The sales rep who came out was 30 minutes late, but he called to tell us he would be, so this was fine. He wasn't overly pushy, and listened to what we wanted. He took measurements thoroughly and I believe his estimates were pretty accurate. He then quoted us a price based on the type of carpet we indicated we liked best (of the four choices - four? really?). The price was great, but of course was only available until the end of the month. We felt we couldn't commit to a big purchase like that with so little time, and we weren't impressed with the quality and selection of the carpets they offered. We will look elsewhere when re-carpeting becomes more of a reality for us.
Description of Work: We asked Empire to send someone out for an estimate, based on the offer we saw on TV for buying one room and getting two additional rooms of carpet free.

I was using them for the first time. I needed new carpets quickly. They removed the old carpets first and installed new ones. They did the job quickly and it went pretty well. It was a reasonable job. Their quickness was the only thing that I really liked. There was probably a better selection of carpets in other places. I will use them again only if I need the work done quickly.

We called them last year to install a new floor in a master bedroom, small bedroom and hallway. They quoted us almost $8,000.00! And that was with 60% off! I thought that price was crazy! I thought they were over priced this most recent time. We went somewhere else to have this floor installed. I would never hire them again and I wouldn’t refer them to anyone. I would say buyer beware if anyone asked about them.
Description of Work: We had laminate flooring installed in our kitchen 3 – 4 years ago. I thought everything went well. This was the first time I’d had laminate put down. I thought their estimate was fair. Friends had told me it was good. They installed the flooring in one day like they said they would.

Overall they did a good job. The only problem is they would not guarantee what time they would come. Luckily they came in the morning and they took an entire day to do the work. The work was ok. They cleaned up after they finished the work.

I chose Empire because I needed carpet fast. They were fast with their salesperson and the installation, but not so fast on addressing my concerns. I specifically told the salesperson I wanted good quality carpet to last. He assured me that the carpet I selected was one of their best. After only 2 months it looked very worn in several places. I called and spoke with someone that was not only rude, but seemed very inexperienced with customer service. Empire said I would have to contact one of their inspectors (why do I have to do that)? After the inspector came and took pictures and some samples, he said he would write up a report and someone would get back to me. After his evaluation he said there was nothing wrong with the carpet. Empire then told me there was nothing they could do - I had selected the carpet myself. I will never do business with this company and tell everyone I know just how Empire operates. Whatever happened to the customer coming first?

After they installed the floor it looked good, but then the flooring started to raise. I also noticed that water was coming from the toilet after flushing it. I called Empire to check the flooring and they stated that "I must use a lot of water when I wash the floor," which isn't the case. I had plumber come out to inspect the problem and I paid him $335 to reset the toilet because when the floor was installed Empire didn't correctly set the toilet. The plumber also said there's a lot of water and moisture underneath the laminate flooring that's causing the vanity and molding to separate and crack. I have a 25 year warranty with the floor and Empire Today isn't taking responsibility for their own incorrect installation actions. I wouldn't use them again or recommend them to others!

Very poor quality of install and return of customer service calls. It took me 4 calls and 2.5 weeks to get contact. No further contact for resolve in 2 weeks. Drivers left large mess including trash from their lunch and an oil stain on my concrete driveway. Carpet, now, after 1 month is starting to unravel. Highly disappointed overall.

The salesman said that the Berber would be very durable for the dogs (I was specific in my request). When the installers came, we could not communicate with them because they did not speak English. The carpet loops are pulling up all over the place in the living room. We called and they came out and said the carpet is inferior and they would have to redo the living room and would have to talk to a supervisor. A woman from the office called and said the rep thought it was because of our dogs. I explained that they are not young dogs and are in fact show dogs that are extremely well groomed and behaved. There were pulls in the carpet even under the couch and when I vacuumed the carpet even pulled up. They then said they had to send a company out who they outsource customer issues to, but he called me at the most bizarre times and wanted to come out at 8pm on a Sunday night. After three months of frustration with Empire Today, we went elsewhere to have the carpet replaced.

