I called several flooring people from your list and while folks were pleasant they weren't able to do things as rapidly as we were hoping they would or they didn't think an engineered floor could be refinished. When I called Aleksey he was responsive and interested. He said that he'd have to see what sort of wood the floor was made of and that it might not be refinishable. We made an appointment for him to come the next morning. He not only wasn't late, he was early. He came in and looked at the floor, told us how he thought it would go. He explained how it would take a lot of sanding to get rid of the dark coating on the wood, perhaps as much as 1/8" off and then he'd have to smooth it to make it flat, then apply the finish. He gave us a price quote and we lined up our schedules. We gave him half of the fee and a key to the house on Monday, left for Eugene on Tuesday. He started the job on Wednesday and called us Saturday afternoon to tell us it was done and beautiful. We came back to Gresham on the following Wednesday and let ourselves in to see a truly lovely floor. The house was free of sanding dust. Aleksy arrived right when we had arranged and took the protective tape off the woodwork, gave us back our key and received the other half of his well deserved fee. Then he gave us a floor care kit so that we would have the right tool to care for the floor he had so beautifully refinished for us. Aleksey was friendly, knowledgeable, clean and professional at all times. I would unhesitatingly recommend him to refinish anyone's floor.

Aleksey is professional, punctual, a real craftsman, and a pleasure to work with. Our new floor is beautiful! Our recently purchased house has a room that was carpeted and used for a home theater. We want to use the room as a yoga/dance studio, so wanted to replace the carpet with a hardwood floor. We looked at options, talked to a few contractors, and got a couple of bids. Aleksey of AVA Construction came to our house, looked at and measured the room, and gave us a detailed bid right on the spot, even calling the wood supplier to get the latest cost of wood. Aleksey's bid was the first detailed bid we got, but it was in the ballpark of our other estimates, and we were so impressed with Aleksey's attention to detail and apparent professionalism that we gave him the go ahead. He took up the room's carpet and pad, prepared the subfloor, cut and installed individual maple floorboards with walnut trim, and sanded/finished the wood. He used three coats of clear, water-based finish. The work took four days. (Aleksey had originally estimated five days.) He showed up exactly when he said he would each day. His helper was unable to join him, so Aleksey worked extra to compensate. After completing the installation (before finishing) he noticed a squeak had remained in the floor, so he spent a couple of extra hours removing and replacing some boards and fixing the squeak. Aleksey kept everything clean and we didn't notice dust outside the room. The result is beautiful, and the craftsmanship is top-notch in every way. The wood was perfectly cut and fit together seamlessly. The finish is great. We highly recommend AVA Construction.

Alexsy is a homeowners dream as a service provider. He returned my calls promptly. Gave us his estimate the same day I called him. He and his team do what they say they will do and in the given timeframe of work. Our floors were in very bad shape and when they were done, my floors appeared to be brand new. I am thrilled with his work. We always get three quotes on any job we need done. When we met with Alexsy we stopped our search immediately. He took such pride in his work and he is a man of his word. I would recommend him highly.

If you need to have your wood floors refinished, look no further. From the moment Aleksey walked in our house, we knew our floors were in good hands. The level of detail and craftsmanship is second to none. Since the project was completed, several other contractors have been through the house to provide bids for other services and each of them have raved about the quality of the work. One contractor said it was the best job he has ever seen. Aleksey truly turned our old oak floors into pieces of art. From the moment Aleksey arrived to provide the bid to the end of the project, he was always punctual and timelines for each deliverable were met.

I should have written this review months ago; however, we now have over five months of experience with our new floor finishes so that adds perspective. We had a thoroughly great experience with Aleksey and his workers. Aleksey arrived to give an estimate on the same day I called. He was extremely impressive with his knowledge when we first visited with him. After looking at the floors and suggesting needed repairs, he immediately sat down and worked out the estimate. He then checked his schedule and was able to begin the work soon after we met him. Because we got the estimate in mid-December, we elected to postpone the work to early January, and he was truly gracious about scheduling it then. He gave us a start time and the number of days required. He called the week before the work was to begin to confirm the job. He arrived exactly on time on the day the work was to start with his very careful crew. They went to work and stayed long hours each day. The result was that they finished two days sooner than his original estimate. They used a total of four coats (we had other estimates from companies that use only three coats). Most of all, the dark brown and black water stains that were in the house when we bought it 30 years ago and remained after an earlier refinishing were beautifully (almost unbelievably) repaired and refinished. We were truly astonished. Throughout the whole process, Aleksey was available and kept us completely informed about progress. He made suggestions about some areas that were uneven and these also turned out incredibly well. Aleksey is a very pleasant and easy to talk to person who knows his business very well. We are now ecstatic with our newly finished floors. They truly gleam. We would hire Aleksey again without any worries.

