+ -1 moreI think that they made the best they could of a tough to diagnose situation...I just wish they would have checked out the yard hydrant more carefully first to avoid all the destruction of my yard.
Description of Work: Water meter was spinning fast-water company said leak most likely. I called Thompson and sons, and they came the same day. The worker was very nice, but did not really evaluate one source of the possible leak. They came back the next day and dug up the yard, found no leak, then re-evaluated the yard hydrant we originally were concerned about and discovered the leak. They shut off the hydrant and that fixed the leak with very little effort. I then received a bill for $600. I was very upset and called Mr. Thompson to discuss it--he was very reasonable, offered to half the bill, and I offered to pay $400 (a compromise). Retrospectively I should have only paid them $300, but he did agree to reattach my hydrant when warm weather comes.

Description of Work: needed emergency service on a Sunday for probable water leak. a service man arrived that day; we found the leak and they also discovered two other small leaks; one fixed on that day and the other was repaired on the following Friday. I have not yet received a bill but I was told the total would be about $230.

+ -1 moreIt went very well. I had called him on the previous day, and he said he would be at our house at about 11:00 a.m. When 11:00 a.m. the next day arrived he was not there. We thought that we were going to get the old delay trick that some contractors use when they don't schedule their jobs and the time to do the work correctly, but five minutes after 11:00 a.m. he telephoned and said that he was running late and would be there at 11:30 a.m. He asked if that was alright with us and we agreed. Sure enough, right at 11:30 a.m. he pulled up in his vehicle in front of the house, and came to the house, and introduced who he was, and then asked to be taken to the clogged drains. He was very knowledgeable and professional, and we found out that since we are senior citizens that the company would give us a 10% discount on all work and parts. This was a pleasant surprise. When he finished, he explained in detail all that he had done. He cleaned the work area up, and then gave us the detailed invoice. He explained what each of the line items on the invoice were for, and what the total amount was. He stated that if we had any problems to call him and he would come back and correct it, and he gave us his business card. He stated that since we were living in such an old house with the older style sewer lines, that we may have the clogging of the sewer drains frequently. He told us we should try and keep the sewer drain lines as clean as possible to delay or prevent any future clogging of them. He was a very knowledgeable and professional. We would gladly have this company do more work when we need it.
Description of Work: The company sent a plumber who used an electric eel to unclog both my bathtub and my bathroom sink. He used the electric eel to go all the way to the main sewer line to ensure that there were no other clogs elsewhere in the sewer line. While working on the bathroom sink he noticed that the service lines were starting to leak. He suggested that it would be best to fix them now, and to install cutoff valves on each line to make it easier for us to work on the sink lines in the future ourselves. We agreed to it, and he completed that job quickly. The total time of the job was just past one hour, at a rate of $90/hour, and there was a $35 charge to use the electric eel to unclog the drains, and the additional cost for fixing the sink service lines and installing the cutoff valves on the service lines.

I called on Wednesday and discussed the issues (these were not time sensitive problems) and they said they would call back when they had availability. They called on Friday afternoon and were at my house within 20 minutes. The leaking cold water hose was easily fixed and did not need to be replaced. The leaking bathtub drain was identified, removed, and replaced quickly and professionally. Total visit, including going to the store to get the necessary pieces for the bathtub took approx 90 minutes.
Description of Work: Leaking drain in the bathtub was replaced. Leaking cold water hose in the laundry room was repaired.
