Jill was very personable on the phone and came out to do the estimate. She was very informative and professional. Scheduling an install date was easy and I was well informed up front as to what to expect from a process standpoint. I was also provided with written materials detailing what I needed to do to get the room ready. I called the company and left a message about 6 days before the install to get a better sense of the time they would be arriving ( so I could schedule work meetings). Unfortunately I never received a response. Josh, the installer called me the morning of the work to let me know what time he was coming. He did a very professional job. After the first day's work was complete, he let me know he would be back the next morning at 7:30 am. The next day I waited until about 8:15 and then called the office (got an answering machine) to ask where Josh was. About the same time I called Josh arrived. He told me that traffic was really bad. I believe him, but would have appreciated a call at 7:30, his scheduled arrival time, to let me know he was on his way but stuck in traffic. The work was completed and I am very pleased with the floor. The only negative I had was not receiving a call back, and when I did not receive a call when the installer was running late. Otherwise I am very happy with the job done.
Description of Work: The Company resurfaced a wood floor in a 10x10 bedroom. This included sanding down the floor with several different levels of paper, staining the floor and then sealing the floor with two coats of finish.

Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, the office was unable to return the phone call for the approximate start time on Tuesday, December 18th. Jill Anderson, who runs the office, was addmitted to the emergency room on Friday, December 13th with a severe soft tissue infection in her throat. It resulted in a 3 day hospital stay during which time she was unable to talk, swallow or eat anything. By the time she was released from the hospital, the job had already started when voice mail was checked and the call was received by the office.

Everyone's expectations about what should be paid for a wood floor is different and most companies have minimum charges. This customer would have fallen under our minimum charge for her 2 bedrooms that she wanted refinished. Because of the ecomony, everyone is looking for bargains. But you must distinguish between a bargain and value when comparing your estimates. There is a very big difference between the $20.00 per gallon finish that can be bought (bargain) versus $120.00 per gallon with Bona's Traffic HD finish (value) that reputable companies use. Just like anything, and especially when it comes to floor finishes, the better quality of finish used, the more expensive the product is because of the high-end materials used to make the finish and the more longevity you will receive in the wear of your hardwood floor and the less attention it will need in the future in the way of recoating or refinishing. We only use top of the line finish products by Bona who is the leader in the industry. Also our employees have been with us over 10 years and the owner, Scott Anderson is on the job most of the time. Being one of Bona's Certified Craftsman and partnered with this manufacturer, you are guaranteed the expertise of well seasoned craftsman with a 100% guarantee on the job by our company and Bona; no doubts as to who is doing your job, how qualified they are or what outcome you will receive. We also are committed to following all of the "best practices" of the industry, no short-cuts, skipping procedures or applying your finish too thin or with substandard products. Many contractors will not list on the bid whose products you are going to get on your floor. With Anderson, our bids are complete, you know what products are being used and there are no hidden charges. We encourage all customers to call us about competitive bids so we can compare apples to apples.

Everything went very well. They worked steadily and cleaned up well when they finished. The process had much less odor than I had anticipated, and was done more quickly than I would have thought for the single room. The second job, which included the stairs, had to have hand sanding, so was slower, but the worker spent the day doing the sanding, and then the next day finished and the stain could be applied. The whole process took three days. They cleaned up everything well, and left good instructions for care.
Description of Work: We had a coupon for one room, where we had discovered (after 20 years in the house) that there were hardwood floors in a bedroom. Jill came and gave an estimate, and they were able to fit us in the following week. They came and sanded, then applied the finish, and sealer. Then we found that the hardwood also extended to two other bedrooms and the stairs, so we decided to do one bedroom and the stairs. Jill was able to schedule us quickly because they had a delay for starting another job.

