Overall, they did pretty well. There is one issue, a broken board, I contacted them about this but haven't heard back yet. I expected more for my money.

On 9-2-2008 I hired Metropolitan Fence to install a 48" fence around my concrete pool deck. The fence was installed in the fall of 2008. Upon opening the pool in the spring of 2009 I noticed several defects some of them being, mismatched hardware, loose screws, unstable fence posts, and holes in the fence that looked as if they were missing hardware. I repeatedly contacted Eric who sold me the fence and claimed to be the owner and asked if he would come out and inspect the fence. He said he would stop out but never did. Upon opening the pool in spring of 2010 I repeatedly called Eric and was told he would stop out. Our home builder was looking at the pool/fence he told me, that the fence did not meet state codes being that it was not 48" tall. I contacted Eric with a sense of urgency and informed him of this information. The fencing material measures 46" not 48" which is what I paid for and expected to get. When Eric did finally come out to inspect the fence he told me that he was not willing to do anything to fix the problems. I being extremly frustrated made a proposition, wanting to advoid legal litigation. I offered to pay for any needed materials to fix the fence properly if Eric would provide the labor. He told me he was not willing to take any loss. I was very shocked by his comment as I was being more than fair. I told him to think about it and to get back to me. He left my home without responding and to date has made no further attempts to resolve this. At this time, I am no longer willing to accept any expense and will settle for nothing less than a fence being 48" tall with all matching and proper hardware. I paid a premium price and was not given what I paid for. I am unable to get a final inspection from the city of Muskego which will soon create serious problems. When signing the contract with Eric he led me to believe he was the owner of the company but, when signing on to make this complaint it lists someone elses name as the owner, making me once again question the reputation of this company. I would not use or recommend them to anyone. At this time, he is leaving me no other choice than to seek legal litigation which I made Eric fully aware that I would do if not given any other choice and he responded by telling me to go ahead and that he wasn't even going to seek legal representaion. He is a very arrogant person and runs a very unproffessional business. In closing, I would like to mention that I had two other reputable companies come out to my home to inspect the fence installed by Metropolitan Fence and they both agreed that it was not properly installed to begin with.

Response from Metropolitan Fence
I am sorry that this customer is dissatisfied. I did meet with him and explained that we could go no higher with the fence due to the height of the concrete pool deck and pillars installed by Tony Lalacata concrete. We believe that the concrete and pillars were installed improperly and had to work with what he installed . All was good with the fence until the customer decided to change the grade of his yard 2 years after we installed the fence. There was no problem with the fence until this time a two years later. Every ornamental fence measures 46" tall and with the 2" under fence is 48" from grade and meets state code. I Do a lot of work for his pool contractor and use the same fence on all jobs and continue to work for him. I was willing to work with this customer and split cost until I was advised that he was getting a lawyer and that I would be sorry. I stated that it met code and I wouldn't need a lawyer to win and that if that is how he wanted to proceed so be it. As you can see with hundreds of customers a year and the other reports on Angies list we are a good honest company. I just will not be bullied by a customer with threats and took a stand. If we had done the wrong thing it would have been addressed at our expense. Customer wanted the fence to follow the concrete and be level on his pillars but pillars were installed wrong with the pitch of concrete. With and uneven pitch it would not have meet code would have been to far off concrete. The option of following the concrete would have made the fence run on an angle and he didn't want that. I can only work with what the concrete contractor does for heights .Thanks Eric

In terms of professionalism, they weren't very good with communication. When we accepted the offer, they were supposed to get back to us within 2-4 weeks. It actually took them five and a half weeks to get back to us and they didn't schedule the install. They told us they would be there tomorrow, so I had less than 24 hours notice to get out of things at work. Cleanup wise, they left stuff all over the yard.

Every once and awhile I see a report that I don't understand And this is one of those. I am looking at a contract signed the 23rd day of april and completed the 21st day of may. Invoiced the 27th of May. Let me start with the scheduling of job. I called the member and said That his material is in and we would like to start right away. He stated that he had a meeting and could't meet so i asked him what time he started work he said he had to leave by 700 A.M. so I asked him If it was ok to walk threw it at 6.00 A.M. he said yes. There is alot of work to be done on a job of that size this was a tuesday worked all day tuesday and wedensday. Had another job to start on thursday did other job thursday and was back at his house trying to finish everything but gates til it was dark approx 8:45 pm left there. The member stated he wanted the dirt picked up which on our contract dirt is customers responsibility. I didn't fight him on it I sent three guys there to hang the gates now that the posts had time to cure and clean up dirt. We also went I step farther and not only picked it up but hauled it away.We work very hard for our customers and do everything in our power to communicate and make customers happy. His order was a special order product and It arrived in yard one day and was being installed the next. In closing the only thing I can think of leaving things all over yard would have been the materials laid out around fence line while installing.

When I called them I was just fortunate that they had purchased some used guardrails from an auto dealer that had gone out of business. They were able to give me a better deal on some used stuff. They were very punctual when they came out and they did an excellent job of installing it. They resolved my problem. Their prices were reasonable and they saved me money by having the used railing. This was the second time that I've used them.
Description of Work: I used Metropolitan Fence to install a guardrail because our vehicles were striking the house. They put in about 40 feet of guardrail along the side of the house with steel post supports.

I had a flat roof with a door and I was missing a rail and the city said that I had 60 days to replace it. They came right out and gave me a reasonable price, so I had them do it. They came out and 1,2,3 it was done. It was an aluminum ornamental rail. It looked really nice and they did a good job.

