Everyone that Harker has sent has been awesome. They all understand the system and the problems with it. I was so pleased with a technician who explained the intake pipes and what the problem was with the lattice house I built around them. They are so great and I would even give them a key, I love them so much.

Prompt, efficient, answered all questions.

The customer service rep (Steve Heiar) was punctual, thorough, and affable at our first meeting, and he took the time needed to evaluate my situation and needs - and then explain his recommendations. He provided quotes on both Carrier and Trane alternatives, and offered useful comparisons and contrasts. We also discussed several air purifier alternatives (AprilAire), one of which I purchased. His bids were not the lowest of the three I obtained, but given his firm's operating history (founded 1948 or thereabouts), and given recommendations from two friends who had purchased furnaces from Harker within the last five years, I decided that the difference in bids was not that important. All in all, I am pleased with the purchase transaction, with the professionalism of the installation, and with Steve's follow up (he stopped to check on the installation while it was in process (I was home for the day and we chatted)) and the week after (to send Focus on Energy rebate paperwork). I'd absolutely recommend Harker for anyone needing a new furnace and air purifier.

HOW DID IT GO? It took me a while to complete the project, and at my wife's urging, for safety's sake, I called him to ask him to inspect my work, since it involved my first experience with the installation of natural gas lines. Kevin came out the following morning and did a thorough inspection of my work along with a running narrative of tips, corrections, and praise. I then asked him how much I owed and he said I didn't owe anything. I'm not sure of all the reasons, but it seemed he felt a professional responsibility. Harker Heating comes highly recommended.

We have used them in the past and they do a good job. They respond well and explain anything that needs to be done.

Harker has been servicing my a/c and furnace for three years. Five weeks ago the a/c went out. The technician, Jake, refilled the freon and checked the furnace for leaks (there weren't any). The a/c went out again this past weekend - same circumstances (furnace/a/c running but no cold air, ice forming around the pipes on the furnace). I asked them to send somebody and said I didn't expect to be billed for a service call since the same exact problem had recurred. The woman who answered the phone said it wasn't her decision and that labor was only guaranteed for 30 days but that she'd look into it. They did send my regular technician, Mark. Mark discovered major leaks in the a/c - Jake hadn't checked for them on the actual a/c unit outside. I can either replace expensive parts or the whole a/c system in the spring, but Mark refilled the refrigerant and said it should get us through the rest of the season. I was not charged for the call or the refrigerant. Mark has done great work for us. The other technicians have been good but seem to miss things. For example, a switch on the furnace needed to be replaced last winter but I ended up having to call Harker again a month later to replace a hose that had been removed to do the job - I don't understand why he didn't point out at the time that the hose was worn and in need of replacement. It would've saved us another service call. Then again, Mark used a spare hose attached to the furnace for an alternate mount rather than charging us for a new hose.

It was quite hot then, so we were grateful that they were able to come on short notice. After the technician installed the kit and the compressor started, he grinned and said, "Isn't that the sweetest sound you've ever heard?".

We contacted three contractors and Harker was the only one that would come out and talk us through the options. Steve - their sales rep - took the time to carefully explain our options. We did not feel he was trying to sell us the most expensive units - but instead the ones that would best serve our needs. When we came back and asked for a better deal, they were willing to negotiate. When we came back and asked to move the installation date to an earlier day, they were able to accommodate us. The installation team was a great group of fellows and the lead guy took the time to explain ongoing maintenance and how to use the new thermostat. Again, they did not try to sell intensive servicing options, but instead seemed to give advice to optimize longevity and costs. All in all, we were exceptionally pleased with their service and will be switching our annual maintenance to them as well.

Steve the sales rep had originally given us a quote in November 2008. We requested a second quote in April. He remembered us and our furnace. He was professional and did not exert any high sales pressure. He explained the efficiency of the furnace and explained the tax incentives for using a high efficiency furnace. They installed the furnace, humidifier, thermostat and furnace less than 1 week later. The installers were punctual, polite and answered our questions. When they were removing the furnace from the basement, a lot of fluid and dirt leaked out onto the main floor. Also, the installers did not wear shoe covers. The dirt and fluid was not cleaned up. Maybe they did not see it? A few days later we discovered that the fan would not work on manual mode, only on auto. We requested a service call. They responded the same day and fixed the problem (wiring problem) easily and without any extra charge. Overall we were satisfied with the quality of the equipment, price, interactions, installation and repair. We also were pleased that we could pay by credit card without any extra fees.