I joined Angie's list after a negative experience with a roofer prior to joining. As a first time home owner I learned quickly the importance of being able to find reliable contractors to help me care for the one of the most important investments I will ever make...My home. I knew there were hard wood floor under the carpeting in my home so I removed the carpeting. What I found was a little dissapointing to the lay man's eye. The floors were badly stained from the carpet pad that had been laid in the living room and hallway. In addition, I was not sure if the dark cherry stain that had been used in the dining room would come off. I found Anderson Flooring on Angie's List and made the appointment to have them come to my home to complete an estimate. Right from the start Jill was very professional and flexible with appointment times based on my work schedule which was greatly appreciated. Jill came to my home to complete the estimate within a week of my first call. She was very knowledgable, professional, and pleasant. She was also very personable and kind. She made me comfortable with what she had to share. I am not the type who likes the home consultation visits, but Jill's personality and the manner in which she approaches what she does immediately removed any misgivings I may have had. Jill explained to me in detail the products they use, the training their associates are required to successfully complete, she explained each package available and which packages are appropriate based on lifestyle (children, pets, traffic, etc), she completed measurements, and left me with a folder of information for me to review. The estimate was mailed to me in writing timely as promised within a day or two. There was no attempt to oversell me something I did not need which I greatly apprecaited. She ensured all my questions were answered so that I would be able to make an informed decision as to what was best for me an my home. I mailed the contract back to Jill with the earnest money and within a day of mailing Jill had contacted me to schedule the work. Two weeks later, on 9/24/12, Josh arrived at my home, on time as promised to begin work. He explained to me the process that would take place over the two days it would take to complete the work and what I should expect. He patiently answered all of my questions ( and there were a lot of them), we discussed my concerns about the stains on the floor and the dark stain that was used in the dining room, and although I was very concerned Josh was completely confident from the very begining that all would be well. We looked at stain colors, I choose the color I wanted, and I was off to work. When I arrived home from work Josh had left a note on the door as to what time the staining had been completed, what time I could walk on the floor, and the do's and dont's. I walked in the house and literally stood in amazement for a few seconds. I was beyond thrilled and amazed at how beautifully the floor had been done. There was absoutely no trace of a stain anywhere and the dark cherry stain in the dining room was completely removed. The color Josh help in choosing was perfect for the space, very warm, and not too dark. Josh arrived the 2nd morning to complete the work, on time as promised, and again explained what the plan for the day would be. I left Josh in my home for two days without a concern at all as to the fact that he was there by himself. When I have the rest of my floors re-finished I will without a doubt be contacting Anderson Flooring to do the work. As far as I am concerned you could not ask for more. Right from the first phone call I made to Anderson they took care of me and my home in a professional and personal manner. Everyone's home is important to them and Anderson made me feel like and demonstrated to me that my home was important to them too. It was not just another job. THANK YOU ANDERSON!!!
Description of Work: I removed carpeting in my home to expose the hardwood floors. The floors were heavily stained in areas where carpet pad was laid down in the living room an hallway and the diningroom had been stained a dark cherry color which I also wanted removed. Anderson Flooring sanded and refinished the hardwood floors in my living room, dining room, and hallway.

When we contacted Anderson Floors, Jill came to our house for the estimate and a detailed explanation of the refinishing process, the products to be used and also the best aftercare proceedures for wood flooring. This company provided the most detail and information for our project of refinishing a floor in a house buildt in 1929.A two weeks out start date was agreed upon for the two day job. The refinishers were punctual, professsional, knowledgable and hard working. There was a minimum of disturbance as they contained the dust and equipment to the room being worked on from the rest of the houseThey let us know where they were in the process and what neded to be done next .We used the Angie's List coupon and found the price to be reasonable, the finished work excellant and the complimentary wood floor cleaning solution useful. We will use this company again when we work on the other rooms in our house.
Description of Work: We had a bedroom with a very old wall to wall carpet which we wanted to remove and have the wood floor refinished. We removed the carpet and underneath the old padding had petrified and stuck to the wood floor. Anderson Floors undertook the job of removing the old padding(at no extra cost to us and a big relief that we did not have to get down on our hands and knees to scrap off the old padding!), as well as, refinishing (sanding, staining and varnishing) the wood floor of the bedroom and the closet.

