The employee came to the house and said that this company doesn't really replace spring extensions. He's worked here for a month and never done one, but did many at his previous job. I replied that they must, because you can pick them up at the local Home Depot. I couldn't believe that it wasn't an option. He proceed to try to convince me that my only option was to put in a Torsion spring system for about $800 with parts and labor. I asked him to call the office to verify this. He called the office and was told that they DO replace Spring Extensions. He ran back to the office, picked them up, installed them and my final bill was about $260. That's a significant difference. I did not appreciate being cornered into making a decision and told I had no other option. So either the employee didn't know or he was trying to get me to spend unnecessary money for whatever reason. Nothing on my system was broken, no need for a full overhaul. Thank goodness, I had enough of a backbone that I did not get taken advantage of. I'm honestly reviewing this company so no one else does either.
Description of Work: I have spring extensions on my garage door. One of the springs were losing their tension. I looked on Angie's List and Precision had an A overall rating. So, I called and scheduled to have my spring extensions replaced.

I almost thought they weren't going to show up but he did at the end of the time frame given. Thoroughly answered my questions and gave me an approximate cost. The track was bent but didn't need to be replaced after he reworked it. Worked like new when finished.

After the bill was paid we walked out so I could inspect the work. At that point I noticed one of the tracks had detached from the support beam up by the ceiling, the lag screw had ripped out of the support beam . The tech (Mike) replaced the screw and drilled a whole through the metal door track and added a second screw to shore it up. As the bill had already been paid, this was done at no extra charge. I was also given a little discount because I offered to help lift the door instead of waiting to reschedule to have them send out two techs. Honestly, due to the age and condition of the door, I was half expecting him to refuse to work on the door because it is so old and in such bad shape. We both agreed that the door needs to be replaced, but due to financial restraints I just cant afford it right now. Its nice to finally find someone who does good work and does it fairly and timely.
Description of Work: My garage door cables tangled around the pulley and cable on one side, and both cables pulled off the milford pins. The door was too heavy for the opener to lift with out the support of the springs. I had to help the tech lift the door, it is a solid wood door, about 300-400lbs. Then the tech replaced the cables and got the door going up and down again.

OUTSTANDING Quality & Customer Service! Precision Door is the ONLY Garage Door Company in the area that provides the option of factory custom painted garage doors!!! We are building a house and we went with cream colored trim which we love; however to find a garage door that matches exactly it was next to impossible to find and no other garage door company offers the factory custom painted garage door. The closest color to cream out there is Almond; however Almond has a yellowish tone to it and doesn?t match. I was fretting about it as I wanted the garage doors to match the trim on our house. Many of the other garage door companies told me that I could paint the door myself, but they did say they wouldn?t recommend it. I knew that wasn?t an option as garage doors aren?t meant to be painted and knew we would have issues with paint chipping etc. down the road. I then decided to give Precision Door a call as I had heard great things about them. When I called Karen the office manager inquiring about their garage doors and the fact that I was looking for a custom colored garage door she informed me that custom colored garage doors is an option! I was completely relieved as we were going back and forth with the possibility of having to change our trim color to white opposed to cream due to the garage doors. When I called to request a quote, the office manager, Karen was very helpful and asked what we were looking for and our budget, opposed to just shooting us a quote. I then informed Karen of what we wanted and she sent us several pictures of the different styles I had mentioned. Now that I knew we had the color figured out then we needed to figure out what kind of door we wanted to go with and the type of opener. Karen the office manager emailed me a few fact sheets which gave a description of each of my options. I then had a few additional questions and the Owner, Brian actually called me to discuss my options within my budgeted price. WOW ? I was very impressed as Precision Door has quite the team! After figuring out the custom paint color, style of door and type of opener then I was introduced to Stu who came out to our house to take final measurements prior to the order being placed. Stu was outstanding, he was very professional and informative. Stu noticed on our order that we decided to go with the Chain Drive Opener and he highly suggested to us that we spend the little extra money and go with the belt drive instead of the chain drive opener. He said it is much quieter and it is truly worth the extra money. Stu was such a nice person and we could tell that he was just informing us and not pushing us to upgrade so we went with his suggestion. Now that our garage door order was placed with Precision Door our final step was install. Steve was our install guy and he was outstanding. The doors are absolutely beautiful and the custom paint color matches our trim perfectly, we couldn?t be happier! We went with the carriage style door and they completely make the front of our house?..it is amazing how a garage door can either make or break the look of your house! Stu was right the belt drive is so unbelievably quiet it is amazing! Precision Door is off the charts compared to other garage door competitors around the area. I received quotes from 3 other garage door companies around our area and to be honest Precision Door was the highest price; however after speaking with the Owner, Brian and members of his team I quickly found out that other garage door companies quality was nowhere near Precision Door Quality & Service. Precision Door Quality & Customer Service from start to finish is off the charts!! Thank you so much Precision Door Team?.Brian, Karen, Stu & Steve for making our experience so easy, seamless & a beautiful end result! Eric & Krista Thompson Mount Horeb, WI

