I did not get a second estimate on the work to be done because the reviews were so good on Angies List. So I have no cost comparison for the work done. It did seem a bit high, but don't know for sure. Kurt was very professional and punctual. The men working for him were also. The finished repair work looks good. We are pleased.

They (3 men) came on time and worked on the project efficiently. They were polite and professional and did a good job. The price is a bit higher than some other bids I got, but not differ

I came across Smoke Stacks using Angie's List and started out by emailing Kurt with a question. He guided me through the process of repairing the flashing myself, even suggesting where to get the proper caulk. After I got up on the roof and determined I was way out of my league, I emailed Kurt back and he came out within a few days to do the repair himself at a very reasonable price. It says as lot about a guy running his own business in a tough economy to suggest a DIY fix to the customer knowing he could have charged up front.

Checkup went well. After sharing a photo of the top of our chimney with us, Kurt recommended some minor sheet metal work to fix rusting problem. He suggested we use our roofer or heating/ac guy to save money as it was a small job that they could do quickly. When asked to clean out leaves from gutters on our two story shome, he did it with no problem for a reasonable cost. Kurt returned our call within 24 hours and showed up within 48. Professional and prompt.

Owner returned my call for a quote within the hour. Was very courteous and gave me advice for handling a deteriorating unused chimney. I told him that our roof needs replacing, and he recommended that we have the roof contractor do the chimney demo. A less scrupulous contractor would have suggested that he do the work separately from the roofers. Thanks for your time and honest feedback!

I wanted the mortar on the fireplace brick and chimney inspected since I noticed some partially missing joints. Kurt came out and after taking a look said it was just a cosmetic concern and gave my some great tips on how to DIY. Also gave me some advice on an concrete issue that was unrelated to the fireplace brick. I found him to be very honest and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone looking for masonry work

Kurt was friendly, honest, professional, and helpful. The team arrived on time each day. First they built scaffolding for the main chimney. Then work began. They removed old brick and then began masonry. They worked hard throughout the week, cleaning up each evening. I am proud of the way the chimneys look: we chose a beautiful brick and mortar which complement my older colonial home. The chimneys give my house the crowning touch--I have received many compliments on them! Kurt also talked to me about the safety concerns of wood-burning fireplaces in older homes. (I have one log-burning and one gas fireplace). He was honest and caring. I would definitely ask Smoke Stacks for any further work I might need. I had three other bids--one of them thousands of dollars more for the same work. I am so glad I selected Kurt Sorens and SmokeStacks!

We got numerous estimates for a chimney repair, ranging from $900-$15000. A friend said we HAD to call Kurt at Smoke Stacks. When Kurt came he looked inside send out and made a DIY suggestion to my husband. We are planning to do some more extensive work in a few years that may involve a rebuild or removal of the chimney and do not want to invest a ton right now. While his suggestion may not mean work for him right now- we will definitely recommend him for his honesty and call when we are ready for our larger project!

Kurt scheduled an estimate within a couple of days of my first call. He educated me on the process, informed me why he was suggesting the approach was used and did not recommend an approach that was unnecessary. When it came to scheduling the job, he was on time and always communicating with me along the way. No surprises and on time and on budget. Would definitely recommend his work!

I bought a bank-owned home that hadn't been cared for in a very long time. The wood-burning fireplace was unusable and filled with leaves and debris from going without a crown and vent for years. Kurt and his team really went above and beyond for me. Not only did they perform all of the work they said they would, they recognized other issues I needed help with and performed the work free of charge. Specifically, they noticed my gutters were filled with leaves and cleaned that out. When they went to replace the flashing around my chimney, they found that portions of the wood around my chimney had rotted. They replaced this. When I came home, I couldn't tell that the workers had been there. Everything was neat and clean inside and I. Finally, Kurt took the time to give me safety and preventative maintenance tips for wood-burning fireplaces. I'd use Kurt again and would highly recommend him and his team to neighbors, friends or Angie's list members.

