The punctuality grade was because he forgot we had an appointment, and by the time I got a hold of him and he arrived, it was more than two hours after our scheduled start time. However, the work was done within the window of time we had available for the day. I will call him again for future work.
Description of Work: Andy removed our kitchen sink, garbage disposal and faucet and replaced with new ones.

I received a verbal estimate within two days. I requested a detailed written estimate. Ten days and two more phone calls and still no written estimate. The last call went to voice mail and was not returned.

+ -1 moreIn a hurry to get our basement painted due to refinancing an FHA loan, Andy was prompt, helpful, informative, focused and didn't mind at all that my husband wanted to help get the project done as soon as possible. He started work the next day and they were able to finish it in 2 days. In addition, Andy advised my husband on a number of other home repair issues that we need to take on.

Description of Work: Andy and his co-worker did an excellent job. While some handymen quote their price per estimated hours a job will take, I prefer Andy's up front method of stating exactly how much everything will cost. They installed new front and back storms, put in three new interior doors with framing, etc. and locks in a lower level "rec" room, made a new small entry ("door") to a clothes chute in the basement from one side of wall to the other(and actually framed it in nicely), put in floor moulding around a room apaproximately 24 x 12, installed a smoke alarm and had a relatively good size tree which was already sawed down and left in large pieces by the Elec. Company cut into smaller pieces and hauled away. They were very friendly and personable and did everything in a clean and quiet fashion.

Andy came to our home and looked at what we needed, made a couple of suggestions for the problem areas and called that evening with a quote. We obtained several quotes, but there didn't seem to be a connection with the person. We think it is important to connect with the person that is going to do the work for you and Andy fit the bill with his quote and connection. We scheduled the work to be done. Andy and his partner, Patrick, arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves, completed all the work and did an outstanding job. The only downside was a slight extra charge for getting fluorescent light bulbs, rather than regular bulbs. We would, and have, recommended Andy.
Description of Work: Installed can lighting, light switches and hung a drop ceiling for our new basement rec room.

+ -1 moreThey came quickly, removed the access cabinet, finished the ceiling, repaired the tile floor, corrected the dry wall and paneling and gave it a wood seam so it's a finished product, then cleaned up the basement. They were very easy to work with, and they priced the job more than reasonably.
Description of Work: I previously had some work done in my basement by a contractor. They created a cabinet around my sewer access which was floor to ceiling. I was not pleased with the service and later realized that it was built inappropriately. A flood after the fact also created warping and additional problems tile floors. The contractor hid previous ceiling problems with the structure he built. I hired Zahn's to remove and replace this piece.

+ 0 moreAndy was great! I called on a Monday morning and spoke to him. He told me that he could meet me that afternoon to look at the job. We met at 3:30 promptly. He looked at what I needed to have done, gave me the $300 quote which included supplies (pipe, valve etc). He then said that he could do the work right away if I wanted. I said that would be great. So he fixed everything I had wanted and was at my house until about 7pm that night. He went through everything with me. It was great service!! I would definitely use this company again and would recommend to anyone. Not many companies will come out the same day and perform the services into the night on the same day. Thanks Andy. I will be calling you again when I need anything done on the house.
Description of Work: He switched out a long galvanized pipe in basement to copper piping and put a new shut off valve in that goes to the spigot in front of house.

The same day I called Andy Zahn, he came over in the afternoon and quickly repaired our broken mailbox. He did a great job and did an excellent clean up. He gave a follow-up phone call. I will refer him and definitely call him again.
Description of Work: New mail post provided. Old post had to be dug out of 4 feet of soil and cement base. New post sunk in 4 feet with cement base. Mailbox was reattached.

+ 3 moreZahn's offered to provide a free estimate. This was the only handyman who offered to do so. The quote seemed reasonable so we engaged their service without searching for another company. Andy and his assistant are very nice people. They are task focused and friendly. While they were here I asked if they had any suggestions as to who I should call to address the fact that wasps had built a nest under a roof tile. They sprayed under the tile and nailed down without any extra charge. I did not comment on the cost for the services rendered because it is the first time I had employed a handyman and I did not obtain any other estimates.
Description of Work: Hung storm and closet doors, sealed skylight window from the roof, reset bedroom door so it wouldn't drift closed, repaired kitchen ceiling crack, patched two locations in garage wall and replaced ceiling fixture (sconce).

They did have to run out to a hardware store to get the replacement stem and promptly put it in upon their return. It was approximately a two hour job for them. They were very personable and professional plumbers.

The 2nd day he was due to arrive at 9am but called right at 9:00am to advise they'd be here a bit later. I feel that was very professional and it was appreciated!
Description of Work: We had 3 areas in need of repair including patching 4 drywall holes, cleaning and staining inside of wooden windows and fixing a leak from one of our windows. All were done very quickly and with what seemed like ease! I feel his price was very reasonable.

+ -1 moreOverall, I was pleased with Andy's work. I had a very long list of repairs and projects that needed attending to. I initially told Andy I was not in any rush for these repairs/projects. This may or may not have set the tone for his attitude toward our repairs. Unfortunately, Andy was unable to follow through on many of these projects. I asked him for bids on replacing our deck and repairing/replacing our front entrance walkway. He did not call me back on any of this. He did leave me an email apologizing for "dropping the ball" because he found himself much more busy than he thought. I found this unprofessional and was angry that he treated us as an "after thought" to his larger projects. I will not use his services in the future.
Description of Work: Andy replaced a chandelier & some bathroom lights, repaired the attic insulation area, replaced a bathroom faucet and did a number of smaller repairs for us.
