My 1974 well pump was starting to slow down so I wanted to preempt it failing and requiring an emergency replacement. Unfortunately, the conduit for existing pipe from the pump was falling apart where it entered the basement and it was very clear that it would fail the (now) required pressure test. This meant that the entire well had to be brought up to code with a pitless connector installed. My situation was further complicated by the fact that the well head sits under a trap-door in a relatively large deck, The trap door would have been plenty large enough for a simple pump replacement but insufficient for the usual excavation required for a code upgrade. Other plumbers that I contacted either wanted to dismantle / destroy part of the deck or abandon the existing well and dig a new one. However, S & K - who are *really good* problem solvers - were able to figure out how to do all of this work while keeping the deck intact. I have used S & K previously but, still, I was impressed by their professionalism and work ethic. The work was completed in a little less that 2 days with no loss of water supply in the intervening night. All of the work was done neatly and the work-site left clean and tidy. The price quote also included the replacement of the well pump with a "constant pressure" unit and the removal of the no longer required pressure tank from the basement. I have no hesitation in recommending S & K.

S&K plumbing technician came on 12/13/18 and fixed leaking pipe. In addition to that he talked my wife into additional fixes and rerpairs. I can not judge if they were necessary or not. I wasn't home at the time the techinician was working. He left a scribbled note describing all the repairs. It's practically impossible to decipher what he wrote. I have called the company and asked to send me a typed info on repairs performed on that day. The person I spoke to promised to mail typed information pertaining to the job done. More than 2 weeks later I still havn't heard from the company. P.S. Job No: 106260 Date: 12/13/18 Service tech 189

The laundry room on the first floor had dryer venting that was convoluted and old modifications to the degrading plumbing lines that haven’t worked well in years. The walls needed to be opened to fix the plumbing and to move the electrical lines to function better with the front loader washer & dryer. The floors needed replacement too, so a total remodel was called for. I met Beth in the showroom to discuss options and then she came over to the house assess the situation. We settled on all new custom cabinets going up to the ceiling, new countertop, sink, faucet and porcelain tile on the floor. Tony the carpenter demoed the room, decided the best way to handle the dryer vent was to straighten it by building out the wall. To accommodate a bend in the vent, he built a knee wall to hide the vent and to provide a handy bit of counter to the left of the washer. He was ingenious in figuring out the best way to make this work! I can’t say enough about Tony. He was so professional throughout and his workmanship was above par! He was very good at keeping things tidy. Beth the designer helped me select a remnant of granite for the countertops, since I didn’t need a whole slab. When I was overwhelmed by hardware selections at the local hardware store, I called Beth and she came right over to rescue me and helped me make a decision. The only glitch I had was when we discovered that the original flooring had asbestos in it and would need to be remediated. An extra cost, but not really a surprise. Overall the project from conception to execution was performed by staff and workers who all had great skill in their respective fields from carpentry to design to plumbing and tiling. We were always kept informed as to what was going on and when people would be here.
Description of Work: Remodeled the laundry room, new cabinets, floor and plumbing.

Sorry in advance for my story being a bit long-winded. We live in a 48-year old home with a mish-mash of plumbing systems. Original plumbing was copper pipe. There is also some PVC plastic pipe, along with a section of cast iron ("pig iron"). No plumbing issues for around 20 years or more. Yesterday (March 4, 2018), while washing dishes in the kitchen sink, I heard a "bloop-bloop" sound coming from somewhere. No idea what it was. Kept washing dishes and the noise got louder and longer. Walked into a half-bathroom at the end of the kitchen and the noises I was hearing came from the toilet. All the water I was using in the kitchen sink had bubbled up into the toilet, and there must have been a clog in the drain line of the half-bath sink, toilet and the kitchen sink. All 3 drain into the same line. That line exits under the attached garage and has a right-bend where the line continues to the middle of the front of the house where a line serving the bedrooms of the house and basement exit into the city sewer line. That end of the house seemed to work fine. The pipe under a portion of the garage and front porch is cast iron and the PVC was attached to each end. I knew I couldn't flush the toilet, as it would have run over. I let it sit a couple hours and the water level slowly dropped to a more normal one. Flushing the toilet only filled it back up again. I had used S&K Pump and Plumbing a few years ago to get our well passed. We didn't have a vermin proof cap on the well at that time and one was put on and chlorine pellets were used we had to flush out after the prescribed amount of time. When contacting S&K back then, they were very prompt in dealing with my problem and it was done right the first time. So, I decided to contact them again. I used the "Contact" link on their web site, which turned out to be an e-mail link. Figured I'd wait for a call on Monday. Later in the day, after using water from our reverse osmosis system, I had forgotten that we only use 1/3rd of the water created by the reverse osmosis system. 2/3rds of it is waste water, which gets added to the kitchen sink drain. Went into the half-bathroom to check on the water level and the bowl was filled right up to the top. All that waste water went directly into the toilet. At that point, we were done for. Couldn't use the kitchen and drinking water was out of the question. Moreover, when I went down to turn off the reverse osmosis incoming water line, the water pressure in the bowl was so increased that I had drips of water coming out in 5 spots under the toilet from the floor above the crawl space. I went back to S&K's "Contact" site to give them an update. Bailed out the toilet and the tank by hand and went to bed. Bright and early at 6am today, Tom called from S&K. He said a service guy would be over to our house by 7:30am. Brett was a few minutes later than 7:30am today. I showed him the problem and how the lines connect. He went right to work. He drained and removed the toilet, got the old wax seal out, and brought in his sewer machine with extensions to ream out the pipe to get to the clog. There was water in the drain pipe and then the water disappeared, so he must have busted through the clog. No evidence of it was found on the cutter blade. He did encounter an obstacle around 45 feet in or more. That is where the PVC transitions into the cast iron section and lead is used to seal the joints in cast iron. The sealing was improperly done back in 1970 and lead had puddled up on the bottom of the pipe. His cutter wouldn't go through that. For an additional fee, Brett had a underwater camera shipped out to the house while he was here and he ran that down the drain line to see where the obstruction was. That confirmed his theory that lead was puddled in the bottom of the pipe, and that was in 2 places in that section of pipe. He reinstalled the toilet, made sure there were no leaks from the floor or below in the crawl space, turned my reverse osmosis back on, and gave me the bill. The cost was $838 and change, and of that, $325 was the fee to feed the camera down the drain line. The work took roughly 2 hours. When he got done, you couldn't tell he had been here. My house is back up and running and I can use the kitchen, toilet, and have drinking water. My guess is that the basic costs of plumbing are pretty much the same no matter which plumbing service one uses. There is always a trip charge ($85) and hourly rate ($168), along with charge for using specialized equipment. What I based my rating on was the promptness in which my plumbing problem was handled and presume that when a kitchen is down in addition to no drinking water, that brings it up to "DEFCON 5" on the emergency scale. S&K was absolutely there when I needed them, and they are now going to be my "go-to" plumbers. Dr. Stu T. (Ret.) Delafield, WI