I called for an estimate last November. Kurt (owner) arrived promptly, inspected the chimney and gave several options about what could be done, including total repair, just tuck pointing or doing nothing immediately as the chimney wasn't leaking. The chimney had multiple bricks that had popped off over the years, mortar wearing away. We decided after thinking about the information we were given, to have the entire chimney redone above the roof line. Kurt emailed us an estimate and said if we decided to go with him, the price would be good until spring when weather would allow him to begin work. Once we decided to use Smoke stacks, we signed the estimate, no down payment was required. We got a call a few days before work was to start this spring to confirm it was ok to go ahead with the work. Crew arrived promptly on the appointed day. They worked in inclement weather, cleaned up all the dust and debris daily and consolidated all their equipment. The work began on a Monday and finished Thursday. We asked that the smaller chimney be checked while they were here, they repaired some small cracks and put in the smaller liner. The work was excellent. Professional, hard working crew. We would highly recommend this company.

I'll just say off the bat that my Kurt's customer service/experience is second to none. He and his team were incredibly nice and did a great job. They were also very efficient and definitely went out of their way to ensure that I was happy with the service.

They were very good. He was knowledgeable. He came on time. My neighbor used him and he recommended the company to me. I called them in and he was very professional. I asked another company why I would go with them and he told me that they've very good and well-known and that their closest competitor as far as quality wan workmanship goes is Smoke Stacks.

I sought out a number of quotes for my major chimney work, and Smoke Stacks got the job for a variety of reasons. Kurt, the owner, was out to look at it within two days. Many other places made me wait weeks or said they'd come look at it and never did. Kurt gave me a quote within days of looking at it. The price was right in the middle of the five quotes I received but Smoke Stacks had two advantages -- they could start quickly (wanted to be sure it was done before winter) and they agreed to reuse some of the bricks and lannon stone from my original chimney to keep the look of my nearly 100-year-old house. Others would not do that and wanted to use all new bricks. The crew was very professional, arrived on time every day and got the job done over the course of a few days.The chimney looks fantastic and my neighbors have all been over to say how they can't believe how well a new chimney matches such an old house. This is a great group to work with and I highly recommend them.

We had several guys come out to look at our chimney. Not one of them worked as hard as Kurt did to really figure out what the problem was. Kurt spent a lot of time on the roof, in the attic, in the basement , spraying water etc. until he was satisfied he knew what the concern was. Kurt offered a free estimate and we were convinced he was the guy for the job. Him and two other workers showed up exactly at the time that was scheduled. They were very careful about our landscaping when they put up their scaffolding. They worked hard and cleaned up everything. Our chimney looks fantastic. We are sure we made the right choice when we had Kurt do the job. Very friendly, very honest and very professional. We are very pleased and will highly recommend SmokeStacks.

Awesome Kurt and his crew are the best. Came in a Tue morning started right in, meet my wife just gave her the plan and away the went. Clean, professional, We had nothing but rain all week but they were here everyday and on Tuesday started worked a few hours early and were back mid afternoon after the rain was gone.It too three days instead of two due to rain but every day good progress was made. We knew where they were at and everything was spotless when they left everyday. The chimmey never looked better they are the only people you should call if you want it done right and want your contractor to treat you like family. I kid you not Call Smoke Stack they are the best. Oh by the way we discussed some additional work that another company suggested and he said why spend the money when you do not really need that done. Stop reading revweiws Just call Smoke Stack. and no I am not related.

Service was very prompt and professional. The owner, Kurt, came by the next day after my call for an estimate. He accommodated my work hours so I could be there to speak with him. Once I accepted the bid, they got the work done quickly and cleaned up any debris. They even took photos of their work for me.

Had an estimate done several months ago and still honored the proposal. Came on time and preformed the work in about an hour. We had a gap in the fireplace and they put some concrete bond to prevent fire from spreading up the wall.

The owner is Kurt and I have used him for the last 20 years. He is excellent. His prices are so reasonable. He does brick work and chimneys and masonry.

I think Kurt was the name of the guy who I worked with. He was very courteous and friendly. He was very professional to deal with. He did a great job and kept the spot very clean.
