I received a quote on 3 different levels of comparable-sized water heaters over the phone. I chose the best quality with longest warranty and was told that they would credit me the parts that were installed on my old water heater 2 1/2 months previous. The price already included trip charge/installation. I was able to schedule for the next day and the installation took less than 2 hours. My only negative comment was that the carpet just outside the basement utility area was wet and mildly dirty. Hard to totally avoid, but perhaps a tarp could have been put down.
Description of Work: Removed old water heater and installed new water heater.

I was able to schedule service within a few days of calling - no emergency. We had notice our water heater valve was leaking gelatinous material. The serviceman was timely and although he wasn't sure what the material was that was oozing out of our heater, he replaced the valve and flushed the water tank. As far as I know, there are no problems with the new valve. We did have the heat unexpectedly turn off on us 2 days later, possibly because he had left the pilot at the lowest setting. Once we restarted it, we've had no problems since. Cost perhaps a bit high, but overall satisfactory.
Description of Work: Replace faulty valve and drained/flushed water heater.

We have rented a water softener from Sand K since we bought our house nine years ago. Whenever we need service they are always there within 24 hours, they replace all parts, unplug lines, and then clean everything inside and out, the thing virtually sparkles by the time they leave. I know I could have paid less over nine years but the service has been worth it.

They are great and guarantee the work. One time I had an employee put a strange type of drain basket in that was difficult to use. I called them and they sent another plumber out who put in a more standard drain basket. They are great about taking care of any problems. An individual might give you a slightly lower rate, but not the type of service and guarantee that they give. They have also installed a sump pump, a back up, and a water heater.

Seemed a bit pricey to me, but I never really dealt with anybody else so i can't compare. They do excellent work. Very satisfied. I'll call them whenever I need something I can't do myself.
Description of Work: I just put $500 in for no good reason. I have had these guys over a few times. Once to replace the pressure tank for my well. Another time to replace the well pump. Another for a water heater. Once more for a messed up bath tub valve. I couldn't say how much each service cost for sure.

Janet Callahan coordinated the work and was a real pleasure to work with, very responsive, with good suggestions for fixtures. The plumbers were not always as careful and neat as I would have liked. For example, once or twice our doors were left unlocked after they left for the day, and they did not cover our carpeting with tarps. We hired our own contractor to open and close walls, and, at times, the plumbers used some of his supplies without his consent. But they were very skilled and knowledgeable and we are happy with the end result.
Description of Work: S&K replaced all the plumbing pipes (drains, vents, and water lines) in our 60+ year old house, and provided new toilets and bath fixtures for three bathrooms. They also coordinated removal of asbestos from pipes by abatement company. We are very happy with the finished job, it's like a brand new house.

We were able to get an appointment for a quote within a week. Kurt arrived on time and was very attentive. He listened to all our plumbing concerns and took detailed notes. His bid proposal was nicely done and easy to understand. When we asked Kurt to include some additional services in his bid, he stopped by the house again to make sure to get the details down and gave us a re-bid within 2 weeks. Although we didn't choose to go with Sand K, we definitely would consider them in the future.
Description of Work: Quote for the following services: Replace existing water piping throughout home; remove/replace laundry tub and faucet; reroute sump pump; install 2 hose bibs; fix drain piping in 2nd floor bathroom; demolition of 2nd floor bathroom; install new subfloor.

They fixed a new kitchen faucet and a ruptured bathroom faucet. They also installed a garbage disposer for me. He came and took a look at the sink. Then he went to the computer and looked at what they had. I was able to pick out what I needed. He did the same thing for the upstairs bathroom sink. He ordered it and brought it a few days later. He fixed it and it did not leak. That was the idea behind the whole process of checking on the computer. If there was a leak, it would have ruined the cabinets. It was slightly expensive but it was worth it. They are going to be my plumbers in the future. I don’t like to go through all the cutting down. It is awful. They also keep a record of all the plumbing work they do on a particular house.

