Matt came to my house on time and evaluted my water softener. He was very friendly and professional. He thought there was a salt bridge, fixed it, and told me to re-test the water in a few days. He gave me an estimate on a new water softener and went above and beyond to answer all my questions.
Description of Work: They scheduled a visit to my home the next morning to evaluate my water softener and give me an estimate on a new one.

They did a very good job and I didn't have any problems with anything they did. They put in two new pressure valves, one new bathtub, and three lavatory sinks and so far so good.

It turned out quite well. We only had to pay for the installation since the water heater was under warranty, and the company was able to find an install a water heater on the same day that I called them. They did good work with the installation, too, and the new heater is running just fine.

Took longer than expected for them to schedule the work. Showed up and did boring with subcontractor, then 3 days later came back to dig the yard and hook up. Contract said they only fill in hole, don't do final grade. But left a huge pile of clay on top that would not spread out. 2 days later (Sat) basement filled with sewage because boring had collapsed the sewer line. Called their on call person, showed up 3 hours later, tried to snake it but found hard blockage. Said they'd have to come back on Mon to dig it up and make repairs. We had to go all weekend without putting anything down the drain! They came back early Mon, dug up large hole in front yard 3 days before we were to have final inspection on sale of property. Again, they left large pile of clay on top of hole, rather than put it in hole first and put top soil on top. I insisted they hire someone to remove the clay, bring in topsoil and seed the repair prior to final inspection. Which they did 3 hours before inspection and at no additional cost. They made it right, but it was a stressful couple of days worrying about it and whether it would impact closing on the house.
Description of Work: Install new water line service from street to house, replacing well which was reconnected to just hose bibbs.

Regarding review Date June 12, 2013 We are somewhat confused by this review as we have not done work for [removed member name] at [removed member information] in Pewaukee We believe the work was performed for [removed member name] at [removed member information] in Menomonee Falls who are very nice people. The contract was signed by [removed member name] and received in our office on May 15, 2013. Permit was file on May 17, 2013 and received back from the Municipality on May 28, 2013 after the Memorial Day weekend. I discussed scheduling with [removed member name] who informed me that his real estate closing was on June 14, 2013. I promised to have the work completed by June 13th at the latest. Diggers Hotline was contacted and we were given a start date of Friday May 31, 2013. The directional boring sub contractor was scheduled for the following Tuesday June 4, 2013. Our final work was completed on June 7, 2013. On the evening of Saturday June 8, 2013, I was contacted by our on call tech and told that he felt our sub contractor had inadvertently hit the sewer while boring in the water lateral. I made arrangements to get a crew to the home by 8:00 AM on Monday June10th, approximately 37 hours from when I was contacted on Saturday evening. The dig up was begun and completed on Monday June 10th. Late in the morning on June 10th I was contacted by [removed member name] who asked me if we would haul the excess dirt away (which in their case was clay) and perform landscaping to restore the affected area. I readily agreed in view of the problem caused by our subcontractor. I contacted a landscaper and met him at the [removed member name] Property on Monday afternoon as my crew was finishing loading up the excess spoil from the yard. The earliest the landscaper could complete the work was on Thursday June 13th the day of the final home inspection. I visited the landscaper at approximately noon on Thursday June 13th as he was completing the restoration. I understand the stress of a real estate transaction and obviously the mistake by our subcontractor added to that but to say we were unresponsive or took a long time to schedule the work initially I feel is somewhat harsh. Additionally, the contract price was $4400.00 not $5400.00. The [removed member name] were very understanding and proved to be good clients. Gary Kuhn

It went great. Chris comes out every year and replaces the filters. He is extremely knowledgeable and patient. I asked him many questions, even a couple unrelated to plumbing(!) and he answered them all. I have had many workers in my house over the years and most get annoyed quickly when I ask questions. Not Chris.

These guys would not stand by their work since we provided the actual fixtures. We used them during a terrible recession at the request of our builder. Whenever we tried to have them fix something that was improperly installed, they would say it was the manufacturers fault. We have heard many rumors about this company and some of the things we experienced after all was said and done we confirmed. I would be very wary of using them.

