PERFECT in every way. We had been contemplating this project for over 18 months and had interviewed many different wood floor guys for the job. When we met Aleksey it was like everything clicked. He is extremely professional and knowledgeable. He gave us answers to all of our questions and if he didn't know something, he was honest and direct. He made sure he understood the scope of the project down to the last detail so that there was no miscommunication. He was very thorough with paperwork and made sure everything was in order before beginning. He did all the work himself with the help of one other guy, so we never had unknown subs on the job. When the project started, Aleksey arrived at 7:45 am sharp and worked until 4 pm. He kept this schedule the 10 days that he worked....my husband and I laughed because we knew he would be on our doorstep at exactly 7:45 am and he would say "Ready to work!" He was great about keeping us informed about the scope of the day's work. We always knew what to expect. As for the quality of the work, we couldn't be more pleased. Aleksey was meticulous. He does everything "by the book", so no steps are skipped, no shortcuts are made. He was also very careful, so no baseboards got cracked, there were no scuffs or marks or any damage from the sanders, etc. The floor is tight, we have no squeaks, the stain is beautiful and the finish is exactly how we wanted it. One spot on the stairs needed some help, and Aleksey came and took care of it right away. Also, the price was extremely reasonable. It was a winter rate (slow season), but still, it was excellent. I feel like we got more than we paid for. And our 3-year-old son LOVED Aleksey. He even learned some Russian... Anyway, thanks again Aleksey. We will recommend you to everyone we know. And we will be calling you back to do our upstairs next year!

Alexsay was very prompt and easy to deal with. As we checked in throughout the week, his work seemed top notch. This isn't one of those companies that comes in and does the job poorly and quickly just to work, we were very satisfied with his excellent quality and workmanship! He went the extra step to make sure the finer details were taken care of and looked good with the specific design of our house. I am a novice to hardwood floors, but three months later we are still very satisfied with his work. We would definitely use AVA again.

I removed my carpet and particle board underlayment myself. I had my room prepped and ready to go. Aleksy and his worker showed up right on time, were clean and ready to go. They installed the hardwood (Rustic Hickory - Common #2) in about six hours and did a great job. They had to scrimp to make the last couple of pieces work...and they did. They waited a week to let the flooring acclimate and came back to sand and finish it. They worked for hours and hours sanding the floor to ensure it was just right. They used multiple tools and even hand tools to get the floor smoothe in all places. They taped off everything and put a fan in our window to help move the fumes outdoors. This worked perfectly as we hardly even smelled the finish until the last days when Aleksy removed everything and left. I was very happy with their work, their ethics, their friendly approach and their responsibility. Aleksy alwo went out of his way to fix a broken stair piece that we had (free of charge).

Aleksey came in and made measurements and consulted with us on how the floor should be laid on concrete properly. Hearing his recommendations on installation and getting a fair bid made me feel confident to hire him right away. The entire process was smooth, effortless, and timely. He did most of the work himself with the exception of one day he brought in one other person to help whom was also very professional. Very gratifying!

This was a positive experience from start to finish. Alex arrived on time for each of our appointments and did a careful job at sanding and refinishing our floors. He took the time to carefully select the correct stain color to match our existing hardwood flooring. The job site was left clean and orderly each day after the job was complete for the day. The job was finished to our satisfaction and I would definitely recommend AVA Construction.

We were very pleased with Alexsey's work. We had to wait several weeks for him to become available but it was well worth it. He told us he could complete the work the same day he provided the estimate--and he did. Alexsey explained the pros and cons of our options in great detail-- the old white Siberian oak is only available through salvage. We elected to go with new white oak. Alexsey took great care in selecting boards that would most closely match/complement the existing floor, staggering them to minimize the "patch". We would hire Alexsey again and highly recommend him to others.

The workmanship was outstanding. Aleksey obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. The communication was a bit rough in the beginning. When Aleksey came out for the quote, we had a misunderstanding about what it would take to refinish the stairs, and we ended up not refinishing them. But once we got past that miscommunication, it was fine. The floors are gorgeous.

The work was completed within 7 days, as promised. The end result is remarkable, we are very pleased. There were areas of old paint on the floor that needed to be removed and lots of gaps that needed to be filled in.

