Security Glass Block has been fabricating and installing glass block for over 20 years, having been incorporated in March of 1990. With our veteran staff of full-time employees (no sub-contractors), we have fabricated and installed more than 65,000 glass block panels for over 15,000 satisfied customers.
In terms of quality and consistency, other companies simply cannot compete. We assemble the glass blocks with a hot-melt adhesive, extruded by a highly sophisticated German engineered bulk melter under high temperature and pressure, by a computer controlled three-axis robot. The result is a far stronger, lighter weight, cleaner glass block panel, without the dirt absorbing mortar joints inherent in the "old" glass block panels. The finished glass block panel is installed by honest, courteous, fully insured professionals.
At Security Glass Block, we fabricate and install every job for your property as though we are doing it for ours

Services we offer
Installation of glass block windows for basements, baths & garages, partition walls for showers, offices, pre-fabricated glass block panels.
From start to finish this company was professional and courteous. Everything in the estimate was made clear including the dimensions and layout of the glass blocks. Samples of the types of block were provided for me to choose from and a walk-through inside and outside the house was done to see if there might be any complications. I was given a courtesy call the day before the installation and the workers arrived on time. The installation was complete in about 2 hours and the basement floor was left cleaner than when they came. I would recommend this company to my friends without hesitation.

The original installation of the 7 glass block windows went fantastic. They cleaned up after themselves and we were very happy with the windows and installation. When I initially called Jim to obtain an estimate about replacing the damaged window, he was very honest and upfront. The basement contractor's work was horrible and Jim wanted to ensure that we knew that they would do the best they could to clean up the mortar staining and that it might not look exactly the same as when they initially installed the glass back in 2007. He also was honest in telling us that the glass had changed slightly since 2007, but the slight difference did not deter us. The window was replaced and we are very happy with the results. We highly recommend Security Glass Block!
Description of Work: Back in October 2007 we had Security Glass Block install 7 glass block windows in our basement. In October 2008 we had basement work done and the hired contractors removed one of the glass block windows. After the basement work was completed, the contractors reinstalled the glass block window. These contractors did a horrible job of reinstalling the glass block window, including chipping a large corner of the window. We called Jim at Security Glass Block to remove and replace the window damaged by the basement contractors. Since it was getting cold, the window was replaced the following May.

Our old windows were inoperable and, as a result, filled with cobwebs and other debris. I did a lot research and went back and forth on whether to hire Security Glass Block or the other top-rated glass block company on Angie's List. SGB uses silicone between the blocks and the other company uses a traditional mortar. You will read pros and cons about each - some people swear by one and not the other - but it really comes down to personal preference. After receiving estimates from both companies within $20 of each other, I decided I loved the clean look of SGB's windows and scheduled installation for a day when I could work from home. The two-person crew (an older man as well as a younger man who seemed to require direction) arrived as scheduled. I walked them through the interior of our basement, indicating where the vented windows should go. One of the guys took me to their truck and showed me one of the new windows before installation - beautiful! They set about removing the old windows, frames and debris and then installing the new ones. The job took a good 4.5 hours from start to finish. I overheard one of the guys comment to the other that "...if every job were like this one, I'd be dead." They obviously worked very hard. My only disappointment is in the mortar that was used to set the windows into place. The SGB website compares pictures of a competitor's window to their window and writes "Their Window: The company that installed this window slopped mortar all over the brick fascia. This could have been easily avoided had the installers simply masked the brick prior to tuckpointing the mortar...Our Window: At Security Glass Block, we carefully mask the brick fascia precisely to avoid the type of mortar staining shown above, which is common with some of the other companies." It is clear that the brick on my house was not masked off prior to mortar application, as it is quite sloppy. I recall the installer informing me that the mortar would dry to nearly the color of the existing stone surface of our home, but that was not the case. I have not contacted them about this, but I am confident they would fix it if I did. Some mortar was also smeared on the basement floor and not cleaned up properly. This is why I gave them a B for professionalism. Other than these details, I am very happy with the new windows. It is amazing how much light shines through to the basement now. The new windows are beautiful, and I would most likely hire Security Glass Block again.
Description of Work: Security Glass Block removed our seven unsightly, nonfunctional wooden basement windows and replaced them with beautiful glass block. The new windows measure approximately 15" by 38", four with air vents and one with a dryer vent. One of the vents was free thanks to Angie's List.

They did a great job and the glass block looks really nice, but I was a little upset because they cemented the Aluminum siding window corners in. I did call and Jim explained why they did it and explained that when I have the siding replaced that they would come out and remove the corners if needed. I let him know that I removed the corners and that they could come back out and redo those areas which he agreed. They will bend over backwards to help please the customer.

They arrived on time, had a bit of trouble removing the old glass block window, so they needed to break it, with some verbal frustration they were able to remove the old window and put in the new window in. They cleaned up very well on the outside of the house, except they didn't paint the trim that they replaced, and small pieces of glass were still inside the bathtub and shower door track. They were extremely polite to me, my neighbors and my dog while performing the job. They kept me posted throughout the process and seemed very enthusiastic about what they do.