This was one of the best experiences we have ever had with a contractor. The entire process was seamless. The bid was very competitive Alexi was very prompt and professional. He always answered our phone calls and arrived either early or on time for every appointment. He kept all of the timelines he gave us for completing the work. When he arrived the first day we had changed our minds on the stain color and he worked with us very patiently until we decided on a color. The quality of the work was fantastic. We could not be more pleased. We would recommend this company to friends and family.

Aleksey provided an estimate on the same day he did the walk-thru. Final price was the estimated price. Project went as planned, as scheduled and results are excellent. Minor deformities in the wood were "patched" and hidden as best possible. A new piece of matching wood was put in place to transition between two rooms that are not quite at the same level.....so much better than it used to look. The only thing I'd suggest as a heads up to anyone having clear coat applied is that it is very toxic and we had to leave the house for a couple of days. It took another 3-4 days for the odor to finally dissipate.

I couldn't be happier with my new floors. Aleksey showed up on time for the estimate. He was professional in every way. It was easy to see that he knows his business. He measured the areas and gave me a bid on the spot. It was not my lowest bid, however I felt comfortable with Aleksey and that was important to me. Aleksey gave me advice on different wood floor options and directed me to a place that had a nice selection of wood flooring products. I had no problem finding a floor that I loved. On installation day Aleksey and Edward helped me move my furniture out of the room and removed wrought iron railings. The installation went well and Aleksey and Edward finished within the time frame they set and on budget. After the job was done they cleaned up, replaced the railings and moved my furniture back into the room. They even noticed one of my wood cabinets was broken and they fixed it on the spot with no extra charge. Later I had a slight problem with my wood stairs and Aleksey came right over. Instead of trying to "fix" the stairs he just rebuilt them. I was so impressed. While Aleksey was here I had him measure and give me an estimate for my dining room and kitchen. I plan on replacing those floors in the summer and I am definitely having Aleksey do the job. If you want a floor guy who knows what he is doing and backs up his work, Aleksey is the one for you. Aleksey was very easy to work with from the start. He showed up on time for the estimate, discussed my requirements, took his measurements and estimated the price on the spot. He didn't have any glossy brochures or even samples of the wood, but it was fine. I knew exactly what I wanted, and he had a book of photos of previous jobs, so we quickly came to an understanding about what I wanted. He followed up with a written estimate in e-mail the next day. It was very simple, no letterhead, just a line item listing of the prices. I asked him to estimate a couple of options separately, and he did this. Overall, the initial estimate process wasn't fancy but he covered all the bases and I felt comfortable with it. Before he finalized the wood and finish requirements, he invited me to a home he was working on to see his work. He had samples of wood and finishes on site, and I was able to see what the project was going to look like, which was good. Floor installation isn't for the faint of heart, it's going to be a mess for a while. Knowing this, I had good expectations for what was to come. This visit also gave me a chance to go over all the details one more time and feel very comfortable with my choices. I later agreed to let him bring a future client into my home to see the work, which seemed fair to me. The entire project went exactly as promised in terms of time and cost. He had to start a little later than planned, but finished on time, so it was no problem. After the underlayment was pulled, he saw that the code would require the flooring to be laid in a direction that would be okay, but not the best because of the direction of the subflooring. Before proceeding, he called and explained the issue to me and made sure I would be happy with that. I asked him what it would take to lay the flooring in the best direction and he explained he'd need to install a layer of plywood under the flooring, at a cost of aprox. $1700. Although this was an addition to the original quote, he didn't pressure me to go this way and I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of. We all know that renovation projects have surprises, and this was just one of them. I also asked him to replace the base molding in an adjacent bathroom so that the main area of the house would be consistent. It was a last-minute addition and he quoted me a very fair price for what was certainly a nuisance for him. The floors were beautiful! When I first saw them, I just sat on the floor and rubbed them and oohed/ahhd. Even my realtor, who's seen it all, was very impressed. I only have one small nitpick. I am still finding dust from the project everywhere. He was careful to cover appliances and kept the work area very clean at all times, so maybe this is normal. I've gone through a box of swiffer duster pads, but it's a small price to pay! I am so happy with my floors!

Aleksey and his crew were very impressive throughout the entire project. Aleksey provided an estimate and clearly scoped out the work, strategy, and timing. Although the price was at the high end of the three bids I received, Aleksey seemed greatly more knowledgeable and experienced than the others, and hiring his team turned out to be a great investment. The work was done exactly as scheduled, and Vasily and Edward were on the job from 8 am until 5 pm for three days. After completion, it appeared to me that one small board might have been missed with the final sealant, and Aleksey came out immediately to check; it turned out, however, that what I noticed were just oddities in the natural grain of the wood, but still Aleksey applied another coat of sealant just to be sure. These people do exceptional work, and I highly recommend them. The final result is beautiful.

