Description of Work: In September, 2012 Cedarburg Overhead Doors installed a new door for our single car garage. Since then, the door has worked flawlessly except twice, both minor glitches, once we needed a new battery and the other a sensor was blocked. In both instances, we called Cedarburg owner Jerry Herbst and instantly he was back to us with instructions on how to correct the stoppage. Jerry is tradesman who sells you a product and then provides after sale- service. If you need a need garage door give Jerry a call.

Description of Work: The repairman's mantra was repeated...repeatedly! How they only do the kind of work they would want done on their own garage. I guess his garage door sticks & doesn't open right. Work was adequate: garage door cables replaced. Easy to make appointment & have door assessed. Had the repair gone better we would've used them to replace the garage door a couple years from now. Like another reviewer, we felt some pressured to install an expensive new door system (see mantra above). At the initial assessment I was told--if needed--all moving door hardware could be replaced for $150-$200. The repair was scheduled for 4 hr time window. We requested & repairman agreed to make a courtesy call prior to arrival/en route so all parties could be present. No courtesy call. Repairman came 1 hr prior to repair window & wouldn't wait, not all parties were present. | |During the repair he pointed out a problem area that should've been noted during 1st assessment & decision making process (possible game changer). While repairing he said parts are no longer made for this door & we might find them on ebay...so, the parts we were told could be replaced were not. The repairman talked fast & over questions. Said he was 'sorry' a lot but that doesn't fix a door or clarify why the repair didn't proceed as anticipated. The restrung door didn't open well & stuck along the curve. Door felt like it may roll down suddenly or fall off rails if forced. In short, dangerous. I used silicon spray on all metal parts/ bearings and it works fine now. We think a good repairman would know to use, or advise using, lubricant if door didn't work properly. A new safety cable was a 50% upcharge. We installed our own for under $10. "

Description of Work: 1st time came out to check out erratic door operation. Unlike other door services, Jerry did not tell me that we had to replace the garage door opener. He did not charge me for the service call. 2nd contact was via phone. I had isolated the problem. Rather than sending someone out, phone contact told me how to fix it. Would LIKE to use these guys, but no reason why you shouldn't.

 + -1 moreMost of the work was done in workman-like fashion, functional but not detailed or adjusted. Don't expect precision. Overall, all employees were courteous but apparently lacked training. The number of mistakes found was disturbing. Wires were routed along moving belts and/or pulleys or installed where wires could easily be kicked or caught on passing equipment or tools. Off-centered and crooked hanger placement on two of the doors. Of greatest concern was the very poor connection of the torsion bar to the header. Installers used bent, half-driven nails instead of lag bolts to secure this vital part. A follow up visit by installer to make adjustments resolved none of the problems of one opener bouncing the door when closing. A service call from a different company revealed door and rail settings to be out of adjustment, and little to no lubrication used on moving parts in contradiction of the owners manual. I recommend a very close inspection of the work if you use this company.

 + -1 moreCAME ON A SUNDAY TO REVIEW THE JOB. HAD CALLED ABOUT REPAIRING OLD OPENER THAT WAS MALFUNCTIONING. HE LAID OUT ALL THE OPTIONS FROM DOING NOTHING TO REPAIR TO REPLACEMENT WITH PRICES. JOB COMPLETED LATER THAT WEEK IN ONE DAY. GREAT SERVICE ALL AROUND.