They forgot to schedule the service call to inspect the well at my house. Wasted my 1/2 day off waiting for them and when I called at 3 pm they refused to send someone out. Last year I set up an appointment to have a toilet shut off valve replaced (under home warranty) I arrived back at my house at the 2pm scheduled time (Via phone call with the serviceman). The S&K service man pulled out of my driveway and left. They refused to turn around and were at the beginning of the 30 minute window. Was billed $75 for the call and threatened with a small claims court charge if I refuted this bogus charge.

Response from S & K Pump & Plumbing Inc
Our apologies for this error. We scheduled the inspection and our service tech had the paperwork and assumed all his calls for the day were completed when he handed in his daily paperwork. By the time we realized he forgot Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s call, all the techs had left for the day. We offered to come the next morning but he declined. Clearly we regret the missed opportunity and are sorry for the inconvenience. Should service still be desired, we will offer the call at no charge. As for an appointment last year, we have no records of anything at that address dating back to 1994. We do not have 30 minute windows nor do we have $75 call fees. If legal action had been threatened, I would have been the one to do so and that did not happen. I suspect it was another contractor. Brian Kuhn, VP S&K Pump & Plumbing, Inc.

When I spoke with them over the phone, they told me they could either fix the system. The person that responded (Kyle), did not bring his own tools. He had to ask me to borrow my tools which were difficult for me to access at the time. He installed a valve that may or not be necessary. He could not fix the problem, and there is now a terrible noise coming from the faucet upstairs. This machine in the past has always produced a lot more water. He stripped a part on the machine, took a clip out from under the faucet, and used scotch tape to fix a pipe fitting. He pressurized the tank, which did not really need it. Most of the time he was just telling jokes, and laughing. He even cut himself while trying to fix the problem, and bled everywhere. In their defense, I did call this morning. The owner started yelling at me. He insisted that the machine does make the noises originally that it is now making. In the end, they refunded my money which I was happy with.

Called S & K on a Saturday morning for an emergency repair to the copper pipe under my kitchen sink, which had completely corroded through and failed. There was also a clog in the drain, far inside the wall. I called S & K at 9:30 and Tony was at my home by 11:30. He was able to solve the problem to my satisfaction. While the price was expensive, I understand that was because it was an emergency repair on a Saturday morning. I couldn't go the entire weekend without being able to use my kitchen sink/dishwasher, and Tony was able to get it repaired in under 2 hours. I will also say that the person from their answering service was very professional and thorough.

We called them and they came out the next day. Our hot water heater went out. We talked about different kinds they could install. They gave us prices, and we checked online with other places. We decided to go with them because they seemed to know more about this than anyone else we talked to. They came out the next morning to install a new one. They put down runners to walk on, cleaned everything up, explained everything we needed to know. They were very professional, helpful, friendly. They suggested we get a different kind of water heater in order to fill our whirlpool tub (which in the past always ran out of hot water before it was full). It works nice now, and we are very happy with their suggestion and their service.

The wax seal at the base of our powder room toilet began leaking. I called S&K in the morning and a technician was there that afternoon. He conducted a careful inspection to assure that there was no damage to the flooring. Then he carefully placed a drop cloth to protect the floor and quickly replaced the seal which required removing and replacing the toilet. The technician was very courteous and efficient. The work was completed quickly and the room was left in a spotless condition. I was charged only for the actual time spent working on the toilet, not for set-up, inspection or cleanup, just 45 minutes. I was very pleased with the prompt response and the efficient, competent and courteous service.

They were incredibly prompt...I left a message late one night and they were to my house by 7:30 the next morning. The guy was courteous and tidy. He thought it just needed to be tightened, so he put a lubricant on the pipes so the threads wouldn't jam and tightened it securely. Unfortunately, it started leaking shortly after that. So I called back and again they were prompt in coming out. This time I was not charged the trip fee but was charged for the time he was there. He sawed off a piece of the connecting pipes so it would fit better and tightened it up again. It was leak-free for a couple weeks but then started leaking again. I called back and again, they were prompt in responding. (They were also concerned about making it right and did not charge me at all for this final visit.) He adjusted the pipes and tightened it further and it's been leak-free for 3 months now.
