Services we offer
We offer services in interior and exterior painting, drywall and plaster repair and installation, tile installation, mold removal and clean-up, pressure washing, basement waterproofing, carpentry, handyman services and general remodeling.
The work was started and was going really well. After the first few days he would work for a day and then disappear for 3-4 days, show up and work half a day and disappear for another few days, etc. He would always use weather as an excuse for not showing up. We also have a wrought iron "support" rail for the roof which he had removed because they were replacing the wood underneath it. When he went to reinstall it the rail wouldn't fit any longer so he had to cut it to make it fit. From across the street the house looks fantastic but when you get nearer to it you can see some errors. The biggest one is that the gutters aren't pitched properly so the water doesn't drain as it should and just sits in the gutter. When I brought this up to him, he said that it wasn't his problem because it was a sub-contractor that he used. I explained that he was the contractor of record and it was up to him to fix it. I also reminded him that he told me the gutter guy was his future son-in-law so that was family, not a sub-contractor. After this interaction, things started to go downhill even faster. After a few terse phone conversations and face-to-face interactions I have decided that I am no longer comfortable having him on my property and wish to end our contract where it stands. In one of these interactions he was adamant that I pay him in cash, which I found to be a bit suspicious and refused to do. We have currently paid approximately $7500 of the total $8000 that was initially contracted and wish to leave it there. UPDATE AS OF 7/24/15: At this point, we have had two different contractors out to the house to review the work and provide estimates. Both have given estimates of over $12,000 to repair the work that was done by Mudslingers. I would not recommend this provider.
Description of Work: We initially contracted him to paint the outside of our house, including trim, replace gutters on the house and our garage. He was also to caulk as needed.

Arrived at appointed time to give me an estimate. I had originally called just to request skincoating, but when he was there he said they could paint it too. I explained my painter did not want to do the work because it was a little tricky, with some extra finishing techniques. We watched the how-to video from the paint manufacturer and he felt confident that they could do the work. We agreed on a price. The skincoating was completed over the course of 4 days, allowing drying time. It looked fine...not perfect, but fine. He said he was going to match the finish on the rest of the walls in my house, but there is MUCH more sand, most likely to hide the imperfections. Other than that it is pretty good for the most part. Then Saturday arrived and it was the day to paint. They were to arrive at 10 and they did indeed arrive at 10:15. I asked the son, who was doing the work, if he had seen the video and read the instructions on how to apply the paint. He replied that his dad had gone over everything with him. I left the house at 10:50 and they were just about to begin painting the first coat. At 12:20 I received a message saying that the second coat was not going on very well. (The textured finish coat.) I replied that there was supposed to be a minimum of two hours dry time between coats. He said that they had waited the designated time. I replied that was impossible because they had not yet begun a little over an hour earlier. They agreed to come back the next day to finish. The next morning, I showed the son the directions, where it clearly said that two base coats were needed for lighter colors. So they applied another base coat, waited two hours, and painted the finish. To say it was sloppy is a compliment. The ceiling color was on the walls, the wall color was on the ceiling, and there were areas of no paint whatsoever. On top of that, the front of my vanity had several deep scratches that were not there before. They claim, of course, that they did not do the damage and it was already there. The vanity had been installed, brand new, in December, and there were no scratches, but I chose not to argue with them. The painter who was doing the rest of my interior touched up the work they had done, and it is acceptable at this point. My final bill was somewhat higher than agreed upon, due to the extra coat, I imagine, but at that point I just wanted them gone so I did not quibble. In summary, the dry wall work was fine...I would not have them paint anything, however. The texture finish may have been somewhat challenging, but that does not explain totally missing areas without paint at all, and carelessness and sloppy work. Oh, and he blamed me for "that wasn't as easy as you made it out to be" when he had watched the video and read the instructions himself. I am not a professional...I certainly did not portray it as difficult or hard, just showed him the how-to instructions.

