Urban Tree Management

We didn't end up hiring this company.

The experience turned out just fine. They came on schedule, they gave me an estimate quickly, they cleaned everything up, and they didn't make a mess. They got the job done, and got out quickly. They were a little expensive.

Recently, a moving truck inadvertently hit a birch tree in my front yard. The damage was significant, and I needed an arborist to come take a look at it. I hired Evan last fall to trim some trees, so I figured he'd be a good person to contact. I was not disappointed. Evan came out the day I called him and assessed the damage. He gave me some options going forward and provided me with a replacement value for the tree in the event that we had to remove it completely. Ultimately, we decided to remove the damaged portion of the tree and touch base next spring regarding a new planting if the remaining stems of the tree didn't do well. Throughout the process, I found Evan to be very knowledgeable, responsive, and reasonable in price. I highly recommend him and plan on using his services again in the future.

Evan Slocum is a good, conscientious guy. He suggested the box elder removal because it was interfering with another tree. That was a good catch because I hadn't really noticed it. He showed up when he said he would (but about 2 hours early) and cleaned and removed all the tree parts that I wanted taken away. Whether the price is an "A" or "B" price I cannot say even though I gave him a B on it. I am not familiar enough with going rates to assess how this one fares. And the actual price quote was $425. I had already paid $99 for an Angie's coupon worth $200. I would suggest to Evan, should he read this review, that showing up early is often no better than showing up late, especially for us old retirees. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes early, call ahead to make sure your client is ready for your arrival. Also, one of our aspens had not leafed out yet on May 8, even though the other two had. Evan thought the tree was dead and sent me a price quote for its removal. However, shortly after that the tree did leaf out and is now in full bloom and obvious good health. So this is a lesson to be learned, too: be careful with quick, possibly premature judgments. Nov. 2014: I have modified this review to lower some of my grades for this provider. Two things prompt this: I have determined that Urban Tree Alliance's pricing quotes for tree trimming that I did not have done were way too high. I ended up having another tree trimming company do about the same work for less than half the price that Evan quoted. Second, the stump of the box elder sprouted 50 or more suckers over the summer, some as thick as 1/2 inch, and looked like an ugly shrub in my back yard. I believe Evan should have either treated the stump to prevent this or advised me of what to expect if the stump was not either ground out or treated.

Evan came by, checked out what I wanted done - even said I didn't need some branches trimmed that I thought needed trimming. He e mailed me a quote, I accepted and we set up a time. He and his helper were very prompt the morning we had agreed upon. His helper cleaned up after the cutting and they ground up the branches for take away. I was very satisfied with the work they did.

Evan and his team did a great job. Every encounter with him has been terrific. The job was well done and his follow-up has been really excellent.

Urban Tree Alliance did a great job. Evan did a fantastic job communicating when the job would be completed and was very clear with how they would grind the stumps and what would be left behind. He went above and beyond to keep me informed on the status of my project. Definitely will be using them again!

He was super nice and very knowledgeable. He was there about a half hour. I think it's a cool concept for a company because it's non-profit. It sounds like he wants to make the environment a better place and educate his customers. He was right on time and seemed very knowledgeable and nice.

All aspects of service were performed extremely well and as originally scheduled with no delays. Evan is very knowledgeable about tree diseases and recommended replacements. He was very timely in responding to any questions. No heavy equipment was used so there was no damage to lawn. All brush and debris were thoroughly cleaned up and removed. We will definitely use Urban Tree Alliance for any future work.

We need 3 large trees trimmed and 2 smaller trees trimmed, 2 stumps ground up and 2 trees planted. We have selected to only have the stump grinding completed at this time but we were very satisfied with the professionalism and suggestions provided and will use this service in the future to complete the remainder of the work. He walked us through the best trees to plant and gave us a list to choose from. We were very happy working with Evan.

Two men thinned out two overgrown trees. Added a support to one branch to prevent breaking off. Thoroughly cleaned up fallen branches, Very professional.

I was extremely impressed with Evan's detail oriented approach to his work. He respectfully listened to my concerns regarding the pruning of my trees and was mindful of this in his pruning process. I will be having him return this spring for additional follow up of my redbud tree. I trust his judgement.

Evan and his helper arrived promptly, got right to work, skillfully removed the offending branches, and carefully cleaned up.

They did a nice job. There were additional charges beyond the big deal amount, we ended up having quite a bit of work done. It was like $750 in addition to the big deal purchase. They seemed very knowledgeable about pruning trees, about the health of the trees and about keeping the safe distance from the house. It felt like they knew what they were doing. They weren't super punctual but they didn't take for ever. I didn't really care. It didn't matter when they came.

I am pleased with the work that Urban Tree Alliance did for me. He is very knowledgable about all the trees and shrubs in my yard, and I have asked him to come back this spring for additional pruning. Organization, timeliness, and clean up were all excellent.

Wonderful service, we would certainly use them again! They really know a lot about different kinds of trees and what is best for them. He really listened to what we needed and offered suggestions as to how best trim the trees as well as what was best for the future growth of them. We have had other tree services in the past from other vendors that did not really know what they were doing. Urban Tree Alliance was able to show what a great tree trimming service can do! We were thrilled with how prompt and professional they were and their tree care knowledge. Their cost was very reasonable and the clean up was wonderful also. Their estimates were exactly what they charged and they were very timely. We highly recommend Urban Tree Alliance!!

Everything was uneventful just how I like it. The job was done and the price seemed fair.

Evan and his team removed several trees from our wooded lot that had been badly neglected by the previous owners, including a large hazardous red oak that was hanging over the house. They cleaned up really well and chipped a lot of the wood so that we could use it for mulch on the garden. |We highly recommend Urban Tree Alliance and will be using them again in the Spring to do some more work on our property.

Evan Slocum seems to know everything about trees. He can identify every plant on our property. When he cuts a branch, he knows how it will affect the tree and whether it will heal and how the process will be. He's a total professional. His assistant was an advanced student who was working on identifying diseases of trees. Very nice, down-to-earth guys, yet all business. | |Our backyard has been in abominable shape, everything overgrown, damaged by weather and then neglected. Evan was nonjudgmental as he gave us advice about what we could do. We had problems with evergreen tree branches over sidewalks in the front, storm-damaged arbor vitae on the side of the house, and a messy monster willow tree in the backyard that hangs over the neighbor's yard. The Urban Tree Alliance men were able to cut back all the problem branches, yet they left us with enough to keep our sense of privacy. Not an easy balance, but they did this perfectly. A month later, I'm very, very happy with the new sense of open air around our house. | |It cost a lot, but you get what you pay for. Again, these guys were very professional and extremely nonjudgmental about the junk in the backyard and the obvious neglect. We're saving up for more in the spring. Now that we know these guys, we are going to trust them to get the job done cleanly, quickly, professionally, and all with a very friendly manner. Well done, guys.

There was a 6 feet fence by the maple tree; they removed all branches WITHOUT damaging the fence (unlike prior contact with Jim's Tree Service who broke prior fence and refused to replace broken fence). I am planning to use Urban Tree Alliance this spring for planting of new trees in backyard. Both men were true professionals and very courteous. Fantastic job!
