The air conitioner is 23 years old. Why not just give me a quote for a new air conditioner since most likely there is a leak in the unit? How nice of you to drop the $425 charge if i buy the new unit from your company? I am just tired of HVAC companies setting a trap for customers so that they purchase the unit from them.
Description of Work: We complainted that our upstairs was not being cooled during the summer time. They added a pound of Freon to it for the cost of $273.33 in addition to $129.95 service call charge. The total cost of service call: $425.86.

My name is Phil Lorum; Service Manager here at Stramowski Heating. When this member contacted our office he was made very clear about how we conduct business. He was quoted our standard diagnostic fee for his area numerous times over a period of 17 minutes. I contacted him before my technician headed over to his home. He informed me that we were to go there and deal with his wife because he was too busy to meet us on site. She was very nice and, as always, we informed her that adding refrigerant to a system of that age was something we would not recommend. We also noticed after an evaluation of their system that the a/c unit was slightly undersized. So, we recommend at least completing a leak search and getting a proposal on a new system. She declined both and authorized us to add the refrigerant against our recommendations. Later, he contacted me and was extremely dissatisfied and insisted on me modifying our refrigerant price for him based on what he saw on the internet. I informed him that we charge by the repair and NOT by time & material. Before I could make him a compromise he became derogatory, slightly belligerent and threatened legal action. I chose to terminate the conversation at that point to review his complaint at a later time since we were inundated with calls because of the heat. As SOON as I was able to do so, I contacted him back and refunded him for his diagnostic fee. He paid only for the repair. He was still dissatisfied. It was very hot and we have had a lot of calls. Our #1 priority with our customer is to get them cooling/heating with 100% satisfaction. Unfortunately, as in the case with him, we cannot please everyone even though we make our best attempt to do so.

The technician was very courteous and polite. He explained everything that he was going to do. He also found issues with the original installation that another heating /AC company did when the house was built in 2009. The cost was higher than I expected because I was not aware of how much trip charges were in Wisconsin. After the job was done our AC was working better than when we bought the house. We will use them again!!

I called for an estimate for a HRV. When the guy showed up he told me they only install ERVs. When I asked what's the difference between the two he told me and I quote "I'm not going to get into a debate over that with you" HUH??? I'm asking can you tell me the difference or the pros and cons? He said "like I said before I'm not going to get into a debate over that, we only install ERVs and they work the best." He was $600 higher then four other companies I got quotes from.

Hello. My name is Phil. I am the General/Service Manager here at Stramowski Heating Inc. My primary responsibilities include customer service training as well as all technical training and product support. We do prefer to install the Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) rather than the Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV). There are several differences. Our Comfort Consultant (CC) knew that the ERV would be the best fit for this homeowner, but failed to simply explain the differences. It is unfortunate that he failed to convey those differences. Please be assured that this is not a typical scenario here at Stramowski Heating. We thrive on educating our customers. In fact, we reinforce this idea of educating our customers and train on “customer education” in our weekly service meetings. We emphasize that there is no room for this type of behavior in our training program. Since these are “service technician” meetings, our comfort consultant does not always attend these meeting. Upon arrival, our CC was made aware that his was the 5th quote that this homeowner would be receiving. This can be extremely discouraging to a sales person and was the likely cause for our CC’s disposition. However, it is no excuse for the type of attitude described in this report. I can assure this customer and anyone reading this report that we have taken steps to educate our customer consultant more regularly on educating our customers with continued training and putting into place a customer consultant debriefing process to prevent this from happening again. We sincerely apologize to this client regarding this incident.

I contacted Stramowski as an approved contractor for the Me2 Program. While talking with Brian Stramowski to schedule the work to be done, I mentioned I was also scheduling another contractor for other work as part of the program. Brian hesitated when I mentioned the other contractor as if he had reservations about the other contractor. He did not tell me what his reservations were, but when I asked if he couldn't work in the same house as the other contractor, he said it would not be a problem. I found this kind of attitude to be very unprofessional. From the time of signing the estimate to the scheduled date for the work, Brian checked in with me quite a few times to see if I had gotten pre-approval through the Me2 Program, if I submitted the signed estimates and if I had asked the bank for 30% down to the contractors for materials. I am not sure if he does this with all his Me2 clients, or if this "courtesy" is for female homeowners, but it was condescending and I felt as if I was being treated like a child. The other contractor did not treat me like this during any part of the program. I do want to note that the Stramowski crew was punctional and friendly. They had problems bleeding the kitchen radiator while bleeding all the radiators to ensure the boiler unit was functioning properly. Rob from Stramowski told me that if it didn't function properly within the week, to call back and they would come back out to try something different. When I did call back, the receptionist told me it would take a half day and an additional $300 to fix. I called a different contractor and described the problem. This other contractor ground down a radiator key that would fit the kitchen radiator valve and dropped it in the mail to me. I was able to bleed that radiator and the rest on my own for free.

