Dale has an informative website and wonderful administrative support. I received a letter in the mail before he came out confirming the appointment and providing information - very professional. Like others mentioned in their reports, Dale came out, did a very thorough inspection and decided that better grading (landscaping) and gutters were the solution and not foundation repair, etc. Dale knows his stuff and if ever I am in need of repairs like basement wall, foundation, drain tile or other services his company offers he'll be the one I'll call.

They were very responsive and he seemed to really know what he was doing. He inspected the basement and also the driveway. He found that the driveway was not graded correctly, and suggested that we contact a concrete company to regrade it and direct the water away from the house. He was very honest and trustworthy. He said he could do a quick fix but said he did not recommend it and said it would not be worth it. We took his advice and a concrete company was able to fully resolve our issue. We were very happy with his suggestion and would certainly use him in the future.

They were very professional and very nice over the phone. After making an appointment they sent me a letter containing a free estimate before they came out. I actually solved the problem on my own when I found a dog toy in the drain of the basement floor while I was cleaning. So I had to cancel the appointment and they didn?t have to come. They were nice about the cancellation too.

They came out and inspected our basement because of water coming in after big rains. They told us that it was not a problem with our basement but with our landscaping. They were super informative - it is nice to know a company can be so helpful when they aren't even trying to sell you anything!

We can't say enough about the pleasure of working with Dale Dobbe and his crew. Dale is friendly, polite and professional. He explains the situation clearly and never suggests more work than is needed to correct the problem. The crew were friendly and pleasant, finished by mid-afternoon, and cleaned up nicely when they were done.
Description of Work: Basement Specialist has done work for us before, installing a sump pump and replacing interior drain tiles in part of the basement where we had leaks at the foundation level. That work was perfectly effective and my husband's office has been dry ever since. Then late this winter we developed a small leak along a wall in the laundry room and had Basement Specialist replace the interior drain tiles along one wall not previously done.

It went very well. They were the only company we talked to that was willing to take the process one step at a time. The other two companies immediately wanted to do piering of the walls. As it turned out, the structure was fine and we didn't need any piering. We couldn't have known that until the wall was dug out and taking it step by step allowed us to save tens of thousands of dollars. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat and have already recommended their services.

We dad had to reschedule my first appointment due to overbooking on our end. They were gracious in doing so.
Description of Work: Mr. Dobbe came over, met with my dad, & basically told him he couldn't do any work or begin the quote process until we removed the footing lining the basement wall. My dad enjoyed speaking & meeting with Mr. Dobbe and I enjoyed speaking with his receptionist. We won't be tearing apart our basement floor just so someone can get a better idea of what can be done, or what the problem is. We've decided on an alternate route.

Estimate for basement repair due to water leaking in was provided by Dale Dobbe. He was very professional and provided tips to correct water leaking issues. However, I had already put his ideas into practice with no improvement. Due to various factors, I will not consider an exterior excavation and am only interested in interior options. Dale informs me that he cannot perform any interior work due to floor design, even though several other contractors have said that they can perform interior work on my basement. All in all, if I did have a project in which I would consider an exterior excavation, I wouldn't hesitate to call on Dale.

