could be done without me being home and that the tentative date for the attic would be 10 Nov. Linda called me early on 3 Nov to inform me that her crew would be at my home on that day to do the crawlspace and if it were possible, to do the attic the next day. They arrived, prepped, installed, clean up, all in about 3 hours. The next day, the crew arrived to do the attic. I'd say that it took a little less than two hours for them to complete the job, from the prep to the final step of making the cover for the attic access. I was very pleased with the entire process from start to finish. Linda is a very personable young lady and the crew members were very polite.
Description of Work: I was looking for quotes to add insulation to the attic of my home. Linda came out on the day scheduled. She measured the space and then looked at the crawl space (which had no insulation). While she was preparing the quote, she was informing me that she was keeping the quotes for each area separate. I was amazed to see that the quotes, when combined, was what I had been expecting to see just for the attic. The job consisted of blown in (9 inches)(R30) in the attic and to make a cover for the attic entrance, and for the crawlspace, 9.5" thick batts (R30) with support rods and 6 mil black plastic sheeting to cover the dirt floor to assist in supressing the moisture.

The vendor exceeded expectations. I was working in the attic on a minor electrical item that needed finishing before the install. The vendor came in, performed their prep work, communicated each step along the way, asked questions where appropriate, and had me review their work after a milestone task. I was with the vendor most of the time and able to watch the way that did their work and see how easily/carefully they moved around the joists. The vendor brought in all their tools and power, so I just had to stay out of the way.
Description of Work: The vendor built an insulation box around the house fan, attached attic vents/baffles for airflow from soffit's, blew in R-30 level of insulation, and cleared out the soffit area after the insulation install.

They did a fine job. The workers called and came a couple days earlier to get the work done. They were able to go through my garage and do the work without tracking through my house. I called other companies but I went with them because I learned that this company uses Corning blown insulation instead of newspaper like the other companies claim they used. The workers came on time and finished in the time they stated. We are happy with the work that was completed and would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: This company did insulation for entire attic of our home.
