He didn?t actual repair the machine, but informed us that he could. We told us that even with the repair, we would still need to get a new one.

Ben was late on the day of our appointment and had to reschedule for the next day. To be fair, he encountered a traffic jam and could not make it in time. The appointment took about 30 minutes. Ben evaluated washer that did not do a spin cycle and found that it had a bad transmission. He recommended we buy a new washer because it would cost about $300 for parts and labor to repair it. He also looked at our dryer that was making a loud screeching noise. He did find anything wrong. However, after he put it back together it stopped making the noise. Ben did not charge us for the visit, which is $75, because he missed the appointment the previous day. Overall, he is efficient, knowledgeable, professional. I would recommend him to my friends.
Description of Work: Diagnosed washer and dryer. Washing machine would not perform spin cycle and dryer was making a loud squeak.

I think the above description says it all. Ben's Appliance is unusually responsive and effective. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about the experience.
Description of Work: The door on my Jennair oven simply would not close tightly. I had hired another service to fix it and they did their best. But the door still crept open and heat escaped. The other service took the door apart and replaced the hinges. No luck. I called Ben's Appliance because it had such a good rating on Angie's List and the results were more than satisfactory. "Ben" actually exists and did the work himself. He brought new hinges just to see if the hinges that had been replaced were defective. They were not and he simply wrapped them back up and did not charge me for them. He then examined the entire mechanism of the door to try and figure out what was causing the problem. He discovered a bent screw in the mechanism and suffice to say that he performed a bit of a MacGyver-like adjustment and voila, the door closed. He charged only for his time. But the most important aspect of the whole experience is that he is smart. Plain and simple, you want someone smart analyzing the problem. He is your man. He just gets it. And he is honest. What more can you ask?

Excellent. Would be nice if they took plastic for payment since the appliance was at a rental but an honest repair at a great price was worth the complication of getting them payment.

I will definitely use Ben's in the future. They are very courteous and prompt. You can tell they work hard to provide excellent customer service. They are very easy to contact and return calls right away. Had it not been for a very expensive part we would have used them - the labor charges were very reasonable. Nice to know that there are still people like this around.
Description of Work: We received an estimate to repair our 10+ year old washer which had served our seven member family well. As it turns out the transmission was shot and it is a really expensive part so it didn't make economic sense to fix the washer.

Woke up to find Fridge was warm. Called Ben @ 0700 - Call was returned by his wife before 0900. Ben was here by 1030. Diagnosed and fixed the problem (Relay switch to compressor?) and was finished by 1130. Took another 20 minutes to answer some other questions I had. He fixes Fridge|DishWasher|Oven|WaterHeater|Microwave. He and his wife seem very nice.

I called Ben's based on other positive reports. I definitely concur with the A rating. Ben and his wife(answers the phones) were very nice and very personable, yet also professional. Ben has a great deal of experience and is just a great guy to deal with (a combo that is so hard to find these days). I will definitely call with any appliance problems in the future.
Description of Work: Had a Frigidaire front-loader washing machine repaired. It would not spin/aggitate. After getting all the info on the washer, Ben brought the main parts that he thought could've caused the problem (the next day I might add). This would help to ensure that multiple trips would be avoided. Come to find out, neither the control board nor the timer were causing the problem. He found that the shocks were broken and vibration caused the timer wire harness to become detatched. Bottom line...$75 service call, $44 parts (shocks), $15 labor. Very Fair I'm thinking.

We called Ben for an estimate to repair an oven and refrigerator. The oven's "locked door" light was blinking despite the door not being locked. Because it was registering as locked, the oven would not turn on. Ben made suggestions over the phone to correct the problem and even stayed on the phone while the adjustments were made. He then researched the refrigerator problem, called back and then came to the house to look at it. He determined that the problem likely lies in the mother board that only the manufacturer can diagnose. Because he could not correct the problem, he did not charge us even though he technically made a service call. We will certainly call him again if we have any appliance issues in the future.

The compressor fan in the bottom freezer of our cabinet depth refrigerator had a bad contact and was continually going off and on, making a buzzing sound. By the next morning the contents of the freezer were beginning to thaw. I called Ben and he graciously managed to fit me into his schedule that same morning. Ben quickly located the problem and replaced the defective part. The cabinetry around the refrigerator is built with very little clearance and as the door opened and closed, the unit tended to move back, interferring with the complete closing of the refrigerator door. Although other appliance people had noted this problem, Ben was the only one to fashion a solution by creating "stoppers' to keep the unit from gradually moving backwards. He also installed the water filter for me so I'm able to draw a glass of ice water from the unit for the first time in 6 years!
Description of Work: He replaced the "start package" on the freezer and installed 2 rollers at the back of the unit to stop it from moving too far back into the space and interferring with the door's opening and closing operation. He also installed the water filter for me.

He was worth the wait and his prices are fair, he is very professional, arrives when he tells you. I will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I have a 1962 kitchen imperial stove in our rental beach house. One of the burners burnt out and needed replacing. Ben was unable to come when called since he only makes calls in my area once a week; however it was not an emergency so i was willing to wait for him. He brought out a burner for my stove but it was the smaller one and he was not sure he could get the larger burner but he was able to. The part came in 2 days later but I had to wait for the next week when he was in the area. He did say he could come over when the part came in if I needed him to.