We were called to come look at a job to skim coat the walls in the bathroom that another contractor had botched up, and there painter tried to do this faux finish painting over it and wasn't right . When she found out we also do painting, she had asked me when i came to look at the job if I'd be able to help her out with painting she wanted,so it would be done for her husband when he got back in town. I explained to her that the painting she wanted doesn't always come out the way its shown, but that I'd give it a shot. Prior to starting my work the floors were covered with rosen paper, covered the toilet and vanity with plastic then a drop cloth, So I know for sure the scratches weren't from us. [three other contractors were in there before me]. the skim coat and sand texture were done and looked great. So next step was to do the faux finish she wanted which needed to be done in to steps, we us fans to help drying ,so we really didn't need to wait the full two hours ,which when see had scene we were putting on second coat before the two hours are up.She had become very hostile! telling me I don't know what I'm doing. I tried to explain to her we have the fan going to help dry time, she was very upset ,so I told her I'd come back tomorrow and try painting it again. which I did and it looked good to me , but she wasn't happy the way the corners looked , she said they looked like they were missed . I tried to explain that the sponge you can't get in the corners real good ,she wasn't hearing that so I tried fixing it and it got on the ceiling. I tried my best to make sure that every customer is happy, but she wasn't happy with anything we tried to do.

Chris came to my house on a Tuesday and I walked him through every crack and repair that I needed done. He took measurements and seemed very professional. I also asked him to quote a price to paint all the walls and ceilings in the house from top to bottom. At the end he said he would email me a quote within a few days and we could go from there. A week later I called and he said he "texted" me the quote and was unable to email it. I found that he had my number incorrectly written down and he proceeded to text me two sets of prices, one for the drywall and one for the painting. First of all what professional company opts to TEXT me a price for having work done. $2500 for drywall repairs and $3300! for painting This threw me a bit but after some consideration I decided to say yes that I would like him to do the drywall work. He said he needed to talk to his son and would contact me the next day. Today he calls and said he wanted to meet me at the house so he could walk through the house again this time with his son and get a better idea of what needed to be done. I asked "didn't we do this when you did the quote"? and he says that his $2500 estimate didn't include patching any of the cracks or some of the other work we talked about, only included fixing the kitchen, and chimney work. I proceeded to tell him heck no and hung up the phone. I do NOT recommend using this guy as he does a bait and switch, quotes you one price then says something different when its time to draft a contract. What a joke!

I was contacted by some one else other then person making this report out ,which isn't right because he was not there so how does he know what happend. I was contacted by a [removed member name], which wanted a price to repair some work he had started and wasn't doing it wrong, I hate to say. He had a kitchen and bedroom that he drywalled and tried to do the mudding and wasn't happy with the way it was lookin. He also had on second floor around the chimney on the ceiling that needed repair. This what he needed for the first price , then he wanted a price to go thru first and second floors and repair any cracks and painted. James called me a week later and I told him that I was sorry for not calling him back sooner but had been very busy . I gave him the prices he had asked for , and called back a day or so later wanting to go with us to do the new drywall work. I had asked him if I could bring my son thru to show him the work needed . He got upset about that which was weird. then he got upset when he found out that all the mudding of both quotes weren't be done for cheaper . I do believe he was confused on the mudding work and would have tried to work with him but he was too hostile about it.

They were very responsive and helpful even after things got complicated. . First, they promptly got us a quote to repair the demage and helped us get the insurance claim submitted and processed in record time. They then began work as scheduled, but the upstaairs unit developed another leak and we had to stop work and wait for that leak to be repaired and some ancellary work completed before we could proceed. They haandled this delay very smoothly and maintained good contact with us. We had to wait for the upstairs owner to get hsi wowrk done - and there were delays with that work. We let them know when it was finally finished and they rescheduled us very efficiently The work was done very well, aand they kept the entire area clean. We always knew when to expect them and they were always on time. The workmen were very professional, and Mr. Halverson did regular inspections and partcipated in some of the work. Everything was done to our complete satisfaction. We had used them before for a similar incident and had been very pleased then. We would recommen them without reservation.

The owner, Chris Halverson, and his workers Jeff and Brandon were so nice and polite. They did a great job and always cleaned up after each work day. I was telling the neighbors about him. The house now looks so beautiful and fresh. It was such a pleasure to work with him. He always kept us up to date with what was going to happen and how long it might take. He gets a perfect score from me and I highly recommend him. I thought that his price was very fair. Sincerely, Wanda and Sybille Froehlich

Chris, Jeff and Brandon spent about a month at our house hanging drywall, tapping, mudding, sanding, texturizing and painting a new bedroom and bathroom in our basement. Everyone was very polite, courteous and helpful. Even when we (or they) noticed blemishes, they quickly took care of them. Unfortunately one of the walls in the bathroom wasn?t straight, but they came back, pulled it out and shimmed it for us. Their painting skills are precise! Even though we felt they were expensive, we got what we needed and will definitely use them again when we finish off the rest of our basement.