We contacted Anderson Floor Co. because of the coupon on Angie's List. The saleswoman returned my call and came out for an estimate in a timely manner, and was professional and friendly. Jill scheduled the work at a time that was convenient for us. The workmen were courteous and informative regarding what they were doing and the condition of our floor. Their equipment included a vaccuum sanding feature that removed almost all of the dust from the room, which made cleanup very easy. The finish dried fast enough so that walking on it with socks happened relatively quickly. Now, our floor looks better than it did when we refinished it 10 years ago.
Description of Work: Anderson Floor Co. refinished the maple floor in our kitchen area. They sanded, sealed and recoated the floor over a 2-day period. They did an excellent job, removing most of the graying that occured as the previous finish wore away. The product they applied brought out the beautiful color and grain of the maple. We chose the hardest finish they offered so it will last a long time.

We have used Anderson Flooring on a number of projects now and they always do a very good job. For the stairway work they arrived on time, finished when they said they would finish and left the stairwell clean and tidy. They are priced competitively and they do good work. You will find less expensive floor re-finishers out there but (from experience) you get what you pay for.

The two men who performed the work certainly knew what they were doing and they did it with utmost efficiencey. They were in the best of humor and easy to talk to and answered any questions I put forward with good explanations. I would certainly recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Two men sanded the family room, foyer and bedroom hall. All dust contained in their equipment. I was shown 3 diffeent colors of stain and chose the lightest shade. After checking for any bad or missed spots, the stain was put on and I was asked to keep the outdoor doors closed for 2 hours to keep any dust off. The next day they returned and applied a coat of finish and I again was asked to keep door closed for 2 hours. After 5 hours they returned and even though I thought the floor looked great, they again sanded and corrected any spots they thought needed improvement. They applied anaother finish coat and left with the same advice - no open doors for 2 hours. .

We received several bids from flooring refinishers and we decided to go with Anderson based on our initial interview, the estimate, and the reviews on Angie's List. They started the job on February 21. That morning, a crew member arrived and got right to work. We selected a stain from the first 5 that we were shown. He returned that afternoon with a second crew member, and they both returned the following day to complete the job...or so we thought....Once the final coat was on the floor, we noticed several lighter spots on the floor. At first we thought it was a play of light, but then as it dried, it was apparent that there were markedly lighter spots throughout the floor. In addition, there was dripped stain in several places - at first we thought that this may be due to the wood, as it is 141 year old maple, and we were expecting the floor to be darker/lighter in areas. However, upon closer inspection, it was clear that these were drips/splashes. We contacted Jill and Scott Anderson and they listened to our concerns and made an appointment to view the floor themselves. They did mention that the crew that was at our house was professional, and that the wood may be uneven because it is an old maple floor. Upon their inspection, however, they offered to completely redo the floor, as the light spots were due to inappropriate sanding done by the crew members. It was also agreed that perhaps waterpopping would be necessary to acheive the best result. So, we scheduled another appointment to have our floor completely redone on March 3. Scott arrived with the two original crew members and got to work. They discussed each decision point with my husband, who was working from home that day. It was rather obvious that the two crew members were unhappy to be there - I attempted to say hello to one of them in the morning, but I was completely ignored (even though I was standing about 5 feet from him & he looked right at me). Also, at one point, Scott left and my husband told them that he would be working in the office (which is adjacent to the area in which they were working). Either they forgot or they didn't care that he was there, because they spent the rest of their time complaining that "this is going to take all f*cking day" and complaining about Scott. BUT - the end result is an absolutely gorgeous floor. We have NO complaints, and it looks beautiful. The attached photo doesn't do it justice (any lighter marks in that photo are due to the flash & not actually flaws). Overall: -I believe that the original crew incorrectly assumed that we didn't care about the result just because my husband and I are pretty laid back. We didn't hover over them or "check up" on them - in fact, the guy that showed us the stain samples said that most people take a really long time, whereas we took about 5 minutes. I can't quite figure out why they would think we wouldn't care about drips and obvious flaws when we were spending $1200. Or, maybe they were just stoned &/or aren't invested in their jobs. -I want to make it clear that we aren't super perfectionists. In fact, we hesitated to even call at first because we understand that older floors can be tricky. However, given how quickly they agreed that the floor needed to be redone, I think it is pretty clear that it was in bad shape after the first round. -Having our house uprooted and messy (or, messier than usual...) for much longer than expected (Feb 21 to March 4) was more than we bargained for. It was definitely inconvenient to accomodate this disruption and coordinate our schedules for the work in our home TWICE. -While Jill & Scott were very professional and fixed the problem, we never received an apology nor did they offer any discount whatsoever for the initial poor result or inconvenience. In fact, they even charged us for the waterpopping that was only done the 2nd time (we were prepared to pay for this the 1st go, but it wasn't offered). It seems like that could be something they could have thrown in. Or, maybe offered to knock even $50 off or something. -End result is a gorgeous floor. I just don't know if it is worth all of the trouble that we went through, as well as the lack of any apology or real acknowlegment that their crew did not initially do an acceptable job. This, combined with a failure to offer any sort of discount because they, indeed, messed up the first job and inconvenienced us for two weeks, has lead us to the decision to not hire them again should we decide to refinish any additional floors.

