I should have written the review earlier. Honestly, Gregg, the senior arborist, is impressive in his knowledge and passion. HOwever, the cross growth he pointed out, general care, and work on a tree with a lean/branch that is "tugging" on it weren't done, or were done very poorly.
Description of Work: Wind sailing/elimination of cross growth branches in a large tree. Maintenance/care of multiple trees, correction of one tree with a definite lean/danger

I thought they did a very good job. Five men came out and had the job done in three hours. I was very impressed with them because it was a large job. One of the trees was extremely large and was over the roof and the top branches were partially in the neighbors yard. Their estimate was $1000 less then the other estimate I received which included less work.
Description of Work: They took down four trees in sections, shredded the limbs and removed all the debris.

The tree rep wanted 10% down and accepted Visa (which was our big mistake)... We were told someone would be over within the next 2 weeks.... Came home one day and saw that the trimmers had come...A few branches and debris from the trimmings over the roof were left and the laurel hedge was partly done. The tree scheduled to be removed and the cedar tree trimming though was done in a very professional manner.... I have been waiting now for almost a month for someone to come and finish the work... I have called every week with promises the laurel hedge witl be finished and the debris will be taken off the roof, In the meantime, the company has charged our Visa card for work that still hasn't been finished... I have asked for a refund for work not done and will have to hire someone to blow the roof clean.... Not exactly a very pleasant experience.. I have to make my usual call again on Monday , ask for a refund on what wasn't done and listen to the same promise that someone will be over to finish . If you decide to have work done with them, make sure you don't give them your Visa card when they ask for the 10% down...

I felt like the owner was a lot more straight forward. I felt like I'm more comfortable with him. It was probably because he's experienced as the certified folks. I felt like his bid was more reasonable. He was a little late in showing up.

I was pleased with the experience. I was approached by someone going door to door in the neighborhood. I rather like my overgrown yard, but it did need a little help. They pruned a hedge, trees, shrubs, fruit trees. They were respectful of my wishes and did not cut things back farther than I wanted. They also cleaned up and removed all the trimmings.I had read the reviews before I had them do the work. They seemed to be largely negative at the time. But I also noticed that those with the most complaints were not at home when the work was done. if you are having any amount of pruning done in your yard unless it is very simple and specific, it is a good idea to be present. Jeff did a great job of writing up what I wanted done, but that is still open to interpretation. I was statnding there and could easily ask them to trim a little more or less. Because this is a big company I think that alot depends on which crew you get in to do the work. Jeff Ingmire was the arborist with this crew and he did not push me to have more done than I was ready for and wrote a good and clear work order.
Description of Work: Pruned my yard which is rather overgrown.

We were approached by Jim during one of those house sales visits and received a comparable, if not slightly less expensive quote for the work of removing 2 trees and trimming of one. After going back and reading the negative reviews, we were pretty nervous about committing to working with Evergreen Tree care, but had already paid a deposit and decided to stick with them. Here is our overall experience: Pros:-Their arborist, Jim, took care of the permit for the city of Redmond, which was a big plus and one less hassle for us. -The crew completed all the work in about 3 hours, as was agreed, and was cautious and careful about their work. Cons:-Scheduling was a bit of a fuzzy process. They don't commit to a specific date, but promise to come out in the next few weeks/as soon as there is an opening. It took about 3 weeks from the time we signed papers for the crew to come out and we received a reminder call the day before. Based on the reviews, it sounds like your experience will vary greatly depending on which crew/arborist you work with. Things went smoothly with Jim and the Redmond crew and we would recommend them again.

The estimator was very professional and explained what was needed, and just as importantly, why it was needed. Despite our reservation on the cost (admittedly because of our unfamiliarity with the arborist profession) we went ahead and hired them. The crew was very fast and efficient and minimized their impact to our yard. They were done before we knew it. We won't hesitate to use them again because of their demonstrated knowledge, professionalism, and the care they exhibited when working on our yard. You can be confident that you will get what you pay for.