Chris was very thorough as we discovered some mold after the demolition was done. Chris took care of that also which added extra time to the job as he wanted it to be treated multiple times before putting the drywall back up. When we wanted some more sanding done Chris did not hesitate to accommodate us and the outcome was great. Chris also did the painting and made sure we were happy before collecting the final payment on the job. I will be using Chris in the future for an insulation project.

I would not recommend Mudslingers. My customer service experience has not been good. Unless you are willing to overpay for slow work and poor treatment, I would not use Mudslingers. Some of the many issues were tardiness, work being done by young kids (even though one was given the impression that the work would be done by an older more experienced drywaller), overpaying (roughly $150.00 an hour, which Mudslinger?s claimed was reasonable), delays to repair their completed work (supposedly guaranteed), etc. After delaying for a month, there is further delay to the warranty work of an additional 2 months. This is for repairs that were needed only 2 days after the original job was completed. Suffice it to say that my experience with Mudslingers was not good and I would not use them again. To give you an idea as to Mudslinger?s customer service mind set, I was told ?do you expect us to delay our new customers for you?? Mudslingers seems to only care about new customers, not their already established customers and any necessary follow-up work. This is a poor customer service policy. Now I will be forced to pay a second company to redo the warranty work that Mudslingers has consistently delayed. UPDATE Oct. 8, 2014: I felt I must reply to Mudslingers response, seeing that they are living up to their name, slinging mud and lies about anyone who disagrees with them. Please note their responses were vague to my claims, but were very pointed when they made personal attacks on me. They claimed I was a racist. Never in my entire life have I been accused of being a racist. Obviously, this can be confirmed by all who know me. But better yet, ask Mudslingers to see their 2 employees plus their owner. They are all white. And guess what, I am also white. So how can one be a racist when all parties involved are white? And then they claim I told them "they will be sorry" as if I threatened them. The two workers are in their mid-twenties, the father mid to late forties with tattoos all over his body. I am 64 years old. How could I possibly threaten them? I think this should give one a sense of who and what they are dealing with. Mudslingers is plain and simple, dishonest and untrustworthy. Please do not make the same mistake that I did. Do not read only the 2014 reviews on Mudslingers. Read all the reviews on Mudslingers and I think you will see a pattern. Just beware or you might suffer the same fate as me. Now to his pointed replies: 1) His workers - Nice boys and very courteous. No problem with them. Father was rarely on site and never did one second of work. 2) Late - Almost every day and rarely called ahead. Once to be exact. 3) Contract - Yes, I signed it as it seemed reasonable at the time as scaffolding needed to be built. Guess what? They never used scaffolding as the owner never put in an order with Home Depot. Therefore, they had to stretch over a railing to do the work. This makes me question how long their work will last, as it was not handled professionally. Again, based upon their hours worked, I paid $150.00 an hour and when I questioned the owner about this he claimed it was reasonable. I never would have agreed to pay that amount if I knew they would not be using scaffolding. 4) Warranty - I called about 4 days after they left saying that some of the work they did was already coming apart. Owner said he would get back to me. After two weeks, he called and left a message and said he would be doing the repairs shortly. After another two weeks (one month total) I called Mudslinger's. Owner said they were too busy and they would get back to me in 2 to 3 months. Not days, weeks, but months. That is when I decided my money was gone and I no longer wanted Mudslinger's in my house. 5) Credit - After all the above, he offers me a $200.00 credit on future work. How crazy is that and speaks volumes about this owner. 6) Personal Attacks - Already addressed above. But note that by making these absurd claims, he was then able to wash his hands of any warranty work. Again, the owner is showing his true colors. Lastly, I now have another Angie's list service provider in my home and things are going wonderfully.

