Response from Frank-Dale Roof & Chimney Inc
The contract for this job was written by the previous owner of the company "Gutter Maintenance" we would never write that on a contract since gutters are maintenance free! We went to take a look at his concerns, at that point [Member Name Removed] mentioned they had an addition put on the house years prior and it didn't go well with their contractors, from my observation the house roof pitch was increased to a 10 or 12 pitch, I would of increased the size of the gutters at the time of construction. [Member Name Removed] also mentioned he had numerous gutter issues, more so since the addition was put on the house. It was very apparent [Member Name Removed] had ice issues for quite a number of years since I could see the gutter heat cables hanging out the bottom of the downspouts. The heat cables that homeowners use tend to be one of those out of sight out of mind items, sometimes folks forget to plug them in, they also have a short life, a few years generally. [Member Name Removed] stated that he found shingle debris in the downspouts that is possible but to be large enough to block water flow that would cause the back seams on the downspouts to burst from being full of ice. that was caused by failed heat cables. A piece of shingle large enough to block enough water to cause this type of issue would of never made it past the first elbow at the top of the downspout. At the end of the day, in my opinion this was not caused by any debris it was a poorly designed gutter system that [Member Name Removed] has been battling for years, hence the heat cables! I made [Member Name Removed] an offer to replace his gutters with a properly designed system at 50% the cost of new and he wanted everything at no cost to him. We have decades of experience in our company and have seen a lot, and shingle debris causing burst seams in down spouts isn't one of them, failed heating cables is the culprit. I failed to mention it was several downspouts with burst back seams not one, What are those odds?
