A woodpecker got caught in my chimney and I called to have it removed and to check on the cap - I had one but often heard woodpeckers banging on it and assumed it had been damaged. They stated they could come out the next day. Later the bird flew all the way down and we were able to get it out of the house. When the workers arrived the next day, all I needed was a new cap. They stated the old one was not regulation any more, plus it had been damaged. It was done within 5 minutes. I was extremely happy with the prompt and efficient service. I would recommend them to everyone.

Originally I had requested the work to be done at the beginning of February but had to cancel and it took a number of emails and phone calls to schedule an appt. Typically I would not have made more than one request however based on the Angie's List recommendation and my need to have the best work on our chimney I held out and continued to try and have someone schedule a second appointment. When I got the office the first person I spoke to was less fairly direct and didn't leave me with a sense of trust but when she transferred me to the scheduling person I began to experience what other described. Today the two crew members showed up and provided some really great inforamation and in additon to the cleaning began work on adding a new cap (which I knew I would need). The two technicians were wonderful. They answered all my questions, were quick and thorough. I arranged for them to come back out and put a new cap on now that they removed the first two layers of bricks that were just sitting on top not being held by anything! They also offered to take down our hiddeous TV atena that had been up there since we bought the house. The overall experience once I got a hold of the right person and tech's were really great.
Description of Work: The Chimney Specialists arrived on time and provided a complete inspection and cleaning of our 1930's chimney. In additon they began work to address structural issues with the chimney.

Two gentleman showed up on time and immediately went to work. The one that first came in the house took his shoes off at the door and brought a covering. As I just purchased house and putting in new carpet - I told him to put his shoes back on. He did a great job and was very nice.. He also took off the broken glass from the fireplace screen which was broken by previous owners. I asked about putting in a gas insert and they gave me a catalog and a quick quote. I will call these guys back for any further work. Excellent response time. Appt was originally for afternoon and their office called and said there was an earlier cancellation and would I like that appt. I did want it and very, very happy with entire experience.

We had a very unusual situation with our furnace vent, and condensation was building up in our chimney causing a major moisture issue in the house. After five different contractors looked at it without any clue of what to do, the Chimney Specialists came right out, gave us a fair price, and were able to make a repair within a few days. The problem that has been plaguing us for months is now fixed! I couldn't be happier. The guys who came out to do the work were quick, professional, helpful, and other than a dry vent, there is no sign that they were ever there. I would absolutely recommend them and wouldn't hesitate to call them in the future.

Overall I am happy with the work they did. I do wish they could've saved the brick top of the chimney but it would've looked funny re-built with 2 different types of brick. While it was messy while they were working they cleaned up very well before they left.
Description of Work: I had them come out to inspect chimney and fireplace leak. Their estimator came out and provided a bid. A few days later two guys came out and performed the work. They asked permission for a lunch break and were gone for an hour. They reviewed the finished project with me. They capped 2 chimney flues; brushed moss off the side; water proofed it with Chimney Saver; mortared the top of the chimney; closed off unused oil furnace flue. The estimator had told me they would re-build the brick top of the chimney; but the actual mason said he did not have enough bricks to rebuild it, and the bricks were not the same style, and there were no matching bricks to be had since the house is old. The mason said he would remove the top broken brick architectural detail layer of the chimney and just mortar that. So that's what he did. He made it clear it was up to me whether to proceed with this or not.

Both wood stove and fire place were thoroughly cleaned and inspected. the stainless steel rain guard was installed, the flue for my propane fire place was caulked as it was never done. I haven't heard the loud dripping noise since then, and don't have to worry about water damage. He went through every thing with me, put my mind at ease about using our stove and fire place. They work fast but take the time to answer any questions or concerns. No mess left when they are done, just clean flues and peace of mind.
Description of Work: wanted both the wood stove and fire place inspected and cleaned. Needed a rain guard for the fire place. Also asked them to check the rain guard on my propane fire place as I kept hearing loud dripping noises when it rained.

Excellent. We had a leak on a wood stove chimney and needed it looked at. They were prompt for the inspection, gave a detailed estimate and set up the appointment for the repair on the spot. You do pay for the estimate but they credit a percentage of it back to you for the repair. It's well worth it because inspecting and measuring chimneys is hard work and you don't want to be surprised later. They're also super honest and transparent in the estimate about what could go wrong and what they could fix and couldn?t; for example, they?re not roofers so if the flashing was a problem they told us we would need a roofer. Our cap was rusted and full of holes. They gave a full and precise estimate for the new cap. They were on time for the replacement and did a great job on the installation. There have been two very heavy rains since the new cap was put in and the leak is gone. Great job.