First of all I have two excellent employees that have been with the company for almost five years one of which is my son, who runs things when I'm not on site. They both are excellent worker that take there time to do thing the right way, not just to rush a job and collect a pay check. They are very meticulous in there work, if it takes us longer to do a job the customer don't pay anything extra. He's the one that signed the contract so he knew before hand how much it would cost. Yes we may have been late once or twice, I try to be on time but if we are running late I will call the customer to make them aware. We are also on smaller jobs like this one we will work on two jobs so yes things do come up, but not once did we not call. We were willing to come out and do the warranty work, but he wanted us to stop working on the job we were doing at the time to do his repair, which I told him I couldn't do that , I would have to schedule a date for him. He became very hostel, and began cursing at me. I tried to explain that we couldn't come right away ! He then began to threaten me with angie's list and putting on report! We try to keep every customer happy but obviously we can't keep everyone happy. there was no making him happy , but I did give him a Two hundred dollars discount on future work. After I told my son about this report from [member name removed] ,he told me that [member name removed] was very disrespectful to my employees telling them that they weren't professionals ,but at the same time wanted them to do there best or they would be sorry. He was also very racist with the one employee. I was very upset to hear this. no-one should be talked to like that. I'm sorry for the complaint , but will no long work for some one like that again.

This is our first time using the company. The service is going a little slower than expected. It was supposed to be a 4 day job and it is going into many more days now. I am disappointed it is taking so long. The technician is very friendly and nice. He is not great at being on time and having the right supplies for the job, however. The experience was positive. The company owner, Chris was very knowledgeable about drywall repair and was able to assess how long the job would take and how much it would cost. His son and another worker did the actual repair which required 3 visits to the house to allow for thorough drying between layers of mud, etc. and the final painting. The work was expertly performed, there is no sign of the previous damage. It can be a very messy process but the guys tented the area to keep dust out of the vicinity and vacuumed after the work was completed. They were neat and polite. I would use them again.

Chris was the only drywall contractor to return my call. He quickly gave us a free estimate and thoroughly explained what would be done. We scheduled the service and gave a down payment to coverthe cost of materials. He and his team were couteous and professional at all times. Chris was very conscientious. Quality work is top priority. When small bubbles appeared as the joint compound dried, Chris purchased a different formulation and quickly resolved the problem. Once the painting was done we could not tell the difference between the original and replacement sections. Literally, a flawless result. During the days when each layer of mud was drying we would sometimes hear loud popping noises in one of the rooms. Chris identified the problem (loosening of an original section of wall that was not being replaced) and resolved it with a few well placed drywall screws and mud. The crew did an excellent job, doing extra work to give us a top notch result while staying on budget. Mud Slingers will get any additional drywall work we may need in the future.

Description of Work: They repaired two walls for me that another contractor had totally botched.

4 hour drywall repair package purchased. Drywall repair took 2 hours and was done well. Provider offered to come back to make up the 2 hours with painting the drywall and also LR ceiling. In this process he moved a heavy cabinet I specified must not be moved as it would scratch the hardwood floors. The floors were deeply scratched necessitating a $1300 sanding and refinishing project for my floors.

Response from Mudslingers
We did have to paint her family room ceiling we could have just done what she bought the coupon for, but I'm an honest person. She had a few hrs left and she want it painted so I told her we would come back next day and paint it, she had to have the furniture moved (are insurance does not cover us moving furniture). When we got there none of the furniture was moved ,we should have walked away till it was moved. The nice guy I am we moved the furniture out of the way so we could paint ceiling, yes the floor did get scratched moving the furniture, but would never have happend if it was moved. With that being said I felt we were not responsible for damages, she should have moved it like she was asked in order to paint the ceiling. I did sand the area where it was scratched and restained it for her, She said she was happy with are work and the repair. Six months later I get a letter stating she wants $1300 for her floors to be redone, it was a two three inch scratches the hole floor didn't need to be done.

After a flood in my basement which caused extensive drywall and trim damage, I called Mudslingers. Chris and his crew not only repaired the damage but also repaired inferior work done during a previous installation. He was cheerful, accommodating, and worked h****** all sorts of issues that arose during the process (through no fault of his). The drywall, trim, and paint are beautiful and I receive many compliments. He comes highly recommended and without reservations.