Response from Anderson Floor Co
In response to the above complaint. We completed the job on Tuesday, February 22nd. On February 23rd, the Member called that there were some concerns with the Maple floor. I promptly returned the call on February 23rd and scheduled an appointment to view the floor on Friday, February 25th. Upon discussion with the crew prior to meeting with the homeowner, it was explained that they tried to fix an area that had a slight sanding scratch in it from one of the machines. If they didn't care about the job or their work, they would not have tried to fix a minor problem that the owner probably would not have seen anyways. But they did try to fix it to get that perfect floor and unfortunately, those two spots turned out "lighter" in color. The "drips" on the floor were all over and were inherent in the Maple floor; either stains from food (this room was a dining room) or something else. They had some marked on the floor stating it was workmanship, however, Scott and Jill Anderson found dozens more in the floor. Additional stains that they weren't complaining about. Scott Anderson explained to the Member(owner) that there was no way the guys would drip stain all over a final sanded floor and that the stain is very "forgiving" and even if there were stain "drips" on the floor, they would have buffed out before the first coat of finish was applied. He told him that with additional sanding, they may come out but there were no guarantees since we did not know the exact origin of the stains. It ends up that there were still several "spots" in the floor after it was redone. So the stains in the Maple floor were inherent and would not sand out of the wood (the floor is 140 years old). The water popping hid them a little better the second time around, but they were still there after the 2nd sanding. That is why we suggested the water popping to help even out some of the "spots" in the floor. This option was given on the original bid, so the pricing was not a surprise. The Member told us more than once, if it needed to be water popped, he would be happy to pay for that service. Jill Anderson told him that we would be back next week to resand the job and would either Wednesday, March 2nd or Thursday, March 3rd work out good. We were busier earlier in the week. He stated that it would not be a big deal, was not that inconvenient because they were barely home lately with their busy schedules. Jill Anderson double checked the schedule and called Brian the afternoon of Feb. 25th to set up the dates for March 3rd. We also told the Member that we appreciated his patience in letting us resand the floors. They were also told that once again when we sent out our "thank you" card after they paid their bill. So the ONLY REASON we resanded the floor was because of the two repaired areas. There was no stain product dripped on the floor and the workmanship was not sloppy and we told Brian as much. Scott Anderson accompanied the crew (one original guy and one of our other crew members not originally on the job) and does not remember seeing Rebecca on the job the day we came to resand the floor. Our questionnaires that we send out to every customer always comments on how friendly our men are to our customers. These guys have been with us 7 and 8 years respectively, so I have a lot of questionnaires to back up my statement. We are not sure if the guys even saw her and if so they certainly would not have ignored her when welcomed. They did however have to wait over an hour to get into their house even though we had scheduled this March 3rd date a week in advance. Our calls to their cell phones went unanswered and Scott Anderson even called the office to get alternate phone numbers because no one was answering their door or their phones. So the crew was not unhappy that they had to come back but were unhappy that they were made to wait for over an hour on a scheduled appointment. It ended up that we woke up both homeowners; they were still sleeping. As far as comments made on the job, they were comments taken out of context. The guys had an extremely busy schedule that day and were commenting on how they were going to get all of the work done, not commenting about this particular job. They had this job, finishing up a second job on 5th Street and a set of coats on a third job, a lot of work to complete for March 3rd. Those are the comments that the Member overheard, how were they going to get it all done not that this job was an issue and they didn't want to be there.. Scott Anderson has an excellent working relationship with these guys. Our employees come over for Packer games, kids birthday parties and the like. We spend a lot of personal time together and have an open working relationship. We have never had another customer ever comment to this effect about Scott and his crews. And this isn't the first job they had to resand since they have worked for us. Finally, all of our employees are drug-tested and do not work for Anderson under the influence of anything. The lead guy that her comment refers to is seeking full custody of his children and is subjected to drug and alcohol testing every week by the courts! The owners comments about our men being "stoned" is completely OUT OF LINE AND SLANDEROUS. Overall, we are completely SHOCKED by this report considering NO ONE EVER CONTACTED OUR OFFICE first to voice their opinions. I don't think the owners knew we would be reading this report. It's too bad that they feel they need to slander our company despite the excellent customer service and product they received. We are not perfect, but we do stand behind our work 100% and responded to their complaints in a more than timely manner. Jill Anderson Owner/VP