Very well--all work done within 5 days!
Description of Work: I had my 10 yr old Maytag Neptune washer stop working on a holiday weekend so called Ben on Tues and described the problem. There was no answering machine to leave a message on as his "phone" is his cell phone and he answers it immediately usually wherever he is. I also had a Kenmore dishwasher part that had broken off in the past but didn't keep the dishwasher from working so I described that problem as well. He scheduled a time for Wed and came within the time frame quoted. He came prepared with the dishwasher part and fixed that in a timely matter. Unfortunately the washing machine started up and continued to run and he couldn't find a problem! He said to call him back if it developed again. On Wed I did several load of clothes but realized the next morning that on last load, the machine had stopped again so I called him and he scheduled an appt on Fri .When he hit the start button it initially started but stopped again and he was able to diagnose the problem. (blown fuse on a ?connector board that is attached to the whole motor as 1 part) Thank goodness it didn't start running smoothly ! Unfortunately, the model I have was the second year Maytag made it and the fuse that burned out was connected to the motor so the whole 2 units had to be replaced. Apparently the years succeeding that model were re-designed so that each could be replaced separately. He presented a price for replacement (not inexpensive but approximately 1/4 of the cost of a new front loading machine similar to mine. I decided to go for the repair. He called to determine availability of the part and came back within 3 hrs! It's fixed and working well. Ironically, Ben had worked for another appliance company I had used years ago and was very impressed with, but didn't recognize him until I asked if he had ever worked any where else and then through conversation realized it was the same repairman. What a co-incidence--same guy, same great service, approximately 12 yrs later. I would highly recommend him!

The right front burner was going from low to cherry red hot without any one turning the switch. In addition it was sparking (big time!) when ever the burner was adjusted. I called Ben on Tuesday and he made an appointment to come out on Thursday am between 10 & 12. When I talked to him about the problem on the phone he said that the sparking was the box (an electrical connection box???) under the stove top but that the temperature changing would be the switch. He asked for the make and model of the stove so he could have the parts ready. After I hung up I talked with my husband about what Ben had said, and my husband said that as long as he's coming we should have all the boxes replaced. I called Ben back and that was ok with him. He didn't give me an estimate and I didn't ask. I knew (from prior experiences with Ben) that it would cost me about $100 +/- for him to walk in the door, and that after that would depend on how long it took him to get the job done and the cost of parts. Ben showed up on time, went right to work. He worked quietly and efficiently and ended up selling me a new burner (element) and giving me a used one that was in better shape than mine. When he left my stove and kitchen were clean and neat, and my stove doesn't throw sparks anymore
Description of Work: Ben came and replace a switch on my stove and 4 electrical boxes for the burners and 2 burner elements.

Called Ben in the morning and briefly explained the dryer had stopped working and suspected overheating. He was working on Vashon Island and despite other work that day still made it out to our home same day. He did a quick diagnosis with a promise to order parts that night! Several days passed for the parts to come in which was a little frustrating, but this was not in his control. Once parts arrived he made a special effort to get our home that evening and he quickly repaired. Very helpful and customer service oriented!

We went to the pet store right after Ben left to get a real home for Hector. By the way, he's gotten so tame that even our cats are his friends! And, yes, we tried "humane traps" to get him, but he was always too darn smart for us. This time we rigged the cage to entice him in, and Hector now has his own living quarters.
Description of Work: Broken refrigerator. What to do, repair or replace? After researching vendors on Angie's List, I decided to give Ben's Appliance Repair in Tacoma a shot. Ben was at my door within an hour of my phone call to him. I didn't ask him on the phone for a price estimate, as I could tell from the other reviews that he was very fair and honest. I was right! Ben found our "pet" rat, Hector, had built a nest with the refrigerator insulation material and even had a little playmate in the nest with him (a little catnip mouse that had previously belonged to our cats). After cleaning out Hector's nest and repairing the wiring he had chewed through, Ben permanently closed the access hole Hector was using so he could not get back to his hiding place.

It was amazing. I had called another provider, but they could not come for five days...and I needed my washing machine. I called Friday at noon and asked Ben if he could possibly come to fix it that day. I described the machine and how it would not spin. I told him I would be home until 4 pm. He said he would work it in and came at 3:30 pm. I was worried that he would not be able to fix it before I needed to leave, but he came with two different machine parts in hand and said it was going to be one of the two that was needed. He fixed it in 15 minutes.

Ben was prompt and polite. He gave us an assessment that the washer was probably in need of replacement, although he would repair it if we wanted him to. The cost of repair would have been close to the cost of a new washer. His honesty was refreshing, as we probably would have paid the repair cost and needed more repair in the future. He performed an extra service by noting other appliances were in working order for insurance coverage, with no extra charge.

I will keeping Bob's information on hand for future appliance service needs and would gladly recommend him to anyone in need of his services. I was so happy to find him on the list and glad to support an independant business man.
Description of Work: The water dispenser on our side by side refrigerator had developed a slow drip. Bob came over and diagnosed the problem, as a valve in need of replacement. Bob was fantastic- timely, courteous and a pleasure to have in my home to do this job. The valve had to be ordered and he kept me in the loop, as to when the part would be in and was great about calling to schedule the repair. When he arrived he found that the part didn't come with the screws to install it, but he was up to the task, as he had what he needed in his van to complete the job.