As promised, post setting was scheduled about a week and a half from when the contract was signed. Two employees worked very hard all day to finish the work and cleaned up well. I had arranged for Metropolitan to remove all dirt. This was simply one less thing for us to deal with. When our post-setting appointment was scheduled, the office manager informed us that the rest of the installation would be completed on Friday, or in the case of poor weather, the following Monday. I called that Wednesday afternoon to confirm we were still on for Friday. The office manager denied that he had ever said “Friday” and that it would surely be Monday. I was glad I called, because I had rearranged meetings and made plans to work from home on Friday and no longer needed to that day. Monday morning came and around 9:00 a.m. we got a call from the office manager that the crew was still working on a job from Friday and would arrive at our place at noon, and may or may not finish the fence in one afternoon. A two-man crew arrived about 12:45 and soon two more joined them. They worked efficiently and completed the fence - rails, pickets and gates - in about three hours. We were thrilled that they were able to complete it so our dog could run free! Throughout the process, the crew did not interact with us much, but we did stop out to review the plans on post setting day and ask them to move some less-than-perfect posts to an unnoticeable area of the back yard, which they happily did. They left before we even knew they were finished, and in their haste left behind a battery pack and missed 2 of 4 nails in one picket. Someone came out the next day to fix it. Later we noticed some crooked nails and a splintered rail which really should have been corrected, but we’ll live with it. Satisfaction guaranteed, but no one really asked! We simply received an invoice in the mail and paid it. Despite some minor issues, we are delighted with our new fence and happy we chose Metropolitan. The end result is everything I had hoped for and more. Communication issues within their office should be addressed. I would recommend them to others who are willing to work with them despite that.
Description of Work: We hired Metropolitan Fence to construct a 4’ cedar picket fence in our backyard. We obtained estimates from several reputable fence companies and ultimately decided on Metropolitan Fence for several reasons. Their price was competitive. They were able to begin the job in a week and a half when some other fence companies were scheduling one month out. The quality of the wood was evident (no knots). We inspected several yards where they had previously built fences (they provided us the addresses) and liked what we saw. They also offer a written warranty.

I was disappointed with the quality of the fence. They don't bring samples and I should've asked to see those before they installed the fence. I had to ask them to turn down their music twice and finally I had to ask them to turn it off. I had to call them back to install plastic locks on the gates of the fence which were extremely expensive and one still doesn't work.

Salesperson seemed unable to measure or calculate square footage. Salesperson was given a copy of city regulations and was verbally updated on limits, yet he proceeded with recommending a fence that was too big. Sales person then tried to get a permit and disclosed info to city hall that would make it more difficult to get the permit- we needed to intervene with city hall. During phone calls, the sales person seemed agitated and unsure of himself. During installation, they left large clumps of dirt and walked over seeded grass (not near fence site) when warned not to.

Brookfield is one of the hardest areas to work . They have lots of rules and are always changing. When we measure we use linear feet not square . When the sales person went to get permit for customer, which I might add is usually the customers responsibility ,but the member wanted to help . There was some confussion and we did deal with the inspector and got the job in with the maximium square footage brookfield would allow.

A WEEK AFTER THEY SAID THEY WOULD START, I WAS ASKED TO BE AT HOME ONE MORNING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THE WORK CREW MIGHT HAVE. NO PROBLEM. WHEN THE CREW ARRIVED, THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE ONLY REPLACING THE SPINDLES ON MY RAILINGS, THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE 2ND FLOOR DECK, AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF WOOD THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO USE. THEY DIDN'T ARRIVE WITH ANY LUMBER, OR A LADDER. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE COMPANY TO EXPRESS MY WORRY AND MIKE GOT A LITTLE AGITATED WITH ME, LIKE I WAS OVER-REACTING. BUT HE TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ''MISCOMMUNICATION'' AND SAID HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. WHEN I GOT HOME THAT DAY, I HAD NICE CEDAR RAILINGS ON MY LOWER DECK AND A PILE OF LUMBER IN MY YARD FOR THE UPPER DECK. IT SAT THERE FOR 5 DAYS BEFORE I CALLED AND LEFT A POLITE MESSAGE ASKING WHEN THEY WOULD COMPLETE THE WORK. I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK, BUT A DAY LATER I CAME HOME TO FIND THE UPPER RAILINGS COMPLETED. THEY LOOK GOOD, BUT I'LL HAVE TO SAND DOWN A LOT OF ROUGH SPOTS ON THE WOOD.

NEIGHBORS PLANTINGS NORTH AND SOUTH WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. WE WERE NOT GIVEN ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE OF THIS, SO WE WERE NOT ABLE TO GET ANY PERMISSION FROM THEM. FORTUNATELY OUR RELATIONS WITH THEM ARE SUPERIOR, SO THERE IS NO LASTING DAMAGE TO OUR RELATIONSHIP. THE DISTURBED DIRT FROM THE INSTALLATION, AND OTHER ITEMS, WAS NOT CLEANED UP SATISFACTORILY. WHEN TOLD OF THIS THEY BLEW ME OFF. THE FINAL INSTALLATION HAS LOOSE CAPS ON THE FENCE WHICH NEED TO BE FASTENED. THEY WERE TOLD OF THIS, BUT DID NOT SUFFICIENTLY CORRECT THE DEFECT. AS OF JUNE 17TH, ALL PROBLEMS INVOLVING THE PHYSICAL PART OF THE INSTALLATION WERE REMEDIED. THAT RELATES SPECIFICALLY TO FASTENING ALL LOOSE CAPS ON THE FENCE.

I GOT A QUOTE THE DAY AFTER I CALLED AND THE FENCE WAS BUILT WITHIN A WEEK. MIKE KATZ IS A NICE GUY TO DEAL WITH AND HE WAS FLEXIBLE ABOUT PAYMENT OPTIONS. THEY PUT UP A GREAT LOOKING, WELL-BUILT FENCE. MY ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THAT THEY DIDN'T CLEAN UP THE PILES OF DIRT FROM THE POST HOLES.