Our floor is beautiful! Scott did an outstanding job of installation and you cannot tell where the old 60-year-old wood ends and the new wood begins. The work crew arrived as scheduled and were careful, polite and professional. Afterward, when we noticed a tiny area that was not varnished, they came the next day and fixed it.

We got 3 quotes for this rather large job all 3 of which had good ratings on Angie's list. But the other 2 were larger companies with higher overhead. Their prices were higher, and they had high-school kids (who didn t know the industry very well) answering phones. It became clear to us that Anderson kept themselves a somewhat smaller company who hired only the best people. Everyone we spoke to, start to finish, was extremely nice, highly professional, and very knowledgeable. Jill came out to give us our estimate. She took her time explained everything well. Then they sent a crew out to do a test area to match our current floor color which it does wonderfully. The job took a few days. We left them with the keys for a weekend, and when we returned, the floors looked incredible. They did an excellent job. They plugged 3 small holes for us, and gave us 2 new thresholds at no charge. There were 2 very minor blemishes a faint footprint in the stain in one room, and a small (3 inch diameter) area where the finish coat didn t cover well in another room. Scott came out promptly to fix it. He re-sanded all of the affected boards and re-stained them. Then he came out the following day to put a finish coat over the entire floors of both affected rooms. He did way more than we expected with no fuss and at no extra charge. He is truly a perfectionist.
Description of Work: They sanded and refinished the hardwood floors in our living room, dining room, foyer, upstairs hall, 3 bedrooms and all closets attached to those rooms. They refinished around radiators, around the banister spindles. They plugged 3 holes small holes in our floors, and gave us 2 new thresholds to match the floors at no extra charge.

They quality was satisfactory. The workers were pleasant and easy to work with, however the workers had pulled out my stove in the kitchen to get to the 220 outlet. They were given the choice to use the outlet in the kitchen or the basement. After pushing the stove back, they called me into the kitchen to show me they had torn the vinyl flooring. They told me to report it to Jill, owner, and when I did she said how do I know it wasn't already torn before my workers got there, I told her because the workers had called me into the room to show me what they had done. At the end of this there was an adjustment made in the cost but I would say after a lot of back and forth conversations on the topic. I wouldn't use them again or recommend them to anyone else.

Response from Anderson Floor Co
OUR RECORDS SHOW THIS WORK WAS DONE AUGUST 23, 2006. IN BOTH OUR TIP SHEET AND THE CONTRACT THAT THE OWNER SIGNED AND AGREED TO, IT INDICATES THAT THE JOB IS TO BE READY FOR THE MEN, INCLUDING ACCESS TO THE 220 PLUG REQUIRED FOR THE BELT SANDER. SO THE STOVE WAS TO BE MOVED PRIOR TO OUR ARRIVAL, THIS WAS CLEARLY EXPLAINED AT THE TIME OF THE BID. SINCE WE HAVE NO MEANS TO MOVE HEAVY APPLIANCES, MY MEN TRIED TO MUSCLE THE STOVE OUT OF THE WAY THEMSELVES TO ACCESS THE ELECTRIC POWER AND KEEP THE JOB ON SCHEDULE. THE UNIT WAS HEAVY AND WAS A TIGHT FIT BETWEEN THE CABINETS AND VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE. THE MEN FELT BAD ABOUT THE INCIDENT, APOLOGIZED TO THE OWNER AND A DISCOUNT WAS GIVEN TO THE OWNER IN GOOD FAITH DESPITE THE CONDITIONS OF THE WRITTEN CONTRACT.