It went great. After we selected the Toto toilet and washlet and ordered it through Sand K, within 2 days the plumber was at our house removing our 32-year old toilet and installing the new toilet and washlet. Everything went very smoothly.
Description of Work: The cost covers the purchase and installation of a Drake toilet and Toto Washlet. The washlet is incredible! I've wanted a bidet for the last 25 years, but the bathroom wasn't large enough for it. The washlet is a wonderful substitute. The high cost of the work is primarily due to the cost of the washlet. S&K's customer service -- from beginning to end -- was outstanding. The plumber was equally excellent, which is typical of S&K.

In Oct 08 we had a submerged sump pump and backup pump installed. The work in the interior of the house was excellent. They increased the size of the PVC exiting the house. This increased capacity coupled with the submerged pump make it virtually silent. Our old pump could be heard at other end of house and with it firing every 10 seconds for 5 weeks in the spring of 08 my wife was going postal. The problem was with channeling the discharge water down our driveway away from the house. We did have an issue with the pump's shut off switch. We had people here twice - once to adjust the sensor and once to replace it. On one of those trips the individual noticed that the extension pipe (that had been permanently caulked to the PVC discharge from the house) had frozen over. He removed the caulk from the junction without notifying us. Had we not noticed this it would have resulted in massive leaking within 1 foot of the foundation. The force of just one pump firing would have blown the extension off the PVC with the total dump right next to the foundation. When I complained about the completeness of the job and that freeze overs should have been foreseen they sent someone out to install a removable coupling between the house PVC discharge and a larger black plastic extension pipe. Unfortunately this coupling also leaked and worse the extension pipe had a large slit on the bottom allowing leakage within 3 feet of the foundation. The leaking was now worse and for this solution I was invoiced $144. I again complained and someone came out and simply put a new large extension pipe over the PVC (about a foot overlap). The bill was reduced to only $73.68. The pump is excellent, as is the work inside the house. God however, is in the details and here the details were very frustrating. I could have just bought a large extension for $10 myself but for $1800 I felt I should not have to. That a complete solution to my spring water problems was being purchased. Instead I wound up paying $74 for that same dam pipe and I had a lot of frustration with an overly complicated and expensive solution that did not work but I was still invoiced for. At one point they wanted to bury the discharge pipe from the house to the driveway even though the grade would not permit it. Expensive complicated was recommended when simple cheap worked.
Description of Work: We live in Springdale Estates in the City of Pewaukee. Emphasis on Spring. In the spring of 08, 4 of our neighbors had basement water problems with their sump pump failing. Our pump fired 4 to 5 times per minute for about 6 weeks. We were also sensitive to losing power twice during the year. We wanted a better spring water solution.

I had temporarily plugged the leak in the side of the 32-year-old tank with a screw and rubber washer, but called for emergency service on the weekend anyway because I was not confident in my temporary repair. I got a response from an on-call Sand K representative within 30 minutes, who indicated that emergency service would cost about three times as much, about $3,000, because of billing differences. He advised that my patch, which I described to him, should hold until Monday and suggested that I wait. I agreed and he said a representative would call me at 7:00 A.M. Monday. Promptly at 7:05 A.M., a representative called and scheduled a service call for 9:00 A.M. A plumber, Bruce, arrived as scheduled and completed removal of the old tank and installation of a new one in about 2 hours, charging $1,014. He was very courteous and professional, and the work is very satisfactory. He took away the old tank and thoroughly cleaned up after himself. The price was a bit high, but I believe one gets what one pays for.

Refused to accept responsibility. Their response below indicates that they are relying on a hostile neighbor that lives on the other side of the house and had no way of knowing. They also made an unauthorized visit to the tenants living in the home to tell them the well was contaminated when it wasn't. Nobody had called them or asked them, they just came to the home. The situation was not handled in a professional manner.