Hello, my name is Phil. I am the Service Manager here at Stramowski Heating. I looked over this report and conferred with Brian and Kevin Stramowski about the issues stated here. The ME2 program is a government incentive program designed to help homeowners improve the efficiency of their homes by offering low interest financing for home improvements. When dealing with the ME2 program, any contractor involved must be in full compliance with the program and it’s specifications in all aspects of the project being financed. If even one contractor within the group is found to be noncompliant with the program’s standards then all financial disbursements for every contractor are withheld until the contractor in question has completed work in accordance with the rules. We discovered, in our work with the ME2 program, that a few contractors were not working within the specs of the program and were causing hold ups in funding dispersals. These same contractors were also found to be shorting our clients out of products and services. Since it is not good business to speak negatively about another company, Brian chose to reserve his comments. He only insisted that Member choose a more reputable contractor; one we knew to be in compliance. Within that past few years Stramowski Heating has seen an increase in the number of our consumers being declined on financing. While this may not be typical for this homeowner, it is an ever-increasing reality for our company. As a result, Stramowski Heating now takes 30% down on any large installation as a means of protecting itself from potential loss. However, if Member objected to putting 30% down initially, we would have likely waived this policy as we have done before from time to time. With regard to Member’s concern about female homeowners, I can only assure her that we treat everyone equally. We do not treat our female clientele any differently than our male clientele. Brian is very diligent about follow-up. It doesn’t matter if you are male or female. I would ask that if anyone ever feels like they are being mistreated in any way by anyone at this company that you give me a call and I will be sure to promptly resolve the issue. Unfortunately, this is the first that I heard about this issue but I am still willing to listen to any concern Member may have. In reference to the issue involving the bleeder key, we always try to quote our customers before we perform any work. Since this particular problem was not one that was a normal part of the installation a verbal $300.00 quote was given over the phone as a worst-case scenario. All of our boiler installation projects include normal bleeding/purging of air from the system which means that we can access all bleeders to work on them. In Member’s case, there was a unique situation with her kitchen floor installation that prevented us from gaining access to the bleeder valve. Our technicians were unable to do anything for that radiator after the installation since it was 8:30PM when they completed work. Any attempt to modify the existing radiator at that time may have resulted in other, more serious, issues. After speaking with Rob about the situation, he informed me that he recommended we dispatch a service technician out to more closely look at the bleeder and devise a solution. If our service technician was able to access the home and was able to modify a bleeder key to make it work then we would have never charged Member for anything more. This was an unusual situation and I apologize for any confusion on the matter. I can assure you that we will use this instance in future training here at Stramowski Heating. I would like to offer Member a free tune up on her boiler as a courtesy for the feedback and for her troubles. As I have stated before, we always want to retain happy customers.

I called Stramowski early in the morning. They told me they could come later in the day, which worked perfectly with my work schedule. Adam called before he came over, and quickly saw that the problem was with a filter. He replaced it and stayed around to make sure that the unit was heating the house at the set temperature. He did a great job. I would call this company again for any furnace or central air needs!

Was having problems with my furnace. Called them and they came out to look at the problems. One of the problems was I had a cracked heat exchanger. They refused to replace the parts or see if they could even get them. They pushed on selling a new furnace and A/C unit. They quoted me $9600 for new one. I called Roth heating and cooling after I bought and installed a new heat exchanger because my furnace was back firing. Not only did Roth say they could get the parts and fix the furnace, they also told me that if I wanted a new furnace and A/C it would only cost about $6800 for a every good unit. Would never use these guys again. If Rheem no longer made the parts why was I able to purchase the heat exchanger online(from an authorized Rheem provider) and install it without a problem. The furnace has been working just fine for about 3 months now. The real problem is that there was not a temporary fix till I could come up with the money. I knew the furnace and duct work need to be replaced but I needed something in place because of a 18 month old in the house. Roth also told me that they carry the parts at their facility.