The experience went well. The sales rep. was nice and really seemed like they wanted my business. We had one other company quote the job and he did not act like he wanted my business. I asked a lot of questions and they were always very good about calling back and answering them.

The end result was OK but not what we wanted, and not what we had been led to believe we were getting. Unfortunately, the workers did not stop and tell us how it would not match our expectations until the house was already ripped apart. The main benefit of such a system is that the ducts are snaked through walls and ceilings, and this is what we had been led to believe would happen. In fact most went through our closets from the unit in the crawl space attic down to the first floor, where they were covered with metal races. We just finished doing California closets in all of our closets, and to put it mildly the ductwork in them did not match. It also reduced space and made parts unusable. One of the workers had been with the company for a while, the other was day-one fresh, which was unsettling. They were working two jobs simultaneously, slowing down ours considerably. We had a newborn and no AC, so we were not so happy. They failed to schedule electrical subcontractors to match their project plan, which is not surprising since they had no project plan. In summary, I think you should take this review seriously since this is apparently the highest rated hvac contractor on Angie's List, but we spent a multiple of dollars of other reviewers with Harker and would never use them again. We withheld 50% of the payment for almost a year, and NOBODY called to ask why, which should tell you something, they just didn't care about our satisfaction.

They showed up on the day we had the appointment although the service technician was late by about 15 minutes because of a flat tire. They did call us at home to let us know that he was going to be late so that was great. He showed up and performed the work quickly. However, he did track in a little dirt from his shoes into the house. A relatively minor thing, but something I noticed. The work was performed professionally. The service technician did try to sell me a service contract, but I said no thank you. The price for the work seems a little high, but I believe the quality is there.

Harker did a professional job from start to finish. I obtained quotes from several companies: Harker's sales rep, Grant Backey, spec'd a modest system that I believe best matched the needs of the house. After deciding to go with Harker, they were able to install the system within a few days. The installers, Dave & Steve, arrived at the appointed time and got right to work. I had a specific idea on how I wanted the wiring & tubing routed and they accommodated my requests without any problems. They removed all of the old equipment and waste and left a clean worksite.

I'm very happy with their overall service and professionalism. Would readily recommend them to friends.

Grant Backey (Sales) was very straight forward and helpful. Two installers came on time and took 5 hrs. to replace old furnace w/ new unit. Crew was neat and clean. Union workers installed unit. Had a question on thermostat after installation. Grant assured me that the thermostat did not need to be changed out for a 3 speed unit. I contacted the Carrier company who responded by letter 2 days later. The question satisfied me because it included product stat sheets which verified that my existing thermostat worked fine w/the new unit. The unit is so quiet you can't tell if it is running. It was a excellent experience for us.

Dispatcher/Scheduling person was very familiar with need to check our furnace model for a defect related to a heat exchanger that we wanted inspected. Dispatcher explained manufacturers policy and warranty and what basics of the inspection. Tech was on time, knowledgeable and friendly, and explained what he was checking and what to watch for with our system. He tested system through a complete cycle after reassembly before leaving. Flat rate visit. No hidden charges.

A bit of an overwhelming sales pitch, but very informative. They were most experienced of the 6 contractors we solicited. Crews that have a red truck or van have a minimum of 2000 hours combined service with the company. (In contrast, NATE certification merely requires 100 hours). 30 employees in the company. Been around for over 50 years. Carry both Carrier and Trane. This company is only one of four in the state that is allowed by the two companies to carry both lines, mainly because of their quality of service and their commitment to excellence. They are one of the top 75 Carrier dealers in the country. VERY Knowledgeable. Provided seven different options for pricing: Crew was efficient and did excellent work. Took approx. 6 hours from start to finish and took the time to explain all aspects of the system and provided all manuals. Had to track down a paid invoice for our rebates but they provided it instantly.

I called them because our unit went out and it was a very cold time of the year. We needed it fixed as soon as possible. This company was able to come right out, give me an estimate, and then do the work the same day. Their responsiveness my situation was incredible.

It took them four days before they could set up an appointment with me. I had done research on what I needed for my house and they wanted to do all of this extra work and charge me more. My gas company and none of the other companies that I received estimates from said that I needed that done. I didn't think they were very honest with me.

The work was very good and done professionally in one day. Everything was tidy and well done. I felt the price was very good, and the workmanship as well with one exception. The only complaint I have is that they incorrectly hooked up our existing humidifier, which of course, they may not have had documentation for. I found the instructions and managed to hook it up myself.