In the process of selling our house, the buyers asked us to bring in Basement Specialist to check for water issues. (Basement Specialist had done some wall supports in the house 7 years ago for the prior owner). Dale (the owner) came out for a "free" inspection. He found no water problems, but decided on his own to check all the walls for structural issues to see if he could turn his "free" inspection into something lucrative for himself. He found some which he then put in a written report, putting us in a terrible position with the potential buyers. He gave us a quote for fixing the problem of almost $5000. (As an aside, when we asked Dale if this problem existed with the walls when he did the original work 7 years ago, he said it almost certainly did. When we then asked him why he didn't take care of it or note it on his report back then he made excuses claiming he must not have been asked to check those walls or couldn't get to them.). Since we now had to fix the problem, we got additional estimates and ended up getting the work done for $3600. (The works was done by A Grade Above who did great job). In the meantime, the potential buyers, who were very nervous to begin with, decided they needed to talk to Dale about the structural work he recommended to be done. By then, Dale knew that someone else was going to be taking care of it. Dale proceeded to tell the buyers that there were grading issues and other fixes that needed to be done to address the "water issues" to the tune of $1000+. Dale never mentioned any grading issues while meeting with us and in fact, told us he couldn't comment on grading since there was so much snow. On top of that he had already issued a report indicating that there were no water issues. The buyers also requested that Dale agree to allow the three years remaining on the warranty we held on his wall support work from 7 years ago, to be transferred to them. Dale told them he would be happy to do it for $550! This was a full 15% of the cost of the original work and something he already owed to us if we didn't sell the house. Moreover, the warranty is limited to the installation of additional supports. Nothing more. We were stunned. It is clear that Basement Specialist is not willing to stand behind their work or do anything reasonable to help a sale go through unless they get something significant in return. To cap off this long sad story, Dale's comments managed to so scare the buyers, that they ended up canceling the contract. Dale, in essence, sabotaged the deal. Based on this experience, I would never use Basement Specialist. Nor would I allow them to even give me a "free" estimate. Their warranty is borderline useless and they are way overpriced. Moreover, I have serious questions as to their integrity. Stay far away.
Description of Work: Supposed to be a check for water issues but it turned into a foundation problem.

Response from BASEMENT SPECIALISTS INC
WE WERE FIRST CONTACTED BY THE POTENTIAL BUYERS AND EXPLAINED TO THAT THEM IF THEY DID NOT OWN THE HOME; THERE WOULD BE AN INSPECTION FEE. IT IS POLICY TO GIVE FREE ESTIMATES TO HOME OWNERS AND REFERRALS. HOWEVER,THIS MEMBER, THE OWNER, CONTACTED US AND ASKED THAT WE COME OUT AND DO AN INSPECTION. I MET WITH HIM AT THE HOME; I NEVER SAW OR SPOKE TO HER. I AGREED TO RE-INSPECT THE BASEMENT EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. MY ORIGINAL THOUGHT ON THE INSPECTION WAS I WAS DOING IT FOR “GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS” AND NOT UNDER ANY PRETENSE OF GETTING A JOB FROM IT. HOWEVER I FOUND A PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT. THERE WAS NO WATER FOUND AT THE TIME OF MY INSPECTION. HOWEVER, I DID FIND STAINS ON SOME PORTIONS OF THE WALLS. HE, HER HUSBAND, STATED HE DID HAVE WATER ENTERING THE BASEMENT DURING THE JUNE FLOOD OF 2008. I DID FIND THAT THE EAST AND WEST WALLS WERE BOTH OUT OF PLUMB BY 1-1/8”. I ASKED HIM IF HE WANTED A WRITTEN QUOTE FOR THE REPAIRS TO WHICH HE SAID YES. THE PRICE I QUOTED WAS $4,770.00 PLUS BUILDING PERMIT. I ALSO GAVE AN OPTION TO CHECK THE DRAIN TILE FOR $275.00. WHEN ASKED ABOUT WHETHER THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN THE EAST AND WEST WALLS WHEN WE DID THE ORIGINAL WORK IN 2002, WHAT I MOST LIKELY STATED AT THE TIME, WAS THAT EITHER I WAS ASKED TO ONLY INSPECT THE SOUTH WALL OR THAT THE EAST AND WEST WALLS WERE NOT ACCESSIBLE WHEN DOING MY ORIGINAL INSPECTION. I DO NOT RECALL WHAT WAS ACTUALLY SAID SEVEN (7) YEARS AGO. I STATED THAT THE PROBLEM IN THE EAST AND WEST WALLS MOST LIKELY ALREADY EXISTED, BUT TO WHAT DEGREE I DID NOT KNOW. I THEN EXPLAINED HOW THE CLAY SOIL DEVELOPS PRESSURE ON THE WALLS FORCING THEM INWARD AND THIS USUALLY TAKES A NUMBER OF YEARS TO DEVELOP INTO A SEVERE SITUATION. ON MY REPORT WHERE I CHECKED “NO WATER PROBLEM “ I ALSO CHECKED THE NEXT BOX WHERE IT SAYS “PER OWNER” AND ON TOP OF IT I WROTE IN “ONLY FLOOD OF JUNE 08” (INDICATING WHAT HE TOLD ME). I DID MENTION THE GRADE AND PUT A QUESTION MARK ON MY REPORT NEXT TO THE AREA WHERE IT SAYS “POOR GRADING ALONG WALL/YARD ” AND “RE-GRADE ALONG WALLS “. I ALSO WROTE “SNOW” ON THE REPORT NEXT TO THIS AREA. HE AND I DISCUSSED HOW I WAS NOT PROPERLY ABLE TO INSPECT THE GRADE DUE TO THE SNOW BUT I QUESTIONED IT FROM THE SMALL AREA THAT I WAS ABLE TO SEE. OUR CONTRACT STATES THE GUARANTEE WILL TRANSFER ONLY ONCE AFTER THE ORIGINAL HOLDER. IN THE PAST WE HAVE FOUND NEW OWNERS ALTERING OUR WORK, WHICH CAN COMPROMISE THE STABILITY OF THE WALL. STEEL SUPPORTS WERE INSTALLED TO STOP MOVEMENT OF THE WALL. NO OTHER WORK WAS DONE. THEREFORE, OUR GUARANTEE IS LIMITED TO THE REINFORCING ONLY. OBVIOUSLY, THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AS I MENTIONED, SINCE AS STATED IN THEIR REPORT; REPAIRS HAVE NOW BEEN COMPLETED THROUGH ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. I UNDERSTAND THEIR FRUSTRATIONS SELLING A HOUSE IN TODAY’S MARKET, ESPECIALLY AFTER THEY ALREADY MOVED INTO THEIR NEW HOUSE. ALL I DID WAS FIND AN EXISTING PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT.