In response to the member statements we have these comments: The member states that we would not stand behind our work. We did the construction job in 2007 through a builder and Mr. Anderson supplied the plumbing fixtures and faucets through his contact at a wholesaler. We received a few calls form him within the year of installation due to water leaking. As it turned out the leaks were from frozen water lines that were not insulated properly in the joist space by others. We did make the repairs. After a period of time beyond the warranty period we were asked to check for leaks on the fixtures (supplied by others). We did go out and check for problems and after that time we informed Mr. Anderson that there would be no more free calls on His product. These are the only calls we have on file from him. Working with this gentleman was quite a challenge from the beginning of the job. As you can see we did follow through on our responsibility. This customer doesn’t even own this property any longer and he resides part time at the Shorewood residence. We have been in business for over 60 years and have an excellent record with Angie’s List as well as the Better Business Bureau. Jeffrey Kuhn President

The plumber was very good. He didn't waste time. Other people had worked the dryer vent on twice before and I think he fixed it right this time. Plumbers are supposed to be expensive and they fell right in that category so the price was average. They came when they said they would. I sprung the dryer vent on him when he got here and it took another hour.
Description of Work: We used S & K Pump & Plumbing to ground our water heaters and they repaired our plumbing root system and replaced our main shutoff valves. They also repaired a dryer vent.

I have used them regularly, and they have mainly done minor work for me. I have used them for some work for some relatives too. They are dependable and do a good job. I can rest assured that the work gets done correctly. They are a little more expensive. It was $280 including tax to replace the faucet. There was a trip charge, labor charge for an hour and a quarter and a charge for some minor supplies. It did not include the price of the faucet, which was another $230. I bought the faucet through them, which was paid for separately. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

The guy who was out was unable to fix it so he essentially disconnected the pump from the alarm system, the generator from the back up system. Then the guy who actually installed the sump pump came out on the following Tuesday and he was also unable to fix the sump pump. What they ended up doing was going back to the manufacturer and getting a new, it was like electronic working battery back up. The pump itself did not fail. The battery system failed. After several phone calls to the owner and stuff, we agreed that I would not be charged for the other visit. Nevertheless, I was still essentially charged for the initial $468 for something that we thought should have been under warranty because the system was $2300 to begin with, and it was the failure on the part of the electronics. I was not thrilled but the guy did not charge us for any subsequent visits. My feeling was that they could have fixed it on one visit. They just needed somebody to come out within one hour to unplug something and plug it back in, have they known. The first guy asked me who installed it for you. Then I said you guys did, your company did. I had the original bill of sale and so they got the original guy who installed it. My feeling was that with this particular sump pump they did not know their products well enough. Moreover, this is something like the alarm just going off, they could have just done trouble shooting. They did not need to be there as long as they were. However, the fact was, this was a particular item that not everybody, nobody had this heavy duty sump pump system. It took them a while to figure it out. They persevered until they did figured it out. They did give us an inductorial grade battery back up system. It was essentially the computer part of the system mal-functioning not the actual mechanics of the sump pump itself. In terms of overall experience, it was like when we had paid $2300 for something and it failed or we had any problems within three years we should not have had to pay almost $500 to get it fixed. In terms of price, they were over priced. I understand they did had to come out three times and they did spend time here, but I felt that it was not my fault, it was their product. They were the actual people to deal with it. They did not charge me for replacing the battery component. They were good in terms of responsiveness. The guy came out, he called me when he went. They were good in terms of punctuality. Each time they came, they came exactly when they said they would come. I would use their services again in the future because they are the only people who know how to use that specific sump pump. They are right around the corner and they have been doing our well for so many years. I cannot cut them off because we have been with them for so long. I think we are learning experience for them too. I think that now that they have dealt with this sump pump and know the things that can go wrong with it. The next person that has this particular pump would have a much better time, than I did.
Description of Work: I used the services of S & K Pump & Plumbing Inc. They have been managing our community well for a number of years. They also came and fixed our sump pump within the last few months. It ended up costing us $468. We did not have it replaced we had it repaired. It was a very expensive sump pump because it's actually two sump pumps for back up system like a generator. It's like a big complicated thing. We had it installed by them couple of years ago. The alarm went off and it was a Sunday. We were charged double time because it was Sunday.