Aleksey was a pleasure to work with and the quality of his work is excellent. Everything went beautifully. We set a schedule for the work and he stuck to it completely which made planning easy. Our floors look amazing.

We couldn't have wished for a better experience. Alexsey provided a remarkable level of service from quote all the way through the final walk through. Removing the linoleum (previously affixed with heavy, heavy adhesive) was quite the chore, but after the guys finished, you would never know how it was ever there. Their attention to detail was remarkable. Feathering new white oak into the existing flooring was something I thought we be impossible to do (getting a good match, etc). Alexsey sourced the perfect wood for the project and installed so it looks just like the original flooring. The sanding, etc made quite the mess in the unfinished portion of our basement. I just assumed my wife and I would have to clean it up. Nope, Alexsey's team vacuumed everything up for us and made sure everything was clean before the end of their job. We are just so pleased with the finished product!

I called after researching on angies lust. They were able to fit me in and finished in 1 week. They were true craftsmen. I have new floors. They are beautiful. They gave great advice and while they werent the cheapest bid, they delivered on their promise and timeframe.

We had to wait for a few hot days in a row as the job was outside. Once that arrived, Alexsey was able to schedule us in and finished the job in less than three days work. They arrived on time, worked hard and left the site clean and looking just great.

Aleksey arrived and bid on Wed. We saw that he had great reviews on Angie's list. We also received another bid that day. Aleksey's price was reasonable, and he followed up quickly and wanted the job. His team began on time as stated the very next day, and arrived each day on time or early. By Sunday we had beautiful refinished flooring.

We had the entire downstairs quarter-saw white oak floors refinished, and a carpeted living room updated with the same oak.Many of the heating registers and returns were butchered over the 90 years my house has existed, Aleksey replaced all of them with wood grates, and repaired all of the surrounding boards to be laced together as if they were always made this way. I cannot say enough good things about this company and their workmanship. I intent to have them put down all new oak floors on the entire upstairs of my house in the next month or so.

Aleksey was excellent to work with from start to finish of the project. He was professional and courteous from the first interaction to the completion of the job that took more than 3 weeks (Family Room, Stairs, Kitchen, Living Room, Hall). We had some water damage that spoiled our hardwood floors and we took this as an opportunity to replace carpet with hardwood floors. Aleksey was a great advocate for us as we struggled with the water damage restoration company to dry the subfloor/hardwood. He gave us good advice on when to start the work when the moisture level was within recommended range for Oregon. He is a true professional and takes pride in his work. He came to work promptly at the time promised every day of the three weeks he worked at our house. He estimated the start and end dates perfectly. Quality and customer satisfaction are his biggest strenght. He delivered what he promised on time and budget. I would recommed him very highly to anyone who is thinking of installing and finishing hardwood floors.

Aleksey repaired the floors prior to the holidays. We arranged alternate accomodations in February so the floors could be sanded and finished. We are extremely pleased with the appearance of the floors. All gouges, scratches and so forth are gone. The floors appear to be absolutely flat. The color, which Aleksey took time to mix for us is a terrific improvement over the original floor color. We had the problem that original stain colors on base molding, doors, and stair rails did not match very well. The new floor color is a terrific compromise that complements the remaining original woodwork.

We needed to get the top level of subflooring replaced in our living room after a major accident with our 150 gallon saltwater aquarium. The particle board used in the initial construction of the house was ruined. After contacting many flooring companies in the local Portland/Vancouver area it was clear that not one carpet/flooring company was willing to do the work of replacing our subfloor without a commitment to buy our carpeting from them. What was really discouraging is that they all are Angie?s List ?A? rated companies and of those many were on my short list to contact for replacement of all of our carpeting in the entire house which will be another soon to be needed job! I finally came across AVA Construction doing a further search within Angie?s List and all I can say is Wow! Aleksey is an outstanding business owner. On the same afternoon as my initial call to him, he came to our house in a driving downpour and gave me a bid for the work. It was a far less expensive bid than one of the carpet companies that was willing to do the work by about 50%. Three days later AVA Construction arrived at my home, and did the job. They did an outstanding job at that! The level of attention to keeping things clean and dust free inside the house was fantastic and done very well. The speed at which the work was done was very fast and very accurate. Aleksey and his assistant were professional and intent on doing a great job even for work that would later be hidden by new carpeting. The living room floor is far more solid feeling than any other part of our house. I wholeheartedly recommend AVA Construction for any flooring repair a consumer may need. I also would recommend them in the event that a replacement of laminate or hardwood flooring is needed. We are going to have to replace an already worn out wood floor in our kitchen and entry way and we will call AVA Construction and Aleksey the owner first! This company is truly an A+ company.

He followed up on the quote a couple days later and offered us a discount, which was very much appreciated. The only reason we didn't select him is because his company does not re-tile fireplaces and the other company did. We didn't want to deal with two contractors and go through the bidding process again.
