"Two years ago, I met with BBB Randy to add a bathroom on our second floor. Now, two years later, after having done such a good job on our bathroom, we have finished our basement with BBB, adding a bedroom, bathroom, bar, and theater. Our home was recently constructed by Toll Brothers. Making renovations to and matching the high quality to that of Toll brothers' can be challenging at times. We were so fortunate to work with BBB and their construction quality. They make sure their customer receives exactly what they ask for and more. We have worked with Randy throughout the entire process from start to finish. He is very professional and always available to address your needs. They have good contractors and maintain the delivery schedule. Throughout the construction process, I never had to worry about anything. We love our basement, and are always receiving compliments on it! We are very thankful towards the entire BBB construction team for working on our project."

"The visit to my home in West Hartford was a nice affair. The technician explained everything. He even mentioned that I had to get a plumber to remove the sink away from the wall, so the work could be done to repair the window and wall area, but I did not hear him mention that I had to pull permits. The problem with this permit pulling issue is that I never initiated the pulling of permits, and this also is a red flag for me. The pulling of a permit should always be done by the contractor who is doing the job. It ensures that the permit pulled is to code. It ensures that the permit pulled follows local ordinance and CT. laws and statutes regarding construction, and that also includes consumer protection mandates in the State of Connecticut. Having me pull the permit to allow the CT. Basement Systems to do the work is a big, red flag, and it can result in my home owner's policy being cancelled if the permits are pulled either after the fact, or the permits pulled do not line up with the inspection process. I can also be fined by the town for pulling permits after the fact too. I've had my furnace replaced. The plumbing company who replaced the furnace followed state law and guidelines. Especially, since funding provided through a loan from a Credit Union chosen by the State of Connecticut ensured that permits were pulled correctly, legally. The same applies to my roof being replaced. The roofing company pulled the permit. Having a customer whom you are charging in excess of $20,000 to pull a permit is putting that customer in legal jeopardy, which is unacceptable. If I sell my house, and I had the work done in my basement, and the permits were pulled by me. The person who bought my house could sue me for an incorrectly pulled permit. How would I answer questions from the town about the technical aspects of the job, which should be handled by the contractor directly? Why introduce another layer of bureaucracy that slows down communication? Have the contractor pull the permit, so that the contractor and the municipality, town or city can communicate directly, and the pulling of the permit is done correctly and legally. How would I know, when the town should be doing an inspection during or while the job is being completed or after the job is completed? This should never be a requirement of the customer to pull the permit for a job to be done. The tech who visited my home mentioned that I had to hire a plumber to move a basement sink, but they did not mention about pulling of permits, but I went and re-read the quote again, and it is at the bottom of the quote page under "Customer Will" that states not only hiring of the plumber but also pulling permits and scheduling inspections. I did not have this job financed by CT. Basement Systems. I, instead, decided to get a home equity loan. If I did not get the home equity loan, then decided to go with CT. Basement Systems financing, then I would be screwed. The best thing I did was slow the process down, seek my own financing, and ask larger, bigger, deeper questions that prevented me from making a mistake by allowing this work to be done."

Founded in 2011, AdvantaClean and its affiliates have established themselves as premier providers of essential services related to indoor air quality in the residential and commercial markets. Our trained supervisors and technicians provide air quality, restoration, and mitigation services 24/7. Emergency water damage, fire damage, mold remediation, moisture control solutions, air duct cleaning, restoration, and remodeling. We are locally owned and operated, insured, bonded, certified, and experienced in emergency and restoration projects of all sizes.
"My experience with AdvantaClean of Greater Hartford and its owner, Peter Sheldon, was quite unsatisfactory. I had called their appointment setting service to arrange for a mold inspection of a ranch style home I was looking to purchase after observing wetness and what appeared to be mold on the bedroom ceiling during a walk-through. I was quoted $100 for a visual inspection, no air sampling. I clearly explained the situation and my desire for the attic space to be inspected. Mr. Sheldon arrived approximately 15 minutes late without calling, no big deal. He did not have any means to gain access to the attic - no ladder. I brought a ladder as a back-up, so brought it inside. A visual review of the bedroom was informative as Mr. Sheldon demonstrated knowledge of his business. I then set up the ladder for him to gain access to the attic. This is where things started to go South. Mr. Sheldon barely moved the access cut-out cover and then refused to go any further. He could see from the bottom lip where the access cover rests that the attic insulation was not fiberglass and immediately stated the insulation possibly contained asbestos, or ACM as he said - Absestos Containing Material - likely vermiculite. He then talked extensively about his sensitivity to asbestos and the need for having his blood checked annually. At that point, I put on my respirator, pushed the attic cover out of the way and looked in the attic any signs of mold. Mr. Sheldon did not arrive with a respirator, or even a simple dust mask. Odd considering his stated sensitivities and my specific request to enter the attic. As I was putting the access cover back in place, a small piece of insulation fell to the floor which sent Mr. Sheldon double-timing it down the hallway. After leaving the home, I was opposed to paying Mr. Sheldon the full $100 as he was not willing to even poke his head in the attic. He never got a good look at the attic insulation, never-mind actually inspecting the attic for mold. He felt otherwise, explaining he considered the insulation to be PACM, or Presumed Asbestos Containing Material, and that it should not be disturbed. He even suggested that me poking my head in the attic, though never touching or stepping on the insulation, may have been unethical and could have caused the homeowner a problem. When I stated it seemed clear Mr. Sheldon had health concerns/issues as the reason for his unwillingness to fully perform the services for which he was hired, he about lost it. He got extremely agitated and accused me of lying in front of the real estate agent in attendance and trying to damage his business. I tried walking away to calm the situation but he kept coming forward while making further accusations and attempting to justify his actions. When I tried to speak, he'd talk over me. At one point, I must have said, "Can I speak now?", 5 or 6 times, but he would not stop. Then when I got 3 words out, he'd talk over me again. No composure, could not control himself. Quite a scene in the middle of the street. He clearly felt I should respect his approach and decision not to enter since he's the licensed inspector, that I should be deferential. He even stated that the problem was I was "immature". My feeling was a professional would have come prepared to enter the attic, including a ladder and a quality respirator, especially given Mr. Sheldon's stated sensitivity to asbestos. I went back the following day to gather a sample of the insulation to bring to a laboratory for testing. The lab confirmed the material was cellulose, completely non-hazardous. I'm sure if Mr. Sheldon had gotten a full view of the material, he would have recognized it to be blown-in cellulose. A week later, I hired another inspector who entered the attic and quickly found the cause of the mold problem - leaking water lines coming off the air handler, soaking the sheetrock, etc. Perhaps AdvantaClean of Greater Hartford is professional in other scenarios, but if you need a company to enter the attic, you may be better off elsewhere."