Member has been a long time customer of ours. The system that is in her home is not an ordinary system. We have a weekly service rotation for emergency service personel and each of them has their specialties along with their basic skills. Along with emergency service comes aditional expenses including time and one half and double time wages depending on the day and time. This particular problem required our factory rep coming out to the job to solve a rare problem. After charging for the inital call we did not charge the customer any aditional charges even though it would have been ligitamate to do so. We try to put ourselves in the customers shoes whenever possible as we work to solve problems. We scheduled our followup call at their convienence as they were dealing with a death in the family that only made matters worse for them. We appreciate them as a customer. None of the equipment was in warranty however we replaced the parts at no charge to them. The extra service that was performed @ no cost should be taken into consideration when responding and grading our prices. thank you, Jeff Kuhn President

While not a cut-rate service provider by any means, we've always felt we've been fairly treated at fair prices. These guys are expert professionals. When we needed a new water heater a few years ago, we didn't consider calling anyone else. Sand K are our plumbers and will continue to be; it's as simple as that.
Description of Work: S&K Pump & Plumbing has been our go-to choice for twenty years. We've called them for everything from a major project such as a bathroom remodel to more minor needs, such as drain cleaning. Most recently they've helped us solve a problem with a leaking powder room toilet. To our frustration, the leak persisted despite three return visits until it finally became obvious that a hairline crack toward the bottom of the bowl required replacement of the toilet. Through repeated calls to try to fix the problem with alternate solutions, S&K promptly had the plumber return at the end of the several workdays in order to find a final solution. Of course, no additional charges were made, beyond the first visit, until the purchase of the new replacement toilet. While not a cut-rate service provider by any means, we've always felt we've been fairly treated at fair prices. These guys are expert professionals. When we needed a new water heater a few years ago, we didn't consider calling anyone else. S&K are our plumbers and will continue to be; it's as simple as that.

I scored quality a "C" because the switch failed at 6 months old. At this point in time that is all I have to go on. Our system has yet to really be tested in a storm where we would normally have to babysit the pumps.. The first night I can go back to bed unworried while water pours in, and the pump system keeps up (as Sand K promised), I will score quality and experience a AAA X1000, broken switch or not. It will be worth anything we went through to have it. I will also add the new battery back up worked like a charm handling the amount of water we got over the weekend.
Description of Work: This is an addendum to a report I submitted two days ago. My disappointment with S& K occurred when I called them on a Saturday to come and fix a broken vertical float switch they installed in September, only to be told I would have to pay over $220 per hour for labor. (The pump would not shut off so I had to unplug it.) On Monday my husband took in the failed switch which they replaced at no cost as it was under warranty. Today, Tom from S&K called me to talk about our dissatisfaction. He explained somehow the switch was not on the original contract so it looked at though it was not theirs. He apologised for the misunderstanding and promised to be available if we needed him in the future. He gave me his personal cell phone number if I needed it. We get a lot of water when it rains. It is very anxiety producing worrying about how much water will pour in. It was going to rain all weekend and we were without our primary pump. Our old system had to be babysat. In a heavy ran we needed to be home to add other pumps to handle all the water. Sometimes even that couldn't keep up and we'd get water in the basement.. If we lost power we got water in the basement. We went with S&K to install a system (pump and wider discharge pipes) that could let us finally rest easy.

I made an appointment for service at 9:00 AM. The technician called at 8:30 AM to verify someone was home and arrived at approximately 20 minutes later. The repair needed was identified on the previous Wednesday phone call when the appointment was made. The technician confirmed the repair needed, made the repair, calculated the bill, answered my questions, and was on his way in approximately 25 minutes. The work was completed very professionally. I assume the bill for the work was a normal plumbing charge, but I feel it was a bit on the expensive side. The part needing replacement couldn't have cost more than a nickel to produce. I would use them again, because it their company's water softener.

They did a great job. I had bought a toilet and they came out to install it; they had no problem with it. They had different people come out and do different things for me. I bought the garbage disposal and they installed it for me. They were very punctual. They gave me a time frame and then they called to tell us exactly what time they would be here. They were very thorough, courteous, and were very nice people. I had been to their store to look at the displays. There was a woman who showed me around and it was great. I never had a problem with their quality. I had well water so I was worried about that. They made it run smoothly and I have not had any problems since. I was very satisfied with them. I did not think their price was out of line with the others. They were very responsive and punctual. I will use them again in the future.