We couldn't get either car out of the garage because the garage door wouldn't open. Looked like the chain was entirely off-track. Precision informed us that they couldn't get to us for 3-6 hours because they were backed up with appointments, but they made it to us within 3 hours exactly. They technician estimated the time and cost exactly and we were on our way again. Great job! Would definitely use them again!

I called on Christmas Eve day and I was surprised someone could come out to replace my garage door opener that day. The job was done quickly and right the first time. I recommended them to my mother who used them about a month later and also had a good experience. She had to call them back after she hit a sensor and they came out and fixed it for her for free. It happened again and they fixed it again for free. They were very good to her and I really appreciated their honestly and integrity. Highly recommended by me!!

It was a very difficult replacement - garage is over 50 years old and has separated sections within. The young man who did the work said it was the hardest job he ever did. He was not complaining - he found it challenging. We were very happy with the work. A year later the door works great. He came at the stated time and finished the same day. Would definitely recommend.

The workers showed up on time, assessed the situation, informed me of what they were going to do, and did it.
Description of Work: Back in 2007, the large spring for our garage door needed replacement. This work was done by Precision door. However, apparently the spring installed was not exactly the right size, so over time the cables that hold the weight of the door began to slip and cause problems with the proper opening and closing of the door. Two repairmen from Precision came out and replaced the spring (and cables); they were very apologetic about the work not having been done correctly the first time (even though they were not to blame).

Our garage door periodically wouldn't open or close all the way and we would have to either start with the garage door all the way up or all the way down several times before it would work. Precision Overhead Garage Door Service came out and indicated all the rollers needed to be replaced. We replaced them. That didn't solve the problem. We called again; Precision Overhead Garage came out again. The service person didn't know what was wrong and ended up changing sensitivities on the opener. He said if that didn't work, we would need to get a new garage door opener for which Precision Overhead Garage would charge us $500 more. Our door still doesn't work.

Basically the service person fixed what needed fixing; did not try to sell me on service/materials that were not needed; and gave suggestions for continued maintenance. I cannot remember or even approximate the cost, though at the time it did not seem unreasonable.
Description of Work: Service person fixed non-functioning automatic door opener and installed new cables in some areas. Technician lubricated all areas and suggested a schedule of lubrication that I could do in future. He also installed some new rollers; but did not push to install where not needed.

Repairman said it was the "trickiest door" he had ever worked on. It took extra time b'cuz garage has a small storage room at front where door opens. He had to walk from door to backroom to connect unit parts. did a great job/ found it to be a challenge rather than problem.

