Appliance Doctor is a family owned business that has been in Wichita since 1988.

"I used this company a couple of times when our heating or a/c went out as they were who the original owners had used. They replaced an a/c unit for us when the old one died, but I later found out when it needed a major repair that a) the unit was not under warranty as the installer hadn't sent in the paperwork for it, but that it had been installed incorrectly, was not up to code, and the coolant had not been added properly, causing us to need an expensive repair only a couple of years later that should have been covered by a warranty, but that we had to pay for out of pocket. Also, when our furnace broke, I was informed that the problem was very serious and potentially deadly and would cost $2000 to fix. Something about the exchange just gave me a bad feeling, so I called for a second opinion. It turned out that the issue he had "found" was fine, and that the real problem was a loose screw that was allowing air into the unit. In two minutes a new screw was screwed in and our problem was fixed for $80. We also discovered that previous work that had been done was again no to code/not done properly and had to be fixed. I would not call this person again. We have had far more success with other businesses, and I feel confident that they are doing the job right."

Furniture On Consignment has been Wichita's favorite furniture store for more than 20 Years - Featuring name brand NEW Furniture, Mattresses, Appliances and Electronics! In 1989 the store was started in a 10,000 sq ft showroom on Second and Cleveland. The business offered customers in the Wichita area an alternative hassle free way to sell their gently used furniture items. During our first year in business we also introduced new furniture closeout pieces direct from manufacturers. In 1990 the store was growing at such a pace that it was necessary to relocate to a larger facility. The new location was three times the size of the first location at 30,000 sq ft. located just west of Oliver on 13th Street. We are still here today! Our consignment department receives over 100 different items per week! You literally have to shop daily to be the first to see the new arrivals. Although consignment furniture is still a very viable part of our business, with over a 100 different items each week. "Samsung directed my warranty repair to Herb Snow & Son. I found the technicians to be quite professional, even though the repair did not work. I cannot speak to the prices because this was a warranty repair. However, I will never do business with this company again and would encourage anyone who reads this to avoid. After the repair failed well within HS's 90-day warranty, I called them to schedule a second visit. Less than 24 hours before the appointment, HS informed me that Samsung had not authorized the return visit - even though this was within HS's 90-day warranty for the prior visit, so I had to cancel the appointment and go back to Samsung. Samsung then provided a second authorization and the repair was scheduled for a week later. During the next few days, the refrigerator issue got a lot worse. Ice accumulates on the evaporator coils, causing the fan to rub against the ice, creating a loud buzz. The buzz is annoying, but it also runs the risk of burning out the fan motor. I've manually defrosted this refrigerator several times myself, but I was worried about temporarily fixing the issue just before my next appointment. Fix the issue and not have a problem to show the tech, or let the issue continue and allow it to do worse damage.... So I called HS. "Kelsey," the woman who answers the phones and purportedly owns the business along with her sister is an amazing combination of disinterested, flippant, rude, arrogant, and condescending. This has always been the case, but in this instance it was particularly aggravating when I presented my dilemma and was simply told, in the most flippant way possible, "look, I can't tell you what to do." When I asked to speak to her manager I was told "my name's on the building." I politely explained to her that she ought to treat her customers with more respect. I never cursed, never raised my voice, just explained to her that this was no way to run a business. Just a few minutes later, I received a voicemail from "Kevin" telling me they were CANCELLING the service appointment and that I would need to talk to him to reschedule - despite the fact that Samsung already directed them to perform the repair. What a classy organization. AVOID."

Appliance sales FAQs

If you’re debating whether it’s worth repairing a damaged appliance, consider a few factors, including the appliance’s age and the cost to replace it. Large, high-value appliances are worth repairing, especially when the fixes are minor and the appliance is only a few years old. However, if the cost of repairs is more than half the price of a new item, then it may be worth replacing it. For example, if your refrigerator repair costs continue increasing and add up to more than 50% of the cost to replace it, you’re better off buying a new one.

Typically, most appliances last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, depending on the appliance, brand, and amount of use. Keeping a regular maintenance schedule, including cleaning and tune-ups, also helps appliances last longer. Dryers, gas stoves, and refrigerators tend to last the longest, averaging about 13 to 15 years. Microwaves and dishwashers tend to last about 10 years on average.

There are a few scenarios when replacing all kitchen appliances simultaneously makes sense, including major renovations, moving into a new home, or purchasing as a set. If you want to refresh your kitchen upon move-in day or start over during a renovation, consider purchasing and replacing your kitchen appliances at once to save on labor costs. Also, if your appliances are all original to the home or are older and require increasing amounts of maintenance and repair, replacing them all at the same time may be a good option.

In most cases, appliance warranties do not transfer to new owners. However, some exceptions apply. To check the status of your appliance warranty and whether you can transfer it when you move, review the terms and conditions of your warranties or consult your home warranty service. When purchasing a new appliance or one from a previous owner, be sure to pay attention to its warranty status, including the type of coverage and any exclusions.

The cost of home appliances ranges from $350 to $8,000 or more, depending on the brand, type of appliance, and features. Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical. Keep in mind that major appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and water heaters, will cost more than minor appliances, such as microwaves, due to the size, complexity, and essential nature of the item.