I tried to snake the drain myself with a tape style hand tool. I think I just let it go way to long and now neded a pro. I called Sand K because another local recommended Plumber had a stupid automated answering system. I prefer talking to real people. The plumber was pleasant and efficient and arrived within the stated time frame. He came with a huge sleek high truck. I had everything out of the way for him ,providing easy access. Due to my present financial condition I urged him to help me out cost wise anyway he could. I started my timer when he entered the house and when he announced the completion of the job. 23 minutes exactly. The sinks now run free and clear. He suggested the use of a product called Bio-Clean powder (or something similar) every day for a week and once a month there after. There was suppose to be a $20-25 off coupon in the yellow pages, but I could not find it. I asked him to wait a moment while I looked for it. He said he would just waive the addition power auger fee(about another $50) instead. My beef is that he showed up with a huge truck full of tools and then wanted me to pay an up charge for the use of one of those hand held tools. I did not think this fair because I was already paying a healthy hourly rate plus the $85 trip Charge! I will shop harder for a plumber next time. I once called this company for a bathroom remodel quote(spoke with a person) and they NEVER returned my call.
Description of Work: cleaned combination drain line serving back to back lavatory sink/kitchen sink through lavatory waste with a power auger and 5/16th inch cable. Flushed out drain, ran water ,tested. Labor at 1/2 hour 67.50 Trip Charge $85.00

REALLYMiserable experience- made to feel like I was putting them out by calling and asking for service during an extreme event of my house flooding through a system failure. Three floods in rapid succession ( 2 days) and they were non plused and took this opportunity to sell me all kinds of equipment that I may not have needed but implied 'could fail '. Really felt like I got taken advantage of at a time when I was really vulnerable. Thousands were spent, 7 weeks later, same identical flooding occurs and I am distraught. The closing remark from the 'expert' was I am 98 % sure that this was probably the problem. This does NOT build confidence in workmanship or trust in a company.I have phoned with questions during the last 3 weeks and felt that my questions were an imposition. The Executives and in office managers were really couldn't have cared less. It was painfully clear that I could no longer do business with this company. I made 3 attempts to get an appointment to have rental softner and iron filter removed- I was kept on phone on wait and bounced to 3 different people. Fortunately, they sent a young man who had been on sight and was very nice. So,rental water filtration units (softner and iron filter from them ) are gone... No one should have to deal with the attitude and the condescending tone anymore...made me feel like I was a huge imposition when I asked questions. Obviously the problem was NOT fixed the first time since it has now occurred again 7.5 weeks later. Not again !!! While the field guys were nice, this experience and the attitude of the management has ruined a 25 year relationship; left such a terrible sour feeling that I will not do business with them again.
Description of Work: First floor toilet exploded like a water volcano all over the first floor and it was raining in the basement. Up all night cleaning and waiting for a plumber. As I am just nearing the end of my cleaning, it happens AGAIN. Plumber arrives around 9 next morning because coming earlier would have been an emergency call of $220.00 an hour- looks at toilet and then FLUSHES IT and says,"looks like it flushes ok". Following night- it happens again- first story under water and it is raining in the basement again. Plumber #2 and #3 from same company come out- they think maybe a clog from an older iron filter.Nobody's sure of anything. I am charged trip charges both times, sold(rent to own) a new filtration system of their own design- a softner and an iron filter... then told well pressure tank and well pump 'might fail too given their age' so those, a floor sump pump, piping and reworking are all done over 3 days because they stop field work at 3:15 and didn't get here til 9 +... Additionally had one of their other guys #4 snake drains- asked for all pipes but he did only the primary discharge 4" leading to septic -even cutting the pipe rather than removing the end cap in the basement leading to septic and without any televising equipment. When asked for televising was told that they don't have that equipment. He left me a mess and left the job incomplete obviously since seven weeks later, I again awake to another flood all over the first floor originating from the same first story toilet -It took several hours for the plumber to arrive, same comments as previous flood, looked at septic - found a slight build up of paper near the baffle- manually broke pushed it through with a rod and my garden hose.Telling me there might have been a minor clog due to 'too many paper products' (RIDICULOUS as the system is set for a four bedroom,2.5 bath house and only one person living there and the floods were only occurring during regenerationI) explained the toilet which had been involved in theses 4 floods had suffered enough water insult that the seal was leaking and insisted he lift the toilet and change the seal which he did reluctantly because he couldn't 'wiggle ' the toilet . As he was leaving, he "thinks" it's resolved... a bill for the entire time he was here (over an hour) was sent immediately adding insult to injury.