I returned from work late in the evening tio find that one of the lifting springs on my overhead garage door was broken. It was impossible to open the door (at least without help from an olympic weightlifter, and none were available). I called the company and, after finding out the extra charge for late-night service, elected instead to set up an appointment for the next afternoon for the service person to inspect and repair the garage door springs. The company sent an e-mail in advance to confirm the appointment and provide a thumbnail mugshot photo of what the service people look like. (This is a good touch, although the service person assigned did not have a mugshot posted.) The service person arrived on time (10 minutes early) and inspected the garage door. He recommended replacing both springs (the unbroken one had been replaced perhaps 8 years ago), not just the one that was broken, and the entire set of rollers that move the garage door on its tracks. I was a bit put off by the extra sales pitch, which effectively tripled the materials cost of the job, and had the service person tried to add any more to it, I probably would have balked at having this company provide the service. However, the service person said he would take the trip charge ($49) off of the bill (which he did), and so I went ahead with the job rather than getting the usual set of three estimates I get for jobs. I was not pressured otherwise, and time was of the essence so I could put my car into the garage instead of parking it on the street. The job was completed professionally and within 30-45 minutes. The garage door opens and closes smoothly, and a little moreso than before the repairs were done. I'll assume that the new rollers helped that, but since I am not an expert in these matters, I'll just have to let my optimism rule my perception.

They seemed real professional when they gave me a quote. I was not entirely happy with the installation of the door. They had told me that two people would come to install it but they sent just one guy late in the night. The door was not running smoothly on the tracks and was shaking a little bit. He had to come back and readjust it. They should try and get a little more information upfront and make sure that everything is clear about the time and when he is actually going to be doing the installing.

The techs arrived on time and were very professional. The tech pointed out all of the worn areas of the garage door and really tried to sell me on replacing more than just the gear. I felt a little pressured to replace the other and quot;worn outand quot; parts. I decided to have just the gear replaced. They did this efficiently but didn't clean up the mess from the worn part; the garage floor needs to be cleaned anyway, but I felt like they should have cleaned up their mess. There is no warranty on the part. Overall, I believe they are overpriced and try to sell more than what you really need. I probably could have gone to a Home Depot or Menards and purchased an entire garage door opener for what it cost to have one gear replaced. 8/12/2011. Update: the gear sprocket broke in the door opener. I called the company back and basically got an I told you so. I called a locally owned company, recommended on Angie's List. Justin showed up on time and was very professional. He knew what was wrong even before he took anything apart. The previous technician with Precision did not grease the sprocket. The teeth were sheared off. Justin did not try to sell me any other parts. He advised me that the rollers may need to be replaced in 4 or 5 years. He greased everything to reduce the squeaking of the door. He then swept out my garage. The price for the part was almost half of what I paid Precision. Total cost was about $50.00 less. The sprocket is also warranted for one year. Precision would not offer me a warranty. Also, the technicians work on commission at Precision. Possible motivation to sell you more than you really need. In my opinion, I wouldn't ever recommend this company again. Update 12/26/2011. I was contacted by Angie's list to make sure my report was for the company I stated because Precision Door has no record of doing business with me. I have my receipt and the broken part. I've spoken with their president before and I'm not looking forward to his call back as he isn't a very customer oriented person (my opinion). I feel that this is an attempt from them to get my review removed. I stand by everything I said and can prove it!

Our garage door disintegrated and it was at 7 in the evening and I had to leave. I had my son call and he found them online and the technician came right out and rebuilt the door on the spot. He did nice work for me and he obviously knew his work. They came on a moments notice outside of business hours and apparently that is one of their things. The technician had a new model truck which was fully equipped and it had a lot of custom advertizing on it. He was prepared to do anything and also had the springs, cables and everything needed. The technician was very good and I was pleased with the work. I would definitely recommend them to others. I thought their pricing was on the higher side, but the quality of their work was good. The technician came when he said he would and it was also his wedding anniversary. He explained what he was doing as he went along and he took the time to talk to me. They also have a lifetime guarantee on their work and I also asked him to put a sticker on the door, so I can call him if ever needed. He recommended that the service be done every 3 years and it only costs $50, and I think he gave me some good advice on that as well.

The spring broke at about 7PM and the repairman came at about 10AM the next morning. I was given an estimate of about $900, but since I did not have the time to get more than one estimate and I could not get the car out of the garage, I had him do it. It only took about 1.5 hours to repair the entire door. The repair was done quickly and the repairman was excellent; but $925 for 1.5 hours work and three pieces of metal seemed extremely expensive.
Description of Work: One spring was broken but repairman claimed that the system was old and he did not have or could not get a replacement. Therefore he had to replace both springs. The new springs did not fit the old supporting rod so that had to be replaced as well. He also replaced wheel runners on doors.