We called on Monday, & that afternoon, a representative came to give an in-home estimate. He was on time & professional. I told him I would get back to him after speaking with my husband. The next day I called the 800 number to place the order & schedule the installation. I was told they would contact the sales rep. The sales rep. then left a message saying he was too busy & wouldn't be able to place the order for 2 weeks. Friday, another rep. came & took the order. The installation was to be Tuesday, with a window between 8 am and 6 pm. They arrived at 6:20 pm. It took me 25 minutes on the phone to cancel the order. I cancelled because they were late. It was at least a 3 hour job, and if I rescheduled, I would still have to wait between 8 am and 6 pm. I had already wasted one day and didn't want to waste another. They said they will send back the deposit.

The sales experience was great. The salesman had great suggestions and showed us what we wanted to see. Once we made our decision, we scheduled a date for installation. The installation window was rather large, 8 a.m to 6 p.m. The installers were polite, efficient and very thoughtful. They kept us apprised every step of the way. The weather was so bad that although they normally cut the carpet in the truck they cut it in the basement to avoid any damage from the elements. This was a great experience, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I called Empire on a Friday, had a salesman drop in on Monday, and carpet was installed on Tuesday. That was the best thing I liked about Empire. The salesman started out showing us a Berber which was too much for our needs. Then he showed an alternative that was $1000 less, and worked just as well for us. He was courteous and professional and easy to work with. I'd give him an A, but the crew would get a C. They were OK, did a passable job, but could have cleaned up better. Misc bits and pieces of carpet shred were left lying around. Loud boombox was part of the activities. They also require full payment before the carpet is cut and installed. Maybe this is the norm in the business. The installers said they are sub-contractors who drive up from Chicago to Milwaukee to do work, even though the Empire rep on the phone said the installers are employed directly by them.

ANYWAY, IT WAS CONVENIENT BECAUSE I DID NEED THE CARPET IN THE NEXT DAY AND THE INSTALLERS DID A GREAT JOB. IF YOU USE THEM, PAY ATTENTION TO THE QUOTED PRICE AND REFUSE TO PAY THE 20% WASTE.

THE EMPIRE SALESMAN, BOB WEISS WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND HELPFUL IN SELECTING A CARPET FOR OUR NEW CONDO. THE DAY OF INSTALLATION WAS FRUSTRATING THOUGH. I WAS TOLD THAT INSTALLERS WOULD CALL ONE HOUR BEFORE ARRIVAL, HOWEVER HAVING NOT HEARD ANYTHING BY 2 P.M, I CONTACTED BOB, WHO AFTER TALKING TO THE DISPATCHER SUGGESTED I LEAVE WITHIN THE HOUR. INSTALLER CALLED AROUND 5 P.M WITH TRUCK PROBLEMS, AND THEN AGAIN WHEN LOST. TEAM DID NOT FINISH INSTALLATION UNTIL NEARLY 9 P.M. OVERALL, THE FINAL PRODUCT WAS EXCELLENT, HOWEVER, I FEEL THEY COULD HAVE DONE A MORE PROFESSIONAL JOB OF CLEANING UP, AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE IF IT HADN'T BEEN SO LATE. HAD THEY BEEN ON TIME AND CLEANED UP PROPERLY, I WOULD DEFINITELY RATE THEM AS AN A, BECAUSE THE CARPET LOOKS GREAT.
Description of Work: REMOVED OLD CARPET AND INSTALLED NEW MOHAWK NYLON CARPET ON STAIRWAY, UPSTAIRS HALL WALL, THREE BEDROOMS, ONE LARGE AND TWO SMALL WALK-IN CLOSETS.

CAT DID A FABULOUS JOB. HIS TEAM EVEN MOVED KITCHEN APPLIANCES. THE IN-HOME SALES WAS VERY HELPFUL, AS I COULD MATCH THE FLOORING TO MY EXISTING DECOR. VERY PUNCTUAL AND WILL USE THEM AGAIN.
