GENERAL CONTRACTOR SPECIALIZING IN ACCESSIBILTY DESIGN AND REMODELING FOR SENIORS AND SPECIAL NEEDS PEOPLE
"Accessible homes inc owner Gary Sloane & Rena Sloane / Vargas are joint Business owners who have a record of taking advantage of elderly men and women. Within The past year accessible homes, Inc., which was located in Anchorage was recently closed down after Gary Sloan was issued a stocking protective order on one of the elderly individuals Home that he previously did work for. There was a STOP work order after Accessible Homes inc did NOT follow municipality rules and obtain proper permits before working on the property. Please refer to Alaska court Records verification. They have had multiple business names and have set up an irrevocable Trust through Gordon Sloane in order to insure that when they are sued the plaintiffs will receive nothing because there business is in a irrevocable trust where there is little to NO assets or money to ensure the continual scamming that they have done for many years taking advantage of mostly elderly people. Be very cautious when dealing with Gary Sloane and Rena Vargas as they are sure to open up a different business using a different name as they have done so. Please refer to Alaska court records"

Alas-Co General Construction Co, Inc. is an Alaskan owned and operated company founded in 1985. Based out of Anchorage, Alas-Co maintains a reputation of excellence with a team of skilled, dedicated craftsmen coupled with the latest construction technology. While consulting and specializing in a broad variety of insulation, Alas-Co also offers a variety of contracting and maintenance services .
"In esssence, I sat on the wait list for 6 months to have some insulation work done. The property was inspected in May, twice. Once by Brandon, and once with Brandon and a supervisor to see what needed to be done. I know as well as anyone that we needed to do some demo work to gain access because we were taking pictures through a transfer grill (a balancing vent above a door). After 3 additional months, multiple e mails and phone calls, I finaly got a response from the receptionist today. She was passing along a message that the area is too small and we need to cut access in the sheetrock ... And, you need to hire a general contractor, this is beyond the scope of Alas-Co. Clearly reading other reviews, Alas-Co is involved in repairs and work where this would clearly be within "scope" of the company. So here we are, coming up on 10 months after my initial call, re-starting the entire process because they can't be bothered to communicate that they don't want the work. Hopefully this review helps others not pick this company."

While it’s possible to install a skylight yourself, we don’t recommend it. DIY window installations are far more likely to leak due to improper placement technique. Making even minor mistakes could lead to thousands of dollars in water damage, meaning hiring a local skylight installer from the start would be more affordable. Plus, working on the roof is dangerous, as is maneuvering heavy, bulky windows up and into place. Even if you’re an experienced DIYer, we strongly recommend hiring a pro to install a skylight.
In most cases, installing skylights will add to the value of your home, as buyers tend to like the appearance of these windows and prefer houses that let in natural light. However, savvy home buyers who know there are water damage risks with improperly installed skylights will want information on who installed the feature and when. If you can point to a professional skylight installer with experience, then the skylight is more likely to provide a better return on investment.
Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:
Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?
Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?
What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?
Do you have references I can speak with?
How long have you been in business?
Are you licensed and insured?
The average cost to install a skylight is about $1,850, and most homeowners pay between $450 to $5,000 each. Your total price tag will depend on many factors, including the type of roof material, the pitch of your roof, ease of accessibility, the skylight size, and the type of frame and glass you want. You can potentially lower your price if you install multiple windows or skylights simultaneously. Remember to budget $500 to $2,500 for labor costs to complete this project.
Skylights might sometimes increase your homeowners insurance premium, but the increase is usually minimal. Some home insurance companies won’t adjust your premium with the addition of a skylight, so you can contact your insurer or your professional skylight installer to ask about any expected changes. It’s crucial to have an expert install the skylight, as insurance companies may not insure your roof or cover water damage that results from a non-professional skylight installation.