I got poor quality from them, not that they didn't do a good job. The work they did was fine. The fact that they came out, did a few hours work and didn't show up for another five days was pretty pathetic. Communication with them was horrible. They wouldn't return calls. Nobody would show up all day. I couldn't get a call back. Finally, one day, I went over and they had been there. It was a very frustrating experience. The work they did was really good.

They promised a 0% no interest financing until the end of the year but then they still wanted a credit card number but they said they were only going to put a 100 down but when we gave the credit card, they charged the whole thing. They said that they could bring woodchips anytime when they are in the neighborhood but the best thing to do is to call the crew lead. He gave me his number but I misplaced it. So I called the manager sales guy just asking the crew lead’s number so that I could order some woodchips. He never returned my call but 3 days later, woodchips showed up which wasn't I was asking for. I was asking for his number so I could talk to him about when he is going to be in the neighborhood, what sort of woodchips we wanted, when would be a good time to deliver it and where to deliver it. They just dumped a bunch of woodchips in our front yard and they weren't very good woodchips. They were doing me a courtesy by delivering the woodchips but the communication between he and I just wasn't working. We have discussed what good woodchips are and what bad woodchips are. The first load that they brought us was good woodchips. The second load they brought us was awful.
Description of Work: I used Evergreen Tree Care for tree services. They did a windsail reduction for me. They also delivered a couple of woodchips which I don’t pay for.

AMENDMENT: While I will leave y initial review for you to consider, I will add that after I called and asked to speak with a manager, the administrative staff were very professional and responsive. The regional director and arborist came out and looked through the work with me and explained and apologized. This was very helpful. In fact, he was probably the nicest managerial person I have ever worked with anywhere for anything. He was willing to work out a win-win situation so that both myself & the company were satisfied. This turned my overall experience around. Learn from our mistake and shop around! And never hire a door-to-door cold sell without doing your research and comparison shopping. Door-to-door cold sale. Caught us in a good mood I guess (though in hindsight I would say non-thinking mood). Said some of the tall trees that surround our house were unsafe as they were too dense for wind to blow through. Since we did need some serious trim and clean-up work done, we had the sales rep give us estimate for other work as well. Quote was around $2500 I think. Gave us a discount if we agreed to allow workers to show up randomly within the next two weeks rather than setting an appointment. Rep said no one needed to be home and that it was probably better if we weren't so that the workers could just come in and do their job. Did that as we weren't really fussy about an exact time and wanted the discount. On the last day of the two weeks the workers showed up. When we got home you couldn't tell anything had been done. We were disappointed. As I looked more closely, I became angry as very little had been done and what was done looked pretty bad. Only half of the trim work on the arborvitae had been done in one section, the trim in another looked untouched, and my Camilla bush which was supposed to be shaped and trimmed was literally cut straight across the top! Ugghhh!! I called the rep with my complaints and said I would like the job finished to our satisfaction. He said they can be out in the next two weeks. I did not accept this and the phone call became a little heated. After I got off the phone I canceled my credit card payment, not sure when the work would get done or what the end result would be. The next day the rep called me and set up an appointment so that I would be home and said he also wanted to be there. When the workers came he was not present. The workers were nice enough, although the end result is still disappointing and definitely not $2000 quality work. Very disappointed in ourselves for making such a stupid choice without shopping around and checking references or reviews. Be careful and shop around. Will not ever hire this company again.

