This was one of the only companies that would charge by the hour. Most of the other companies had a 2 hour minimum. This was a simple job that only took a very short amount of time to do, but it was not something we could have done ourselves. The workers were pleasant, on time and very courteous and respectful. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat. Of other note, was that when I was calling around for estimates the person I talked on the phone with at Hernia Movers was very pleasant and communicative. I got the answers I needed with out having to ask a million questions or wait a million years. They also were able to schedule a very quick completion date.

It was great. I had originally asked for just the large furniture to be moved, but the day before the moved I called and asked if I could amend it to include everything else. They told to just tell the mover about it when he called the day of the move. Dave called about fifteen minutes before they arrived, and I told him I wanted more stuff moved. He was fine with that. And when they arrived, they made me feel very confident about their ability to move some fragile items. They were very fast and efficient, nothing was broken, nicked or in any way damaged. They even put items in the rooms where they belonged at the new house. I can't say how much time and stress I saved using them. And all this took less than two hours. I had all my items well packed and moved into my front rooms, which certainly sped up the process and made it easier on the guys, but I can't tell you how great they were. These guys work hard and didn't stop once. The pricing is by the hour, including travel time, so the estimate was just per hour. I had no idea it would be so fast, so I was pleasantly surprised at the price.

I had to get a couple of pieces moved on very short notice up two flights of stairs. Hernia was ultra-responsive and sent two guys right away. They needed to take doors off of hinges, etc., which they did carefully and expertly. They were very pleasant and professional-- don't let the piercings scare you off. I feel very fortunate to have them in my Rolodex.

I called on a Thursday and was able to set up an appointment for Monday. Flat per hour rate of $94 or $95. Thought it would cost about $300, but it ended up taking more time and cost $500. I think the charge was reasonable, as it was more than it looked. Don't like having to pay for the travel time, but I knew that was the way they charged from the beginning. Also bought boxes and packing supplies. It was nice to not have to do it. I will have to wait until spring to see if they packed well when I unpack.

It was the best $500 I have ever spent. We usually move ourselves, but as I was 7 months pregnant, this was not an option. They were extremely friendly and fast. They sent three young men to our apartment and they managed to get everything out and into our house in under 4 hours, including the 30 plus boxes of books we had.

They did a great job. On time, professional, and very helpful. These were heavy and they did a good job lining them up where I wanted them in my basement and adjusting the bottoms so they were level. It took a bit longer than I had anticipated, so that attributed to the slightly higher costs.

The movers never called before arrival, even though the confirmation call the night before indicated they would. Movers were unprofessional and reeked of cigarette smoke. The movers had to be asked twice to cover up our solid oak furniture even though it was raining outside. They took very little care with our items. Before leaving the old house, one mover took an extended smoke break. When my husband asked if they knew how to get to the other house they were planning to take a route that would have taken more than double the necessary time. At the new house they unloaded the items and never wiped their feet even though we had placed additional rugs all over the house, tracking dirt everywhere. All items had been moved into the new house except our king size mattress and it seemed to be taking a long time for them to get it in the house. When my husband and I looked downstairs, the movers were cramming our mattress into a ball and tightening straps around it. I immediately said to my husband that this would not be a good situation. The mattress ripped in two places, through the fabric on the bottom and several layers of foam, up to the springs. The movers never apologized. It has been over a month since this happened and we have had nothing but trouble with trying to get the situation resolved. First we were offered $50. After discovering that it is not possible to repair the mattress we were offered $250 which was supposedly twice the amount someone at Verlo Mattress said it would cost to fix the mattress (although Verlo won't fix it, nor will anyone else). When my husband and I asked a Verlo Mattress employee at the Menomonee Falls store what the cost would be, they said the mattress would have to be rebuilt and it would cost a minimum of several hundred dollars but that they won't fix it because it's not their mattress. Hernia told us the person we talked to lied. After weeks of back and forth the claim went first to one insurance company and now to another who told us they can only pay $90 based on the weight of the mattress which they claim is 100lbs. The pillow-top king mattress probably weighs at least three times that much, probably more, and the insurance company refuses to weigh it to get an actual weight. This has been a horrible experience and we should have just moved the items ourselves. Dealing with everyone from the movers to the office manager to the owner has been awful - they are unprofessional, at times rude, and overall unpleasant to deal with. I would never do business with them again. The person who recommended them to me has also decided to never use them again. Think twice before choosing this mover. They are completely unprofessional, have terrible customer service, and if they damage any of your items it may never get resolved. I did a lot of research before choosing a mover, and unfortunately it did not do me any good because we still ended up in this awful situation.
Description of Work: Moved a king size mattress and box spring, solid oak bedroom set (bed, dresser, mirror) and snow blower from our house on the northwest side of Milwaukee to new house in Germantown.

