Billy was fantastic! He inspected our heat pump, found the coolant level to be 0 and said there had to be a leak in the system. He found the leak, repaired it, replaced the 12 lbs of coolant, and checked to make sure everything was working and sufficiently cooling before he left. We were impressed with his professionalism, his knowledge and willingness to explain the problem to us, and his easygoing nature despite working late on a very hot Saturday afternoon. There was no attempt to simply apply a bandaid and return the next week. He believes in finding the problem and fixing it then. We definitely will use him again for any HVAC issue we might have in the future.

After a late arrival due to a more involved previous call, he checked the unit for water leaks. he removed the clog from the water line. Then checked out the whole system for any other problems, did the maintenance check and reset the thermostat.

We could not have been more pleased with Blue Ridge's service. Billy came out and gave estimate which we thought very reasonable and we didn't bother getting anyone else in for a comparative estimate. It took more time to get the work done than Billy originally thought but he and/or his crew were here on the days and at the time they said they would be here or called if they could not make it as planned. From the time of the estimate to job completion was fast - less than 10 days I think! He and the staff were always polite and friendly. He took as much time as we needed to discuss and consult on the duct system so that we all understood and agreed on the work to be done. All works well and looks good. Highly recommend!

On 1/2/2013, I had a service call with another company. They wanted to charge $845.50 to repair my broken heat pump. This seemed very high so I decided to get a second quote. I called Blue Ridge Heating and AC at around 2:00pm. They said they'd try to get someone out that afternoon. Unfortunately, another job ran long and they weren't able to make it that afternoon. The person I spoke with on the phone asked about the problem (heat pump freezing over), asked for the model number, and asked what the other company thought the problem was. I answered all his questions and he agreed that the defrost control board and sensor were likely bad. He said he'd order the parts and come by first thing the next morning. He provided a quote of approximately $250. The following morning, the technicians arrived on time. They thoroughly inspected the system, verified the diagnosis, and performed the repair. The entire process took about an hour. Blue Ridge Heating and AC did an all around excellent job. Their professionalism, expertise, and competitive prices were all the more appreciated given the shady sales tactics, disappointing responsiveness, and high price of the other company I contacted. I definitely plan to use Blue Ridge Heating and AC for future HVAC service.

I called over the weekend and the gentleman at the office scheduled my service call for Monday at 11:30 am. On Monday the technician called to inform me that he was running a little behind schedule by about 10 minutes. He arrived at 11:45, apologized for being late and inquired about the issue. He smiled and said "sounds like the capacitor". He turned off the power to the unit, took off the side and as predicted it was the capacitor. He quickly replaced it, fired it up, and I have an a/c unit that should last for a few more years with routine servicing from Blue Ridge heating.

problem was the condenser motor
Description of Work: Shane came out to diagnose our A/C (forced air) unit which was freezing up at both inside and outside units. He thought the problem was the condenser fan motor, left the house to purchase the part locally and was back to finish the repair within 45 minutes. We had monumental problems with another company, and ended up believing the whole unit needed to be replaced. It's been almost a month, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that the problem is fixed which saved us from spending around $7000 to $8000! We will absolutely continue to use this company in the future for our heating and A/C needs!

August 30th our AC stopped working. Since we just purchased our home in April 2011 we still had a warranty so we called the warranty company. The warranty company sent out Griffith Energy Services. They came out and told us the coil was leaking and the warranty wouldn't cover the repair. Frustrated with GES response time and eagerness to help us we called for second opinions. Based on the recommendation of others on Angie's List I called Blue Ridge Heating and AC on 9/4 and Billy said he could come look and give us a second opinion. He said he'd be at our house between 1:30-2...he arrived at 1:50. Took his shoes off at the door and took the time to look everything over and explain everything. Turns out the original diagnosis was correct. Billy provided a quote on the spot. After thinking about our options we decided it was best just to replace the entire system. Gave Billy the deposit 9/18 and scheduled work to start 9/21 at 9am. Recieved a call 9/20 saying Billy couldn't arrive until 11:30-12:00. On 9/21 Billy arrived at 11:45 and started working immediately. Very courteous and professional the entire time. He said it would take 6 hours to complete the job...it took exactly 6 hours. The work was done professionally and everything was left the way they found it. Highly recommend Blue Ridge Heating and AC! We have never dealt with a company that was so professional and courteous. We will definitely call them in the spring to service our new unit or any other HVAC needs we may have in the future.

While I do not fault the technician Shane who did do a great job when they did make it out. I've called these people three times and they don't seem to write the appointment down and forget about you. The first time back in July he apologized and finally set something up, Ok it can happen, the second I seem to remember going through this again, and so the third time, I will not use them anymore. The third time I called I don't know the tech who took the call but I believe it was the same person each time (not Shane) said would see about the schedule of the tech and call back to set something up and guess what he never called back. Will find someone else. 7/ 2012, Mini Split ductless A/C developed a leak. We stopped using our usual A/C company because of personal reasons so I was looking for a new company and we needed someone fast. Got this company from Angie's List and so decided to try them. It was kind of last minute but the technician was willing to come out and take a look at the end of his shift which I greatly appreciated since it was kind of an emergency. Very professional and courteous.
Description of Work: Dec 2012 ? Called to setup up an appointment just to come out and see about a possible thermostat problem with the outside Mini Split ductless system which had been freezing over with ice. 7/ 2012, (First Time) Technician was not familiar with the unit I had but did a pretty good job of working it. I might have already fixed the system myself by hooking up a vacuum to the drain line before the tech arrived but the tech stuck around to make sure the unit was working properly. He blew out the drain line with compressed air and stuck around to ensure system didn't leak.