Hello, I was out at your home with our technician when you were having issues with your furnace. On our first assessment of your situation we discovered that the way your furnace was installed was cause for concern. It was likely a large contributing factor in why the heat exchanger cracked in the first place. Since the system had never had a tune up by the prior owner of your home it was never inspected and the crack turned into a large hole in the exchanger cell. This happened on a Friday night. You had no heat. Myself and our technician worked on finding a solution to your problem for over three hours. The $9,600.00 estimate was for our company to install a new furnace and a/c system as well as fix the restrictive ductwork system that may have contributed to your original problem so that it wouldn’t result in a problem with the new furnace all on the following day(Saturday). Since we were unable to work out the details on the payment and the amount, we attempted to modify the estimate to bring the price down to something more manageable. We even reduced it to a furnace only price of $3,280.00 with the ductwork repairs included and installation on a Saturday. Unfortunately we were unable to find funding for the project. The following Monday I worked on locating a funding source for this project. The VP of our company also worked with his connections to no avail. I would like to also point out that we would have refunded the ENTIRE diagnostic fee to you if you had just called us and asked. We, at Stramowski Heating, install equipment properly and for a reasonable competitive price. Sometimes we run into issues where equipment isn’t installed properly and re-installation of new equipment on same improperly sized duct work would be irresponsible and unprofessional. As far as the heat exchanger goee; as I told you at your home, I contacted our Rheem representative about the heat exchanger availability and he informed me that they no longer make the heat exchanger for that furnace. I can only work off of the information that I have. Let me be clear, I WOULD NEVER sell something to a customer that he/she didn’t need. If you would like a refund for the diagnostic fee then please contact me at 414-762-6457. I sincerely apologize again for any confusion and/or any inconvenience. I would hope that after receiving your refund that you would change your opinion and statement made about our company.

The service person Adam, arrived as scheduled, introduced himself and explained what the tune-up entailed. He invited me to watch as he worked on the furnace, he described each task he did and explained why he did it. He was very knowledgable and did and excellent job. When completed, he again went over what he did, this time explaining it to my wife. Was very pleased with the work performed.

As you can tell from the above, I'm very pleased with the experience of using Stramowski. We had a bit of a problem getting our appointment time straightened out, but that doesn't negate our overall positive experience. I don't have a strong sense of the initial cost of the furnace tune up compared with other companies, but finding the problem to be a capacitor needing to be replaced for $60 versus hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a new blower or new furnace tells me Stramowski is interested in doing the right thing. Obviously, that pleases us and we will definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: Used Stramowski for our annual furnace check up. Learned of them through a Big Deal offer from Angie's List. There had clearly been something wrong with the blower unit on our furnace. Had used a couple of other companies in the past. Neither of them found the problem with the blower hinting strongly that a new blower or even a new furnace may be necessary. The Stramowski technician, Kyle, came in and diagnosed the problem within 5-10 minutes. It was a worn/failing capacitor which cost around $60. That was a whole lot better than spending hundreds of dollars for a new blower, or even a heavier hit on the pocket book for a new furnace. By the way, so far the blower is working just fine. Kyle handled the service call better than any technician I've ever had come to the house. He took the time to explain the entire situation and listened carefully to any questions I had---and then answered them directly. He worked competently and professionally. He represents the company very well. Will definitely use Stramowski in the future.

Brian Stramowski was professional and easy to do business with as well as his crew of 3+. They spent a day installing the furnace and air conditioner and removed all traces of the old furnace, leaving the area clean. Brian also had one of his men re-do the exhaust pipe from my dryer to the outside for better efficiency which was a nice bonus. Everything went well and I am pleased with the company.

This company offered a $69 furnace tune-up coupon through Angie's list Big Deals. I purchased the coupon and was able to set up an appointment the very same day. They worked with my work schedule and showed up on time the day of serviced. Kyle explained in detail what he would be doing and even took the time to answer questions I had about a recently installed central air unit (another company installed the air unit). After he was done with the furnace he offered to run tests on the central air unit, no cost to me, to ensure me that the refrigerant levels were accurate. Kyle also gave me tips on how to get the best performance out of my furnace. I was so impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and patience that I signed an agreement for Stramowski to do my furnace and central air unit tune-ups next year; $211.00.