Response from Hernia Movers Inc
Hernia Movers moved the complainant's belongings. During the course of the move a bed mattress tore. The mattress was not mishandled but damage did occur. Hernia Movers then had contact with the spouse of the complainant and only with the spouse of the complainant. The spouse, after discussions with Hernia Movers office manager and owner, requested the claim, a tear on the underside of a mattress, a mattress that is still in use, that a claim be submitted to Hernia Movers insurance carrier. Hernia Movers did as directed and submitted a claim on behalf of the client. He, the complainant's spouse, thanked Hernia movers twice via email for the promptness with resolving this matter. He also said he would deal with the insurance company and work directly with them. We had an agreement, matter solved, case resolved. We parted amiably and agreeably. On July 8th, 2008 the insurance company sent a formal letter to the complainants. Ten days later the complainant wrote Angie's list with quite a colorful tirade. Apparently the settlement offered by the insurance company did not please the complainant, hence her vitriolic complaint to Angie's List. Also, at no time was anyone from Hernia Movers ever "rude" or "unprofessional" with the complainant, we never spoke or wrote to her. How could we be "rude" or "unprofessional" we never had contact! The letter from the complainant is an angry, vengeful tirade filled with inaccuracies and distortions and should be viewed as such. Hernia Movers never denied the mattress tear. On the day of the move the movers wrote it on the Bill of Lading, Hernia's Office manager upon inspection acknowledged the tear and I concur. Again, the customers wish was to submit this claim to insurance. The matter was resolved in accordance with the customers wish.

Representative came by the house to get information for an estimate. I received the estimate a few days later. I was able to make all arrangements for the move over the phone, as I had already started working out-of-state. The movers (three men) showed up at the time they said they would on the morning of moving day. They worked very efficiently and were able to load the truck in just a few hours. After the four-hour drive to the new location, they (only two made the trip) got everything unloaded and reassembled and were gone by early evening. Nothing was broken; there was not a scratch on anything. They really took good care of my belongings.

Amazing !!!!!! My mother lived in a senior apartment and had to move to an assisted living complex. It was a last minute move, due to her being in a rehab nursing home, and they were releasing her on Saturday. I called on Monday, to move on Wednesday and it was no problem, extremely accommodating under the short notice. The movers came promptly at 8:30 a.m. I told the guy's we had to be moved in before 11:30 a.m. at the new residence, due to it being the lunch hour for the seniors, we couldn't move in at that time, if we weren't finished, we would have to wait until after 1:00 p.m. If that was the case it was no problem for them, they were SO nice. I had 3 movers and they couldn't use the elevator, because of lighting, hitting the electrical boxes during one of storms, but that was not a concern to them. They moved everything from the second floor, to the truck by 10:10 a.m., and using the steps. From Franklin to Oak Creek they arrived at 10:30 a.m. and were informed they had 45 minutes to move mom's stuff in, and then would have to wait until after the lunch hour, due to the elevator being used by the residence, that live there. (By the way her new apartment is on the 3rd floor) They were done by 11:15 a.m. and not a dent, scratch, nothing! Even set up moms bed, placed items in the rooms I needed them in, they were just amazing. I would highly recommend they to anyone and already have. Thanks guy's !!

We were in a crunch and the company did the move at the last minute for us. We had the whole truck to ourselves, so no fear of mixing our belongings with another's. The men called to say they would be coming a little earlier and were right at the time they said. They were friendly and very good at what they do. They charge by the hour, and we didn't see them taking any breaks. They really hustled through the move. They were careful with our belongings and nothing appeared to have been broken and no walls scarred up. Thank you Dave and Jim!
Description of Work: Move out of a 2 br. apt. into a house 15 min. away; no appliances, sofas or TV's. They moved large, heavy furniture out of the basement of the house we were moving into. This company charges by the hour and the clock starts ticking from the time they leave their office on N. Pierce St., Mil. until they return, so if you live quite a distance, you might want to figure that into the estimate. They calculate on normal driving time, and do not charge for heavy traffic.

The entire experience with Hernia was very positive, from the time I first called to get an estimate all the way through the move! The entire team of movers (four of them) were very pleasant and professional. They worked hard and efficiently. They were especially kind to make several different attempts to move a box spring, mattress and sofa through some very tight doorways/stairways. I really appreciated their efforts to make them fit, despite the sofa not being small enough to fit into the basement room it was intended for. I would not hesitate to hire Hernia again or recommend them to anyone!

I arranged for the removal of the sofa bed by Hernia Movers because I wanted professional movers to negotiate the difficult path out of my house with the very heavy and bulky sofa bed, rather than risking damage to walls or counters. They arrived at the promised time, moved the sofa bed to their truck quickly and skillfully, and dropped it off at the Goodwill facility I requested. I had to pay the minimum one-hour fee, although it didn't take that amount of time; but it was worth the cost, given the skill they displayed wending their way through snow covered walks and around high piles of snow.

Move scheduled between 12 and 2 on a Saturday, based on my inventory list, it was estimated to take 2 hours. Dan and Jerry called at 1pm to let me know it'd be 30-45 minutes. 40 minutes later they arrived and had everything loaded and solidly secured in their truck within 15 minutes, everything had been packed and ready to load in my garage. Unloading on east side took longer, but still went well. Done by 3:17pm. Charged for 2 1/2 hours moving. I only asked them to be very careful with the platform bed frame (Dan joked it was ok then to throw everything else around). They were very careful with all my belongings, nothing was broken or scratched. I moved most breakables myself though, dishes and vases, etc.