Chimney Specialists were on time, thorough and clean. They did an inspection of the chimney and fireplace insert. They fixed everything up after years of neglect and corrected several problems that would have been a fire hazard. They did a good job of cleaning up and did not leave the house sooty or messy. The overall bill matched the estimate.

I called to make the appointment and the lady I spoke with was so kind and helpful. She gave me the actual cost for services, then gave me the expected cost with Angie's List discount. The guys showed up on-time, performed the work quickly and gave recommendations for future maintenance. I asked lots of questions and received great responses. They even entertained my daughter's gazzillion questions about their work. :-) I tend to have high expectations for customer service as well as work performed. The Chimney Specialists have earned A+ accross the board in my eyes. This was such a positive experience from start to finish! I will be calling again at the end of this year for another inspection and sweep.

Called to have wood stove and dryer vent cleaned approximately 1-19-13. Was told they would be out between 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Wednesday 1-23-13. They showed up at 3:30, I told them where everything was and it was completed in 1 1/2 hours approximately. They were both very courteous and polite. The price was a bit less then I expected. Thanks

I bought a home a few years ago (short sale) and who knew when the chimney had last been inspected and cleaned, I wanted to utilize this beautiful firelace a bit more so I scheduled with this company. The tech was very nice and seemed quite honest. He did a inspection and I was happy to find I was within code and had a good system. The Kirb did a great job and left no mess. Kirb was helpful with questions and recommendations. Great company!

1. DO compare prices for services. A listing with Angie's List in no way means you will get the best price for the same quality of services. 2. If you go with an independent, check to insure he/she is licensed and bonded. 3. Do not rely on listings for desired services. Compare first with local contractors and you may discover, as I did, that our locals will do the same, if not better, for much less. 4. Make an informed decision so your money is spent wisely.
Description of Work: While they were friendly, helpful, took the time to explain services and products, I did not like the fact that their price structure included a charge to just come out to my home and assess the costs; however, if I wanted them to clean my chimney while they were here, the cost could be altered and could include that, as I understood it. The prices they quoted seemed excessive so I searched further and found a local contractor, licensed and bonded, who did not only what Chimney Specialists recommended, but did other services in addition. The cost for this was one-third the amount, I was pleased with the professionalism, quality of work and services performed and saved over $500 by not using the Angie's List contractor.

Response from The Chimney Specialists
Dear Member, The services we provide with our CSIA certified technicians are insured and the caps we install are stainless steel, all weather and carry a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. As we are sure you understand by finding a local contractor at a lower price, our company as well has standard service areas based on our location. You live out of our service area. When you called in and told us your location, we explained this to you. We cannot send out two technicians to drive 64 miles roundtrip at no charge to provide an estimate at no charge; if we did we would soon be out of business. A “C” rating overall seems rather harsh when no work was performed, no estimate was written and we have never been to your home. We are glad that you were able to find someone local to help you. We are available by both phone and email if you have any questions or concerns, (253)862-1522, chimspec@qwestoffice.net.

We had efferescence appearing on our inside bricks. So I knew moisture was getting into our system, so we called for an inspection. Their process is they come and sweep the chimney and do an inspection if they can repair then they will and if not they will recommend next steps and schedule future work. I was a bit concerned that with water seepage into our chimney we would be facing major repair costs. They spent a great deal talking to us about our situation, it turns out our bricks are no longer made, and are very porous. They suggested in the summer to come out and seal the inside of the furnace, and then walked through a yearly maintenance of sealing the outside that I could do if comfortable. They also explained that in the winter if we simply have fires at least once a week it keeps moisture down as the heat takes away the moisture when going. There level of educating us and coming up with a plan of attack once we get out of the rainy season that is reasonable and affordable made for a very great experience.
Description of Work: We had a chimney sweep and an inspection of our chimney done. The inspection was due to the fact that I found a white powder substance on our bricks inside the house, which I learned was caused by moisture getting into the system. Upon their inspection it was determined that we would greatly benefit by them sealing the inside of our fireplace brick masonry, and then walked me through how I should seal external surfaces yearly and if I understood what I needed to do and comfortable with it. They put together a qoute that is really reasonable and can't wait to have to them come out in the spring, as I feared the repairs would be very costly.

I hired them to clean our chimney in our new home. First off we have 2 fire places one wasn't very bad and the other was very bad. The cleaned both since the upstairs one just needed to be vacuumed then they asked me if I wanted an old TV antenna taken down since they were up there. It was definitely going above and beyond of just cleaning my chimney. They were done in less then 30 minutes and didn't make a mess at all. Great service would use them again!

