Description of Work: My computer's adapter stopped delivering a charge to the computer and the computer became non-functional so I was without a computer and in pretty desperate shape (probably true of most of their customers!). I took the computer and adapter to Computer Gallery, and asked them to check the adapter, and see if they might be able to replace it. They were unwilling to do this while I waited, saying that it might be the computer, not the adapter, and they'd have to check through about 30 adapters in stock, so I left it overnight. When I picked it up, I was told that it was the adapter -- the computer was fine -- and they didn't have a replacement that would work with my computer, so it might be a week before the computer was working, and I'd need to make another trip to the shop. I asked if it might be possible to get an adapter from Amazon, and she kindly checked for me and found one that could be delivered to my house the following day, for less than Computer Gallery would have charged; she charged me only for 15 minutes of labor. I don't own a car, so each trip to Computer Gallery was about an hour each way on the bus. I thought the service was professional and competent, but not terribly prompt or convenient.

Description of Work: My computer would not boot. One of the partitions on the hard drive was corrupted and it was not simple to figure this out because of the configuration. This is a six year old computer and I was already prepared to replace it but it crashed before I could. John (at Computer Gallery) carefully diagnosed the problem, got the computer bootable again and gave me the option of taking it back as is ($100) OR replacing the hard drive (+$89). The whole diagnosis and repair process took 4 days and John was very patient and informative with my daily phone calls. I now feel like I can replace this computer in a controlled fashion and have a good (although aging) computer for other purposes. I would highly recommend Computer Gallery to anyone that asked.

 + -1 moreThey spent a few days trying to get the computer to work again. He started it up, but some programs were missing. Then I got a call he was able to restore some. But he needed some software disks which I had lost to make it fully functional. Because of that he was not happy over the final result, so he did not charge me for his lengthy work. But I was pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Helped restore a computer that went completely dead. Could not get on the screen at all.

Description of Work: Initial Visit: Analyzed computer malfunction and recommended options to repair/replace (motherboard) with approximate costs. Did not charge for evaluation. Subsequent Visit: Switched hard drive from defective computer to a new (refurbished) computer. Checked components.

 + -1 moreI am very pleased with the work he did and the advise he provided. The price was fair and competitive for the work performed.
Description of Work: Replaced my hard drive, recovered the data from my broken hard drive, and loaded my data on the new hard drive. The hard drive replacement was $119 the rest of the cost was data recovery and loading. Phil let me know up-front that he may not be able to recover the data and if he did it would not be cheap. But it was worth it. When I got my computer back it was as if the hard drive had never crashed. Phil also took the time to explain options for backing up data in the future and pointed me to free-ware for doing data back-up.

We had just had an awful experience with another highly-rated computer service provider, who kept saying that he couldn't find the problem for over five days. Computer Gallery completed their service in less time than they told us, just 24 hours. They were very knowledgeable and solution-oriented. They improved the problem and importantly, limited their service charges. I would always look for this in a computer repair service. Suggestion based on our experience: Always check to see if, like Computer Gallery, a repair service has a maximum service charge policy. If they charge by the hour and offer no upper limit to their charges, they can keep ''working'' on your computer until the bill is hundreds of dollars. Computer Gallery gives a maximum service charge and stands by their word. Excellent work.
Description of Work: The Computer Gallery did diagnostic work, to check for viruses and spywear or hardware defects on a computer that was running slowly. They recommended a RAM upgrade, which accounted for about 1/2 of the total cost. They said that we could take home the computer and try out the upgrade and that, if it did not help, they would refund the total cost. NOTE: We took the computer to COMPUTER GALLERY, after another computer repair service took 5 days to fail to find the problem. Computer Gallery took less than 24 hours. We are very pleased.

 + -1 moreKaren and Phil are precious gems among an industry cluttered with companies and individuals that don't seem to care because they know more than you do about computers, and think you have to do it their way. How they stay in business competing with the big box stores and online discounter is no surprise. They offer personalized service and good advice with every visit, in addition to their surprisingly low rates. My one complaint: they should be charging more.
Description of Work: Diagnosed bad hard drive, fixed all my screw-ups and reassured me that everything would be OK while I awaited their call. When they did call, less than 24 hours later, everything was ready, my hard drive data already backed up, installed on a new drive and a new fan installed. They also determined that the sparks I created trying to fix it myself did no permanent damage.