The person on site was extremely helpful and patient, answering all of my questions and providing me detailed info about how to solve the problem. He did not pressure me into buying a "fix" I did not need, and instead told me how to fix it myself. I appreciated the honesty and professionalism that would make me trust them if we ever had a real problem.
Description of Work: Came out upon request to review a basement water problem. After viewing the problem and hearing the background they advised that a few "self fixes" should take care of the problem.

This involved an estimate only. I did not require the type of work the contractor did.
Description of Work: My contact with the company involved an estimate to ascertain the nature of my moisture problems in the basement. Dale Dobbe came to my residence. He was there within the time span indicated and was professional and polite. Since the problems did not fall within the preview of his company, he referred me to various people who did the work I needed to have done. I also liked that the company got back to me quickly after my initial contact, sent a letter of confirmation and did a telephone follow-up with regard to the appointment.

Dale Dobbe, company owner, did the consultation himself. We scheduled a one-hour window for his arrival, but he was about a half-hour late. Which meant I waited an hour-and-a-half for him all together. His excuse was that he'd been double-booked. Dale was very thorough, pleasant and professional. He knew what he was talking about and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. In the end he didn't sell me anything at all. He recommended a couple of quick fixes I could do myself, based on his evaluation on the situation.

The overall experience was not very good. Work didn't begin until 3 months after I gave a deposit, even though I was told 8 weeks. That would have been fine if I would have gotten a phone call. Poor communication from the owner and crews who worked. Start times/end times varied, without explanation. No communication at the end of the day as to what was done, what was planned for the next day and when work would start the next day. A different crew removed original concrete and didn't communicate with the next crew who was pouring it; entire area was missed, and dirt was put there instead. Poor concrete work; had to be removed and re-poured after I complained, otherwise I think it would have been left as was. Repairs from their damages not made, after 3 requests (outside faucet that they broke, chips in existing concrete, scratches on new exterior door). Too many different people working that didn't have clear directions from owner.

I got a good price from this company. For all of the work they were doing in my basement, I paid them only about eight or nine thousand dollars. They worked hard for that money, though. They are a business that deserves a good reputation. They are reliable, friendly, and the quality of their work is quite nice. I would use them again. I hope to never have walls that are leaning in the first place, but if I did, I would be calling this company.