Despite that fact that Shane arrived quite late (due to a delay at a previous appointment) I would absolutely use this company again due to his knowledge, willingness to provide tips, and friendly nature.
Description of Work: I had a majorly wet basement carpet due to water leaking from my AC unit. Shane came out and diagnosed the problem in no time and did some preventitive maintenence to keep the unit going strong. My only issue was that due to a hang up at a previous appointment, my service began over an hour later than my scheduled appointment.

It went very well. Billy came out the same day and got my AC up and working. He was courteous and professional. He explained the situation clearly and did not try to charge me for a problem that did not exist. He got my unit up and running that day and came back the next day with a part that I needed. He did not charge me till the job was completed on the 2nd day. I would use this company again in the future.

When I selected these guys, they only had one rating, so I was a liitle nervous. I was also nervous because I had another company out to look at the unit and they treated me very badly. Anyway I took a chance because out of four quote for a new heat pump, they offered the best product for the money. Billy and his guys were great. They restored my faith that there are still honest, hard-working people in the world.
Description of Work: I had a nine year old, 2.0 ton, heat pump that stopped cooling. I decided to replace the system with a better quality and higher efficiency unit. I had Blue RIdge replace the Compressor and Fan Coil. I selected the Carrier 15 SEER system with a variable speed fan coil.

Billy and his assistant were very professional and friendly. They took their shoes before entering the house and were respectful of everything inside. He clearly explained the problem and what he was doing to correct it. I was very impressed with their professionalism and courtesy. A great experience - you should hire them if you're having trouble.
Description of Work: One of the hottest days of the year, and of course our AC stopped working. I called Blue Ridge Heating and AC and they were at our house within 30 min (they had just been finishing up a job when I called luckily). I told Billy and his assistant that our AC had stopped cooling, but the fan was still running. They checked the outside unit and quickly determined that it was a bad capacitor, had it running again within 15-20 min.I was concerned that it might be a reoccurrence of a bad switch that we had in Jan on the attic unit. Billy checked it as well and waited to make sure the AC was cooling properly before leaving. So far so good.

A thunderstorm moved through on Friday evening - Saturday morning we discovered our central AC was not working. I called Blue Ridge Heating and A/C and scheduled an appointment. The earliest they had was for Tuesday, so I booked it. On Sunday, I discovered that the cooling fan on top of the outside unit was not running, even though the compressor was running I called back and told them so, in case they needed to bring a new fan on Tuesday. The young gentleman told me it might be a blown capacitor and if so, he could fix it quickly. He asked if I would be home andI said yes. He showed up on a Sunday afternoon and resolved the problem quickly and professionaly. He COULD have sold me a whole new AC - I would not have known . . .or told me the fan motor was bad. Instead, he was honest and fixed me up on a Sunday . . . Blue Ridge Heating and A/C has all my heating and A/C business from now on. This morning I gave their name and number to a neighbor, along with a recommendation they use these folks.

Told this to reception and then to owner who called back. Said it was likely the starting capacitor and would send someone out. About six hours later everything was working. The problem was just as expected. Everything is good. Would use again.

They came out the same day that I called them. I had the same part replaced three years ago and the other company charged me over $200. I saved some money and they were here the same day. Another nice thing is that the gentleman that answers the phone is the owner of the business. I do plan to use him again if I have other ac issues.

We had an heat pump that has not worked since last aug. The tech that came out listened to my concerns and then allowed me to ask questions as we walked around and troubleshot the system. Turned out to be a circuit board issue, the tech bypassed it after asking to get me back up and running. Also I needed more coolant which he put back into the system. There may be a leak but he identified several connections that may be the issue. He tighted them and cleaned the areas to identify which one is leaking on his return. He is going to do the warranty claim for me and come back next week to put it all back to factory spec. I was very impressed with his personality and his patience with my questions as he explained what why he was doing his work. Ill update this once the work is 100% done. MSP

Mr. Rinker did a fantastic job overall. I was very pleased. I could tell that he was very careful with the work that he performed. His crew is top notch and installed all items to specifications. The price was excellent. Mr. Rinker kept me informed of all phases of the installation. There are so many terrible experiences that I have had with contractors. This is a company that you want to do business with!

Called Blue Ridge Heating and A/C about 8 in the morning and talked to William. He told me he could be out here in the afternoon. He called ahead of time to update me of what time he would be getting here. He was very friendly and was able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem since he had the parts he needed with him. Very good service and resonable price. Will definitly use him again if anything goes wrong.