Family owned and operated business. Mike or a member of his team will be performing the work at your house. He will bring in experts for the specialty portions of the project.
"I have worked with Mike Barry at High Street Designs on two projects. The first was a smaller, one room renovation, and the second was a larger renovation involving a kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. For both projects, I couldn’t be happier with the results and working with Mike. From the initial estimate and until the final walkthrough, Mike is on-time, transparent, communicative, and consultative. His entire team are professionals, which makes the process less stressful. If surprises come up during the renovation, Mike clearly outlines the options and pros/cons of each. This made me feel very much in control of the project. A few weeks after the completion of the second renovation, we had a minor issue that needed to be fixed. Mike’s subcontractor came out the very next day to fix it. This is a testament to the quality of Mike and his team on ensuring the job is complete. I would highly recommend Mike and High Street Designs for any renovation that you are looking to do."

"Chris Manganello is a gem. His level of skill and professionalism surpassed our utmost expectations. He was very easy to work with. He listened to what we wanted, respectfully offered suggestions, and ultimately did what made us happy. I'm so grateful we listened to some of his suggestions as he foresaw that we'd regret not knocking certain walls down. He is meticulous in every aspect of his trade. He cleaned up his "mess" EVERY day including sweeping the floors, putting all his tools in an organized pile, taking out the trash, shutting off lights, and locking the door. He treated this job as if he were doing it in his own home. If something was the slightest bit misaligned (we couldn't tell), he'd take it down and redo it because he knew he could do better. He never had that "it's good enough" attitude. He was excellent in communication as well, which is a characteristic most contractors do not have. We have developed such a rapport with him over the few months it took to finish the basement, that it felt like he was a member of our family. We were sad to see him leave, but we have been enjoying our new finished space immensely which includes a TV/media area, guest room, laundry room, full bathroom, work out area, office, lots of closets, and an unfinished storage area."

"This company is fabulous. Renald and his workers gave a great estimate, and did the job flawlessly designing and executing the building of my exquisite patio. He met us at the supply house to help us pick out materials, he took a personal interest. Beside our beautiful patio, I had him redo our fireplace which looks like a work of art! And since the chimney needed some attention, they fixed some problems with the chimney. All work was beautifully done. I recommended this company to friends of mine, and they hired Renald and his crew and got back to me as to how terrific they found his work and the ease it was to work with them. This is how things should be....attention to detail, quality craftsmanship! I'm happy I could submit this review!"

Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The cost to finish a basement is $18,400 for the average homeowner. However, this cost could be as little as $2,800 or as much as $34,500, depending on the basement size and the materials needed. If your basement is already outfitted with electrical and plumbing, expect the cost to fall on the lower end.
For example, the drywall cost for this project averages around $1,750, but other features, like hiring a plumber, cost between $45 and $200 per hour.
The cost to remodel a basement is between $12,100 and $33,400 for the average homeowner. The price you pay can be as little as $3,500 or as much as $50,200, depending on the size and condition of your basement and the type of remodel you're doing.
If you're doing a simple project like adding a home office to your basement, you can expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $3,000. However, if you're adding a bathroom, which is an extensive project, you can expect to pay between $6,600 to $16,500.
If you find evidence of water damage in your home, your best option is to call a local water damage restoration company immediately. You could call a plumber first if you know that the issue is stemming from a plumbing pipe, but in many cases, a company that specifically handles water damage will be able to find the source of the damage and recommend a specific repair. Water damage restoration pros will also be able to develop a plan to remove any damaged material and restore your home to its previous condition.
The average water damage restoration cost is around $3,500, but it’s not uncommon to see prices fall between $450 and $15,000. Your project cost will depend on the extent of the damage, the source of the water, whether or not mold has grown in the affected area from the moisture, and the emergency level of your water problem. Keep in mind that your insurance company may cover some or all of your restoration expenses if your homeowner’s insurance policy covers the specific issue.