Aleksey is the BEST!!! The original fir floors in our kitchen were under 6 layers of vinyl, and they looked pretty bad before Aleksey got started. They were covered with black glue, had lots of damaged spots, gaps between boards, and holes drilled thru the floor for plumbing. Aleksey turned them into beautiful gleaming wood floors. We couldn't be more satisfied with the work he did and with the result. We got 4 bids, not all were eager to work on fir floors because of the challenges they present. Aleksey has a lot of experience with fir, and was confident that we'd be happy with the finished product -- he was right. Aleksey is a skilled craftsman with high professional standards, and we're happy we selected him to do the work.

It went great. This was a big job that took two weeks and it went smoothly from start to finish. Aleksey responded promptly to my first inquiry, when he came to our house to see the job he also brought along a good size sample of red and white oak flooring with the different finishes. This is exactly what I needed to see to make a decision. He gave us a written bid that same night and when we called him back to accept he was there that night with the contract and set up the date to begin working. There was one additional room downstairs that I was also considering redoing the floor and he said not to do it, the wood was great and there was no reason. I appreciated that. He and his helper worked h****** this job! This is an old house with stairs so hauling the old floorings out and the new stuff in required even more effort. The old subflooring was pulled up and new subflooring was laid, which I honestly wasn't sure about, but it made everything level and squeak free so it was for the best. He also had to pretty much rebuild a series of steps and landing area in the staircase which we could tell took a lot of skill and effort and they turned out great. He was careful about sealing off areas to minimize the dust and mess. We left town during the week the floor was being sanded and finished since it needed to be undisturbed as the finish dried - which was the way to do it. And when we came back the job was finished and looked beautiful - shiny and smooth. I can be pretty fussy and nitpicky but am completely satisfied with how it all turned out I especially like the vent replacements he added - the old ones had bothered me for years and now they blend perfectly. We will be hiring him again.

Aleksey came immediately to give me a written bid when I first called him. His bid was very fair and he had a book of photos of past jobs. My only concern was the work schedule. I checked with a couple of other refinishers. I discovered he offered the best timing. He actually started early and finished on time. He was prompt, cleaned up well and the workmanship was excellent.

We contacted Aleksey after researching Angie?s List. We were impressed with what his clients had to say about his work and we wanted to hear what suggestions he might have for us. He met with us, shared his suggestions, showed us a notebook with photos of his work, measured the areas, showed us his samples, and provided us with a proposal. We were so impressed with him, his work, and his proposal that we made the decision before he even left our home. Aleksey was in our home for a full 3 weeks. He is one of the hardest-working, most trustworthy contractors we have ever dealt with. He worked very long hours and never missed a day. He is honest, hardworking, and very skilled at what he does. But, even more than that - Aleksey is a true craftsman. He maintains very high standards for his work, he is precise, he is careful and he was always respectful of our home. He kept us informed and involved throughout the process. He consistently made sure that everything was done carefully and correctly. The final product is beautiful and we love our new hardwood. We have included photos of the finished floors. The stain is a deep oak with a satin finish. They are really gorgeous. If we were to install any additional hardwood in the future, Aleksey will be the man we call.

Aleksey, did a wonderful job of matching the wood and putting them. He was always on time and always left things clean. He did just what he said and they are beautiful. I would hire him again.

We got estimates from a lot of people and the costs were pretty outrageous. Aleksy was recommended by a guy I found on Angie's List that lives and breaths wood flooring but did not do doug fir. Aleksy came over the next day and gave us a reasonable quote. He was communicative over email and was able to start on the day we needed him (gotta be out of the house on during floor work so the date was really important). He did all the work during the crazy heat wave - sanding wood at 100+ degrees can't be fun. The floors look amazing and I would have never guessed it could have turned out so nice. He did a great job.

Overall, Aleksey did an excellent job from start to finish. During his initial bid, he was careful about actually measuring the water content throughout the floor to better understand the probable underlying damage. When removing the damaged floor he correctly determined that the sink cabinet needed to be taken out because there was too much residual moisture underneath which could not be removed by using a dehumidifier. Once the subfloor was dry, he installed the new wood floor which was a great match to our old wood (no longer available). Throughout the process he was always punctual, considerate, efficient, and enjoyable to interact with.