Excellent. Working with Security Glass Block was a very good experience overall. They were professional, responsive, and prompt. They did an AMAZING JOB. Jim is very professional and does a great job. My next door neighbors just got theirs done using a different company and it looks terrible! I am so happy I chose security glass block instead- the windows are centered with minimal cement around the outside, whereas my neighbors window has 3 inches of cement around the outside and an off center window. At first I couldn't decide which kind of glass I wanted, so Jim even let me borrow a few blocks to take home for the weekend to think about it! When they installed my milk chute- there were some scratches on the glass- I asked them to replace the glass but due to the location of the blocks they gave me a discount instead.

They were able to come by with no one home and take all measurements. Mailed a quote a few days later to the house. We decided not to use this company because they use a silicone joint instead of a mortared joint, plus their bid was higher by $130.00. Our existing glass block windows have mortared joints. We have used them in the past for a previous property and they did a good job.

We were exceedingly happy with this company. The workers were professional and did a good job of installation. When they arrived at our home to do the installation, it was discovered that the estimator had made an error and only given us an estimate for 7 basement windows when in actuality there are 8. This is something that we hadn't picked up on either. So, while other windows were being installed, the 8th window was quickly assembled back at their headquarters and driven over to our home with no time wasted. When it came time to pay, we were charged for only 7 basement windows. We had fully intended to pay for the 8th window. We feel the error in the estimate was an honest one, but Jim insisted that it had been an error on their part and therefore we would not be charged. What outstanding customer service!! Very unusual in our experience. We would highly recommend this company and would use them again in a heartbeat!

Removal of the old windows & frames went rather uneventfully, but the crew seemed to have difficulty getting some of the pre-assembled block windows to insert & fit properly around the uneven lannon stone exterior. A few windows required power chiseling away about an inch of the concrete block pad at the bottom of the opening, which was unexpected as a sales rep measured all the windows a few weeks ago. While wrestling with the installation of one window a young installer stepped on a storage shelf below the window and broke it (I probably should have removed the shelf & its contents prior to their arrival), repairing the shelf required replacing the brackets (a minor task that I did myself). When all the cementing & caulking was completed, all the new windows look and work great! Happily, the crew did comply with my request to insert a short length of 3/4" PVC conduit next to one window to allow cable & telephone wires to easily pass into the house (previously these wires ran through the frame of the old window), otherwise the wires would have been cemented & caulked into place. The result looks very good and allows wiring changes for future upgrades and maintenance.
Description of Work: Removed 6 old fixed & hopper-style basement windows and replaced with 32x20" glass block windows, 5 with air vents and 1 with dryer vent. Received a free air vent via Angie's List coupon.

Jim Coster is the new owner. When the work was originally done, 2 years ago, they should have glazed the mortar around the windows, so that water wouldn't seep in. When I called, he asked me if there was standing water in the wells and I said no. When he came out, he said he had asked me about leaves in the well, not about standing water. He claimed that the leaves were to blame for the leaking windows but had no explanation as to why the window that didn't have any leaves in it was leaking as well. He still tried to turn it around like it was my fault and I should have known better. Because some of the leaves were sticking to the mortar, they left a residue and moisture seeped through the cement He didn't try to wash the residue off before applying a sealant over mortar. Jim said the residue wouldn't come off, although he didn't even try to clean it. They never warned me that leaves could blow in over the winter and cause this problem. They should have sealed it to avoid this. He tried to make it look like I did something wrong, as though I left leaves in the wells all the time. He also said I should have prepared the surface before they put the sealant on but I had no idea they were even coming to do that. That should have been their responsibility anyway since they are the "professionals". So now, instead of nice clean white mortar around the windows, we have dirty blotchy stains that are sealed into the mortar permanently. Who would have thought that the small amount of leaves that flew in during the winter would cause all this trouble? Most of the wells were empty and there was just a very small amount of leaves on the mortar. Knowing that we were going to have window wells, where leaves could accumulate against the base of the windows, they should have applied that sealant when they first installed the windows. Jim, the owner, even admitted to this. In other words, all winter long, was I supposed to rake out all snow and leaves that might accumulate in the window wells or should he have applied that sealant in the first place?
Description of Work: I had called them because the Glass Block windows they installed 2 years ago were leaking. They knew at the time that we were having window wells put in. When they put the windows in, they did not tell me that I had to be careful during the winter of leaves and moisture. However, we were always careful in the fall and in the summer to keep leaves and grass clippings out of the well because we were afraid of animals and insects living in the wells.

I called for an estimate and the came within 2 business days and had the estimate by mail the next day. They came in a bit higher than another company but due to their good history of reports on Angie's List and a recommendation from a friend, I preferred to use them.