This job started on November 13 and is just now finished. Several delays all unavoidable. The weather played a big part, and many problems came up that weren't visible from the outside when we got the first estimate. Brian and his crew of one worked some days in terrible rain but they just kept working away. When the chimney was finally down the inside face of the fireplace litterally fell off the livingroom wall. Not expected but I never liked it anyway and now I have a beautiful brick fireplace. I can't say enough good things about these young men. They did a wonderful job for us.

Guys called and said they were actually able to show up earlier than scheduled. One of the guys came in to look at the fireplace while the other immediately made his way to the roof to start cleaning. After a quick chimney cleaning they brought in a shop vac to do the final cleanup in the fireplace. We have another unused fireplace that they looked at for us and gave advice on keeping the draft out. Over all the service was very quick, thorough, friendly, and professional. I will be calling them again next year for our annual cleaning and I have already recommended them to friends.

We iniitally had our fireplace and wood stove inserts cleaned last Feb. and chose the company from Angie's List. We also purchased two chimeny caps and had them installed at the time. Our fireplace and the ashbox was marked on the inspection sheet as satisfactory. Our wood stove insert was marked also as satisfactory. Last week I cleaned 6 5 gal buckets of ash out of my ash box (this costs extra to have cleaned $150, had I known it was completely filled in Feb. when we had the service, then I would have purchased the cleaning, but like I said the guy marked it "Satisfactory") then I properly cleaned the wood stove insert - the upper baffles need to be removed to get the creosote that falls down into the liner pipe. I spent three hours cleaning the stove myself last Saturday. Then I found the original paperwork and called to give them an earful. They sent the same tech back out immediately. Much of the work was already done and he offered many reasons why the stove didnt work properly, from installed improperly to my ignorance. Didnt mention the ashbox. Never apologized. That's fine. I understand wood stove inserts are difficult to clean, however it appears that the tech never bothered to remove the upper baffles back in Feb. - the very least he could have done - I pulled large chunks of creosote out of the liner. He never checked the ash box. I understand it costs money to have it vacuumed - I would have had it done if I had known it was completely full. This is a great company and very responsive. The tech has worked there for 12 years. I just think he was a little bit complacent, however my wife, who dealt with him in Feb. thinks she was taken advantage of by him. Either way we no longer trust the company. Sorry, we really like the service from the front office.

Response from The Chimney Specialists
Dear Member, As a highly valued customer, we first would like to apologize that our service did not exceed your expectations and for any miscommunication experienced with your service last February. We would also like to extend a sincere apology to your wife, as we can assure you it was not our technician’s intention to give her the sense that we were advantageous during this appointment. To address the ash dump, we would like to offer an explanation as to what qualifies as satisfactory vs. unsatisfactory during inspection. As long as the ash dump has an ash door/cover and the level of ash is below the floor of the firebox, it is marked satisfactory. At the time of the appointment, last February, the ash level did not exceed the floor of the firebox. Ideally, we would’ve hoped to have had the opportunity to rectify this situation and offer an explanation the moment you realized you had a problem with the service. We would like to earn your trust and business and offer you a complimentary cleaning of both systems after the burn season. We are available by both phone and email if you have any questions or concerns, (253)862-1522, chimspec@qwestoffice.net.

The quality of the repair was just excellent. They came out within a week or two to do the job. I would use them again if needed. They sent two people out to do the work because they had to tear the chimney down to the roof and rebuild it. We have a older house and the chimney is cinder block and not tile. When they got to the end, they decided to put tile on the inside and didn't charge me for that and that's usually a $40 fee. They also cleaned up afterwards, there wasn't one bit of mess left. They recommended not painting the chimney and instead using a clear seal that they needed to put on in dry weather. Just when they finished it started to rain and they had to cover everything of with plastic. They had to come back out in a few days when it was sunny and dry and seal it. They were just excellent. A few months later my neighbor asked me who I had do the chimney repair, so I told them. Another nice thing was they didn't charge us for fuel or gas as we were within their area.

Both Kirb and Devin were awesome. They were quick, thorough and informative. Kirb gave me exceptional feedback on how to maintain my chimney to prevent problems as well as giving me advice regarding my hearth protection. He is honest, trustworthy and is a great representative of the company. Kirb provided me with a brochure for new wood stoves and gave me an approximation on what a new insert with installation would cost. These guys are great and I will continue to use the company and recommend them to my friends and family.

The bid was the most professional and comprehensive of four bids I obtained, and best price for the work offered. The worker assigned to the project was courteous, prompt and left the work site cleaner than he found it. As for quality, very thorough and very nice looking mortar joints, which I can especially appreciate as I did brickwork myself when I was much younger. Included a warranty on sealants. I rate them five stars (best possible)!