The reason that I'm giving Evergreen an and quot;Fand quot; is becuase they engaged in the very most aggregious form of high-pressure, disrespectul and quot;closingand quot; techniques that I've experienced in all my time in Seattle. The guy gave us this whole BS thing about and quot;I've got equipment in the area and the price is going to go up a lot if we can't do it right awayand quot;. Yeah, right. Then, when I told him that I didn't care about that and that he should go away and we'd get back to him, the guy had the unbeliveable gall to come back at about 6pm, sit in my driveway and wait for my wife so he could ambush her when she drove in from work. He thought he'd have a little more luck with his high-pressure close on her than he did on me. He even wrote the following on the back of his bid: and quot;I apologize for any disruption I created this eveningand quot;. I would not work with this company under any ciircumstance, at any price. If you're looking for someone to come out and and quot;disruptand quot; you and upset your wife... these are the guys!
Description of Work: This Company came out and gave us a bid for some basic branch removal. The bid was more than $3,000, which seemed rediculously high. We had the work done by another guy who is well known on Mercer Island for less than $1,000.

I signed the work order in January with the understanding that the work would be done in March when I could be present. The crew showed up at 7:30 am on March 1st without first confirming the date and time. We had just returned from vacation and were not expecting them. By the time I realized they were here they had set up in the cul-de-sac making it difficult for a couple of my neighbors to get out of their driveways. Had we had advance notice, we could have planned this better. My one neighbor who said she could not get out was most upset. The crew proceeded to do the work. When I asked them to move and stack the wood by the side of the house the crew leader said that was not their responsibility; in fact they were prohibited by "Labor and Industries" from moving wood. I have never had this issue with other tree companies. At a minimum, the estimater should have discussed this with me. They dropped the wood in the most difficult location from which to move it. We are talking about 20-25, 15" x 18-26" long pieces. All wook was to have been cut to 18"+/- so the larger pieces were very heavy. They also dropped it in a natural area and ruined most of the plants. They could have dropped it where there weren't plants and it didn't need to be moved uphill. I had also asked the crew leater to top the wildlife tree similar to one done previously with some additional saw cuts to make it look more natural. He simply cut it off so now it looks like a 25' high stump. The extra cuts would have taken 5-10 minutes at most. When subsequently discussed these issues with the estimater she agreed to send someone out to stack the wook and someone else to top the wildlife tree as discussed. A person did come to stack the wood but he was only able to move 2/3rds of it becuase of the weight. He said he had been a quadraplegic ten years ago and could not understand why they had sent him to do this work. Go figure. It is now almost 2 month and the work is not finished after a number of phone calls. They were on site for about 1.5 hours....for $800 worth of work. Update 7/19/13 After I wrote the review, the regional manager talked to me to discuss these issues and made adjustments.
Description of Work: Top a medium size maple which had previously lost most of it's crown. Make it into a 20"+ wildlife tree. Remove several other dead branches in 2-3 maple treas and lighten/ windsail a 50' grand fir.

They had people going door to door in my neighborhood. The door-to-door cold caller told me that they would send an arborist for a free "walk-through", but only a salesperson came out. She came out as scheduled. She tried to appear professional, but she was not knowledgeable. She couldn't identify several of the trees in my yard. I asked her about the problems I was having with an apple tree and got non-answers. It was very clear that she did not know much about trees. She came up with a reasonable quote. I got into a contract with them. They were supposed to come by in a few days, but I felt I should get some more quotes from other companies. So, I canceled my contract with them. I felt that their sales techniques were a bit high pressure. I don?t think I will use them again in the future.

I was extremely unhappy with their service. They presented their service, came out on a cold call, told me they will do the service and asked him if he'd be here and said, "yes", and I said, That's what I'm looking for." He preceded to go around my yard and make some notes and subsequent to that, he sent out his team that are probably just lower-paid individual and as it turned out we had storm weeks later and my house sustained damage because the trees that he told me he was going to cut were not trimmed correctly. I had really bad experience. I talked to several people and I get the same response about this company, is one not to be trusted and they misrepresent themselves. I would go far to say, I contacted their main office and basically told them that I felt that they were upbringing illegally by misrepresenting their service that is, "Professional arborist is responsible for the tree that's being trimmed," and you can not be responsible for the tree unless you were there to supervise whoever is cutting, at least for my opinion. They simply identified the tree and when I confronted them on the phone later and he said, "I don't have to be there. My crew knows how to cut the trees," and I basically told him, "That's no why I used your service, I used you because you gave me a card and told me you would be on site when these trees were cut to ensure that they were cut correctly." They did clean up and they did cut trees but it not correctly. They told me they'd come back and clean up some of the leftover wood but they never came back and I paid someone else to come and pick-up the wood. They basically promised to get back to me and they never offered any reduction of the price, never asked an apology and I never heard from them again. They are pretty good con people. They got good marketing.