They do really good, quality work. Some of my wood floors had water damage from flooding. The pulled up the rotten boards, laid new ones and refinished the wood. I was very pleased with them and would recommend them. My insurance paid the cost so I cannot comment on their prices, but their service was wonderful.
Description of Work: Replacing damaged wood on my floor from a flood.

We have used them twice over the last four years. They are very conscientious. Jill is the primary contact person and comes out and does the assessment and the estimation. The workers are fine. We have never had any difficulties with them. They really helped the one time when it came to recommendations on how to match some things up. They are very good about cleaning up after themselves and are very professional in their work.
Description of Work: They refinished the hardwood flooring in our dining room, kitchen, and the kitchen eating area. They also did the powder room.

After having a kitchen cabinet removed, I noticed we had wood floors under the vinyl. I contacted Anderson Flooring, and when they pulled up the rest of the vinyl, only a portion was oak, the balance of the floor was pine. Jill from Anderson, quoted me on the supplies, installation, sanding and finishing. Anderson Flooring did a great job. This is the most beautiful floor, my other hardwood floors,in the dining room and living room are now jealous! The quote was re-done and right on.
Description of Work: Removed old pine floor in kitchen and installed, sanded and finished a new 2.25" Red Oak floor.

They did everything that they said they would. I couldn't be happier. It looks great. Only thing I wondered about is they worked while I was gone and by the time I was back they were done. It didn't seem to me like they had enough time to do both coats. I called and spoke to someone who reassured me that both coats were applied and that it takes about 3 hours in between coats. It looks really nice so I assume they did both coats. They were very courteous and polite. They even helped me move something they didn't need to. They also gave me a 10% discount for getting them through Angie's List.
Description of Work: Refinished my hardwood floors.

They were very fair with us from start to almost-the-end. Stacey the sales person was very pleasant and didn't try to sell me on something I didn't need. Jill the owner, who came in for a second estimate was also very helpful in deciding what to do and preparing for the installation.Their prices were very fair compared to some of the competitors. Their workmanship is on the highest level and they even gave a 5% discount for having found them on Angie's List. Their crews showed up on time or early and were very friendly and courteous. Scott, Mark and the rest of the team did just great with everything. The only problem is that they need to learn how not to argue with clients if there is a problem. A good company is measured by how it handles problems, right? Some minor damage was done to our cable TV, air condition control unit and electrical outlet. When I brought those up, I was told that, "This is how it was before we got there". That's really not a good answer, I think. So be it!
Description of Work: We had one area of the house that had carpeting over existing hardwood floors, plus another area which was just carpeting. Anderson floors took away the whole carpet, installed a new floor where there was none and refinished the existing floor, so that both areas had the same color of hardwood and the whole house would look new.

Very well. They installed prior to our moving into our home and got the job done on time. They did give a 10% Angie's list discount when I asked for it. The new floor matched well with the old one (which was 9 years old). They left instructions and cleaning products for care. They do not re-tack carpet, had to hire and pay another outfit to do that. While they removed doors to do the sanding, they did not rehang them. When I asked about that, they pointed out in the contract fine print that removing doors was the owner's responsibility but since they had not been removed when they came to do the job, they removed them. However, since I did not have the capability to rehang them myself, they offered to come and rehang them for me, which they did.
Description of Work: Installed wood flooring in one room to flow into another room with previous wood floor. They "feathered in" the wood for a continuous look, the sanded all wood flooring (previous and new), re-stained and sealed.