The floors are finished perfectly flat (finding someone who can do softwood fir well is more of a challenge than hardwood). Everyone comments how nice the floors look! Aleksey was a pleasure to work with.

AVA Construction did an excellent job. I contacted several contractors on Angie's list for estimates, one of which, a highly-rated hardwood floor contractor, mentioned that he did not work with fir floors, but that he had worked with someone who did and gave me AVA Construction's name. I found AVA's listing on Angieslist and added AVA Construction to my list for estimates. Aleksey came out to do the estimate and was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also the lowest bid. I choose AVA to do the work and scheduled the date for the work to begin. Aleksey was punctual, and did an amazing job repairing and then refinishing the floor, all with minimal mess. We are very happy with the results and to have a 'go to' contractor for future flooring work in our home.

It was great. Aleksei communicated proactively at every stage of the process and was very flexible in working around our schedule. He was also very patient as we agonized over details: Fill the cracks between boards, or leave them open? Go with 3/4" unfinished quarter-round or get the primed 11/16"? Despite our waffling, rescheduling, and a post-payment request for changes to the base shoe, Aleksei was always calm and polite and never got exasperated with us. I visited the work site in the evenings when he was done, and it was obvious that he is a true professional: His tools were always tidy and ready for the next day, and he did a thorough cleanup of work dust and debris every day. The quality of workmanship is outstanding: From the demo and installation of the flooring downstairs to the labor-intensive refinish upstairs, Aleksei has worked to ensure that every detail is well done. Aleksei is very business-like and professional: He will describe what he can do as well as what is not possible, and will provide an estimate onsite which he will honor. He and Michael make a good team; while Michael has time to discuss politics and side issues, Aleksei is all about getting down to work and getting the job done. He will work long days if needed to meet deadlines. We have dealt with a number of contractors while working on out new home. So far, Aleksei and Michael from Sungrain are the only ones we can give straight "A"s to. If you have Fir flooring to refinish, Aleksei is your man. He also did an excellent job matching hardwood pieces for install and ensured that they were laid straight and without gaps. Aleksei comes with our highest recommendation. Use AVA Construction and you will not be disappointed.

Although my insurance company covered the damage, I decided to choose contractors from Angie's List instead of just going with the company they worked with. I chose Ava Construction for the good recommendations on Angie's List. Aleksey came the next day after I called him, explained everything to me, gave me an estimate, then started on the work right away. When he finished the floors, he was so proud of his work that he wanted to protect the floors. He left w bunch of felt protectors with me to put on the feet of all my furniture so the floors wouldn't be scratched.

Aleksy was recommended by Michael at Sungrain Hardwood Floors. We contacted Michael on the recommendation of a friend who was satisfied with his work on a smaller job. Aleksy was a straightforward, no-nonsense guy who got right down to work, and did an exceptional job. His removal of the existing veneer and subfloor was a tedious job, but was well-executed. The installation of the new subfloor and Brazilian cherry flooring looks spectacular, and has a solid and lustrous feel that the original floor lacked.

After receiving bids from a few contractors, we decided to work with Aleksey due to his reputation, responsiveness, and friendly personality. He was flexible in his timing for the bid, wrote it up on the spot, and gave us great advice with respect to materials sourcing and pricing. Once we had decided to sign him for the project, Aleksey gave us a very accurate schedule for how the project would proceed. This was critical to us since it was a kitchen and we needed to know how long meals would be disrupted. Everything worked out exactly as he had planned. He clearly knew how to schedule his work. With respect to work quality, we're thrilled with how the floor looks and feels. Overall, this was one of the best contractor experiences we've had. We would definitely call Aleksey again for future flooring projects.

Six months ago, in August 2008, Alexsei refinished the fir floors in my converted attic. Finally, I am getting around to giving Ava Construction a well deserved and resounding "A" score on Angie's List. My floors were covered in two layers of old paint. Alexsei masterfully refinished and sealed the floors with an eco-friendly product I'd purchased in advance. He subtracted the cost of the sealant I'd purchased upfront from the total bill - not everyone would be so fair/generous. Service was extremely professional from start to finish. Punctual and affordable without compromising quality. I would recommend Ava's services to anyone - and in fact, I know that one of the friends I did refer the company to submitted one of the recent "A" reviews on Angie's...

We were extremely pleased, work was done beautifully in a timely manner.