Response from S & K Pump & Plumbing Inc
We have this response to the posting by the member. We realize that the member experienced problems with her plumbing system and it created some flooding problems which we don’t like to see anyone experience. For the record the member houses unusual wild animals in her home that require large cages. Along with those animals come the hair, fecal matter and strong uric odor that penetrate the air. Our service men wore face masks when working in the home. We performed service under the same protocol that we would in any residence which normally is successful. We experienced a sump pump that was connected to a line that the toilet was discharging to also. When the toilet was flushed the drain ran fine after the initial cleaning. There was a severe water pressure reduction due to the water conditioning equipment being plugged substantially. We recommended to the customer that the equipment was old and should be replaced to improve the water flow. When the equipment was replaced and it regenerated in the night time the flow was greater than before and it caused a backup again in the waste pipe. The water then backed up and came out through the toilet when the sump pump kicked in. When we came back out to service the drain line we felt it was full of water at the cleanout location and if we removed the cleanout we would have more water to deal with. We cut the horizontal line above the cleanout location so we could rod out the drain with out causing more mess. As it turned out there was a substantial amount of paper towel in the drain that had plugged up at the very end of the line in the septic tank inlet. We don’t like to run a drain cleaning sewer rod into the septic tank due to the fact that the baffle in the tank can break off and cause more problem and expense. We had to force the debris into the tank with the hose and a rod so as not to damage the tank. When we cleaned the drain the first time we did move the clog and the line appeared to be running fine. When the member became upset we did remove the water conditioning equipment and there was no charge. She will still need equipment from someone. We do care about our customers as our multiple Super Service Awards from Angie’s List would indicate. Neither I nor my partner in the company was aware of the dissatisfaction of the customer due to the fact that we were never called about it. We deeply regret the problems and the loss of a long time customer. Good luck in the future. Jeff Kuhn President

No problems with the garbage disposal as far as I know. Don't use it much anyway, but it seems to be just fine The drain still wasn't right. The clog was pretty far down the line. I called the next day and they came back with a longer snake and it seems ok now. They waived the trip charge but wanted to be paid for their time on the return visit. My wife put up a bit of a stink so they said "no charge" for the second visit. We have done business with them before and will again. A bit on the expensive side, but they do a good job every time.
Description of Work: Replaced garbage disposal and cleaned kitchen sink drain.

Two years after the initial installation -- we didn't know what to expect with this type of new residential tankless water heater -- when we had problems, Sand K stepped up to make it right. They performed the work quickly upon learning of our experiences, at no charge to make things right. However, we wanted a change to where the unit was located, and so they only charged us for that labor. WONDERFUL that a contractor is concerned about making it right for its customer ... especially after several years.
Description of Work: We had a Takagi tankless water heater installed in our home. We went with S&K Plumbing because they are one of the few 'preferred' plumbers who could install a residential tankless water heater. We had one in the 1970s when we lived in a German apartment, they are common in Europe, and they save on energy costs. After two years, the tank on the wall began dripping water periodically, and then made a banging noise. We were remodeling our kitchen, so contacted the plumber who was working on the remodeling. He said he felt the installation of the tankless water heater was not done completely correct. He contacted S&K Plumbing .... who then called us and said they wanted to make it right for us. S&K Plumbing came out and fixed the problem. We had them move the wall unit to a different part of the basement ... and they charged us only for the labor to move the unit. They spent almost and entire day, moving plumbing pipes and getting the unit installed and working correctly. In fact, our hot water is better than before. Jeff from S&K Plumbing handled this wonderfully ... we are EXTREMELY pleased with the work done last month.