Response from S & K Pump & Plumbing Inc
THIS JOB WAS COMPLETED AT A COST OF $2439.11 AND OUR JOB WAS COMPLETE. WE RECEIVED A CALL DURING THE STORM INDICATING THAT WE HAD REMOVED THE PLUG FROM THE SUMP PUMP AND THAT HAD CAUSED FLOODING. WE RECEIVED AN UNSOLICITED CALL FROM A NEIGHBOR WHO IS A GOOD CUSTOMER OF OURS. THE NEIGHBOR TOLD US THAT THE SUMP PUMP WAS RUNNING FOR DAYS AFTER WE HAD BEEN THERE AND NOT TO BE TAKEN BY THE CLAIMS OF THE CUSTOMER WHO HAD PEOPLE THERE FOR A FULL DAY HELPING THEM MOVE OUT. THE NEIGHBOR HAD REASON TO BELIEVE WE WERE BEING BLAMED FOR THE PROBLEM. WE WERE IN THE HOME LATER FOR A WATER SAMPLE FOLLOW-UP AND FOUND THAT THE OUTLET THAT THE SUMP PUMP WAS PLUGGED INTO WAS FAULTY AND WEAK SO IT WOULD NOT HOLD THE CORD IN PROPERLY. BASED ON THE INFORMATION WE RECEIVED AND THE REPORTS FROM THE PERSONNEL WORKING ON THE JOB, WE REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. WHEN WE CAUSE A PROBLEM, WE WILL ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE DONE, HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE HERE. THANK YOU FOR THE ABILITY TO RESPOND.

The service tech removed leaking 8-year-old A.O. Smith water heater and replaced it with different brand after explaining that Sand K has had quality issues since Smith began outsourcing their manufacturing outside the US. They are using Bradford White brand water heaters, which is only available to plumbing contractors and is made in the US. I had 2 years left on my warranty (labor and some parts not covered) so it cost me $560, which I was told saved me about half. I discovered after the tech departed that he left behind a terrible mess, including standing water in the basement in a large area around the new water heater, a piece of his equipment and a housing from the old unit that he should have taken with him for disposal. After mulling over the situation, I decided to write a letter to the owner, not in anger, but just explaining what happened, because I have been a customer of theirs for 19 years and have never, ever, encountered such a situation. I have now received a phone call from the owner and also from the plumbing service manager. They were quite disturbed to think this had occurred and were most apologetic. In fact, the plumbing service manager is going to come out to the house because he wants to check for himself that the water heater itself was correctly installed in every respect. They have conferred with the employee in question regarding his unacceptable performance. So I feel that they have done everything that I, as a customer, could expect them to do, to ensure that something like this won't happen to me again or to another customer. In my letter, I also said that I felt their $85 trip charge was excessive, since my home is 1.15 miles from their shop, probably a 7-minute drive at most. I said that I know it is just a standard charge and is probably an average for the travel they do in the whole metropolitan area, but I felt they should have some kind of graduated scale for customers who live very, very close to their shop. They agreed, and are refunding me a portion of the trip charge. So I feel that they listened to me and took corrective action that satisfies me, thus I do intend to continue using this company. For nineteen years I have been very pleased with their service, so I wanted to at least give them a chance to respond to my concerns before making a change to someone else. One employee can give a company a bad name and I felt they deserved a chance to make amends and save their reputation (at least with me.) I believe they have done this very satisfactorily.

It took about 3 weeks I think. I had a huge hole and pile of dirt in my laundry room because they had to dig deep into the Earth. So, there was jack-hammering. The plumber was hot but stayed polite and good humored. The jack hammer vibrations broke the big clay pipe in the ground which added $1,500.00 to the cost. They made sure I had plastic across the house so I wouldn't get my rug dirty. They cleaned up everyday when they left. I did the painting and the flooring.
Description of Work: They put a wall up in the middle of my long laundry room, with a pocket door to cut the laundry room in half. Then they built a 1/2 bath on the other side. I have no basement so they had to cut through the cement floor to reach piping. They cut open the walls to install piping for a toilet and sink. They covered my furnace and hot water heater with louver doors, installed the medicine cabinet and vanity lights. They gave me new connections to my washer and dryer. They gave me new mouldings. They moved my floor drain, gave me a vent. There was a plumber, carpenter, electrician, and drywall guys. They were all experienced, mature men, excellent at their jobs. They worked hard and long and didn't disrupt my life at all. They cleaned up after themselves, kept me informed when they'd be back or who's coming next, or what inspector is coming. They made sure I was making the best purchases for my budget.

The work was accomplished efficiently and competently by a courteous technician for the exact price quoted. S and K promptly responded the next day to my call and installed a high-quality American-made water heater without complications. My only complaint is that rust dust from removal of the old heater was left on the basement stairs for the owner--me--to clean up. Not a big deal, but an unnecessary loose end. Otherwise, this was a very painless experience.