Response from Evergreen Tree Care
[member name removed] [member information removed] [member name removed] had services performed December 19th, 2011. We have a satisfaction sheet from Ken signed at the time of service. It states that he was satisfied with the work performed. I am so sorry that he is upset that the arborist did not show up with the crew. I am wondering why the F rating has been sent out now “one year and three months” after the service was performed. What occurred to bring about the rating now. He signed the satisfaction that he was happy with the job and now all this time later he is unhappy. What would he like to see happen to bring back some form of satisfaction.

Evergreen working at a neighbor's so I had them look at what I needed done and got the estimate at that time. Returned on the scheduled day and time (to the minute) and did the work quickly and precisely, often double checking with me as the work progressed. Took extra care to do everything exactly as I expected. Crew friendly, polite, professional and careful of my other plants. They cleaned up the debris well, even blowing off the decks where sawdust had fallen. Finished faster than I thought possible. I defintely recommend this crew headed by Nova.

'We called three tree service companies for estimates for the above job. From reviews of these companies on Angies List, I figured it would cost between $500 and $800. When we began negotiating with the representative from Evergreen, it became apparent that they were going to overcharge us. The first offer was $2800. When I hesitated, he dropped it to $2000. I replied that I would be asking for estimates from two or three competitors; magically the estimate dropped to $1600, nearly twice the next lowest offer. The bid was written on the back of their business card with no explanation of the work to be done which I found to be very unprofessional. We had the job done to our satisfaction by a competitor for $714. Watch out for this company. They may do good work, but you might pay a great deal more than necessary.

1. DONT Hire them, If you do make sure you read your contract and everything is specific on what they are to do. There is no communication between this salesman and the crews. It has to be written or marked for the crew to do.Tell them they cannot come and work if you are not home. The pruning crew that came the second time was very nice but after having a arborist look at our trees....they did not know what they were doing.
Description of Work: Salesman that comes out very smooth talking and says he is an arborist. He is not the one that came out. They ruined our fruit bearing trees and it took us over a month to get them to come out and redo the job. I left messages starting the afternoon they came and did the work for the salesman and he never called me back after leaving over 15 messages. I finally had to get in contact with a woman , Kathy. She and the receptionist were very polite and accommodating, but we were not satisfied at all. It took till February for them to return and try and fix the damage and finish a tree they did not do the first time. This company has a 800 minimum to come out so know that going in.

They approached us door-to-door, which made me suspicious. However, we accepted their request to do an evaluation. Glenn (a certified arborist and manager of this division of Evergreen) was thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. I then called another highly ranked service to get an independent proposal. They were also very thorough and helpful, but they proposed quite a bit more cutting (and cost) than Evergreen (almost double). I called multiple references provided by Evergreen of recent customers in my neighborhood. I was a little worried about hiring Evergreen because of some of the bad reviews on Angies list. But the references checked out well, I liked the proposed scope of work better than the competitors, so I hired Evergreen. They showed up on time, Glenn showed up and walked the job with the foreman and me before starting the work. The crew did exactly as promised, the trimming looks great, they cleaned up 100% of the mess, and left the extra wood for burning as requested. Overall, I could not have been happier. They were thorough, honest, hard working, clean, respectful of my property, and did a great job. Highly recommended (especially with Glenn as the sales person/lead)
